Swype, when, if ever, will it be released? - Desire General

Hey guys, as the title says does anyone have any idea if Swype will ever be available to purchase? I've used two hacked betas both of which have expired. So I am now using SlideIT, I know Swype is a bit of a contentious subject on here, but I'd gladly pay $10+ for it, I just want it released. It's been in beta stage for a year or so now. Anyone have any ideas?

Sign up for the beta and use it, still going on my handset

I think I did ages ago, they've stopped accepting testers haven't they? I've heard nothing from them.

If you registered before then log in and see if can use the next beta version. If you've not then try and register but I don't know if they closed it again after opening it up a while back

Awesome, the beta is still open, I've got it back! Thanks Eddie.

Where do I have to register for swype beta? Is it way better than slideit?

Anyone else for the Facebook beta app?? I did a few weeks ago and haven't heard anything. I wonder if and when someone gets to test this out we could rip the app and share it with rooted users??

I signed up too but didn't get contacted. I haven't heard of anyone that had though. Maybe they haven't released anything yet.

I think you're right Mr. Bandito... I thought I remember seeing something about being contacted after June 20-something... I remember thinking to myself, "wow that date seems far away" when I signed up for it.

It was listed on some android sites and feeds. A link was provided that redirected you to a Google survey to determine who will participate in the beta testing of the new Facebook app. No details on what this beta app will include. I'm assuming once someone gets it we can post a link to a download, right? When I completed my survey I was honest and told them what I was running. ( cm7 android version 2.3.4 ect). This makes me feel less likley to be asked to participate lol.

What site(s) have you seen this on?
It was on android central, and sleetherz I believe. Probably 3 to 4 weeks ago.

No Swype Compatibility?

I just picked up this tablet and when trying to download swype beta I was told my screen size is not supported and to go to the FAQ ro see which sizes are supported. Well I did and there answer to the question "you just need the latest version of swype beta" which leads me to believe that they now support every screen size supported by android. (Maybe) but I downloaded the latest version... so can anyone else tell me there failure or success stories on the matter?
And am truly sorry if this has been posted before.
Thanks for readinig,

yeah, its something with honeycomb 3.2 that reports the screen size incorrectly, and the swype developers believe its a fix that needs to be given to each device individually, so its likely we'll not see an official install anytime soon, or ever. I've heard someone got it working with an apk they brought over, but it stops working correctly a lot. So if you wanna bring one from your shift, then it might work, other than that, I hope you got slideme when it was $0.10. Also hi notsointeresting, what a coincidence meeting you here.

Alright used your idea and just pulled my a apk from the shift and it seems to work perfectly fine. Although this might be too big too use Swype on and m might just purchase swiftkey for tablets.
And hey didn't know you picked one of these guys up too. It's great to see a familiar face around here.

There is a whole discussion in the themes and apps section covering keyboards, you may want to check it out. I vote for Thumb keyboard.

Swype enthusiasts

Go here:
Slideit was a poor substitute, but better than the ol' hunt-'n-peck standard keyboard. This port has been working flawlessly for me so far, give it a try!
And I did this post with Dragon dictation… it's pretty cool!

There has been a working port around for quite some time. That was the first thing I did when I got my Nexus.
Swype is considered warez here you might want to remove that link.
Hopefully an official version will be released soon. I tried slide it for awhile but it's just nowhere near as good as Swype. Had to find myself a modified version as well.

Seeing as the support dude from Swype pointed to it in their forums and said to give it a try, I'm comfortable with it.
As he explains in the GN thread, Swype for the moment follows an OEM business model, so there's no retail version available to be stealing as warez; further, there is an android beta freely available to anyone willing to register on their site.
This is simply the beta version with the graphics resources modified for our higher resolution screen.
Swype doesn't seem bothered by it, why should I be?
Of course, ripping it out of an OEM phone and distributing it - that would be wrong.

Here I am, quoting myself...
Just wanted to add that Swype stands way out from the crowd in the response, open, partnership they have with their users. This is just one among many, many examples. Their forums are a joy to read.

Please do not post any links for Swype on here.

Attention SwiftKey Users!

SwiftKey 3 has just been released in beta. Boy oh boy does it look sweet. Check it out HERE. Unfortunately SwiftKey's site is getting punished right now so I haven't been able to get through to get the APK. If anyone else can, a download link would be appreciated!

I'm in the same boat as you...Unfortunately, their website is always slow. I went and joined the vip section to vote on the ICS theme they were working on and it was torture to get anything done. I'm really hoping I can get logged in soon...Will share asap.
Oh man. Gotta have this! Swiftkey hands down is the best keyboard I have ever used, period. And I have tried them all. I have tried swype over and over again and I just don't understand the appeal. Terrible. I can type a message three times faster than any swyper. Not to mention it's nearly impossible to type without looking at where you are swiping, and then all you're doing is smearing your screen up. I'll try to get the beta as well and post here if I do.

I'll give the beta a try when I can get it. But A.I. Type has always been better for me the "free" version was good got the paid version a few after using it. I do have a paid version of swiftkey as well though lol. I buy to many keyboard apps :/

Buy the app.
It's literally only 1$, and it's personally my favorite keyboard on android.
All right! Thank you
