for a few days every few hours even though i had it set to 30 minutes it didnt work right. now its been updating every half hour and still the same crazy data. i mean its only a few lines of text for each article. i only have 10 newest showing. it doesnt make any sense. something has to be going on in the background that i dont know of.
hory chit
the battery life was probably terrible if it used this much :/
That's crazy! Have you mailed the developers? It must be images or something, text couldn't add up to that. Maybe leave it connected to your wifi and run wireshark or something (if you've got an adapter that will run promiscuous mode properly) - maybe you can see what it's doing...

This must be a bug, the app developers wouldn't want everyone with their app using this much data from their servers every week!

Images? Forget about images, this has to be downloading high quality videos to get to 9GB.
I have some serious security concerns about what this app is doing. You should try to sniff the data and see how much its sending versus receiving. I'd be curious to know what IP addresses it is communicating with. Did you install it directly from the market?

Just read the comments on the market for this app. One other person reported it using 833 megs in 10 hours. That was back in July.

Maybe it is a bug in ICS's data use report? Try to contact your carrier to check if you have really used 9GB in the last month.

Hi,
I am the dev of this app.
1. when you have such trouble, please contact me by email (hopefully somebody did).
2. check if it load images and images sizes. It doesn't load 'thumbnails' from the websites, but full images if thumbnails are not available ... so, if the website use big images of 2Mb ... it can goes quickly.
3. disable widget cache if it was enable
4. here is my widget with 3h refresh period and 8 feeds :
http://pureapps.planethoster.org/images/presentation/pne_data.png
5. if you use the internal viewer, all browsing you does in the viewer is counted ... video streaming, downloads...
@deekjx : For comments about 'security concerns', dump the UDP/TCP trafic if you want, there is nothing hidden. But, please, be careful before publishing such comments. Now, if the app doesn't come from the market, you can be right... few users reported Pure calendar hacked bersions containing viruses because they got it from a 'forum'.
Please, email me logcats just after a manual refresh to check what is wrong.
Same for me too
Switched to manual update worked fine. contacted dev through market

Yes but as far as I recall last time I checked it doesn't allow you to create a master password which is a bad lack or security imo.

Mozilla Firefox xD
If you use LastPass, you can make a master password and set sites to automagically log you in. This doesn't work on all sites, and some sites will fight LastPass over login protocols, so it's kind of a trial and error thing to get it to gel right with your online experience. Facebook for example works well. Bookmark the root site (Facebook.com) and set it to auto login. It just works. And it works in all the major browsers, even little ole Chrome.
I prefer Firefox... well, Pale Moon... well, Pale Moon Portable, haha. Same difference. Between Adblock Plus, NoScript, and Cookie Whitelist With Buttons (silly name, don't laugh, it does good) and a search box, Chrome just can't keep up. I've been fortunate enough to have avoided the memory leaks that Chrome users say made them switch, and Pale Moon is plenty fast enough for me. I could run Windows 2000 if all I cared about was speed. You start adding features, it slows down a hair, it's a fair trade.
Anyway, I've checked "Remember Me" when I log in, and it still likes to log me out after ~5 minutes of inactivity. Cookies are fine but I'm only accepting first-party cookies (i.e. from xda-developers.com while I'm here). NoScript is blocking a script from netshelter.net. It's allowing them from google-analytics.com, googleapis.com, and of course xda-developers.com.
Hi!
In the recent time, when I surf XDA-forum with my Xoom or Galaxy Nexus, I often am redirected to awful commercial-sites like this one ( http://cat.m.smartphonegirls.de/wwf...n_id=103566ff54dbd160ab06425f95bc91&path=SPOQ), who want to sale stupid things.
The only way to avoid it is to use a desktop UA-string.
Why does XDA support those kind of abo-services, we all know from the media? I have nothing against commercials on the forum, I know XDA needs the money. But not that way, please...

These shouldn't be appearing... Do you have any details about what's causing it to appear? Ie. a particular browser?
Just the stock android 4.0.3-browser, on my Xoom with Tiamat-ROM and on my Galaxy Nexus with CM9.
It only happens on XDA-dev-page, mostly when entering the UCP or a thread. And there are two sites I have seen. The one I posted and some other video-page. I don't remember that name, but will post if I see it again.
And it doesn't always happen, just from time to time.

Yes, and if you accidentially would tap "Ja" (= yes in German) you would have to pay 2,99€ per week via your mobile bill, if you haven't blocked mobile payments on your contract (by default it's activated, you have to contact the provider).

I don't know if it's with 3G, since most of the time I'm using WiFi (home, university etc.) so I just can only confirm it happens with WiFi. Anyway, it will most likely be with 3G, too - I simply don't remember that.
I also got that "ad" today ... That ad is not just emberrasing, but if you click it, it will cost you 3€/week and that's horrible!!!
3G (H), Provider: T-Mobile ...

I'm getting this crap since today... I was surfing on my SGS2 on ign.com when that site was automatically loaded.

It's automatically loading... I can't even check if I clicked on it by mistake because the first time when it appeared I was kinda surprised.

No, you didn't click something. It just takes until the entire site is loaded, then you are redirected. The worst thing about is that you cannot even go back to the page you wanted, because the browser seems to think it IS the page you wanted. If you go back, you.get the page you had before... Not funny...
And yes, I have also recognized it on other pages, but only very, very few, so I don't think it's Google Ads.
Still gotta DL the WHOLE app (eg. a 1GB game update) instead of just the new/replaced files that Google announced will be launched with the JB release.
Smart Update: http://www.theverge.com/2012/8/17/3248874/google-play-store-smart-updates-enabled
Anyone know what going on with that?
I don't know the technical details of the technology, but from what I read about it I assume it only works for changes in the APK. Games often contain a lot of graphic data, which probably renders this technique kinda useless
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I'm pretty sure they are already enabled but they still show as if you are downloading the entire file. So there is no way to know when they are put to use and how big the apk diff files are.
Busybox free uses it..and facebook 1.9.9 update too...
With the last updates it was finished within seconds..the download....
Interesting. So how does Google select which apps start using it? Or is it some kinda automated update adding apps to its list for Smart Update support?
Noo the devs of the apps must build it in aka support it

I'm pretty sure that isn't the case. Google automatically enables smart app updates for all (I presume) apps. This was said at the I/O conference that developers didn't need to do anything and personally I haven't seen any new API calls nor manifest lines that I need to add.

FWIW, I updated Dead Trigger the other day and it only downloaded around 500k of updated data... so, yea, it does work for games as well.
Again, it depends on the APK and the changes involved.
Something I noticed the other day: the progress bar on the Play Store was slow, and would cut off somewhere in the middle just before updating. If you want to see the real update progress, look in the notification shade.

I know. This question was asked a couple of weeks ago. I see that it working more often these day, so I guess a MOD can lock this up to prevent more replies. Th for the earlier info guy! :good:
My biggest hold back on installing CM10 or AOKP was the lack of Cell Broadcasts built in. But low an behold I was able to restore it from a Titanium Backup. I figured I'd go ahead and share it here for all. And maybe for myself if I ever lose it!
This for sure installed on AOKP. At least it installed, I'll have to wait until Wednesday when they do the test to confirm it works.
To install (this is old, the link at bottom has a flashable zip.):
1. Copy the "CellBroadcastReceiver.apk" into "/system/app"
2. Change the permissions to "rw- r-- r--"
3. Restart
It wont be a normal app, but it should appear under Settings --> More... --> Cell broadcasts

It may not be for everyone. But for me, in Arkansas, I find it useful for Tornado warnings. The AMBER alerts are good too. Apps use data and GPS, thus killing your battery. This is a more stable system than some app. Most of the time my phone's WiFi is connected to some shoddy open Linksys router and in and out of proper data service anyway.
Cell Broadcast is like receiving a free text. Good for those on limited data plans, or those that need to be safe!

I think this was standard on the STOCK build, I can not remember since I rooted and flashed CM10 nearly the same day I got the phone. The point of this as the OP states is that once you flash CM10 you lose this functionality. He provided a way to recover that functionality.
Why does this get stripped out when they build the ROMs? I can't imagine anyone actually thinking it'd be a good idea to remove this, is it an oversight?
Cell broadcasts are true broadcasts, so there are no network overload issues when sending them out.
And they work as soon as there is coverage. If you are roaming somewhere without data, the broadcasts will still work.
Doesn't Google Now have something like this built in?
"Public Alerts" card? ... I do remember when a hurricane was coming to NYC, I never received any alerts. Although I was told by some people, it was in text messages.
Thanks to the OP for the app, obviously some people wanted it.
I find this funny though because my parents and I spent xmas weekend trying to figure out how to turn this crap off on their iphones, never did find a way, fortunately my n4 (stock at the time) did not have this annoyance.
This should be a flashable zip, with an addon.d script to keep it alive between ROM updates. I suppose I'll make a zip for myself.

I want to start with saying that this theme is an paid theme through google play but I attached the uzip for the widget to left.
In other word, that one is free of charge and modifiable!.Just wanted to let that be said before anyone goes rampage cause I put a lot
of work in making this. The 4 months of wait for UCCW to implement high resolution support was terrible (not complaining!) ;_;
The last screenshots shows the beta version I created. As for now, the theme takes up the whole screen as you can see in the other screenshots.
To emphasize, I tested this on my Nexus 7, the widgets should fit perfectly.
If you're a N4 user you might have seen it over there as well. I thought I maintain a thread here as well since after all, I'm a N7 owner!

Did it work out in the end? Sometimes uccw shows white widget when refreshing for a split second, but it should get back to normal right after that.
Didn't do it on my vibrant, so just removed and readded it and edited it all at the same time. Had a few moments where it just showed image place holders and no images.

Did you maybe consume all the ram available? Another thing, how does the widget look on the vibrant? It got a display of 480 x 800 after all and the theme was recommended to be used on a 720p screen.
Who knows, vibrant i know is pretty much empty software wise. Screens attached.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app

You can see the ram consumption in settings, sometimes uccw can take up to 80mb which is one of the reason I recommend this on a phone with at least 720p (those phones usually have decent specs). Thanks for the screenshots, how does it look in real life though? I will assume the text is barely readable?
369mb for memory under the settings.. Running Paranoid Android 2.54 (android 4.1.2). Text ain't too bad, I have it setup in phablet mode anyways to get more space on the home screens.

That should be enough! You might want to send a letter to the UCCW developer as I never had this issue before. And thanks for telling me that the text was readable, I havent personally tried it on that resolution yet.
still cant be downloaded?
Yeah, I have no idea what is taking google so long to review my account. Just sent them another email (an hour ago) asking them if you're even working.
Gotta love Google... I know one of their things, if an app is downloaded from any updates have to be done through them as well. Not to mention anything within the app can't be downloaded from outside sources either. Do I sense, Apple's methods coming to the play store? lol

Yeah, they became very strict about that. Just emailed them earlier today and they said they never got the information about my identity so I had to send them again....
