What are you looking at on your browser that this makes you nervous?
Seriously though, it is kind of annoying that the Dolphin team slipped this one in.
This does not really bother me that much. I stopped visiting Dildo wearing lesbian midget nymphs a long time ago. I can see why they want this info. Doesn't dolphin mini have a turbo mod where you can have their servers optimize the page for your phone. So they want to precache popular pages.
An opt out would be nice. I just added them to my host and redirected it. Dolphin is the best browser for me, so I will keep using it.
"No such thing as a free lunch!"
"If a product or service is free, then you are product they are really selling."
That's it, no more Dolphin for me. I use to use it as my main browser but not anymore. They have now screwed up twice in a very short amount of time (the email deal that happened not long ago was effed up as well). Opera here I come (come on Firefox, hurry up already with the flash deal!).
Goodbye HD, hello Mini (and Miren)
Hmmm Dolphin responded, and their reasons for doing this, while rather stupid in terms of implementation, seem harmless. It has to do with the browser's Webzine feature. So they turned off the server for now (urls are still being broadcast however) until they can implement a toggle in the browser itself.
Moving on ...

I know that the new xda update includes adds and other stuff, there's fine.
I was wondering, if possible can xda make a paid app without ads? I would defiantly buy it. It would be nice and xda be making money too.
Please post here if you would like that and maybe we could get one.

hey dude every time i try to log on to the APP it tells me " need administrators permission to login...? " what do i have to do?
We added an ad so that we can continue to provide the app free. Surprisingly, we have gotten a lot of messages from people willing to pay to remove the ad. So, we are considering this, perhaps with a premium version that also adds new features.
Thanks for your input!

We're working on an update that should fix some of the issues with 1.3.1. In the mean time, try reinstalling, or rebooting your device. It works fine on my Nexus One with 2.2.1.

I agree with the no ad concept for a fee.
We are constantly bombarded with ads daily from every other medium so when I see ads, I uninstall.
In this case, XDA remains on my device because this is the best forum on the net, period.

Didn't know ads bother people so much. Games I know, but these ads are not bothersome at all.
Hypothethical question for the devs which would make you more money someone with who buys a $2 app or someone using an ad supported app. Just wondering

My carrier disabled third party billing to my account, but I think XDA uses a reputable source for the ads in the app (likely admob or google), who wouldn't allow someone to billl you $10 through merely clicking an ad.
But I'm sure Svetius can clarify which service generates the ads, and while it pays to be cautious, I reckon you're unlikely to get something like that as an app advert (though I am sure someone will try it some day...)

Hey guys, as the title says does anyone have any idea if Swype will ever be available to purchase? I've used two hacked betas both of which have expired. So I am now using SlideIT, I know Swype is a bit of a contentious subject on here, but I'd gladly pay $10+ for it, I just want it released. It's been in beta stage for a year or so now. Anyone have any ideas?
Sign up for the beta and use it, still going on my handset
I think I did ages ago, they've stopped accepting testers haven't they? I've heard nothing from them.
If you registered before then log in and see if can use the next beta version. If you've not then try and register but I don't know if they closed it again after opening it up a while back
Awesome, the beta is still open, I've got it back! Thanks Eddie.

Not surprising, as there are already apps out that work in a windowed fashion, the OverSkreen browser app is a good example.

Lol, that's funny. Although the feature is more eye candy than useful, I thought I'd point out how I greatly increased the utility of the pop up browser. If you're using aokp u can create a nav button that'll launch the browser. Now, regardless of what app I'm in, I can launch my browser to look something up without exiting my app. Some launchers also allow you to assign certain functions to the hardware keys so you can have the same function on another rom. But aokp rocks anyway. Just my 2 cents.

No the world won't necessarily end then. But we will have encounter with the Lords of the stars. 6 more years will pass before the start of the 13 heavens, as December 21, 2012 markets the end of the 9 Hells. Water of truth poured from snake, moon and Sun will give rise to a new Earth after it rises from the ashes of the previous one. There will be survivors. Beware bearers of false gifts, and broken promises. There is much pain but still time left. Believe there is good out there. The conduit is closing. Quote me for truth.

Who am I name calling? The existence of Nexus fanboys are a real thing. Whenever geeks are involved, there will be fans and there will be fanboys. Leading up the launch of the G4, a point made about the G4 was that there would be less bloat and more Google which is why the stock LG browser no longer exists and why Chrome is the "stock" launcher.
Nexus fanboys are very vocal when it comes to putting down phones they have no intention of ever buying since it's not a Nexus anyway. You don't see them so much here since this is a phone specific forum, but elsewhere in general Android land, they are there.

I'm simply stating the obvious. And that's great that you love to discuss technology without emotion. Good for you. Nobody called you a fanboy. Nobody called anyone in this thread a fanboy. The question was raised why the stock browser was removed and I gave my opinion on the matter.
Had I said nothing, there would still be fanboys. And if you don't believe "fanboy" is a real thing then you clearly haven't been on the Internet long. Go to any gaming forum and your eyes will be open. On the Android side of things, look for any self proclaimed Samsung knight.
