FYI, now that the phone is officially released in the UK, looks like Google updated http://www.google.com/nexus with some useful information.
N.B. the specs page for the US version of the site only lists the CDMA/LTE version. Perhaps evidence of a Verizon exclusive, at least temporarily. It also confirms that the LTE version is 9.5mm thick, weighs 150g, and comes with a 1850mAh battery.
The Galaxy Nexus youtube account now has instructional videos:
http://www.youtube.com/user/googlenexus
N.B. This video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oXrgIFMfsaQ shows what the back of the Verizon version looks like, and further confirms a Verizon exclusive, for now.
Samsung UK also opened up their full Galaxy Nexus page: http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/mobile-devices/smartphones/android/GT-I9250TSAXEU

Look on the bright side. Right now only the US and UK have the updated page. All other countries are still on the old teaser page. Which means the US should be the next to get it...maybe...
I know US will be next but what network. My full upgrade with tmobile next week on the black Friday and I really want this phone before I get GS2.

The specs on the US page only lists the CDMA/LTE version. Looks like Verizon got a US exclusive after all.
Also this confirms the 9.5mm thickness and 1850mAh battery of the LTE version that was posted some time ago by a bunch of Chinese tech sites.
Oh Samsung. Somebody in Cupertino is not going to be happy with this image.
Yep. I already gave up after this VZ video. I am going to get GS2. And I think there is no diff.

Interesting...according to the quick start guide, what we thought was a microphone on the back of the phone near the top is indeed a microphone, but it's not a noise canceling microphone, it's used for video recording and speakerphone calls.

Considering how much Samsung have shown themselves to be completely incompetent with this phone, maybe it's not too far a stretch to assume that PDF is incorrect.
It makes no sense to have a separate mic just for video recording and speakerphone calls when every other phone has managed just fine with only one main mic on the phone.
It is way more plausible that the mic on the back is for noise cancellation.

No, it's not. Samsung have been using microphones on the back of their phones to enable stereo audio recording since 2009.
Amaze has like 18 mics and the audio recording still sucks ass.

Perhaps I should've been more clear. Samsung have in the past used dual microphones, with one on the back, for video recording. There's one on my Omnia HD.
Some more interesting things I found on the US google.com/nexus site:
http://www.google.com/support/ics/nexus/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1649769&topic=1650156
This page only mentions CDMA and LTE. Since it's the generic help site for the US Galaxy Nexus, this is probably further confirmation that Verizon has an US exclusive for a while. On the plus side, it confirms that you can turn off LTE if you want to.
http://www.google.com/support/ics/nexus/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1650164&topic=1650156
This page is about tethering. Notice it says nothing about feature availability by carrier, nothing about the possibility of needing to pay extra for this service, nothing about these options potentially not being available. Remember that these help pages are for now specific to the CDMA/LTE version, which means this page is talking about tethering on Verizon. This raises the possibility that even on Verizon, the tethering capabilities of the Galaxy Nexus are completely untouched. Which, if true, probably means that Verizon wasn't able to tamper with the base system at all.
Guys, I didn't get it yet. What the mic on the back is for? For noise cancellation or what? And I've just checked that in spite of having 2 mics, video records in mono (using the mic on the back). Is that possible to record using 2 mics (stereo audio recording)?
That is correct. Its for noise cancellation during calls.

You should make sure that your network provider supports VIDEO CALLING
You don't need to destroy your device by trying to install a camera! You still can get VIDEO CALLS if it is enabled in your ROM. You can see the person who is calling you but nobody can see you!
You might concider the costs of a VIDEO CALL! For the money spent on a VIDEO CALL in 5 minutes you could talk the 'normal way' for hours!
It is possible to tweak the back cam for VIDEO CALLS but what would that help? You can't be watching the screen to see your calling partner and pointing the back cam at you at the same time!
Video calling on the 8525
Look I think the guy is asking a good question. When Video calling is setup on the AT&T network and it will be. it will be one way only and sooner or later they will prefect 2 way video calling. So what is wrong with turning your hand over when it is your turn to talk thus using the rear camera for your side of the video call. then turn your hand to see the video response. The camera in back is far better then the front facing camera. I think if your going to take the time to respond to a question then answer the question, yes or no. Please be helpful not judgmental.

Hmmm, I am not sure in what department of AT&T you're working in but up to now both large GSM providers within the US do not support VIDEO CALLING. All though T-Mobile has started tests in several areas such as New York city and Los Angeles but this is only available to a few selected TESTERS.
Also: what sense would 1-way VIDEO CALLING make in the way you describe it? Bunch of crap!
Hey if you guys actually took the link he posted, he is thinking about installing a TyTn camera and a black case... no need to turn phone...

I dont know, but this threads reminds me of one of the famous stories in the engineering classes about the situation during the space race where the Americans invested almost $1 million to create a pen that can be used in gravity-less place, where the Soviets solved it by using a pencil. You know that you can use a mirror pointing to yourself in the mirror and still watching the face of the person you called (if in fact you are using the back cam for video calling)

LOL, I better go shopping buying a mirror which matches my device then!
But get serious for a moment: I used VIDOE CALLING a couple of times overseas in Germany with my K800i. I was not very impressed - especially not after I got my phone bill!
That AT&T former Cingular did not really concider launching the VC feature in near future is already to see on the available handsets they provide! Also as only one network provider they downgraded the HTC Hermes hardware by taking off the front camera which really shows you 'how ready and willing' they are to launch this feature soon!
T-Mobile is not ready yet either but under lots of pressure from its sister networks in Europe ...
A sad thing is that new features / standards either hit the market in the US 2 years too late or America decides to go a different way! This always has been the situation in past and won't change soon! This tendency you also can see if you take a closer look at MOBILE TV which is launched already in Europe but here in the States it became almost an 'on demand' service' mainly featured by Verizon and TWC in my area ...
You said 2 years, but in my opinion it is at least 5 years behind Asian countries like Japan, Korea etc...
I think I first knew about video calling 5 years ago during the FIFA World Cup in Korea/Japan, and it seems to be already established (correct me if I am wrong), and the technology is still about to be decided in US. Ever seen Tokyo Drift movie (where they do video conference about car racing in Japan)? I wonder when that can be done in US...

AT&T has had MobiTV for a while now... probably 2 years or so.
I agree with what you're saying though. Mobile service providers in the US are ages behind countries like Asia. The main problem though is the average American. The sheep here or perfectly content with paying $100 for a 4 year old cell phone (the Razr) while a $300 phone (The Tilt) gets brushed aside like an annoying fly.
Until attitudes change in the US regarding mobile technology (which they never will), we will never see the nice mobile stuff here.

Yeah, you're referring to the camera built into the front of the device. The European version has it installed, but the US versions had it removed. It's used for video calling and in the US, the cell networks are so bogged down by data usage, that it's really not possible. If you look at the front of your phone, top right, you might still be able to faintly see where the camera is supposed to be.

DonĀ“t know exactly, but sure not here.
Something that is operator locked the front camera cause has forbidden in USA,
and if you unbranded the phone you can use it for video call.
It was removed by HTC for all US phones. It's not forbidden, it's just not practical on the networks in the US. There are way too many teens texting and watching videos of stupid musical artists (Lady Gaga) for the networks to have enough room for live video feeds (that have to be as dependable as their phone service itself).

Yes very true. I own the HTC Touch Pro 2 and mine does come with two cameras one in front for video calling and the other at the back.
the cameras are always removed on branded devices. no us carrier actually supports it for video calling. the camera is only accessible through the dialer so its useless to have it in america anyways. att does offer something called video sharing but it uses the back camera.

Actually, it does not. The gsmarena results indicated that it did not, but AndreiLux helpfully pointed to the system configuration in the source code.
So your choice is quad core, great GPU, and great sound, or a lower price and much better transfer speeds.

The US versions don't have the Wolfson dac but they still sounds pretty darn good. So please stop sweating it. The Qualcomm audio stack it has is great and well sorted out. No worries on that front! I've tested it with Westone UM2's, Sennheiser MX880's, Denon D2000's, and the bundled earphones (best ever to come with a phone), and the phone sounds good. So stop worrying about it. Yeah, but the indications are also that this is related to the video recorder audio encoding, not a hardware or system issue. A better video recorder or a simple update could resolve the issue.

Well as a followup to this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1887750
I'm going to post about the qualcomm audio codec and we can access the registers maybe change the
mic levels, don't know about the wolfson though..
I have (extensively) tested 2 different, brand new, Note II phones (Rogers and Bell) and when the volume is set louder than 1/2 on voice calls they both return somewhat distorted sound due to the speaker itself vibrating, crackling, especially at high pitch or low frequency sounds/voices. The closest comparison - although grossly exaggerated - would be much like a busted speaker (broken membrane), or more like the membrane touching the frame when the sound is too loud. It's not continuous but it rather comes and goes depending on the voice modulation and loudness, and although one may normally overlook it, it gets quite noticeable (and annoying) when paying attention.
On the other hand the very same phones perform exceptionally well when playing any other kinds of sounds (not calls) - YouTube music or voice, Music Player, Pod-casts, Radio, etc - they are all fine, more than fine actually.
Anybody else has noticed that?
P.S. Please don't make comments like "I don't use loudspeaker on calls", or anything alike, I didn't start this for statistical purposes, but rather to figure out whether I bumped into some isolated cases or it's a rather common issue on our Note 2.

I already wrote a post about this. Don't think there's anything wrong with the phones speaker because when playing music, youtube etc..., at the highest volume, there is not crackling happening. I think It has to do with the cellular reception and how the signal gets converted to the speaker. The way the phone handles the calls. Hope a software update can fix this.

That's exactly what I was thinking and, otherwise the reason behind testing myself 2 different Note II on two different networks. The only reason this still bothers me is because I came from an S3 and I was using it the same way, yet NEVER experienced this. On the other hand I know that for marketing purposes Samsung "pushed" the loudness of the loudspeaker on the Note II and while they may have had strict control in digital conversion of the sound files played through various apps, there wasn't much they could do/control about voice (due to multiple network variables).
I have not noticed this on a voice call, however on some games like Angry Birds Star Wars it does this when the volume is all the way up. Glad I am not the only one to notice this. I have the Verizon version of the Note 2. Mine also does not crackle during music play back. Guess its something we are going to have to live with. I even popped the back of the phone off to see if it helped and it did not. IMHO its sad considering how much the device cost. I paid outright for it.
I also hear this anomaly.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
One would think with the size of this phone that it would have a nice size speaker that could handle it all without issue.
i had 3 note 2 ..i had to switch them out for various reasons..but all 3 including my current note 2 has the same call problem using the loud speaker..but again music and everything else comes out perfectly fine..just on calls only..so guess its normal and we cant do anything about it..
I also went through 2 Note 2's for this reason and have the same speaker issue. I have friends on Tmobile with same issue as well.

This is odd..... I have never had any problem with voice calls on speaker. Whats really weird is I came from the SGS2 Skyrocket and it had this very same problem, only voice calls on speaker . I was happy when using the Note2 because I no longer had this issue. Maybe it is hardware related, not the speaker but a chip or something
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda premium
Yes, having the same issue here. Went from hunting down Volume + for my G-Nexus to looking for a way to throttle the volume on my Note2's external speaker .
Its like Samsung got tired of people complaing about low volume on some devices so they went the complete other direction and over powered the external speaker.

I don't really use speakerphone so... j/k yea I've had that problem, work with Samsung phones all day, and it does seem to be a consistent issue. I'm not familiar with Canadian carriers are those both gsm or is there any cdma in there? I know gsm has weaknesses when it comes to the digital to analog conversion & back.. your voice is converted to digital for backend transmission and back to analog on the other end. Maybe the note has some weakness in this area. It would be interesting to hear anyone's experience with a cdma note though.

I don't think there will be an issue with that. Apparently the issue reported on the testing handsets was when you switch from the external to internal display on Chrome. Plus, these are all older software and hardware than the final release models will be. And certainly nothing that can't be fixed with software updates.
If they're serious about the extra support Fold users will get, I'd imagine a faster update to Android 10 than they usually do. That has a lot of built in support for folding devices.

That would definitely be nice. I was able to reserve one. Unfortunately, it's only for At&t and Tmobile. I'm surprised Samsung didn't make unlocked devices for all U.S. carriers but they are probably producing such a limited amount of units they decided on GSM compatible networks. I just heard that AT&T paid $15 million to be an exclusive seller. As of now, no Verizon but who knows how long that will be. They got the 5G exclusive contract with Samsung anyway. I think that the US Carriers have a lot of influence on Samsung because they are willing to shell out so much money. Probably another reason that there is no Unlocked version. I'm surprised that AT&T only offers the Silver and Black colors. I'm glad I pre-ordered on Samsung.com so I could get Martian Green with a gold hinge.

I'm surprised that AT&T only offers the Silver and Black colors. I'm glad I pre-ordered on Samsung.com so I could get Martian Green with a gold hinge.

That explains a lot .Yeah I heard also that you can only get the silver one in at TMobile. Well goes to show money talks ?. I was definitely disappointed since I'm on Verizon.
I've seen seemingly dozens of videos as well as read many first looks and so on. One thing that comes to mind is that somewhere I read that all sales will be carrier, no unlocked sales. Even the ones that Samsung let you reserve were AT&T or Tmo versions, not international unlocked so that one may be true. Sounds like E gets it for the UK, I've been trying to figure out if that one will have an unlocked bootloader...

I'm on the fence. I *want* to be an early adopter but even if I'm extremely careful I'm afraid that $2000 screen will be nicked up in no time at all.
