Metrodroid metropcs evo - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Metrodroid my GPS and YouTube don't work anyone with fix?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App

I would do a reinstallation of the rom. Maybe it didn't set up properly.
What are your proxy settings?

How to check method for proxy reading? Is there a app?
Htc Evo flashed to metro thanks xda!!

No app.
Simply input ##3282# on your dialpad. Next, select edit. Then input msl.
Now select advanced and scroll down to see HTTP & RTSP proxies. Both of them should be edited to be 0.0.0.0
That should fix youtube.
Not sure about your gps. That should be working upon initial installation of rom.

[Q] Howto 'Boost WiMax' on SyndicateRom Frozen?

I'm running SyndicateRom Frozen with EC05
and I'm trying to pull open the extensions menu mentioned in the thread :
"[Tutorial] Reconnect to 4G much faster"
at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833332
However, when I dial ##3282# (DATA) I am taken to a "Data Programming" menu with options only to "View" or "Edit".
If I follow Edit, and enter my MSL, I see options for Data Profile, EVDO, Advanced, USB Charging, and "Others", but none for Extensions, and none of those menus contain the Extension values mentioned in the tutorial.
I do have 4G Radio on before entering the dialer code.
Am I doing something wrong? Is the dialer code different in SyndicateRom than from regular stock? Are there any other ways to get to this menu?
Thanks much!
You have 4G?!
I thought it was just a myth. Lolz

Wimax (4G) tweaks/3G Tweaks

In order to make changes such as these (There may be more or better ones listed for the Epic 4g but these ones are for the EVO 4g) follow these guides:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=733773
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726877
First you will need your MSL. You can either go through the hassle of contacting Sprint and trying to get them to give it to you, or download a terminal emulator program from the market at follow these instructions:
Once in your preferred terminal program (connecbot, terminal emulator, etc.) type the following EXACTLY:
getprop ril.MSL
It should display your MSL.
From there you can do the 4G and 3G tweaks.
Turn 4g on, go to the dialer, enter ##3282# click view then click Wimax. Enter your MSL, scroll down and choose extensions from there. This is where you will change certain settings mentioned in the threads above. To change the following edits to suggestions below, just long press the option you want to edit and click write extension.
1. Scroll down the list and click on "WiMAX_Scan_Retry(s)"
2. Enter the number 15 and click "OK" (This equals 15 seconds instead of 120 seconds, stock is )
3. Scroll down the list and click on "WiMAX_Entry_Delay(s)"
4. Enter the number 0 and click "OK" (This equals 0 seconds instead of the stock of 300 seconds)
5. WiMAX_Entry_RX(RSSI)(dBm) - Default is -89. This is the minimum signal it has to be picking up to connect. I'm not sure what the best value here is, but the lower the number, the quicker the connect, since it will connect to a weaker signal. You'll have to experiment some with this, I recommend trying about -95 to -100 first. If it's unstable, raise the value closer to -89.
6. WiMAX_Exit_CINR(dB) - Default is 2. See the entry CINR value for an explanation of it. If the signal degrades to a CINR of 2, it will drop the connection. Change this to 1. This should let you stay connected longer. If you run into problems with staying connected but having an unreliable connection, change it back to 2.
7. WiMAX_Exit_Delay(s) - The default is 2. Since it's measured in seconds, that means if the CINR drops to 2 or below for 2 seconds, it will drop the connection. Raise it to 5. That should be enough to cover just a random drop in signal that will pick back up right away. That way you don't drop connection if you drive under a bridge or something (I'm rocking mine at 15s here, but it'll take any value up to 600 seconds, which is 10 minutes!)
8. EntryCINR, change from 0006 to 0004.
Thanks to Geniusdog254 and swatspyder for finding these tweaks!

Not 100% sure, but one tweak I did use on the Evo 4g that I just tweaked on this device is the:
RTSP Proxy Address changed to 0.0.0.0
RTSP Proxy Port to 0
HTTPPD Proxy Address to 0.0.0.0
HTTPPD Proxy Port to 0
Stock is:
RTSP Proxy Address: rtsp.vog.sprintpcs.com
RTSP Proxy Port: 554
HTTPPD Proxy Address: pd.vog.sprintpcs.com
HTTPPD Proxy Port: 8085
To get here dial ##3282#

It is suppose to help streaming and 3g. Try it, if it doesn't work go back to the stock settings above.
Im really curious if this works for 3g. No 4g in indianapolis and 3g speeds are usually 100kb.

I called *2 and first thing I asked was for this and she gladly gave it to me, as always it is hit and miss. If they don't do it, hang up try again. There are other ways but I think they all pretty much require root, I could be wrong though.
to the OP.. i dont have the phone yet but im wondering about the wimax settings myself.
first thing to try.. ##DATA# but instead of going to edit.. go to view. see if theres a wimax setting in there. it does NOT show up when u pick "edit". if there IS a wimax option under ##DATA# > view.. then it will most likely require your MSL.
another place to try is ##DEBUG# which will require MSL as well. there might be wimax settings somewhere in there.
one last thing i'd like you to try is to install AnyCut from the android market(free). open it and choose to add shortcut or whatever(forget the exact option) and it will give you a list of all the system apks/menus on your phone.. scroll down and see if there are any wimax options. if there are.. could you please list them? could you also make shortcuts for each wimax option you do see and run them to see if you find anything interesting.
please report back with details. you're my eyes on this for now

You are 100% correct. The wimax settings are in " view" and not "edit". This is the same way it was for epic1, now to get my msl? Does connectbot require root?

Isn't it getprop.ril MSL in terminal? Not 100% certain but I did the 4G tweak on my Epic and it made a big difference. Let me search for the thread from the Epic forum that has a full how-to..

Alright, with you last paragraph I think I may have found it. Here is what was listed and here is how to do it (you have to have 4g on in order to make changes however):
WiMax CT
WiMax DM
WiMax Mode Change
WiMax_CFG
WiMax_CFG
WiMax_NETEST
WiMax_RC
WiMaxLineTest
In order to make changes such as these (There may be more or better ones listed for the Epic 4g but these ones are for the EVO 4g) follow these guides:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=733773
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726877
Download Any Cut from the market, open it and choose New Shortcut, then choose Activity. Scroll down to WiMax_CFG (the first one, there after two listed) and it will create a shortcut on your home screen. Open that and select Extensions and make the changes from the threads above in that menu (just long press what you want to change and click save, it will automatically change it). You might have to reboot your phone in order for them to actually take but I'm still not sure if this all works.
It also looks as though you may be able to adjust frequencies. I'm tempted to test them. In wimax_cfg the first one under MRU you'll see 4 sts of frequencies and you can edit then it seems.

2.In QSPT Service Programming under M.I.P tab set the Mobile IP behavior to 'Simple IP' This will allow your phone to connect to 3G when available or 1X when not in a 3G service area.
If there is 3G signal in your area after completing these 2 simple steps you should now have 3G.
If your still having trouble getting 3G and your sure theirs 3G in your area theres still hope, Try forcing 3G by setting your EVO into HDR Mode.

Hope this helps you guys!
Steps to manualy setting your EVO into HDR Mode:
*Warning: Manually forcing your phone into HDR Mode or Digital Mode my cause issues like your PRL going into 0000 IF your phone has been MEID repaired. You know who you are so do not attempt this if your HTC EVO was MEID repaired. Only try this if your are sure your HTC EVO was not MEID repaired.
Dial ##3424# (Sets your phone in Diag mode).
Connect your EVO to PC thourgh USB.
Open QPST.
Start Clients>Service Programming.
Read from phone.
Go to System tab.
Set your Preffered Mode to: HDR only
Write to Phone.
Reboot your phone and your HTC EVO should now be forced to connect to 3G!
The reason why I ask you guys to do this by QPST rather than by Advanced Settings is because most of the times you change it on Advanced Settings but it really doesn't change anything.
Although you guys can check to see if your connected to Evdo using Advanced Settings App. Open the app and go into Phone Information, take a look at your Network Type it should now say CDMA- EvDo rev. A!

Cool, Thanks for posting, Not as quick as it should be.. I guess you have bad reception.. And strange that your speed test app isn't working.
I'm gonna start adding confirmed MetroPCS 3G locations by members in the main post.
Not sure what it is. Speed test app drops my connection to 1x but when browsing the internet or using wifi tether 3g stays. I was also expecting higher rates but guess it was my location. Still better than my previous peek of 25kbps

I've tried flashing the PRL using CDMA workshop, and also by downloading the new EPST.apk, and using dialer codes, but to no avail. I'll gladly post up my speeds once I can get it working. Thanks a lot!
My info is

If MetroDroid is AOSP, your best bet would be to do a nandroid, wipe, flash to any sense rom, run epst, dial ##775# and update PRL. Once you are done, roll back to MetroDroid.

Hey egzthunder1,
That's a really good suggestion, You reminded me of the PRL Project Rom. Its a Rom you flash exclusively to update your PRL.
Check it out here's a link:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1176169

Just updated my prl..i am also in Stockton...no 3g for me...I have a flashed htc evo (Metro PCS)...
Update: I got it working!
I did extensive search on this. Here is what worked for my flashed, rooted, HTC Evo, Sense, gingerbread....my speeds were at about 96kbps to 129kbps....after prl update 600kbps to 2mbps....
First, the dial key did not work when I dial ##775#- which translates to ##PRL#...someone said on different posts that either an HTC or Sprint update removed this function... so you have to install EPST.apk onto your phone to make it work...I included it. That is only if yours does not work. You also have to know your MSL number to unlock your phone...try all six 000000, if you don't know it, first. There is an app on the Marketplace, search MSL reader- hopefully that can tell you your number. Place the 3022 prl file onto your sd card...i included the 3022 prl. After installing EPST, dial ##775# and it will ask you to enter your password, then tab update prl...then the EPST should load up...it is buggy, you will see it takes a couple of seconds to load up...and if it asks you to foreclose or wait...make sure you press wait...then it will load up. Then it will ask you to find prl, if it's in your sd card, you will see the prl file on the bottom, tab on the right circle input then ok. Then it will take you to update PRL and you can see that the file 3022 is ready...then hit menu and click on the plus to commit modification...wait it is making changes..then the EPST will tell you to reset by pressing ok...you should see a pop up saying commit successfully...if it doesn't reset after 10 seconds...then you reset it manually...that is it...should work....
Thanks to JD's help, I've been able update my PRL and get 3G speeds.

Have 3g working in Atlanta area with 3024 prl...seems to browse web ok but speedtest won't run as someone else mentioned. Coverage seems poor...I live close to the city and keeps switching back to 1x at my apartment. Stays connected to 3g at my work in Norcross.

No youtube/video stream on 4G only 3G??

I'm having an issue where I can't stream videos on 4G....I can browse anything no probem, but no video. (Have plenty on bandwidth) It acts like it's loading but never plays back. 3G works just fine, any suggestions on what I be possibly missing? Thanks in advance

Hey thanks! I am currently running stock as a matter of fact. I know it used to work a while back etc.. Is it affecting only youtube?
There's a solution I found, I had the same exact problem about a month ago. I called Sprint about it but the person wasn't really helpful and told me that the network was just having some issues...
(You'll need your MSL btw)

I've reprogrammed about 12 total devices and they were all experiencing the same issue, including mine. What's funny about it is that even searching for the videos works while on 4g, just streaming it doesn't work. All other streaming apps work fine.
I've done data restores on all those devies and also factory resets, still not working. Every device has same prl same YouTube same firmware
I'm not sure, but I tried checking logs to see what was wrong...i don't exactly remember what the code was...the same problem happened when trying to watch YouTube through the browser as well...I'm just glad I found a temporary fix...
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
Youtube seems to be working fine on 4g connection for me. Completely stock. Unless it somehow switches to 3g when it starts streaming. I highly doubt it, considering I usually turn 4g on before watching videos because 3g is just too slow.

This worked perfectly for me, thank you so much. Had been frustrating me for months

(Q) Sprint MSL unlocks DATA but not DEBUG

Used the method posted here to get my MSL. It worked great to open the ##DATA# menu to remove the sprint proxy. However, when I use it to unlock ##DEBUG# I get the invalid code errors. Sprint game me an alternative MSL which didn't work. I have terminal emulator and the sprint msl .zip.
Any thoughts?
Sprint's unlock code is
777468

you dont need the lock code
You can access the debug menu without the lock code by using anycut from the market. Add a shortcut to IOTHiddenMenu(screenshot below). Gives you access to all that fun **** w/o the dialer codes or lock codes.

The 777468 is the code needed in the debug(##33286#) menu. The msl is the one for the data (##3282#) menu
ok i got it to work to use Get My MSL you have to update you busybox, but default just a regular root seems to install busynbox 1.20.1 you have to upgrade to 1.20.2 and the get my msl will work. just tried it and got my msl coded you can download the latest busy box from the market.

works like a charm had to speed of my 3g since no LTE coming to colorado for who knows when. if you try it allthe portsettings are under multimedia
then you can put in the following
1. Get your MSL, by calling Sprint or by using CDMA workshop like i explain below
2. After you have your MSL go to your phone and type ##3282#
3. Click Edit Mode
4. Click Advanced
5. Scroll down to RTSP/HTTP Setting
6. Change RTSP proxy IP to 0.0.0.0 or You can leave this blank if you like
7. Change RTSP proxy Port to 0 (Zero)
8. HTTP proxy IP to 0.0.0.0 or You could leave this blank if you like
9. HTTP proxy port to 0 (Zero)

You are better than sprint!
Sprint kept telling me that the unlock code was the same as the MSL. Thanks everyone! I still can't get my data much above 20k (often lower than that). last night until this morning it was over 1MBs, but no more. The data is HORRIFIC. I wish I knew how slow slow really was (slower than dialup!).
No, the unlock code is the code for the ##DEBUG# menu. The MSL is the master subscriber lock that is used under the ##DATA#. Take a look at this thread to see how to get the MSL: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1745888&page=3.
By chance did you take the OTA update since you were getting 1.0Mbps? Look at your baseband and see if your last 3 say LG2. If they do it might be the OTA that killed your speeds. Search about it and you will find the way to revert if you are having issues.

Thanks for the input. I did update the baseband, but the speeds were slow. Sprint officially said that the network is seeing "a lot of traffic" in my area. The good news is that in 2 weeks they'll do a data upgrate to the local tower (I've heard that before). And in 7 months we get a T1 line! (Only will help marginally, if at all).
I think I'm going to start working to get out without paying ETF. I'm trying to find the contract's arbitration provision to go that route if needed.
If anyone else is in doubt, DON'T GET THE SPRINT GALAXY S3, THE DATA IS SLOWER THAN DIALUP!!!! (I get 8-20k down 123k up most of the time, even on the weekends).
That is a matter of opinion though. I live in the Atlanta area and my S3 is giving me 30 down on LTE and on 3g I get 1.5 down.

Dang, that's cool, unfortunately there is no 'activity' for that menu on the Galaxy Nexus (Sprint). Can't find one for Debug, or 1x Engineering.
