Flash a different radio.
Just letting you know if you hold your phones like that, most of the phones drop signal to like 1 bar.
Sent from my HTC Vision using Tapatalk
Ive flashed over 10 different radios and this still happens. I dont know where else to turn?

I wonder if your phone is defective -- perhaps the antenna is not connected properly ?
Baseband Version
12.28h.60.140fU_26.06.02.27_M
Mod version
CyanogenMod-7.0.2-vision
Yes my phone does experience a drop in signal when I hold it at the bottom but the only way I can lose all the bars is if I hold the phone in the most awkward way possible, completely covering the bottom. 2 out of 4 bars realistically doesn't hurt me unless I happen to walk pass something with shielding, which might cause me to lose all my bars (For example: walking by the microwave in my kitchen while holding the bottom of the phone might cause a dropped call.) How often am I going to be walking by a microwave? lol
If it matters much, I'm in NYC so the only way I can not get service is if I go underground into the subway or something. If you're in a place with a weaker signal, it could be possible that covering the bottom of the phone puts you on the fence in terms of signal strength
As a side note though, when holding the phone in landscape without the keyboard open, my left hand completely knocks out the wifi signal since the wifi antenna is on the top of the phone. It makes me rage sometimes when trying to watch streaming video lol.

I cant understand why a 200 dollar phone has such horrible signal strength. I have stock rom gb ( i am rooted though) running on my incredible 2, and my db level is always between -90 to -102 showing 1 bar or none while my wifes droid x shows -72db to -70 at all times all over our house and everywhere we go. It gets even worse when I put a silicone case from verizon on it. Is there anything I can do"? I had a thunderbolt that had slightly better signal but this is ridiculous, anyone else experiencing this?
I think if this continues , I might not have a choice but to trade this phone for something else. I would really like to keep this though so any suggestions would really be appreciated thanks
Unless the devices were calibrated on the same equipment, you can't rely on the accuracy of their signal strength measurements.
Are you having any REAL problems or do you just not like what your phone displays and perceive a problem? Mine shows between -80 and -100 usually and I get great call and data performance out of it.
Try going into settings-calls-then network. I changed from global to cdma and it seemed to help. Ymmv

Try a different back cover. The antenna is in that. May have a bad cover. Mine came with two and one of them gave me better signal than the other. Take it to verizon, they should switch it out for free. Mine gets awesome signal everywere.

that's really interestiing.
Can anyone confirm or have you tried factory reset after GB? On Froyo I had decent/good signal, but after GB it's been horrible. I am steady with 1-2 bars even in areas I used to get full bars and my dBm is around 90-102. My battery has seriously been crap since and I keep hearing and have been told by HTC/Verizon to do a factory reset to fix it but I don't know if I want to. Just curious if anyone has done it.

that is correct. the antenna is in the back cover. try removing the back cover and watch as it loses signal completely. to make things worse though, it seems the antenna is focused at the bottom of the case.. so similiar issue to what the iphone 4 was having.
i wonder if there's small booster antennas you could stick on to the phone somewhere(sure sounds like nonsense but i'd give it a try).

yeah of course they are going to tell you that b.s. just like if you go to the geek squad with a pc problem and they'll say "oh you need to reinstall windows".

Yea, it's the answer to solve anything just like Windows "Reboot the machine" fix.
I don't think I'll do a reset but it'd be nice to know if this will be addressed or if there's a manual fix we can do.
ok, for the hell of it i decided to buy this "cell phone signal booster"

apparently it'll come in 3-5 days so once it arrives i'll try it out and let you guys know if it actually works or not.

i used to have these 'radiation blocker' stickers i put on my old moto razr. doubt they did anything either but my old job was throwing them away so thought 'why not'.
Mine is horrible as well. Just got the phone 2 weeks ago b4 unl. data went bye bye. My old samsung rogue got amazing reception but this doesnt. I have not dropped a call yet though so maybe the reception bar is just a "dummy" graphic?
No difference from froyo to gb either

This signal bar is definitely conservative. I've set the phone exactly next to my Galaxy Tab, both showing signal strength within 2 db of one another. The DInc2 showed 0 bars while the Galaxy Tab showed 2.
I know the extended battery with back cover gives me better reception then my standard cover. My phone loses signal, drops calls and isnt able to send texts or make calls sometimes while my wifes phone is able to and the wifi has been losing signal as well. On craigslist it goes
very interesting to know that the antenna is on the actual battery cover. i removed my cover and i wasnt able to see it (i assume it is built into the mold?)

What I called junk was not a signal booster. It was a sticker to be placed in the battery compartment purported to boost signal when it does nothing at all. They use to be very expensive ($20-$50) until it was proven they didn't work, then the price dropped ($1-free).
Real signal boosters (pieces of hardware which will actively boost/relay a signal) actually do something to boost signal, and they really work. They also tend to not be cheap.

Different from other electronics, cell phones have become the necessity of every one's daily life. If someone still has no idea of mobile phones, you must say that "Out!" of course except the senior citizens. To be honest, cell phones really bring us lots of benefits. We use it for talking, sending and playing. With it, our life can be modern one, without it, we will be live in the Mars, you know, know nothing about each other. But do cell phones have no disadvantages? Of course not, more and more people are using cell phones at the cost of other interests. Noises are everywhere, especially the one of mobile phones. What should we do, throw them away? It is a stupid behavior. Have you ever heard cell phone signal booster? It is a new kind of device to solve this problem, effective in blocking the signals of your cell phone and its nearby base station. one side, the mobile phone really benefits us a lot, but another side we also benefit from its noises for a long time, so the fight between the cell phone and cell phone jammer has been a hot topic in society now. Which side you stand by, jamming or not, it depends on you.

Have you read the dates on the previous posts? Last year, August.
my baseband right now is i9250xxkk1 and i'm getting absolutely horrendous service in my home. i'm constantly on 1 bar of edge and even worse than that, almost everytime i'm on a call it'll just randomly lose service for 30 seconds and come back.
Never had any issues like this on my nexus one, i always had to shut 3G off so it didn't get stuck trying to switch to edge, but once it was on edge it worked just fine. this phone is just getting to the point where i can't make phone calls in my own room.
it's not always though. it had been good for like 4 days, but today now i've tried to make 3 calls and eventually i just gave up and used the house phone. i can even leave it in the same spot with 4 bars of edge, and as soon i pick it up and move it drops to 1 bar or loses service. and i mean move it by only a couple inches. or hell, i can just leave it there and it'll fluctuate between no service and 1,2,3,4 bars.
really hoping someone can give me some help here cause this is getting really annoying.

thanks. i'll give this one a shot. i don't mind being stuck on edge, i just want to be stuck on edge, not losing service every few seconds.
There's no perfect radio for a specific carrier. It depends on your location as well.
I'm personally using xxkk6 on T-Mobile US and getting great service and speeds.
i'm not asking for perfect, just to actually have stable edge service in my home.
so far the radio posted above has worked good. was on a 30 minute phone call with my phone in all the locations it used to drop and it stayed at 2-3 bars. only dropped to 1 a couple times and quickly went back up.
looking forward to seeing if it improves my 3g speeds at all later today.
I'm on T-Mobile and prefer XXKK6.

Sounds like you are experiencing the "bug" that me and many othgers have been experiencing after flashing 4.0.3+ AOSP ROMS... I have a thread dedicated to it with some solutions.
Take a look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1487239 and read through. You will see that there are certain Radio / ROM / Kernel combos that fix this issue. The issue is NOT all RADIO related.
Hope this helps...

for now, this new radio seems to have fixed it for me. i've gone down to 1 bar a few times but i'm not constantly losing service like i was before.

those are a gimmick, sorry And can't do anything about it because they often say "results vary and are not guaranteed".
They don't work. You might as well stick'em on your fridge.

If you want to fix your signal, clean the metal strips on the battery and microSD/SIM covers. If they still have black look on them, call HTC and say that your covers are broken because you couldn't get them off without breaking and they will send free replacements.
Ahh really good to no about calling htc but mine are fine. just when i go away to my caravan signal is abit weak and sometimes drops still i have them on the way so going give them a try haha
Also is lower the dBm the better the signal right???
So....whenever I go into a low signal area ie: lower than two bars, the capacitive/softkey buttons on the bottom actviate by themselves! Then they freeze and I have to turn the screen off to get them to work again. Its really annoying and impeads the use of the phone when this happens. Does this happen to anyone else, is there a fix?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!
what rom are you on, and have you done any mods or tweaking or kernel stuff?
It unfortunately happens on all roms...stock unrooted, calks, cm9, aokp, unnamed, ect....It happened to me on my last epic 4g touch too, this is a replacement.
that is just too weird; especially if it happened on both phones.
if you are on one of the newer AOSP type roms, (CM9, AOKP, Codename) they might have an option in the settings that allows you to turn the lights off, but, then they would be off all of the time..
I can't imagine that you would have 2 defective phones in a row doing the same exact thing..
I know right! The first one was replaced for a different issue, and it happened not as often. I have actually seen a few people mention this problem before in the forums a few months ago but they didn't find a solution. Would sprint replace the phone for free for this sort of problem? I have tep. Btw thanks for the help!
well, since you have TEP, I would take it back; don't mention that it happened to your first phone...
OK thanks for the help!!!
You wouldn't happen to be using the LOS mod would you? I've heard it causes this issue when used on el29+ ROMs since they had the LOS patch the low signal would trip the LOS mod but wouldn't set it to fully reboot it would however open the menu softkey, because it isn't actually losing signal just getting on the lower signal end of the dbm which is -100 to -110 dbm, -100dbm being low signal -110 being no signal. Optimal signal is -86dbm(near perfect) to -94dbm(good signal) anything in-between -94dbm and -100dbm is medium to fair signal

I'm not sure how it works as I've never had to use it, never had LOS. But I know it is flashed just not sure where it goes if its flashed to the same partition where PRL etc reside then it will stick across multiple rom flashes as that partition isn't touched by wipes

Having these exact same issues, never put two and two together about signal but I will watch for that now.. Phone is brand new, asurion replaced my evo3d for this because they were all out of e3ds. Happy with the phone all in all but this rogue key press thing really screws me and frustrates me to no end.
Hey folks,
Just a quick question I was hoping to get some clarification on:
Like many, I got the 4.2.2 OTA on Tuesday evening and everything went fine with the download and install. That being said, I'm having some signal issues that are a bit strange. For the most part the signal quality is fine. Not really having any connection issues, but I've noticed lower bars being shown overall. After doing some digging though I've determined that apparently 4.2.2 reports signal quality differently than 4.1.1 did... representing a much truer value based on dBm and not overly inflating things for constant 3-4 bars. Essentially it's like I remember way back with 4.0.2. I still find it a little odd that I can show -85dBm and only have 1 bar, but if that's how things are reported in 4.2.2 then so be it.
The thing that's bothering me though is this: at times my signal will read 0dBm 99asu. I'll have zero bars showing, but it will still show 4g in the notification bar and will say connected to the network in status. I can make calls, text, surf the web, download apps, even run speed tests without any problem (although not great numbers, they're not horrific either) Eventually bars and dBm "come back", but the amount of time for that to happen varies. Again, nothing seems to be affected by this, but it's just a little disconcerting to have happen.
So, has anyone else experienced this? Google searches show some talk of it but otherwise haven't turned up much. I've done a battery/SIM pull and that didn't change things. Is it possible something may have gone a bit sideways in the ota download? Was thinking a factory reset may help too but not looking forward to wiping my device only to find out this is pretty normal.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
It's possible that the OTA updated the baseband, please look into that as I'm not entirely sure. If that's the case, then it might just be that the new baseband is not suitable for your coverage area in which case I'd suggest you flash a previous release.

Thanks for the reply. I'll fully admit I'm not as up to snuff on this as others, so please correct me if I'm wrong... but the 4.2.2 OTA did in fact contain new radios from VZW, so shouldn't the baseband have been updated for everyone who took it?
Mine is: I515.10 V.FK01/I515.FK02
As I understand it that breaks down to phone model (I515), HW rev 10, with the new radios being FK01/FK02
Wouldn't every VZW GNex that was on the 4.2.2 OTA have the same baseband; outside of having either HW rev 9 or 10?
Currently I'm locked, stock, not rooted... yeah, probably one of the last Thinking I may unlock and root and try the 4.1.1 radios again. Do I need TWRP or CWM to flash those or can that be done if I keep stock recovery?
As always thanks for all input, much appreciated.
My Gnexus is the same . but despite that it actually performs better oddly enough
Do/can you update roaming (*228) with the Verizon nexus? Or is that just something I could do with my old fascinate (yes, a fascinate and then nexus... I am a glutton for VZW punishment).

You can, but as far as I know you'll then have what is considered a 3G PRL pushed to your phone, something beginning with "5"... if you just let the PRL update and push on it's own like it's supposed to you'll have a 4g PRL, and will begin with a "1" Both work the same and pick up both 3G/4G signals...not sure what the true difference is honestly. I've been on 15192 for ages now and it's been fine up to this point... Think I'd just as soon keep it. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Yeah, did that... battery pull and sim card pull... left it out for 30 min then back in... no difference. Like I said, it's not that I'm having a huge problem with my data connection, it's just acting... strange... kind of all over the place. Lots of fluxuation, odd readings/bar equivalents, and the whole 0dbm 99asu thing with still being connected. However I've also now started seeing higher than normal "time without signal" percentages... Just flakey. And frustrating... no issues at all until the 4.2.2 ota.
mine is not really a problem but I had way more bars of coverage in a multitude of places (work, home, gym, etc) on the old radios. I havent looked at the dbm's but visually it's different. might be something for someone interested to look into.
btw, im in fresno, ca.

Well Google changed how the signal is read visually through the bars to provide a more accurate reading. You should look at dbm

Having the same experience here (Whidbey Island, Washington) where the 4g signal clings on until it absolutely had to fall back to 3g. New radios may be contributing, but the change in coding to report lower signals may have improved the ability to hang on to a 4g signal. Hand off seems pretty slick too, but that's likely a function of the new radios that came in the OTA.
