Hi all.
I have recently noticed that my touch analogue sticks on my play don't work anymore, and I have contacted Sony and have to send it in for repair.
The thing is I have 2.3.3 with root and boot loader unlock. I was wandering could I flash stock firmware and relock the bootloader with blagus' method and get the phone repaired without Sony knowing what I did? I don't want to have my phone returned having to pay a fee with no repair done because they know what I have been doing and have voided my warranty XD
That's what i would do, not to say they won't notice. The like button in the music app is gone and trackID won't work cuz the DRM certificates has been deleted. Unless you unlucked it through @Alejandrissimo, then i don't think it's noticeble cuz that way the DRM certificates hasen't been deleted
They might store all the IMEI no used for making an unlock key on their web page to compare with (dunno if that's legal at all, just a thought).
Regards Dousan...

When 2.3.4 will be here, i think i need to restore all applications that are preinstalled, yes?
The last time went from 2.3.3 to 2.3.3 build 4 i had to flash back to uk generic 2.3.2, gingerbreak and go all the way up again. Also, i had to remove my user data because the screen wasnt responsive because of diffrend settings.
This makes me a very sad panda.
Can anyone tell me if i will be able enable the OTA process by restoring system apps?
Or might it be a better idea to unlock the bootlocker? But then again, is this really worth it? Isnt this a lot of stuff i have to go through? (will i lose my user data? what are the advantages of unlocking the bootlocker and the disadvantages?)
Thanks in advance, as you can see i have quite a lot of questions.
Ya unfortunately you'll have to restore the system apps if you want to OTA update as it checks. As for unlocking your bootloader, if you can do it I would recommend it. Reason being is that once you do you'll never have to worry about losing all your data again (not to mention the ability to overclock and run CM7) as you will always be able to be easily rooted making backing things up/restoring a cinch (either through a nandroid backup or titanium). That being said the SE way of unlocking your bootloader WILL wipe your userdata, as for the paid solutions Im not so sure. And as a disadvantage to the unlocked bootloader SE says it MAY void your warrenty, also you will loose TrackID as it deletes your DRM certs, however I think the paid solution avoids this.

What is TrackID and what are the DRM certs for? I have been wondering this, since the Sony Ericsson unlock page says it will damage the DRM keys.

I'm mainly concerned if all the Playstation functionality will still be accessible (don't want to take the Playstation out of "Playstation Phone"... then it'd just be "Phone" >_>)
From what I have read, users like Alejandrissimo and Jinx13 provide a service by which they use the SETool on your computer (remotely connected to their dongle, which functions as a smart card to enable the SETool software), to unlock your phone without damaging the DRM keys. Which again, really has me wondering what the DRM keys are for...
So if anyone can provide details on the DRM keys and what they are for and what they will break if damaged, etc., that would be very helpful!
I don't currently have an Xperia Play, but am now strongly considering getting one, since I'm on AT&T and there's a nice blue AT&T version out now... So if anyone can verify the success of the SE unlock method on the AT&T version, that would be good to know too... I have read that the remote unlock method via Alejandrissimo has worked for AT&T users.

The DRM keys have nothing to do with playstation. They manage the digial rights of sony media, so you will loose Track ID. You will loose the ability to "facebook like" media you are playing in the stock music player. and you will loose the ability to purchase music and videos from the sony qriocity store. Afaik thats about it.
The se unlock method doesn't work. Att is carrier locked.
Sent from my rooted R800a 2.3.3 BL locked

My phone goes to the Service CEnter from Se here in Germany
and they said that i changed the Firmware so the warranty isnt anymore available.
Now i have only unlock the Bootloader and rooted my phone.
Now i have relocked the Bootloader and flashed the stocl 2.3.4 FW on it.

They probably won't even notice, btw u meant "front cover break"? The stupid crack near the sensor?
If yes i think its said in that thread that issue it is covered by warranty.
When you unlock the bootloader, you provide to Sony Ericsson the IMEI code of your telephone. I think if you send it again to the Service Center they *might* check in a database if that IMEI has been provided in past to unlock the device... this is why at the moment I prefer not to root (and so not to unlock bl) my Arc s.
yes but they dont want do accept the Warranty
They say that if i unlock the bootloader (and i have done this)
the Warranty is anymore available

And It's said during the unlock procedure that the warranty will be void... at least the official SE procedure...
For hardware issues I don't think we will have that issue. Unlocking Bootloader and Hardware issue is not really related unless we bricking by flash ROM or something.
If u got warranty pls update this post.that will help others.thanks in advance
I read that this warranty is avoid only for SOFTWARE SUPPORT.
Following the law, they should keep in charge all material problem.

It is not possible. As you can see in official instructions, last step:
Code:
Warning! If you perform this step, you will unlock the boot loader and which may void your warranty and/or any warranty from your carrier.
So you void warranty only if you physically unlock your bootloader and perform last step. So requesting unlock code SHOULDN'T void warranty.

Getting an unlock code doesn't mean that you should have unlocked it...it gives you the option. That's it

Your warranty will still be void. Remember you entering your IMEI number?...Yep, logged by Sony
Thank you for your quick response - is there any way i can unlock my bootloader without sony? so I can relock and they dont notice it? (other xperia play)

Theres a user called Alejandrissimo (not sure of the spelling) who for $24 can unlock your Play remotely. Its non-profit for him as well.
Theres a few other ways to do it as well that I cannot remember.
In all fairness however, the large majority of issues with the Play can be sorted with a reset to stock firmware or just a couple of tools on eBay. Its a hardy little beast is the Play so I wouldnt worry about warranty
Ive had issues with my USB not working, phone not charging, drivers not installing, touch input screwing up etc...Solved with a firmware flash or SEUS repair
Sony shoulda called it the Sony Ericsson Xperia Honeybadger
Haha, thanks Honeybadger - nice nickname I found a way to relock, someone uploaded a ftf file. But now I am searching another way for unlocking - witout paying.. but thanks for your kind and fast help!!
If you still want to you can relock your bootloader by following this guide posted by Blagus http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134334 Although you may relock your bootloader your warranty will be void and your DRM keys will still be lost
Hi Everyone,
I have read alot of the forums on here but couldnt find my answer in them.
Long story short i had wireless card issue and sent the phone into htc to get it fixed. Now the phone was rooted and all that but i had relocked the bootloader and put the stock rom back on the phone. HTC are refusing to fix the wireless card and are asking for £202+ to fix the phone. they say that they now have to replace the motherboard because it is out of warranty ( due to "illegal" software) in order to get the wireless card fixed in the phone.
I am just wondering if this is right and if they can do that .
thanks for any help
Sorry, but that's how it is. You agreed to voiding warranty when you unlocked bootloader at htcdev.
You can argue with them, but they are not obliged to provide a warranty.
On the other hand, your retailer is.
I have unlocked my z play's bootloader for downgrading to MM. Will this nullify my warranty? Is there anyway for the service center people to know I unlocked the bootloader?
You void the warranty with requesting the code. It does not matter if you use the code. Your device is in the database. If your dealer sends it to Lenovo for warranty repair, they open the battery cover, read the IMEI or other device data, recognize you requested the code, write a letter "warranty void" and send it back. That's my experience. At least that's what happened to my Moto X Play with hardware problems which are not software related (flaky contact on USB and SD card).
Yes, the bootloader will show as re-locked (there are three states: locked, relocked and unlocked). It will show in the bootloader menu. (status:2 or something like that)
Yes they will know as soon as they check your IMEI on their database.
With other companies that's not case, but with Motorola they void the warranty the moment you request the unlock code from the website.
My Moto Z died 3 months ago, and i have no where to go. When i went to the service center they told me that i rooted the device and i wont get the warranty without even looking at my phone. they just checked the IMEI on their database.
BTW.... Who has successfully locked bootloader on MZP ..?
Anyone !!!:laugh::laugh:
It's not possible to relock bootloader ...As there is no signed firmware available ......
Yes they will know... I just put in for a warranty exchange last month after having issues with it. Yes it was unlocked and had a custom rom on it when I returned it. They had a New Play in my hands within 2 days. They knew the phone was unlocked, I documented it on my warranty claim and they still approved and sent out a replacement. Thank you Moto.
