Hello, SO I rooted my phone using Alpharevx a while ago, and it's been functioning very well. Recently, I flashed the ROM vivow gingerbread 4.08.605.3 by virtuous, and now my phone is unrooted?! I have flashed this before, and this didn't happen. So I'm wondering, how did this happen? Am I really unrooted? Or can I just flash another ROM that I have and become rooted again?

Hi all, i rescently attempted to root my desire running 2.2 but failed so downgraded to 2.1 and rooted it fine, i have since realised where i went wrong with rooting it on 2.2 (no drivers from htc sync) so now i have 2 questions
1. Is it worth me un-rooting, upgrading to 2.2 and rooting again?
2. Can i un-root as said in the tutorial on here or is there more steps to it as ive flashed the leedroid rom?
Thanks in advance!
If you flashed leedroid you have (the latest) 2.2 so why unroot and update? The only issue you might have is that you are using a old radio.

I just checked and it is 2.2, sorry this is all new to me lol many thanks for the reply its cleared a few things up for me.
One more thing though, i have flashed the psychosis 5.0 rom and i believe its an old version, i love the looks and layout of the rom, is there a more up to date rom with similar looks and layout?
Thanks
That Psychosis ROM is based on 2.2 (FRF91) so it's not old. It's just not really been updated in a while
Ah ok mate, thanks for the reply guys, more than helpful!
Hello,
Last night I spent hours to install LeeDrOiD V3.0.6-R2 GB on a HTC Desire: it went in a bootloop probably because the phone is S-ON and (my mistake) I had no backup. I was too confident having flashed 100 of times my galaxy s and my galaxy tab without any problem. But I'm a beginner on HTC Desire.
So finally it worked and I have now the LeeDroiD GB rom, but I really suffered until 4 am.
But the phone is still S-ON and to prevent similar issues next time I want to have it S-OFF.
Is it true that Alpharev solution doesn't work with GB?
If yes, what should I do?
Thanks for helping me.
Best thing is to go back to stock, root again and then s-off and then flash a GB Sense ROM

Hello Eddy,
What a quick reply! THANKS.
I thought about going back to stock, you convinced me.
Do you think this one could be ok: RUU_Bravo_HTC_Europe_1.15.405.3_Radio_32.30.00.28U _4.05.00.11_release_121865.exe
Is there anything I should know before installing it?
no, don't go back to stock. You need a rooted rom, so I recommend using a close-to-stock but rooted Rom. So don't use the ruu (otherwise you need to reroot with unrevoked first, then S-off with alpharev) but flash a stock rooted rom in recovery.
There is a Everything-about-Desire-thread in Development section and you can download the correct rooted rom in there.
Actually any rooted Froyo-Rom without D2SD (!) should work (for example Leedroid 2.x without A2SD did work well for me) but I'd still use a hackfree rom.
Is there any reason for me to update my already rooted 2.2 Evo to the latest just to update? Do I get anything out of it?
If so, where can I get the original PC36IMG.zip to flash? Thanks.
If you're satisfied with the way your device is performing then no, there is absolutely no reason to upgrade. Having said that, if you want to see how newer roms look and perform on your rooted device then yes, you should upgrade from 2.2.

Any idea where or how I would get that original zip file and go from rooted to non-root?

No need to unroot and re root. That is just plain stupid. If you want the features of 2.3 flash a 2.3 based Rom.

I think your question is more around whether the new root method gives you a "better" root than the original, or if it "updates" something. In this situation, no. You're either S-OFF or you're S-ON. If you'd rooted with the old methods and you're S-OFF, there's nothing gained by re-rooting with revolutionary.
Just sleep better at night knowing that if you ever need a replacement, it can be rooted!

+ 1....... Well stated, my friend....

If you're on 2.2 (Froyo) and already rooted, you can simply get a new rom with the latest Gingerbread kernel included and flash it (recommend doing Nandroid and app backups first).
MikG 2.45 is a nice sense-based rom which has is gingerbread (2.3.3) and incorporates the new sense 2.1 and some 3.0 widgets. Very nice, just follow Mik's recommendations for installation (wipe everything but SD card) for first install.
I woke up this morning with the OTA alert... It stated that it was downloaded and ready to install. I hit OK to install.. it counted down to reboot, but never did.
During the last OTA, I did not want to upgrade so I modified the build.prop file. I am rooted via unrevoked s-off stock 2.2
How can I get the OTA 2.3.4 to run on my phone?
Thanks for any advise!
I am rooted with s -off AMD am stock too so I want to tag this for more info.
I have yet to install the update though

If you are rooted and would like to run the new 2.3.4. OTA updated. just install this rom.

it is the same thing as the OTA but in .zip form. you can flash in clockworkmod and go.

If you have ClockworkMod Recovery, you'll need Android Recovery.
Thanks for all of your replies. I have the slcd screen and the last time I tried to flash a rom it almost bricked my phone. It was a huge head ache, so I stopped. When I had an Eris, I was flashing roms all the time... but there was something about the way the slcd screen and some roms would work and others would not...
I hope this works...
Not sure if having an SLCD screen has anything to do with it. I have an SLCD screen and i have flashed many Roms with no issue. Which Roms have you tried installing?
I rooted and s-off'd my dinc2 when the capability first came out for froyo. I'm looking at needing a warranty replacement; will I be able to root this and get my CM7 nandroid backup restored to it?
I'm assuming I use this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1298990
Just want to be sure it works for the current phone software.
Yes. It works. Got a CLNR a week and a half ago and am currently running Virtuous. Used that linked method

whole process worked without a hitch. nandroided the old phone, flashed to stock rom, set back to s-on, then got the old phone s-off'd and restored my nandroid. happy as a clam.

i am not sure i understand what you say ?
do you mean that i can flash a stock rom and get S-on and lose the Root ,
then i am able to restore the Rooted Nand and become Rooted again without the need to gain S-off again by Revolutionary ????

He probably flashed the RUU and then rerooted, and then restored his backup.

i guess so
I ran a backup on the old phone, then restored a stock ruu as outlined on i think rootzwiki. I then restored s-on, put the sdcard in the new phone, cracked root on that one, downgraded the boot, s-off and cwm. I installed cm7 so i could update cwm, then restored my backup. Wouldn't restore in the version of cwm that the unlocking tool installs.

I would've installed CWM, booted installed rom manager, and updated through that. Might have saved you some time.

oh, i agree. but i had a CM7 kit on my sd card, and didn't have a rom manager zip, so i went with that rather than muck around trying to get it.

But you get ROM manager from the market....?? lol
then you're smart and i'm dumb? there's more than one way to do a thing, and i really didn't give a crap about how long it took as i was also involved in other projects at the same time. either way it still took almost no time at all.
