so last night my girlfriend got this stereo last night and i ended up plugging my phone into the aux port, well it instantly shut my phone off and it would not turn on. Her, without knowing what happened ended up plugging in her zune, and that instantly shut off. Nothing we did worked, plugging them in usb and wall chargers, nothing happened and they didnt turn on.
This morning, by chance, i tried to turn it on and it turned on but was really low on battery so i charged it, and now heres were the dilemma is, the phone is extremely hot in the back(near the camera where the galaxy s logo is) even when its unplugged and nothing running and the screen orientation does not change when i open the phone, the keyboard works fine, but it doesnt seem like it knows the phone is open, no lights, no orientation change, etc.
we contacted the manufacture, GPX and they told us to call back in 3 days after they have tested and other things(my girlfriend called them, im not sure exactly what they said)
my question is, any insight on why its running so hot? and if they dont offer to replace my phone how should i go about this with sprint? i have the 7 dollar a month warranty plan
thanks ahead,
Bryan.
It doesn't sound good. Electronics do not take kindly to random volts flying around, and it sounds like you gave your phone a good dose. You probably semi-melted something, which is now causing the heating up due to a short or extra resistance (or quite possibly both).
As long as you don't tell Sprint your story, you'll probably get a refurb no charge. If you tell them you caused it (which is what they would hear), you'll probably have to pay the deductible. Sometimes it pays to play dumb.
oh, so they dont charge you if it "messes up" on its own? you just pay the $50 if it was your fault?

More like 100 if its your fault, and nothing if its a manuf defect. Playing dumb when you know something wasn't right, is sometimes a good thing. This is why we pay the extra money for insurance a month.

well, it was pretty lame. The phone wasnt charging for me so and i couldnt get a proper odin flash so it showed the phone exclamation triangle computer logo but since it wasnt charging and wouldnt boot because of the dead battery i thought id take it in and be like "oh its not charging" but as soon as he plugs it in, it starts
(mind you i realized its charging very slowly and overheating so it pauses the charging)
but he realized i had it rooted and told me to say it was lost or stolen
so now i have a new epic! (that cost $100)
so if anyone wants a semi fully functional epic i have one for sale
i flashed a brand new stock 2.2 rom on it, but i dont think it can ever be used as a phone since its reported stolen
but everything works other than the fact it overheats and doesn't register when you slide the keyboard out (doesn't change orientation but the keyboard still works)
My friend has an Epic and about 2 months ago he left it on top of his car. He did the insurance claim through asurion and everything was good for awhile. Within the last week, his phone would be unplugged, but would still show it charging. Although it wasn't and then eventually die. So he took it to the corporate store for repair and they replaced the battery. Last night it happened to him again. So today he went back and they tore it apart and said the circuit board was corroded.
My question is.... Should he have to pay for an insurance claim again, or should Sprint just replace the phone? This is obviously nothing of his fault. No water damage present.

He should go to a supervisor. he should argue that he was given a bad refurb.

Yeah he should be under some 30 day thing even with a refurb as well, maybe squshy can shed some light.
But yeah I've noticed more people having that problem, for me it got worse and eventually I couldn't turn my phone on.

If you're reading this, you're probably having a problem with your phone screen flickering rapidly for a few seconds, then the phone shutting off. Fear not though, this is not a result of a bad flash!
CHECK YOUR BATTERY!
Yes, that is right, your battery. Feel for any bulges, set it up on a countertop and look at it from the side, spin it on your counter, something.
If it is bulging, call Sprint or Samsung immediately, because your battery is defective, and you don't want it exploding in your pocket!
Now, the reason I'm posting this, is I've searched the internet thoroughly, and have not found one single bit of information on the screen flicker problem, but reading a bit up on batteries, I came up to this conclusion, and I was right, so I decided to alert my fellow XDA members. Stay safe guys.
Also: If your power button does not turn on your phone for one push, then you may have a problem with the power button;the power button or anything else not working, other than charging and screen flicker is not related and you may have a defective phone.
I'll update this later with how it went at the Sprint SAR Center, but I definitely need a new battery.
Edit 9/1/12: Had to send battery to Sammy since the Sprint corporate store wanted to charge me $45. Battery should get here in about 2 weeks. D:
Edit 9/2/12: I visited a Sprint store yesterday to try to get my phone checked out to see about the power button, and it's definitely broken. I had to talk them into replacing the phone rather than fixing it. I also got a white one, too.
Oh thank God, happens less than an hour after full charge, screen flickers, then LOS, then dies, if i reboot, it says battery fully discharged. Then as soon as i plug it in, it's fully charged again
EDIT: Took to Sprint, problem confirmed, spun the battery on the counter, replaced no questions asked

By any chance do you have insurance? I took it to Sprint, and they told me it was $45 since I had no insurance, so I kindly declined. ._.

Tried two already. .-. A corporate and a regular store. Maybe it's just everyone in Miami is a douche
This just started happening to me a few days ago, but my battery isnt swollen.
I just came to the general section to ask if this happened to anyone else. I just requested a replacement battery Sprint yesterday. Not only did I experience the screen flickering and constant shutdowns after about 1 hour, but my battery was bulging so bad that it barely fit in the phone. I hadn't thought about opening the phone to check the battery until the phone started smelling like it was burning.
Woke this morning to find my wife's phone untouchably hot after being plugged in all night and the battery is bulging. Sprint better replace this no questions asked.

Good luck with that! I came in, and they were all like "$45 since u don't haz inshuranse, lol fuk u"
Well, not exactly like that, but something similar. Anyways, I called Samsung, and they were nice about it, asked me to ship it in, and they pay everything, and also went ahead and ordered an OEM battery and charger from Amazon, but I'm screwed because they're both taking at the very least a week.

Keep your eye on it mate, as soon as it's hard to put on the back cover, it's begun.
This is good to know so you can get it fixed quickly
This is wild. I thought there was something deteriorating within my ROM over the past few weeks. It's been getting more sever. Just before typing this, my battery had died and now it will boot to the lock screen and freeze. I noticed things like the battery icon and service icon completely disappear and reappear. This is all new on type of the other issues described in this thread. I'll be calling Sprint first thing in the morning.
this is good info .. I was starting too wonder if I had done something when I flashed a new rom on ...
I called Sprint yesterday and they too told me since I didn't have insurance that it would cost $35 to bring it in for a tech to look at.
If it is just the battery, I ordered another from Amazon. If it is the phone, then I'll have to suck it up. I got this phone the DAY it came out, Sept. 16, 2011.
Needless to say I'm hoping it's only the battery.
2 weeks without a replacement battery, I'm getting frustrated at Samsung lol

If you have any way of checking if the phone is also messed up, do, and if it is, you should go out and exchange the phone for $35. My power button is completely dead, which I thought was somehow related to the battery, but it wasn't. So every time I want to turn the phone on, I gotta pull the battery, and it starts up for me, since I guess the button is stuck. I got mine September 20th of last year, so my upgrade isn't till July, and I'd rather pay 35 dollars and use this thing till Monday, than to use it till July or even worse, not have a phone at all while Sammy figures out what to do with it. Plus, the guy at the store hooked me up with a white one.

Try three weeks to a month. LOL. Apparently it takes "5-7 business days" to spin a battery on a counter...
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
Yep, took 4 days to get there, and 7 days just to look and a bulged battery and another 3 because they "want to make sure" is fu**ing frustrating lol. Even a pack of amputated monkeys can see the battery being defective ...
after updating to FH13 through Kies, whenever I have GPS on and may 3G data on my phone would do a quick restart to the 4G logo bootup. all this within 15 seconds. it is not the full restart where you see the Samsung Galaxy S2 in the beginning the and 4G logo animation.
this seems to happen only when my GPS is on and maybe 3G data, had occurrences with 3G only not 4G.
I have a few batteries for sale if you are interested

I bought a Galaxy Nexus from Wind Mobile(Canada) a couple of months ago and now some problems have arisen. When I got my phone I unlocked and rooted my phone, flashed AOKP 6 on it and that worked perfectly until now.
About a week ago the phone started to run extremely hot and the battery drained extremely fast and would run out when the phone was turned off. I got that replaced because I thought it was just a dead battery. The new one wouldn't charge half of the time and the other half extremely slowly (about 10% in 2 hours.) I tried multiple sockets, wires, and wall charging adapters which all didn't help so I decided that it wasn't a battery problem.
I thought that it could be the software so I returned my phone to the stock rom. That didn't change anything. At this point I'm certain that it's the hardware and I didn't damage it in any way physically or from modding it, it was a manufacturer fault. So I was setting up my phone to get ready for a return but it stopped working entirely before I could unroot and lock the phone. The battery has been drained dead and the phone doesn't charge via USB or AC.
Now I'm wondering whether I should go replace my battery again, which I can do for free, to give me the extra juice I need to unroot and lock it and send it to Samsung? Or should I just send it in as is, not working at all unless a charged battery is in there. The warranty says "(g) defects or damage resulting from improper testing, operation, maintenance, installation, service, or adjustment not furnished or approved by SAMSUNG" in the section of "What is Not Covered" by the warranty. Does this keep me in the clear for modifying my phone? The defect was not caused by the custom rom, root or the unlock.
Warranty: I can't link right now I need to make some posts.
The warranty was for the verizon gnex but I couldn't find the warranty this in depth for the one I have(the i9250 I believe)
The first thing the tech will do is flash a stock rom , he wont sit there playing with aokp making notes in your file. He probably does 300 phones a day, drops them on a dock, flashes them and runs a scanner and repeats. Now if it wont work on ac power, thats another story and if there water damage tags show no fluid exposure, he probably just throws it in a recycle bin and mails you a different refurb.
Anyone working at a repair centre can to make any corrections?

i would revert to stock and send
it into Wind and shoe them my problem. i did it last month with my G2x that had a shot charging port. i charged my battery with a universal charger and flashed the stock Wind rom and sent it in rooted. they may you pay a deposit of $80 if the manufacturer determines it's a hardware issue u get your deposit back if not the cost of the repair will be deducted from it if it is more they will call to confirm if you are willing to pay the extra if not the cost of shipping will be deducted. and if u want a loaner u will pay $10

Alright I brought it in to Wind and it's now being sent over to Samsung. Thanks for the reassuring replies
After having the phone and dropping it several times, usually only when getting out of the car, it has finally cracked tonight. Before it usually had no damage done.
So after reading, even though I have full warranty on it, they do not repair cracked phones. I did have it replaced before for free when I bricked it though.
So, if I purposely bricked the phone, would it be possible to get the free warranty replacement to get a new phone without a cracked screen?
Maybe if your lucky but no they wouldn't even change my headphone port at the store in my city because my screen is cracked

Damnit. I can't stand cracked screens (first world problems) but hey, I guess i'm leaving in January for Air Force anyways. But i'll give them a call anyways tomorrow.
I don't think they will do anything. The sprint stores will look for anything to push it to an insurance claim. My daughters LG 's battery is not holding a charge as it use to. We went to the store to get another one under warranty. The battery's moisture sticker showed exposure, but the phone one did not. Since battery showed red they too me to use insurance to replace it.
Just by living in FL, your phone gets exposed to humid conditions all the time.
Agreed.. they're probably going to kick you over to TEP or Asurion if you have it. (Not sure how it works for Sprint, wish I even had an option...)

That's what they did. Guess I have to deal with a broken screen. I was going to keep this phone until the S4 anyways.
