Will there be a separate section for the GSM and CDMA (Verizon) models of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus?
Is there a need?
Also, will the GSM roms/kernels etc. work with CDMA models?
Definitely need to be separate.

split up the awesome dev community, why?
That's a good question. I haven't been on here that long (but lurking for a while LOL). It seems like it would a good idea. Although, the only difference in the phones is the radios so, I'm not sure.

if ROMs aren't compatible with both you don't want them in the same section.
no one knows if they're compatible though because we haven't seen the Verizon device yet. chance are they won't be. There will have to be some subtle differences at least.
Only identical hardware can share the same forum. CDMA and GSM arent identical, so we will be split up

I just saw a video review of US Cellular's new CDMA version of the HTC Desire. No doubt the people who buy this phone will discover all sorts of information on this forum... info that could (I'd imagine) seriously harm their phone if they try to flash their CDMA Desire with a GSM Desire ROM!
Might it be appropriate to give this variant its own subforum? Or failing that, post some prominent warnings that the US Cellular HTC Desire is a significantly different piece of hardware?
I guess nobody with one of these has discovered the forum here yet?
(noob here). Can it really cause that much problems? I'm going to be picking up the Desire from Telus soon. Are you saying that I won't be able to use the current custom ROMS?

The Telus Desire is not CDMA - it's GSM/HSPA like all the others. Custom ROMs will work as long as they support the SLCD screen (some are written only for AMOLED screens).
I'm specifically talking about the US Cellular HTC Desire, which is the first CDMA version to be released.
And so it begins...

agree with the OP.
just like the sprint hero and the GSM hero.
need to be a subsection. like you said it could seriously damage the phones if they flash the wrong things. hope a mod creates a different section soon.
+1 on that. There's a lot of people out there who don't even know the different between GSM & CDMA.
Also, it would help for development in general (root and roms.)
I really think the mods should open seperate forums for Desire GSM and Desire CDMA, because as both phones use completely different radios, chances are it will wreck the phone if you put a GSM ROM on a CDMA phone.
Anyone know who any of the mods for the Desire forum are? I would just PM them but I'm not sure who they are.
Just thinking it might be a good idea. The NexusS forum suffers from some confusion from time to time

I like this idea.
it'll be the same as Nexus S
it's the same phone, so there is not gonna be a separate forum
there is no confusion, it's just different radio bands
a well made ROM will not matter which phone is flashed to, it will simply work just like on the Nexus S
this also defines good DEVeloper vs your regular phone Cooks & Kangs

I don't get how a single ROM will work on both versions?
They are identified as two different devices: maguro and toro, and the build code for the two will be different, mainly to select the correct RIL library: the Samsung GSM RIL library vs. the as-yet-known CDMA/LTE RIL library.
It should be trivial to build the same ROM for both devices: just use the right build files and the right RIL binaries. But the end product will still be two different ROM images that will have to be downloaded separately.

What? The Nexus S has seperate developer forums for the NS4G and the GSM version.
Yea. They can share the same QA and General forums. Perhaps even a general development forum for general tweaks and mods.

This. They use different RILs and different binaries for the same build. I don't see how a single rom could work for both devices nor recall any on the nexus s side that claim to.

The ROMs will be very similar, but you won't be able to use the same one on both models. At very minimum you'll have to use the Verizon network stack on the CDMA one that will make its ROM different.
It is a good idea to have a separate cdma developer forum just as their is in the Nexus S section. Keeping the cdma version of roms separate from the gsm version will save a lot of people a lot of trouble. Otherwise there's going to be a lot of bricking going on.
As far as rooting and flashing go, how compatible are the ROMs? I'm assuming a GSM ROM wouldn't work on the CDMA phone, but are they equally supported? Do devs make ROMs that work on both devices? I don't think I've ever had a phone with both CDMA and GSM versions widely used.

Are the downloads separate or can the same ROM be flashed on both devices? Looking at the dev section, I don't see a whole lot of ROMs with two download links even though some of them mention the LTE version.

There are two Dev Forum links. One for GSM and one for VZW cdma phones only. Check the Verizon Dev forum for the cdma specific ROMS. The GSM came out earlier so the development is lagging a bit behind for the Verizon phone.
Please don't flash a GSM ROM on your Verizon device or vice versa. But, then, you're (hopefully) just asking if your favorite GSM ROMs have CDMA counterparts... In that case I can only suggest browsing the CDMA development section...

I know there's GSM support for it. I'm unfamiliar with AOSP devices. Will there be, or is there good developer support for the device when used with AT&T? I'm coming from a SGS 2 SkyRocket.
If you're not using the GSM version on AT&T there's probably no reason for you to be a troll.
Have you seriously not read a thread or news article in the last 24 hours?
That's not an AT&T Galaxy Nexus. Its an unlocked i9250 GSM model. Works on AT&T, T-Mobile, or any GSM carrier in the US/World. Its the same (save for pre-installed Google Wallet) as the European model that's been sold for the last 5+ months.
Seriously?

I understand that... The phone will work on AT&T. Never said AT&T is selling it. FFS I linked to the Google page for it.
I just seen this today. The question is: is it worth it? If there's not going to be any developers working on it. It's probably not worth it to me. I'd probably just get the SGS 3.

No, we're not trolls, we're just tired of people that are uninformed creating irrelevant, duplicate threads before searching or even reading the titles of the threads on the first page of the forum.
Obviously this phone has developer support, it's a Nexus. It doesn't matter what freaking SIM card you put in the back of it, its still the same device. GSM device support is GSM device support. Read. Please!

FFS ppl the OP was just asking a question. Yes the GN sold by Google is supported by AOSP and will have [email protected]!# ton of ROM and development going for a long time
Per your suggestion I've looked through the last 5 pages and there's a couple that's semi similar to mine. The official announcement: which I could try to start a conversation there and it get lost in the general chatter about it, and another question like mine but about the battery. I could hijack his thread. That would be cool? Instead of trolling, which most of the replies have been, you could have said something like "I seen a post earlier that might help out". The replies have been absolute crap. If you're tired of seeing it ignore it.
I'm Never used an AOSP device, or an international device. Before I bought it I thought I would come over kick up a conversation with some people that have a GN and ask some questions. General stuff about development on it. Is there a difference between this one and the international version.
The way you people responded to someone that has never been in this specific device's forum, or messed with any variant of the device before is not right.

Thank you!! I'll talk to you.
Thinking about buying it. Never used or paid much attention to AOSP devices because AT&T doesn't sell them. Are there any catches coming from Non-AOSP devices? I wasn't sure if there's any catches to using the international GSM roms with AT&T. Completely clueless here. I don't necessarily have time to read every post for 10 pages. Looking for a general overview of my questions.
You asked a really obvious question which is why people are responding to you the way they are. The question also doesn't make much sense since it is hard to believe that you this little about this phone. I think you are asking if the Galaxy Nexus works well with AT&T. The answer is yes. It also works well with any GSM network provider. There is good development for this phone, and nothing has to be or will be unique to AT&T.
There's no catches to using this phone with AT&T. Everything works great. Well actually, there are a few catches, I wouldn't get this phone if you were hoping to have:
1. Delayed software updates, or no updates at all
2. Terrible superimposed user interface that is more buggy
3. Lots of bloatware like AT&T Navigator just in case you wanted to pay AT&T for something Google gives for free and does a better job at.
If you are looking for any of those, then yeah, that's the only catch.
Why would I every look into a phone that I can't use? It has nice specs. I can't use it. Close. What's obvious to you isn't so obvious to someone else. Maybe it's all exactly the same as what I'm used to, or maybe there's some stuff you you "just know from experience" that I wouldn't know.
I read your post twice and I have no idea what you were trying to say.

Maybe a better question is: "Do the GSM ROMS work correctly on AT&T without any catches? If there is a catch are the developer pretty quick to help fix, or do the developers ignore AT&T"
I know this is not a primary AT&T device so I know the support is going to be back burner. I just want to know how back burner it is.

This is what I'm saying. You have a very very weak understanding of how this works. Do you really think that there are specific ROMs and tweaks for all of the dozens of carriers people are using this device on? Its an unlocked GSM device. There's no special software needed. You put in your SIM card.
Developers suppor the device. Not the network.
i'm currently using 7105 LTE version.
Was wondering will there be a separate forum being created for the LTE? As majority of the kernel or Rom doesn't work with the LTE version.
Or will developers start supporting both the 7105 and 7100 in a single rom? Thanks.

I was curious about this also. I asked a similar question and never got a response. I would think that they would almost have to be different sections to keep the '00 and '05 separate because of software/hardware differences. Even then there is also the issue of the different carriers (all 4 major ones in the US) that I believe have differences as well.

Yes. +1.
Dear Moderators,
If you happen to see this message, I just want to ask, why are there forums for AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, Tmobile for Galaxy Note 2 variant.
But NONE for N7105 ?
As I believe the N7105 and N7100 is different. A lot of users here desperately try their luck to use those from N7100, and end up loosing their modem/radio file. Thanks God, I do my research first on every possible thread. And I decide to wait further more.
I'm scratching my backside to read thread by thread and post by post, just to find out whether any compatibility with N7105 or not.
And I see in most of the thread, there are some post asking whether compatible with N7105 or not.
This is my suggestions only. If mods think there is really no need to create N7105 forum, perhaps we may be advised on the reason why ?
Thanks,
There's 8 people asking for a separate forum here:

You could add to the thread and maybe it will get more attention from the mods!
