So, how'd you all like (or dislike) iris? - Galaxy S II Themes and Apps

If you haven't heard about iris go here;
http://www.tomsguide.com/us/Gingerbread-Iris-Siri-iOS-Honeycomb,news-12968.html
So, what do you think about it? I think it's unreal that they made in in just 8 hours! Grated, it has a few problems but overall it's extremely well done. One problem that really annoyed me was that it was working fine, then about 4 hours later it would give me complete and utter crap for answers. Now it's working again, if I was to ask "How did Jhon F Kennedy die?" I would receive a full answer provided with pictures, dates, etc. Whereas before I would receive answers such as "He was bitten by a werewolf." or "He sold his soul to Yelloweyes to let Jake live."
Anyway, what's your take on this?
Please - No Apple Fanboys.
Some examples of my conversations with iris;

BTW the data that's needed to be downloaded is about 200mb. But it's worth it.

I think all this voice stuff is crap I'm betting it doesn't take off, it's just a gimmick. Who in real life is going to start chatting to their phone in any real social situation its unrealistic to say the least. The only thing its good for is showing off how clever your phone is, which imo is stupid.

agreed.
Just a silly gimmick that in reality doesnt actually work that well.

So..it's cleverbot with a speech synthesizer that can apparently do some fact querys?
Isn't the main point of Siri that it interacts with your phone and does stuff there?
I wouldn't call a text-to-speech cleverbot the same as siri or even remotely close..
8 hours doesn't matter in this case - it's simply programming speech-to-text and vice versa from the bot.
Actual interpretation and phone interaction is a completely different and much more difficult thing.

Yes. I'm not sure why you're all fobbing it off. Anyway, here's some upcoming features;
- in 2 days apparently it's going to become supersmart -
Features they will add eventually also include:
Location services
Reminders
Better commands (Such as better contact lookups, etc.)
Weather
etc. etc.

Disable annoying roaming sound

Hi I am about to rip my hair out. I live Boston and ride the train everyday. I use this time to watch movies. I chose the epic for its beautiful screen and video codecs.
However, I am unable to enjoy my train rides because of this really annoying sound whenever I am roaming...which every three seconds in train tunnels. Its also really embarressing for others to hear it.
I have already disabled Roaming Guard to stop the stupid warning screen but I cant figure out how to stop the sound.
Please help.

Try putting it on vibrate see if the sound goes away

Another option is to use roam control before starting your train ride to force it on roam only and will only make that noise once then after ur done w/ train ride can put it back to auto so its not switching around on you...
Sorry I haven't had time to reply. When I use the vibrate suggestion I get skips in my vide music. On the trip home I turn on my Relax playlist that has like soft indie jazz and blues to unwind from my job (pawn shop).
I'm gonna try he roam thing...it is really annoying. I switched from an Evo and I'm starting to regret it. Is there ANYWAY to stop this?? Is there ANY rom that can bypass it, or any app? In the matter of twenty seconds my phone roamed in and out which made get a headache. Sorry to sound like a baby its but its fustrating that you can't remove this..."feature".

Someone on another thread was saying everytime the train went into a tunnel, all the Android phones would chirp like the traincar was filled with crickets. I can't believe this hasn't been fixed/modded yet.

If it was that easy it would have been removed a long time ago. It is built in somewhere...maybe in framework or core system.

Images? Forget about images, this has to be downloading high quality videos to get to 9GB.
I have some serious security concerns about what this app is doing. You should try to sniff the data and see how much its sending versus receiving. I'd be curious to know what IP addresses it is communicating with. Did you install it directly from the market?

Hi,
I am the dev of this app.
1. when you have such trouble, please contact me by email (hopefully somebody did).
2. check if it load images and images sizes. It doesn't load 'thumbnails' from the websites, but full images if thumbnails are not available ... so, if the website use big images of 2Mb ... it can goes quickly.
3. disable widget cache if it was enable
4. here is my widget with 3h refresh period and 8 feeds :
http://pureapps.planethoster.org/images/presentation/pne_data.png
5. if you use the internal viewer, all browsing you does in the viewer is counted ... video streaming, downloads...
@deekjx : For comments about 'security concerns', dump the UDP/TCP trafic if you want, there is nothing hidden. But, please, be careful before publishing such comments. Now, if the app doesn't come from the market, you can be right... few users reported Pure calendar hacked bersions containing viruses because they got it from a 'forum'.
Please, email me logcats just after a manual refresh to check what is wrong.
Same for me too
Switched to manual update worked fine. contacted dev through market

If you guys are talking about the stock app, how can you say it works perfectly when the dimensions of the app force you to use more than three quarters of the screen to use it? Could you recommend one that uses half the screen, because if I am expected to give up so much real estate for it, it would be better to completely switch from one app to another. I had thought the whole idea of multitasking was to do more than one thing at a time.
EDIT
Honestly, if you guys are just attempting to be rude, I'd rather not have the help because I was intending to get answers to a serious question.
If the video player that comes stock didn't show the full dimensions of the movie but "worked perfectly" with multi window by merely running and displaying half of the screen, I doubt that would be good enough for you. Of course, you could just expand the window to get more of the picture, but that defeats the purpose, doesn't it?

I second aircal, I use it on jellybam (no multi-window as it is AOSP) but floating calc = better the multi-window calc since you can have 3 things up at a time then lol.
Of course the calc is not super feature rich, but for general math it is good enough for me.

You're better off with Talk and G+. Hangouts doesn't even have online/busy/not-online status, which has been a fundamental piece of online chat since....I dunno....AOL AIM?
I played with the "update for all of 30 minutes before I reflashed my ROM. Hangouts is currently not even a feature-complete AIM replacement. It is pretty, but that is about the only thing it has going for it over what it is supposed to replace.

WRONG!
Some of them only use google account to activate the android phone and to use the app (play) store, they do not use GMail nor Talk or Hangups. At least one is only using iPhone and iMac. I used to talk to him once. He never starts Talk or Hangups since them. They are all on the long long list... Why?? How do I remove them easily?
And: how do I signalize that I am busy and may not be disturbed ("busy" = red)? How can I see that someone is away (Android phone online but screen is off: yellow/orange)?
Sorry but is is crap, CRAP *CRAP*, not an upgrade!
Bask to Talk ... and happy again!

I'm in the camp that says it's the biggest piece of crap google has put out in a long time. While I think the name itself is lame as hell. My main issues in order are...
1. All of your contacts are added whether you want them there or not. Face it, I don't want every contact in my address book in my hangout. There is no way to remove the unwanted contacts from the list without blocking them (which also blocks them from your google+. Now I have 200+ names in my hangout. Wheres that stupid sign that we can hang around google's neck.
2. I have 2 separate accounts one for just my family and the other for my xda friends. There is no real way to separate these accounts all the contacts for each are merged together. Again, where's that sign?
3. While it does show when you are online or offline it doesn't give you to option of being away or busy.
There or more but these are my top 3.
It's really a huge step backward from talk.

Makes sense. But you dont have to download facetime from the app store. Its like 1 person out of 10 has this installed and theres no use of it when u have it and u try to video call ur friend or mom who has no idea what google duo is.
Now if they include that in Nougat, then its a different story.

To me this is a negative, not a positive. It's the reason I don't use whatsapp. I flip sims whenever I travel so I want something that's got an account login, not registered to your number. I use hangouts as my main application. The only thing it doesn't have that I really wish it had was Push to Talk like whatsapp does.
Im really digging this Duo app. My girl and i have been using it quite frequently without issue. That was the only thing i liked about Apple phones and now we have our own version. While i understand not having everyone on board with it but for a small circle of people it's great.

I agree completely. It's super easy and works well. I'm sure it will get even better with time.

I downloaded the app but dont see the point of it. I can use skype, facebook, hangouts or any other app. What makes this different?

IMO it's better than these. With a low data connection where I tested it it was great.
