This week I'm presented with a choice: purchase a HTC Desire HD or a Samsung Galaxy S. I already gathered some info on the Galaxy S phone but I cant seem to get a hold of much about the Desire HD.
So I wanted to know which is the latest official Android version for the Desire HD? (no custom mods, no "leaks", just interested in the latest one released)
I plan to use my new phone mostly for games so I'd also appreciate it if anyone can give me details on how the phone performs with those aswell.
2.3.5 I think. Gingerbread.

I personally am not a far on the custom ROMs...I know some of them work really well, but I prefer the stock debranded ROMs...cant explain why but I just do...and I read that HTC actually said that Desire HD won't be getting Ice Cream Sandwich for sure. =/
2.3.3? O_O
I thought there was a 2.3.4 released? now that's a surprise.

I'm not sure how reliable this is though.
Current latest android version is 2.3.3 GB + Sense 2.1
Games would probably run smoother on the SGS since it has a better GPU, however most games still run smoothly on the DHD.

Hi guys,
I'm looking for a new custom rom for my phone, just rooted it... all gravy but fancy trying something of the things those genius chefs have been cooking!
I was looking for a Gingerbread rom with the HTC Sense style theme, but can't seem to find one; does one exist? I've had a look through the index and the developmnent forums but can only find Froyo Sense Roms. It's not a huge issue but it would be nice as I quite like the Sense layout and apps n' stuff
Also, any recommendations on roms? I think I'm going to try some of the gingerbead ones regardless of the htc sense(I like the sound of some of the enhancements) but wonder if anyones using something they can whole heartedly recommend, froyo or no?
Yeah, I would be interested in this too...
Not gonna happen, would need a complete re-write of Sense

Indeed. Try different roms and see which you like. Also, if you want different "styles" of sense, install a HD rom but it's still 2.2. Or you can just wait for 2.3 to be released for Desire which shouldn't be that long really.

Ya I've gone for a 2.2 for now, I imagine I'll stick with it for a while until I feel a real 'need' to upgrade to 2.3.
Until HTC releases the 2.3 update for the Desire(s), nothing can be done :/

Yes wait for new sense gingerbread. Or honeycomb rom

To be honest, I much prefer Gingerbread ROMs and have found Ultimate Droid 3.0.0 to be the best so far.
On top of this I use Launcherpro, which contains awesome Sense style widgets for calendar/facebook/bookmarks/contacts etc.
See it here:
http://www.appbrain.com/app/launcherpro/com.fede.launcher
I also use Fancy Widgets with the H7 clock theme as this gives me the Sense style clock on my homescreen as well.
See it here:

I love this setup

I've actually seen a photo or 2.3.1 Sense 'running' as it were so it exists but it's on one of the new HTC handsets. Whether we'll see it on the Desire is another matter
was it the new htc desire 2 ? ? cant wait for desire 2 to be released.. im sure it packages gingerbread with sense and full support for honeycomb !
Honeycomb is for tablets only. There will prob be something similar for smartphones later on, maybe 2.4 or 3.0, who knows. But no, Honeycomb is non existant for phones for now.
HTC desire S
with sense and android 2.3.2 and now??
search on the youtube this sentence:
"HTC Desire S Videopreview da Telefonino.net @ MWC 2011"
I have faith it will come out until mid-year has the rom gingerbread-Sense

2.4 has already been released, it's an update release from Google of 2.3 full of BugFixes. The Desire S will be released running 2.4, as will the HTC Desire when the new sense comes to it. Check out the thread I posted covering HTC's confirmation plans to update the HTC Desire range to 2.4. This includes all models of the HTC Desire released at the moment.
Also Honeycomb will be released for phones, just only phones that have Dual Core Processors, so thats every single HTC device at the moment out of that league. Hope I helped guys
Sort of it...
Okay, Here's what you can get if you son't mind it not being an ACTUAL Sense UI
Sense UI Themes for Launcher Pro
It's not perfect, but a quick google of Sense UI Launcher Pro theme brings up quite a bit...
i'm kinda new to this but i really recommend this oxygen-2.0-RC7
I think our wait will be over soon.
Already sense ginger is on you tube.

Even with a dump, that new sense looks very demanding and the specs of the Desire S are slightly better than the Desire, still im not upgrading to a Desire S, my contract has almost reached one year, and after that I still have another year to go..

so lets hope the porting will start happening soon
And you know why? Because Wildfire S has the same size of ROM as our Desire and it's running Sense 2.1 just fine. It will be probably stripped down, but still better this than nothing.
what about sense 3.0
hopefully you are right! when you mean stripped down what features are missing from the wildfire s that are normally in the ROM?
3.0 won't work as the graphics will take for ever to run properly on the Desire
I am happy with Sense 2.1
It's already possible to use sense 2.1 for our Desire. The Roms aren't stable and basicly features like the camera doesn't work at the moment.
Look at these Roms:
[ROM][Ginger Sense][04 Apr]RCMix S v06 A2SD/DATA++, long sms works, TV animation!
[ROM][Ginger Sense][2 April]Cool DesireS v1 A2sd+ 1.28.401.1 Base
Oh, thank you for informing us, Captain Obvious!
Ours version is 1.0 (at least mine is so) and I m contented to 2.1 which is available on DHD, DS and incredible-S now, hope it comes with gingerbread soon.

Are you serious? GB is significantly different from froyo. Better power and application management, NFC support, VoiP/SIP calls, SIP audio for video calling, better download management for HTTP downloads, new sensor support(gyroscope), audio, graphic and touch screen input enhancements for game developers, support for webm/VP8 video playback, aac audio encoding and bumped api's to 10 with more support for native code.
Not to mention the new skin for AOSP and the new multi touch KB. I'm sure I left out a bunch of stuff but that's what I can recall from reading. So that being said you should take a moment and actually do a bit of research before posting a response like that.

Okay true .. but I'm not freaking out like "Oh I WANT Gingerbread already" there is no point in begging for it .. its more like you will get when you get it.
But then again, it shouldn't be the case that we're still stuck on Froyo when Gingerbread has been out for so long already and Google has already announced Ice Cream Sandwich.

Again you guys need to research or have some actual information on the subject posted. GB is only running on a handful of devices (officially) and ICS will not be out for a while. So GB will come I'm sure, in its own time. So the majority of handset owners are "stuck" on froyo. Keep in mind any device with a custom UI is going to take longer than a vanilla device.

I've read in many articles that, HTC said that gingerbread would come in Q2, Since the end of Q2 is in june, i don't see why we wouldn't get in then, especially if the first incredible is supposed to get it in summer. Motorola isn't going to let the Droid X get gingerbread before the X2, i don't imagine HTC will let the first incredible get it before the inc2
I would agree too, I think they are waiting to release the bug fixes like backwards maps in the GB release. Costs them too much to keep pushing out patches.
i have a sample inc2 device with GB 2.3.3 sense 2.1 (s/w version 2.09.605.1 baseband 20.27w.30.0811u_1.07.00.0507_3) loaded. This is not a mkt sale device but since I got it with that loaded on it i know GB will be coming to all when verizon finishes whatever tests it does. Also since it is so stable, i doubt that everybody getting GB is too far away.

Do we have any inkling as to what GB will look like and what flavor of Sense 2.1 we will get? The leak of GB for the Thunderbolt had Sense 2.1 with the Sense 3 notification pull down, but not the new lockscreen. The HTC Flyer is running GB and Sense 2.1, but the lockscreen is the Sense 3 style. I would love to get the lockscreen and the quick settings in the pull down.

I am all for this, but it would be nice to see it come as part of the update from VZW/HTC. If HTC already has it for Sense 2.1, lets see it on our devices when they get updated.
I've read that only dual core devices will get the full on sense 3.0 experience(officially). Maybe jcase or one of the devs in the know could verify this?

I've asked the people at HTC and it's what they reply.
Anthony: Will HTC release the Android 4.0 update to wildfire S?
CS : We are currently developing a software update for the HTC Wildfire S , and committed to our customers with the perfect embodiment of mobile phone use, but test the stability of the system and before that the system will continue to use the original, Sorry for this inconvenience, but please rest assured, our commitment has not changed, please pay attention to our official channels on the latest developments on this subject, thank you for your patience and understanding. (Using Google Translate, with a little bit modify)
A software update is in development! Yes! This means bootloader tools will be included!
I don't think they mean Ice Cream Sandwich with this update - HTC are still deciding on how they are going to develop and incorporate that with HTC sense. But it's definitely going to appear on 2011 models - but not soon.
All I want is the bootloader to be unlocked. I don't need them to work on version upgrades. There are already some ROMs available without S-OFF. It will only get better.

It wasn't that massive, nor has there been any evidence of anyone actually exploiting it.
Also, it only applied to Sense 3.0 and 3.5. Sense 2.1, which is what the WFS has as stock, was unaffected.
HTC have since acknowledged the problem and have fixed it themselves, and most custom Sense 3.0 / 3.5 ROMs cooked by any decent developer have the files in question removed. However, if you're using a custom ROM where they haven't been removed you can do it yourself with Root Explorer or similar app.
However, if you still want a Sense-less ROM the closest you'll get on the WFS is the CM7 ROM in the Development section

After looking through quite a few pages and using the search I couldn't anything on a 2.3.7 Rom for this phone. I'm guessing that most of the Epic roms run off of the base of the stock Samsung rom. I don't know much about Samsung phones as I own an OG Droid running Liquid Smooth, and a Droid X running OMFGB and have found it easy enough to always update those to the latest version of Android.
I'm looking for a stock Android rom for this phone without all the extra crap attached to it.
I'm also trying to figure out how to undervolt this thing as it heats up to 104F after ten minutes of use. I put ACS's ICS EI22 V2 on there and it seems to have helped. While also uninstalling useless .apk's I don't need.
This is my wife's phone, so any roms where something doesn't work are out of the question. It was hard enough to explain the difference between Touchwiz and Launcher Pro. Thanks for any help you can provide!
2.3.5 is the highest stable stock rom. Check to the Development Sections. As far as UV/OC you'll find Kernels that support that as well.
is there are reason why roms only go up to 2.3.5?

Changes above 2.3.5 are only for phones with the NFC chip which the Epic don't have and pertain to Google Wallet.
Will this be the last official update now that Ice Cream Sandwich is coming to a phone near me (but not mine)?
CM7 Selfkang reads as 2.3.7, but without NFC, it really doesn't add anything.

Yeah, I think there is no real change for the Epic from 2.3.5 on CM7. It is more to keep all the versions uniform.
