Hey guys, it's been a while since I set foot in here and am behind on all the latest ROMs. I browsed the first few pages of development and perhaps I missed it but I'm looking for a ROM that is based off the official 2.3 build, but has Sense stripped out of it, so it still has working 4G but none of that crappy Sense bloat. I know there was a froyo ROM like that (Vael or Mik perhaps?) but I want to make the upgrade to Gingerbread. Been running MIUI forever and want to try something else. Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA.
Not sure exactly what you asking for. Is it supposed to not be based on sense at all? If so go with OMFGB you can Google it and find it. I'm not trying to look for a link right now. I've run it and its a great 2.3 build based on Vanilla. I don't run it because I like sense 2.1 which is in the Ginger ale rom

Sense 2.1/3.0 is not the same as Sense 1.0.
You should give it a shot. With the GB added in, it's really pretty nice.
I really am not interested in Sense at all. I am a LauncherPro guy so having Sense on it is pointless. What I am interested in is a ROM based off the official OTA that has all the Sense elements stripped out of it. Still uses a Sense kernel, still has 4G, but has no Sense. I did a little research and the Froyo equivalent was VaelPak, but it doesn't look like he has a GB build yet.

Yea try out OMFGB if you don't want sense. It meets all your requirements in the rom , although Hipkat is right, sense 2.1/3.0 it nothing like sense 1.0.

Just looked into it, still isn't quite what I am looking for. It doesn't look like what I want is currently available. Might go with SalvageMod, I've heard good things about it.
I don't think there are any 'senseless' roms of the OTA out yet. Also just for tossing ideas, if you want to try CM7, its on android 2.3.4 now, and with the Tiamat kernel, epic win. Also good seeing ya. And you, leave MIUI??? The Rapture is upon us.

Hey bud! Long time! No rapture yet, Mr. Camping postponed that till October now Haha yeah, I think I'm done with MIUI finally. I really want to take advantage of 4G to tether my iPad 2, and for some reason MIUI has been giving me nothing but problems lately. I really only want to do this once, so I was hoping for a senseless ROM because I'm sure they will be more stable than other GB/AOSP ROMs. Just don't want any more issues. How stable is CM7 now?
Hey do you know if the sense removal scripts work with the latest OTA? I might just do that and call it a day.

What is the difference between what you are looking for and just installing launcher pro? Then just use TB or root explorer and delete all the sense crap you don't want like all the widgets and such.

Well there's much more to sense than just the launcher and widgets. It is very deeply ingrained in the ROM. Deleting all that crap is the next best thing, but not ideal for what I want.
Teh_Roxxors is gonna laugh here, but I just made a last minute executive decision to update to the latest MIUI instead. I was just on stock GB Sense for a few minutes, and besides it being completely unbearable, I STILL have no 4G by my house. So, screw it. MIUI GB it is.

Yeah I was just wondering why it had to be a sense rom... sounds like CM7 would be right up your alley since it doesn't have any sense at all.

Just because I don't want to deal with stability issues. Every time I flashed CM, I always had reboots regardless of the kernel, same thing with Ultimate Droid. The only AOSP ROM that was ever good to me was MIUI, but even that started to crap out towards the end. I am not as flash happy as I once was, the last ROM I flashed was MIUI 1.1.28 and it was beautiful for a while but lately it had been crapping out ridiculously. I figure if the ROM was Sense based, I wouldn't have those issues. No matter though, I just flashed the latest MIUI GB build and it seems pretty good. It's gorgeous, they have definitely come a long way since 1.1.28, and I think it's going to be pretty stable for me. Though, only time will tell.
I need a Gingerbread/Sense ROM with and emphasis on stability. Close to stock would be best though it isn't paramount. I realize that ROMs are like beers, you get a different opinion on which is best depending on who you ask. The circumstances just don't allow me to try out a whole slew of ROMs.
A good friend's wife has an EVO 4G (I have a Sensation, G2x & HD2) and is having trouble with stability. I suggested we root it and slap a custom ROM on it. While they were over I rooted it and got everything ready to back up and slap a ROM on it. Problem is I am unsure as to what ROM to put on it. Yes, I could try out several ROMs to find one that works but this isn't going to go well at all. The reasons should be obvious for anyone who is married. This is magnified by the fact that I would only have access to the phone maybe once every other week. I need a silver bullet for this one.
Thank you for your time.
I've tried a ton of sense roms, MikG still wins for stability and everything working for me.
I'm currently running synergy w/o sense lockscreen. Loving it. I've had no problems with stability.

Thats the one. I used to use Synergy to but I found it to be a bit slower than MikG and Mik sees more updates.
If you go Synergy RLS1 is the newest version. RC2 is older and was an unofficial release I believe. I never had a problem with the lock screen on Synergy.

1. If she is having a problem with stability on a stock unrooted Evo then she needs to backup her information and just do a factory reset.
2. Trying out several ROMs is required because phones react to various ROMs differently. I can tell you that a certain ROM plays well with my phone but it may not play quite as well with yours. Then comes the issue of kernels. Kernels have a large impact on the phone's stability as well.
3. Tell your friend to do his own homework on how to get her phone up and running or have an affair with her so that you can see her more often and get more opportunities to test ROMs/kernels on her phone.
What version of Sense would you prefer?

The EVO 4G has 2.5 by default I believe. I run the leaked 3.5 on my Sensation and it has some improvements over 2.5 and a couple over 3.0. If there is a very stable and fully functional ROM with 3.x that would be better. Stability and functionality still trump everything else though.
They mentioned that Netflix has to work as they use it often. Skype working properly with video would be good as well.

i agree AOSP Roms are a lot better, smoother, and allow for more customization, that's why the thread i made in my sig is only about them and not about sense based roms. plus whenever an ICS rom comes out it'll be AOSP
I think all would agree that an official Cyanogen CM9 build for the Fire would be the best thing that can happen. I went to the Cyanogen forum asking them about a CM9 for the Kindle Fire.
A staff response was this:
Talk to one of those xda devs and see if they are working on getting the code into the CM tree. As long as someone is willing to maintain it to whatever standards CM requires (of which, I don't know... they would need to contact a dev or submit it to find out), I doubt CM would turn away the code to incorporate it into the official tree.

I think this thread here is the "unofficial" cm9 that your looking for. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1411895
Once they get stuff working properly I'm pretty sure it will then get added to the official CM9 section. I could be wrong though so don't quote me on that lol.

Can someone explain the advantages of CM9 over CM7, I loaded the current build of ICS and I could not see any advantage at all, matter of fact it ran quadrant bench mark slower then CM7.
Also is the quadrant bench mark a good way the measure on rom against the other, I've been setting up each rom, MiUi, cm7, ics , running quadrant, then adding V6 supercharger, then the 2 different kernals etc. to see which combo gives my fire the best performance. Is there a better way to compare ?

It's all personal preference, some people just want the latest and greatest ROM and will deal with not having some stuff working. Some need a more stable ROM for whatever reason. I really don't pay to much attention to quadrant scores as long as a ROM performs nicely for me that's what matters.
Also with the Kernels, although I haven't tried any on my Fire yet I do know that they will perform differently on different peoples hardware. Like on the Evo 4g Alot of people like a certain kernel and it works great for them, but when I try it on mine it's not so great and I get random reboots and other weird things going on.
As long as any combo of Rom/Kernel works for you the way you need your fire to run then I would just stick with it.
Thanks for the reply, You make a good point..

CM7 is an operating system designed for mobile phones, that is more or less tweaked and patched into looking ok on a tablet.
CM9 is designed for tablets, and has a lot of features that you don't get in CM7.
And finally, comparing the quadrant scores of a 'nearly stable' ROM (CM7) to a pre-alpha that doesn't have 100% working drivers (CM9) isn't exactly apples to apples.

Why do people keep saying cm 9 is specifically for tablets? CyanogenMod keeps all its maintained devices on the latest Android version regardless of if it's a phone or tablet. Also, isn't the only devices officially running ICS, phones? However, from what i understand, the way Google is doing things is that ICS isn't specific to being a phone or tablet OS but rather both a phone and tablet OS
No. Xoom got ICS today, Samsung Galaxy Tab is going to be getting it. They essentially built on top of Honeycomb to bring the same/a similar experience to mobile phones.
The entire interface between a phone with ICS, and a tablet with ICS are completely different. Give it a try, and you'll see why it's a tablet OS, as compared to CM9.
Oh, and in regards to the CyanogenMod questions: CM has versions. So CM7 is Gingerbread, CM8 would have been honeycomb, and CM9 is ICS. Just because Cyanogenmod7 can run on a tablet, doesn't mean it was designed for it. CyanogenMod runs on the HP Touchpad, and it sure as hell wasn't designed for that.

That sounds like what he said, but it's not true at all. The CM9 build maintained by JackpotClavin has a great tablet UI and it's a seriously promising ROM. It's way more tablet-y than CM7. I just wish I could figure out a way to use the dead space at the top and bottom (portrait) or on the sides (landscape). I could stick a weather widget in there or something.
That's not what I meant to imply. If you want a tablet experience: CM9 is the way to go.

CM9 is nice, but I have a pretty good CM7 tablet experience as well. Which I will stick with until CM9 is ready (it's not IMO).
I use ADW. I have the Dock bar completely hidden and have the desktop set to expand. Notification bar is hidden and can be brought back with a simple swipe down. Swipe up show's notifications. Volume Control is used. You can see it at the top in the top pic. It is set to disappear after a couple seconds. Same thing with Button Mapper. Everything is themed to look like ICS.
Hello everyone,
I'm new here and new to this scene, but familiar with hacking on other types of devices. My sis just upgraded her phone and gave me a Inc2. My first instinct was to hack it and so I ended up currently with a rooted S-off Inc2. My next issue is what Rom to use. I see so many out there and have had problems trying to install a couple. Since ther are so many, i know theres no clear cut "Latest and Greatest" but as i stand now, i have no clue where i should be looking. So I'm asking what u guys would consider latest and greatess. I'm really looking into going as high up in the OS as possible while also having the best stability with as much working as possible. Any Idea's?

What do you prefer? For ASOP, we have some very stable ICS CM9 ROM's and Stable CM10 Rom's. The CM10 ROMs don't have a working ffc camera or 720p camcorder, but everything else seems to work. For those who like sense, Nit's Sense 4 Viper Rom is quite nice. I typically change ROM's every two weeks, so i have tried quite a lot.

Paranoid Android its a Phone/Tablet hybrid if you don't use the ffc or video that much it is my daily at the moment. "(11-4-2012)(JB)(CM10) Global 4.1.2 (4.2)" and "{10-25-2012}{Rom}{ICS} Official Global CM9" are pretty smooth running roms (I haven't had a chance to give build 3 of CM10 a try yet). "[ROM] [Port] Andromadus Mimicry 1.5 [CM9.1 Stable]" another very good ICS rom and very stable as well. Those are the ones I have been messing with the last couple of months. I think it is all in your tastes amigo. If you are a flashaholic like most of us I am sure you will try most of them.
ViperINC if you don't need BT audio. There are issues with the fact that the beats audio controls the BT audio and there is no output.

I have the Incredible HD RLS 2 (ICS 4.0.4 Sense 3.6) ROM if you want it. It real nice and loaded with features. Only problem is that the memory is like maxed out. (cause it pretty much stock) after my first pass through I was able to free up about 60mb. I personally get rid of junk like calander, weather, etc. You can get way smaller apps for these in the app store. After I free up space it ran faster. Me personally... I like to keep mine stock (deodexed of course), debloated, and themed. Mine runs so fast! If you were to go with this I'd recommend a overclocked kernel as well!

What kernel are you suggesting to use for over clocking a sense ROM? I haven't seen anything about custom sense kernels for ICS. If you are referring to using aero's kernels, those are aosp ROMs only.

There is not any custom kernels for sense roms.

Sorry about that.. I never messed with the kernel just assumed it would help and that there was one. (Smacked myself for assuming) lol

No biggie, just wanted to be sure someone reading this didn't go trying to flash one and freak out when it didn't work and start 4 new threads asking for support.

Are cm9 roms the general go to for stability on the dinc2? I'm getting one for my wife and would like to have an idea of what to throw on it after s-off. I don't need bleeding edge but don't want her stuck on sense either.

Cm7.2 is probably safer. I think all ICS and jb ROMs have slight issues at best due to lack of source. MROM is nice. If she doesn't want to deal with occasional reboots and often flakey cameras (some are pretty stable but results vary), I would stay with gingerbread.

What are the main bugs in ics and jb? Is cm9 stable enough to use as a daily driver?

DD is subjective. I have used PAC now for a DD. It has some hiccups occasionally but I work through it.
You should read through some of the threads for more details. Not everyone has the same experience. But you may experience lag, random reboots, camera force closes or a need to clear data to make camera work periodically. You will likely have to manually input APN settings, which only has to be done once so no biggie there. You may have no problem at all. For someone who likes tinkering it isn't a big deal to do those things. But if you are looking for a ROM for someone who just wants it to work, and not have to possibly switch due to issues, and who hates resetting everything like a new phone, gingerbread is more stable. All the ICS and JB ROMs use a hacked gingerbread kernel except for sense ROMs using a stock kernel. There is no custom sense kernel for ICS or jb. And there are some nice sense ROMs on gingerbread also, with great features. And because they are what the phone is meant to run they don't really have issues. I know you say you don't want her "stuck" on sense, but she might like it. Take a look at nits sense ROMs, as well as skyraider zues. I have used zues as a fallback for quite some time. Andy bones had some nice mods for it too. Bottom line, if she doesn't mind a few possible issues try a few and see, but if she just wants it to work right, don't mess with her phone just for your sake.
If you do try some, dk's ROMs and chilly's have been good so far. Not perfect but great work considering lack of source. Hope this helps.

CM7 is rock solid. Everything works.
I'm using an aeroevan kernel and the supercharger script. Also incredicontrol to oc to 1.4GHz.
Flashed the latest Verizon radio.
Rock. Solid.

We picked the phone up yesterday and I was pleasantly surprised to find it already s-offed and cm7 installed on it. I don't know about the radios on it. Probably won't mess with it since it's for my wife. Thanks for all the help.
