and am patiently waiting I bought this phone because I don't wanna flash stuff anymore it wastes so much time.
and also with the update did your data wipe?
I just got my gnex yesterday imported from the UK. I haven't received update either. Just patiently waiting. No rush for me as I'm in the states and no volume bug here.

I also am on giffgaff in the UK. Got my galaxy nexus this morning. It is a yagju build (i.e. should be google, not Samsung updated).
I too am stuck on 4.0.1, kernel ITL41D, so the volume bug hasn't even been fixed, which is driving me mad. As far as I can tell, it should be downloading two updates. The volume fix (ITL41D) and 4.0.2, but I am getting neither.
I tried a factory reset and set up everything from fresh, but no joy.
it toom me like 4days after volumn bug fix was release to et OTA update. By tgat time i was on custom rom.
Ive factory reset now and waiting manually flashes volumn bug and now waiti.g for 4.0.2 OTA or for someone to post a linl to it.
I would edit the mistakes in this post but keyboard is fu*king up abd i cant select text.... another bug
Got mine this morning when I woke up. SIM free here.

How do i know whether Google or Samsung will Update my nexus?
Am not entirely sure but the is a thread somewhere about it.
Im on Giffgaff and got the update in the early hours of this morning.
My GNEX is sim free and locale is set to US although im in the uk.
My gnex also showed up as "o2 galaxy nexus" in the market but I just edited the nickname in the market control panel so now it shows as "galaxy nexus"
Download Android System Info from Market. If build is yakju then it's a Google build. Anything else is probably a Samsung build.
Got the update yesterday; Ireland.

It does not matter where you are or what carrier you are on. It only matters what software version you are at, your IMEI is up, and you have internet access. You don't even need a SIM in the phone, only a wifi connection.

Literally every time i check for software updates i get
"Communication failed"
The server is currently unavailable.
Your device will automatically check for an update within the next 48 hours.
Then if i check again it says device is up to date, you can check for updates again in XXhours. If i go into application manager -> AT&T Software Update and clear data, i can check for updates again but i get the same communication failed. I also tried clearing data and rebooting phone, and it still wont check.
And i can't get Samsung Kies running on my windows 7 pc for some reason, so i can't get updates from there either.
Is anyone else on AT&T experiencing these problems? Any fix for this? I really want that update that adds brightness control to the notification menu.

I did not update, but hearing that update would disable local search, add new modem. Nothing about Brightness control
There is no brightness control on ATT update. I was having the same problem you were and exchanged the phone. There is no fix as far as I know for the error you are getting. It is a common issue. Search the annoyances (bugs) thread.
I don't know if the OTA update resolves your issue because they day after I exchanged mine the update came out.

I also haven't been able to get the OTA update. I assumed it was because I rooted and the device is listed as 'modified'. Is the update worth it?
It is in my opinion, and my usage habbits, for the WiFi stability increase that is gained.
Universal search is stripped (searches conducted on phone do not include on device results, ie contacts).
In other words, if you use the Google search by long pressing your menu button the results from your search will only be pulled from the internet.
I rarely use the search built in, so it hardly mattered to me.
Check out the developer forum for ways around the universal strip if you are rooted and want to update.

Well i reseated the SIM card, and removed the little blue tape from the sd slot and the SIM slot, rebooted and still not working.
I wanted to avoid rooting, since the stock software runs so smoothly and i liked being on the latest at&t software. I guess since i can't get OTA updates now theres no reason not to root.
Will this issue be fixed eventually? Or would i be better off exchanging phones while i can?
I'd exchange it. If you have faulty hardware then rooting won't do anything for you.
Peace of mind, if anything, that if you decide to root your phone is functioning as it should from the start.
Others will argue it's software issues.
But, whatever the cause, none of us paid to have a 90% functioning phone from the factory. Go get what you paid for is my take on it.
Good luck.

Well speaking as a software engineer, i'm almost certain its a software issue, most likely with at&t's software update app, or on their servers. Mabey reinstalling the at&t software update application will help?
It sounds reasonable to me. Maybe try the method for No trip flash counter in devoplment? You would be upgrading to the newest firmware and have root and not trip the flash counter. You would still be able to check for ota updates (although should just return the status of your software is up to date since it is a totally stock ROM just with root injected). I imagine that would reinstall the software update service. Although with your knowledge you are way over my head. And whether or not when updating ROMs if that application is reinstalled is something I can't answer.
Maybe just try this first:
Settings> Application Manager> All> AT&T Software Update> Clear Data> Confirm
Power off Phone
Remove battery for at least thirty seconds.
Reinstall battery and power on device.
Try again after device boots up.

I've been having this same problem
I was thinking that its because of AT&T's controlled release of the OTA.
Its been so long since the release, that I can't imagine that's still true. I also agree that its probably a software thing. I have a number of the bloat apps disabled and also wonder if one or more of those would interfere with such a thing.
I'd love to hear about a resolution.

That's an interesting theory, I've disabled some boatware too. Have you tried enabling them? I'm going to try that now.

So, if it's a software issue why is it two identical devices running the same software from the factory yield different results? I.e. my first device would do exactly as your original post outlines, then my replacement device had no issue checking for updates (same stock software, same device form factor).
If you search there are a lot of examples of complaints of this exact issue.
I am also very interested in this because even though there are many complaints out there, the only answers seem to be;
1) who cares this is xda and we update through Odin/cwm etc...
2) replace it.
Good luck, I hope you guys find an answer.

I haven't tried enabling everything. I've tried enabling 'Samsung Push' which seemed like the likely starting point. I've been trying to do some debug on some battery drain things, so I've been hesitant to change too much at once. Also, I can basically only check every 24 hours so its slow going.
As far as the hardware issue, it just doesn't make too much sense that a hardware issue would be causing a problem because the software update would presumably be using the same hardware as the rest of the working smartphone functions. I think the explanation to one device updating and one not is more likely a server device id filtering or a user changing more than 'just the new hardware'.
Its neither here nor there though. Everyone will have there hair brained theories. Why don't we start asking what features will be on the next iphone. Seriously though, apple has to add a removable battery right? (I'm just kidding, please don't spam a million responses about how that will or will not ever happen.)

You can bypass the wait time between checks by going into application managment -> at&t software update and clearing data. Then you can try to update again.

I've had similar issues checking for updates. i gave up and pulled the first update with the USALG1 rom posted in the development forum sticky. I too have several apps disabled (actually moved out of the system/app dir) and was wondering if that possibly caused issues. I never did try updating through kies though.
My kies wont even run on my windows 7 64 bit. There seems to be alot of people having problems with kies on win7 64 bit, nothing from samsung either. So theres really no way for me to get updates
This is How I Got My Phone to Update
I should add that this was my 2nd galaxy s3 to not update. I did a factory reset hoping it would fix the issue. It didn't. I called att customer care for help b/c I was thinking maybe they just set up my account incorrectly when I first got the phone. Nothing else really makes sense. They said they couldn't help and take it to the store. I took it to an att store, and they said they don't actually do any software troubleshooting, so they just exchanged it for a new one. I tried doing the update there, it failed, so I took it home, and I force closed all the update apps, cleared all their data, and it worked as soon as I hit update. If force closing and clearing the data from the att and samsung update apps doesn't help, There may be nothing else you can do except take it in to an att shop.

When you got it to work, exactly what apps did you force close and clear data? Just AT&T software update? Any others?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
I force closed the At&T Software Update app and I think the Samsung Push Service. It is really the AT&T software update app that finally started downloading immediately after trying it again.
So I finally attempted the Keis connection and it worked immediately. I don't know what other problems people are having, but when I installed it on my Win7 x64 machine I had the S3 connected. After I ran the software for the first time it mentioned an update and proceeded to update it. Keep fighting the good fight jefferson9.
My first post. Poked around for a couple hours now and can't find anything regarding my issue on XDA or anywhere else so here goes...
So after about a month, I finally got around to installing the OTA to, what I was under the impression of was, ICS 4.0.8 with Sense 4.0. The phone rebooted, did its thing and congratulated me on a successful install. The first thing I tried to do update my Gmail widget to a stack type widget, which I was told required 3.0 or higher. I then attempted to download and install an app which is compatible with 4.0 and later. This also failed. I then check software info under system settings and noticed my Android version was still 2.3.4. From what I can gather, the current Sense version is not stated anywhere in the Droid Incredible system info as it is on other HTC devices, but I doubt that this was updated either as I have seen 4.0s implementation on other HTCs and have noticed no discernible differences in my interface. I have since power cycled, pulled my battery and reprogrammed my phone but Android version still shows 2.3.4
My question is: was this OTA update actually for ICS and has failed to install properly on my device or have I completely misunderstood what the update was for? Perhaps some sort of firmware patch or build update. I was really looking forward to installing the Chrome browser. Any help or clarification on what has happened would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance.

The dinc isn't getting an OTA of ICS. The new OTA was just a bug fixer. Here's what changed with the new OTA. http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...ncredible-has-a-small-ota-update-coming-soon/
There's quite a few ICS roms, not sure if Chrome works on all of them but I have used it on a few. Just my 2 cents, Chrome isn't ready for prime time yet, it's cool to have but not ready for daily use.
Dang, so no ICS w/o root. I guess it misinterpreted the update list. Suppose I'll be getting a new device sooner than I anticipated. Thanks for the clarification.
Not sure your situation but if you are on an unlimited plan and take a subsidized phone from Verizon, you will lose your unlimited.
Lots of good stuff on the dinc is out there by rooting. I couldn't imagine owning an unrooted phone. There's tons of info on here and people are more than willing to help you with the root process. Give it a thought. Good luck.

I think what you saw was OTA 4.08.605.15 which I suppose you could have interpreted as being Android 4.0.8 but the OTA build number and android version are not the same at all. That being said, I would highly recommend rooting your phone using this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1506258
and then flashing one of the ROMs in this forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=638
There is so much developer support for this phone that it is posed to get JB soon (in fact, already has alpha builds) and already has several very stable ICS/CM9 Builds, I would recommend this ROM by mamarley which is a linaro optimized version of CM9/ICS:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1759007
Like I said, unless you are looking for more out of your phone in terms of hardware for instance if you want a front-facing camera or something then this phone is still great and very well supported by Devs and users alike - Don't give up on the dinc, just yet, it is the phone that will never die!!

I'm currently on a legacy VZW Agent plan with unlimited data under which I am told I must furnish my own equipment. I have a My Verizon account which tells me I am eligible for upgrade though I do not know what will happen if I attempt to use it. I assume I will either be forced to update my Agent plan to a current one w/o unlimited data or switch to current consumer pricing, but maybe not.
Under my current situation what would you recommend I: attempt to upgrade my device via My Verizon and potentially lose my unlimited data, purchase a newer 4G device at MSRP (I have my eye on the HTC Droid Incredible 4G/LTE) or root and keep my Dinc which I have been strongly considering the past several months.
I now live in a 4G market and feel like I'm losing out on the 4G speeds even though I have Wifi access at home and work. The idea of deleting bloatware, increasing the amount of storage allocated for application data and free mobile hotspot with unlimited data is also extremely appealing to me. If I did upgrade to the new Dinc 4G there's no way I would risk rooting it. Also, if I did root is there anyway to install ICS with Sense 4.0 on my Dinc? I just don't know if an older device has the hardware to run some of the newer apps and games I've had in mind.

How much 3G data do you use each month and how much do you pay for it?

I currently have 1,500 minutes, 300 SMS, unlimited data and 50% of all other features like NFL Mobile and VCast that I only use during football season. I always exceed my text allowance though they never charge me extra. I pay approximately $30.00/mo. during the off season and typically use less than a gig.
My Dinc had been power cycling shortly after my phone went to sleep since I updated a couple days ago. I've since wiped the entire cache partition after booting in recovery mode and all has been well for a couple hours now. We'll see if this trend has continued through out the night tomorrow morning.
It would sure be nice if my Dinc had an official OTA update for either ICS or Jellybean

Per this article the updates are expected sometime in late March(end of Q1 2014).
Kitkat & touchwiz combination sounds good but again no idea how many new restrictions it will come with.
4.3 took too long but the wait was not worth it. I am happy with 4.3 on 4.1 bootloader.
I hope there isn't a requirement to update the bootloader.

I have a Note 2 t-mobile as well.. Sorry i never disclosed this. and NO There is no update for it. my note 2 is on 4.3 factory
I've got the AT&T model (SGH-I317) of the Note II running 4.1.2. (I317UCALK7), but I'm on T-Mobile now.
I received 4.1.2 OTA after rooting.
I have been unable to get any updates past 4.1.2, even when manually checking.
A few days ago I checked again and instead of telling me there was an error when checking for updates, it told me there was an update (around 185.75 MB). It downloaded, but failed to install.
I'd really like to be able to get the official/TouchWiz 4.4 build installed.
When 4.4 does hit, should I be trying to get the T-Mobile version or the AT&T version? Or does it not matter?
It looks like I won't be able to get the update OTA since I can't get any updates OTA now and I'm stuck on 4.1.2, but surely there will be a dump I can grab online and load myself, right?

So any idea if a TouchWiz ROM with WiFi calling ONLY happen if T-Mobile releases an official ROM first, or is there a way for devs to make a 4.4.2 with WiFi calling based on the component present in the 4.3 build?
T-Mobile could win me for life by doing two things:
1) Improve rural reception (I know they're working on it with all that new 700Mhz spectrum)
2) Release WiFi calling as an app for T-Mobile customers so I could be free to run a non-TW ROM

Mostly because I'm not interested in changing my phone number (WiFi calling I only really need for incoming calls), and I want to get SMS texts to my current phone #.
Really wish T-Mobile would just release a WiFi calling app for its customers so that I could go AOSP. I am not liking TouchWiz at all after being on an original Droid w/Bugless Beast and then Nexus devices.

Really wish T-Mobile would just release a WiFi calling app for its customers so that I could go AOSP. I am not liking TouchWiz at all after being on an original Droid w/Bugless Beast and then Nexus devices.

You don't have to. You can choose to have all of your calls answered by Google Voice, or by your actual number.
I think you should give it a go..:good:

I have Google Voice for my voicemail, but obviously if I'm in the office where I have no signal, I'm not going to get the call because it goes right to Google Voice voicemail if I don't have a signal. Also, I need my regular number to accept SMS. Am I missing something?
Good evening all.
Has anyone with a G4 on VZW noticed issues with apps on wifi since the latest firmware update? I've called Verizon and been on the phone with them for HOURS to no avail.
The only time wifi works normally is in safe mode. When I'm on wifi, most apps just aren't functional at all. We thought it was some app in particular so we reset the phone and the issue persists. The only thing tech support suggests is giving me another refurbished G4 which will get us nowhere as the new G4 will just be running the same firmware.
This is problematic for me as I work in and out of different buildings on any given day. These buildings don't always provide the best reception. I clamored with Verizon for a different, comparable phone. I spoke with LG and their solution is me sending the phone in with the turnaround time being 5-7 business day which is also problematic as I don't have another phone to use. Verizon refuses to acknowledge it's an "issue" because it's not "wide spread". A quick search revealed that this problem is not limited to just me.
I've exhausted my options. I do not want to spend hours on the phone with Verizon again. I do not want to speak with LG for the same phone again. I simply want a working phone. This is the 3rd G4 that I've had that does not work. The 3rd G4 in almost as many months. What are my options here?
tl;dr This is my 3rd LG G4 that doesn't work and the latest firmware update broke the wifi functionality. Verizon refuses to acknowledge the issue and will only give me the same phone, not a comparable phone. What are my options?"
Yup. Since the update. Wifi on my phone is lagging horrendously.

Have you tried to contact VZW?
Yes, since the update I don't get any notifications while connected to WiFi. My WiFi is slow anyway, so I haven't noticed any lag that others are reporting.

I spoke with them again today. Their only option is to send the same phone again which isn't going to fix anything unfortunately.
Same problem here (and also with friends who have both VZW and the G4). This exact issue popped up on the LG G3, also after an update. Infuriating that they broke another otherwise good phone. The workaround is to install an app called DNSet. It sets the DNS to Google's, which fixes it.

I am using DNSet but still curious if it really works. I feel mobile data still more responsive...sigh.

I am having the same issues. doesn't matter which Wi-Fi network I'm on, it is terrible. Otherwise I love the phone, but this is getting really frustrating
Yeah I'm having the same issue. It's maddening!! Nothing comes through unless I manually sync or have to open the app to get it to sync. How is this an acceptable software update for verizon - who usually requires a high level of quality control on software updates??
The Update broke Notifications over WiFi. It has something to do with IPv6. Verizon PULLED the update because this is a major problem.
Either call Verizon and have them replace the phone (you will get the older firmware 11A back on it)
OR
The fix is to download DDNS or something (It is a VPN service) that routes ALL internet traffic over IPv4 connections. I forget the specific name, but it is being heavily discussed in the "VERIZON UPDATE" forum in the General section.

Read the thread, I think toward the end more.

Give this solution a shot, and what router (make/model) do you have exactly?
You can fix this issue without root by using the app DNSet from the Google Play store. You hit 1 button (the one and only button), and it turns off IPv6, and problem solved.
