My Desire sometimes refuses to wake up after being locked, it's never switched off or failed whilst using it, only when left alone. I'll press the power button to wake it and get nothing, only way to recover is a battery pull.
I'm running Cyanogen nightlies. So it's Aosp and no overclocking at all. Recently tried the latest crop of Sense roms all the same symptoms. Might only happen twice a day but that's too much.
I've read a few threads on here but never found any great successes, I've ruled out the battery by changing it, and the SD card by changing it (and even not using one).
Would I gleam much from the logging programs? I assumed if it crashed it wouldn't of logged the problem, if you see what I mean..
Any ideas on things to try would be much appreciated. The phone has never been dropped from any height or otherwise damaged.
Solution on my guide. Deep sleep. I get it sometimes too

..I'm assuming that'd fit in with when I switched from Vodafone to GiffGaff and got a new Sim card? Timing seems to fit too.
It was on 'WCDMA prefered'. Changed it to 'GSM only', as I figure O2's 3G signal is poo, well here it is anyway. I'll keep an eye on it and see how we go.
Thanks again Bortak!

No it's when it switches from HSDPA to 3G to 2G etc... and for some reason it doesn't wake up.. I don't know the details exactly lol.. all I know is it fixes it most of the time lol..

Ah so the phone is at fault, and it just starts doing it one day if you're unlucky?
It's a really grey area for me lol, I haven't looked far enough into it to know for sure. I get the sleep of death in certain locations when I lose signal or it changes from 2G to 3G or whatever (not always).. sometimes I never get it at all, sometimes I do.. It's really strange lol

Yeah thinking about it it's usually at work it happens I think, so it's probably 'location specific'. I'll keep an eye on it anyway.

Thought my Desires's APN was faulty so a did a nadroid recovery losing a few days of sms, but just found out Orange UK data network is down!
ahh that explains why it wouldnt connect was gonna do a factory reset you just saved me that!
Happen to know when its going to be back up?
I had just run setcpu, thought I had fried something, spent an hour flashing different roms.
Glad? its just Orange network problems.
Thanks mate, just installed froyo on my phone, and thought id done something

Looks like Orange network is back up! fingers crossed!
Yup, they should have a network status on their home page.

I have the exact same issue today... Data sending but not receiving. Often I was getting no 3G displayed at all. Thought a recent download was conflicting, and was on the verge of a hard reset. Good thing I saw this!
Central London, work colleague has same issue. No data
I also had no data from about 6pm yesterday. Well I have just called Orange and there was a message saying that there is a problem with their gprs and they are working on it, so I guess us Orange users will have to sit tight. I had flashed several ROMS and the latest radio thinking I had messed up something up, well at least this isn't my fault.
Orange's data network has been really temperamental for me in the four months since I joined. I really hope they improve things.

No data for me using Orange in Preston, luckily my company has a Wifi system in the office though!
Had problems from about 3pm onwards yesterday (all the way on the train from Victoria down to Sittingbourne). Was better this morning but sat here at work (Canary Wharf) and I've had no data all day.
What's the point of a smartphone if you can't use the smart bits
Its just come back up for me
First the 3g turned to a H
then it dissapeared altogether
and when it came back, data is now working.
East London here, the connections still playing up.
Glad we have wifi here.
I'm now showing 3G but no data flowing
Working now for me
Edit: nah its gone again...

Flash a different radio.
Just letting you know if you hold your phones like that, most of the phones drop signal to like 1 bar.

I wonder if your phone is defective -- perhaps the antenna is not connected properly ?
Baseband Version
12.28h.60.140fU_26.06.02.27_M
Mod version
CyanogenMod-7.0.2-vision
Yes my phone does experience a drop in signal when I hold it at the bottom but the only way I can lose all the bars is if I hold the phone in the most awkward way possible, completely covering the bottom. 2 out of 4 bars realistically doesn't hurt me unless I happen to walk pass something with shielding, which might cause me to lose all my bars (For example: walking by the microwave in my kitchen while holding the bottom of the phone might cause a dropped call.) How often am I going to be walking by a microwave? lol
If it matters much, I'm in NYC so the only way I can not get service is if I go underground into the subway or something. If you're in a place with a weaker signal, it could be possible that covering the bottom of the phone puts you on the fence in terms of signal strength
As a side note though, when holding the phone in landscape without the keyboard open, my left hand completely knocks out the wifi signal since the wifi antenna is on the top of the phone. It makes me rage sometimes when trying to watch streaming video lol.

agreed.. i get the wifi issue but doesn't bother me.. my phone doesn't drop when i hold it.. anyways. i just tried.. but i am next to a window and have full bars.. regardless of how i hold it. its probably a defective phone honestly..
So, I finally hit my first problem, and I think I have T-Mobile to blame. A couple of days ago, TMo had massive issues here in Miami. The phones were reading you had full 3G signal, but the moment you even tapped on the phones, the signal dropped and died for about an hour at a time. Ever since then, none of my livetiles which use background agents as opposed to push have updated (with the exception of WeatherLive, but the backside won't update). I can tell when this began happening because of the last timestamp stuck on the tile. I've tried everything from uninstalling, to killing the tasks in the settings or app, everything. Won't update over WiFi either. I really don't want to experiment here and hard reset, so have any of you had your non-push tiles

Multiple restarts, battery pulls, I've turned every connection on and off, uninstalled and reinstalled every app, forced off the agents in settings and turned them back on, turned them off/on from within the app, etc...
I'm 99.9% positive that the issue T-Mobile had caused this, I mean, it was bad. It caused my girlfriend's myTouch4G to run out of battery in an hour and 45 minutes.... I'm assuming because it was probably hammering to get a signal. I'm pretty sure we have other Miami users here who can tell you how bad it was. But, now NONE will update, unless the app updates when I open it, and it's really, really starting to piss me off.

Could mean there's still an outage in your are? I recently had a tower problem for two months and who knows how much longer had I not noticed the drop in data speeds. Anyways, during that time when it was dropping in between EVDO and 1X, certain apps of mine wouldn't update because it'd take forever to pull the data or it'd time out.
So while call wise you're okay, data wise you might be outta luck? I'd call T-Mo and ask.
Something went wrong because everyone calling me went straight to voicemail....
It sounds like something during the network outage may have caused your registry to become corrupted (although I'm at a loss to say how that could happen). I'm afraid you may have to do a hard reset.

I thought about that, but I left the phone connected to WiFi for a total of ten hours, and none of them updated. And the tiles (like 4th & Mayor) which update through push are working, which is driving me INSANE lol.

Yeah, that's really the main thing I'm trying to figure out, too. If I could somehow figure out what caused it, maybe we can prevent this in the future. My only guess is they somehow got jammed up due to the confusion. The phone literally acted as though it had full signal, until I physically did something that required signal (make a call, send a text, get online) and then it would drop out immediately. It wasn't only me. My office has a Vibrant, iPhone 4, and my HD7 on the T-Mobile network, and all three acted the same that day. It was horrible, I almost walked to AT&T and switched over, it was THAT bad, lol. A part of me is hoping they magically start working, because a hard reset at this point would be a *****. On the plus side, it would probably fix my Visual Voicemail issue -.-
It looks like it's definitely screwed, front of tiles are updating, backs aren't

Cool! I didn't even think to ask if you had a recent backup, but that works just as well as a reset or regedit at fixing a corrupt registry. You end up losing a few things, but not nearly as much as a reset would cause.
I tried the reset before the restore to see if it fixed my VVM always on speaker lol, it didn't, so restored, thanks for the help though

Were you traveling through low signal areas? If so that's probably the culprit, your Epic is working extra hard to keep a signal... or maybe the areas you were traveling through were having problems (updating as they call it, lol) with the network...
YES LOL, So what should i do? i use it for work and really cant turn it off i need my updates or messages ASAP, but if im in a low service area should i turn off the data or the network? is there any way to limit it so it can b left on but search so much it overheats?? Thanks!

You could always try different modems... and if you're running cm7/9/10 or any variant of those you can try out the nexuz 4g modems... check out development to read about your options further... haven't had a dropped call since switching to the crespo4g modems... if it don't help, you can always switch back....

Is anyone else seeing this on their battery stats? So much red spots? I am on 2G/3G auto mode. Check attachment for screenshot.
Does anyone know how to switch basebands? Or even what different kinds of basebands are there?
FYI I have 3 other devices which never experience this issue.

Try to set only 2g.
Mine suggestion, use 2g when you don't use internet too much, and switch to 3g when you really need it.
Also 2g/3g switching drains battery, bacause when there is bad 3g signal, device disable it, then switch to 2g and then device need to find network again.. Too much battery drain.

Yes I have got this problem still..
We have tried everything already. Like, swapping SIM1 and SIM2, trying different carrier SIM cards, taking new genuine micro sim cards...etc.. but no help. But some say that if you make it, 2G only then it works fine. But I did not try and not bothered to try such a stupid solution. Hope Asus will fix it in a future FW release..

Hey,
I'm not sure if you or anybody else does still care, but try setting your preferred network type to 2G/3G or only one of those.
I missed several calls on my ZE551ML due to signal loss and doing this solved the problem.
I'm not sure if it was ASUS's or my operators fault, but this helped me a lot.

If your Zenfone lost signal sim card sometime and drain down battery.
Here is my solution, just ROOT your Zenphone and install that app for keep your battery alive: "Zenphone fix" app on google play
Share that app if you fixed this problem.
