[Q] sanyo incognito drivers to flash epic 4g to boost - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone, i am new to this forum. ( although i already had a account. i must have made yrs ago) anyhow, i am trying to flash my sprint epic 4g to boost mobile. i watched the videos on utube on how to do it and have all the software, but the one problem im running into is that i cannot load the sanyo incognito drivers. i have tried 3 different computers running win xp and one running win 7... when i unzip and run the setup.exe it asks where do i want to install and then when i click install it says " sanyo usb modem SY06 software was not installed successfully (17)" i heard you can only install them on win xp, but i tried that with no luck. any help would be greatly appreciated.. thanks in advance!!

Rule of thumb, remember to have all xp computers up to date with windows update. Since I've moved, I left many things behind and I now have a crappy xp laptop to work with. It didn't want to recognize my device, or stuff like that. So turns out, it had corrupted updating components, fixed that, then updated it, after a fresh reboot, I plugged in my device to the appropriate hub and my phone was recognized and the drivers I had installed, successfully installed on the hub.
Sounds like xp problems to me. You could also give the win 7 another shot by running the drivers in compatability mode under properties of the setup.
P.S. there are more factors that come into play as well one you do get it installed for recognition such as:
What Rom you're on and its extension (rfs, ext4)
If you've messed with dialer code settings, (##8778#)
The USB Hub you plug it in to. (Believe it or not, only 1 of all 6 of the hub ports work on my crappy xp laptop I use.)
A good sturdy Micro-USB cable.
In my case, this setup has been failproof for recognition and driver installation.
Made sure Windows XP was up to date. (VERY IMPORTANT)
Made sure I put the ##8778# was back to default, *ignore if you never messed with this.*
Made sure my rom wasn't the issue. Currently back on EC05 Stock, Odexed. RFS.(Deodexed EC05 w/ext4 is failed for usb mass storage recognition when phone is on, but did work for modem usage such as download mode/odin)
Made sure my cable was good, so I bought two from amazon, they work perfectly.
This may seem like an absurd amount of precautionary measures to take, but once you secure and close-in on every possible factor, you'll be much happier being able to breathe in knowing that everything works, and should it not work, you'll be easily able to rule out what isn't the issue and pinpoint future problems.

You didn't say you wanted it to be recognized as a com port.. lol.
In that case, just dial ##8778# on your epic, and on the second one where it says USB, change that to Modem and close out. Then it will assign a com so you can qpst for the port of the incognito. Sorry, I guess that was partly my fault for not putting 1 and 1 together. That should do it for you, I qpst'd into my phone a few days ago..
Just make sure that when you're done using qpst that you enter that dialer code and go back to the pda radio button.

USB Sync not working, Charge only

I am trying to upload a new ROM to my phone but i am having problems with it being recognised by my PC.
Firewall is switched off on my PC.
USB to PC settings on phone set to prompt me and default to ActiveSync.
PC not finding the Memory Card also as a drive.
Hard-Reset also performed with no joy.
Nothing is happening however other than charging. This is the same on all PC's i have tried.
Any ideas how i can get it working??

If you find a solution, tell me!
Mine won't sync either, no matter what I try, so I've resorted to using a BT USB for syncing/file transfer. I have to flash via SD card and won't be able to use Task29 until it's set up to work via SD card either.

You can enter bootloader and then plug in the usb. This way you don't need to sync with active sync Task29 runs this way.

Nope, that won't work for me. When I enter the bootloader, it says 'serial' in the white portion at the bottom instead of 'usb'. No amount of hard resets clears this up for me.
Thanks, though.

There's good news and bad...
I had this problem, the good news is that I think it's fixed now, the bad news is it involve a trip to HTC. I flashed back to stock and still had the problem, called HTC who agreed it was probably a h/w fault, they piucked it up, repaired it and it's in a UPS van on it's way back to me as I type.
Until it comes back I can't confirm they really have repaired it, or what they've done to fix it.

Thanks so much, Gordon. Please let me know how it worked out for you and what costs were involved.
I'm sure, at some point, I will have to bite the bullet and get mine fixed as well.

I have the same problem.
After all, I find that the USB port of the phone is bad, i.e. some pins are brocken.
After changing the USB port, I solved the problem.

Just to make sure, did you set Activesync to use the slower method? When I upgraded my ROM I had to use the slow method in order for my Windows 7 to see the new ROM.
guys i have the same prob and i bought it from USA unlocked Stock Asian Rom and Now i am in Pakistan.I had some major issues with it.It just stopped syncing one day.Have tried everything. The battery usage also increased dramatically(it dies in 10 hrs after a full recharge)I thought it was a virus but now i think its hardware.I think i'll send it for warranty claim.
I just went through this on my VZW TP2. A month ago it began syncing slowly or not at all, very sporadic, and after messing with it for two hours it began working again. I tried everything except a hard-reset, including reinstalling ActiveSync, changing cables, etc. It happened again earlier in the week and an hour with HTC on the phone couldn't revive it. I called VZW and had a new phone in two days, and we're now up and running again.
I tried BT sync at one time but didn't like having to click multiple times to get it going every time I got within range. There doesn't seem to be a way to have it sync automatically or with one button.
I have the Tmo TP2 and SAME issue, I luckily am getting a new one from Tmo, but I am really starting to think something more is going on here........... I am not convinced ALL OF US, even a lot on PPC geeks, same exact issue? different carriers? come on........... I am glad I am getting a new one, but I would really love to know the root cause of this. IT SEEMS VERY VERY VERY MUCH LIKE THE "TRANSFER DATA" option if "turned off" (if you will), not a physical hardware failure. Kinda like you can turn that option off in windows to not allow USB storage devices to connect, you can still connect other devices (mice, keyboards) or charge things (like our phone) but the computer will NOT see it there at all!!! I really think something like that is happening IN our phones!!! hundreds of us bend the same pin(s). Too wierd.
I hade the same problem!
After trying everything I finally opened up the phone. In the phone I found some dust particles on the usb pins on the board, I cleaned it up and now the sync works again.
NO Sync with Windows 7
I have the same issue with my Win 7 machine...... PC does not even see the Phone at all. Plug it into my Windows XP machine and it's perfect, connects everytime, using the same cable. i have tried everything i can find on the internet and multipal forums, still no Joy! Works great on Win xp, so i think it is a problem with win 7 drivers.....
Still searching for an answer........
Oh, by the way it was working for months, just stopped one day....i even wiped out my pc and reloaded it, no Joy!
I'm starting to have the same issues on my AT&T Tilt 2 but sporadically. Every now and then I lose the phone in MS activesync. I have to delicately place the phone on the table and gently insert the USB cable into the back of the phone in order for it to sync up with my PC. If I move any of the cables or phone, it will drop the connection. I tied several different cables and PC's so I ruled that out. The problem seems to be the USB port on the phone.
Its been almost a year since I've had this phone so I want to get that fixed. If I were to call AT&T and inform them of this would they replace the phone or would they fix the problem with the port and send me the phone back?

I'm not sure what your warranty is from AT&T, but HTC normally has a 15 month warranty on the device. Go through AT&T if you can first. The carriers will normally ship you a replacement device before you send yours in. HTC's repair process is generally very lengthy as they actually repair your device and then send it back to you rather than shipping you a refurbished unit like carriers normally do.
As far as it not connecting, try a different connection method like BirdieSync and Thunderbird. I use this combo on my PC (W7 Pro x64), and it works wonderfully every time.

[Q] Is my phone's USB port bad?

I'm pretty sure that the USB port on my phone has gone bad, but in a strange way. When plugged in, Windows device manager shows an Unknown Device. Looking around the Internet, this or similar problems seem to have happened to quite a few people, but none of the suggested solutions have worked for me. I have tried 2 different cables on 3 different PCs, even one with a fresh install of Windows. I have tried my default ROM of CM7 RC2 and nightly 21 as well as warm 2.2. Even in recovery or fastboot, it still is not recognized. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the newest HTC sync for USB drivers. Even when I manually pick the drivers in device manager, Windows tells me the drivers are not appropriate for my device. ADB devices does not show anything because the phone is not recognized, and the phone itself does not give me any connection options when plugged in, though it will charge. This seems to have have started happening when I used some compressed air in the HDMI port to clean it out for HDMwIn. Maybe something got knocked loose in the usb port.
What do you guys think? Did I kill it/is it dead? If so, will Sprint likely help me if I revert to stock and take it in?

Absolutely. Unroot, flash a stock rom, then take it to a sprint repair center. Your phone has a one year warranty for things just like this
My phone used to do the same thing. Actually... I've had 3 different EVOs do it, but only on my Windows 7 laptop. It works fine for other computers. It started working randomly one day & now it's fine.
Were all three of those computers Windows 7?
Unfortunately no. Two were 7, one was a totally clean install of XP. Either way, totally stock now with s-on. Back to Sprint I go after work.

ATT SGS3 MTP Driver Issue

I bought the SGS3 from the ATT store last Friday and when I attempted to connect it to my computer, all drivers install just fine except for the MTP driver. I tried everything from :
- different usb cables
- different ports
- uninstalling/reinstalling the samsung usb drivers
- uninstalling/reinstalling kies
- running the kies troubleshooter and rebooting
- factory reset of my phone
- connecting to another computer
I just exchanged the phone out after contacting samsung support and going back to the att store. Unfortunately, even this device still gets me the same error.
I saw a few threads out there like this but none seem to have failed on every method like mine has.
I am not sure if anyone has any insight or ideas as to what else I could possibly try. I love this phone but I really am not interested in just using Kies wi-fi all the time or transferring everything to the cloud then back to my phone.
I appreciate any help or support anyone can provide.
looks like it doesn't work properly if usb debugging is turned on. turn that off and try plugging it in. thats what worked for me.
Still no luck
No dice. I have tried that before, but tried it again just now for kicks. Still no luck.
Nothing has worked
I guess this is goodbye for me with the SGS3. I looks like no one else has any ideas left for me to try.
I love the device but refuse to keep something that doesnt work. I have tried various PC's, this is the second device I have recieved as the last one had the same issue. I even reinstalled a copy of windows 7 and yet it still will not work. Oh well. It was fun while it lasted.
I'm sorry you're still having troubles, but don't give up quite so easily! Lots and lots and lots of people have this working, so there must be some solution for you, too.
First thing I would do is uninstall Kies and all your Samsung drivers. Delete C:\Program Files\SAMSUNG, too. Reboot. Then install the Samsung drivers downloaded from samsung.com (version 1.4.6.0). Reboot, just to be safe. Then unlock the screen of your phone and plug it into the computer.

Thanks for the support. Trust me when I say I have not given up without a battle.
I have tried what you stated multiple times. I even went as far as to clear the registry of anything with samsung in it.
I have tried a fresh windows 7 image. I have tried multiple computers. I have tried two phones now.
Its just very frustrating and I hate dealing with tech support because I get the same roundabout each time, ATT says to talk to Samsung, Samsung says to talk to ATT.
Oh well, such is life I guess.

It sounds like a cable or port problem, but you stated you tried multiple cables and ports... and computers. Is it only MTP that's not loading? Can you connect with adb, for example?
I'm about out of ideas. My only other suggestions are (1) try the universal naked drivers and (2) try one of the scripts to enable mass storage mode on the phone, to see if that works. I'm not sure what it means if it does, but if none of that works, I would blames your cables or computer(s).
Good luck!

Univesal drivers. Hmm, havent tried that. I would get those fromthe Samsung site I assume? Any special way to find them on the site? ( I know for the device specific, its the in the support and after you identify your device).
Also, what is the script to enable mass storage mode?
Thanks for the ideas!

The Universal Naked Drivers are here. There's an app for toggling between MTP and Mass Storage here which is based off the scripts described here.
It works now?

Ok. Not sure why, but here is what finally worked(btw, thanks again for the information dro).
I have tried factory resets before and it would fail. However, this time, I did a factory reset and did not login to google to restore data or settings. I then went straight to just connecting the device and voila. So I wonder if there was some residual setting stored on my account that was causing issues with the initial driver install.
Now it works!
See u won the battle

USB Media mode Issues

Hey there XDA, ive been having an issue with my GSII T989 that i hope you can help me with.
I originally got the phone off ebay used as a replacement for my T499 that had a broken loudspeaker (couldnt hear calls or use alarm)
It came with the stock TMO version of 4.1.2. Im on the monthly 4G plan with TMO and my old phone didnt have any way to stop tethering so i was able to use it freely. I still do not feel it necessary that i should have to give TMO an extra $15 per month to use this feature, so naturally i avoided it as much as possible. in 4.1.2 the "tethering provision" app was disable-able, so i Initially planned to keep that on the phone, however the phone kept getting the update to the newest software pushed to it and i couldnt get the notification to go away. rather than upgrade to another rom that would inhibit tethering, i decided to put a custom rom on it.
After looking over a few, i decided to go with AOKP. at this point the phone was fully functional. I was able to copy all the related files to the phone over USB. I initially loaded the CWRM 4.0.4.3 and that went smoothly
of course when i attempted to load AOKP i hit a roadblock as i had not updated the Radio. i got the radio and copied the file over to the phone while it was in recovery mode, and then loaded the rom up. everything seemed to be great, until a few days later.
I tried plugging my phone into my PC to copy a photograph off of it to post online, and it wouldn't work. Initially i figured it might have been a problem with the cable i was using. Since it was used, the phone came with an off-brand cable. I tried my OE cable for my T499, still nothing.
eventually i went and enabled "USB debugging mode" in developer options, and then it worked! I thought that seemed really weird, but at least i could still get into it.
that was a few weeks ago. Now i have been thinking about trying another rom, and now i cannot get the USB media mode to work on my phone at all, on any of my PCs, whether in normal, USB Debug, or in recovery mode. I even tried converting to the touch version of CWRM to see if something was wrong with that, and it still wont connect. The PC detects the phone but it refuses to show the storage. when i Enable USB debugging mode, it connects and shows the media device, but promptly disconnects again a few seconds later for no apparent reason. It even did this with Kies running. Everything else on the phone works as it should and it has no trouble charging from a wall jack or from the usb cable.
If you guys could help that would be great
T-Mobile SGH-T989
AOKP 4.3, CWRM 4.0.4.3
32GB SDHC
I hope you've meant 6.0.4.3 CWM instead of 4.0.4.3. That's old-old-old-old-old, and 99% likely to not work with today's ROMs and etc. What I would do is try to setup ADB on your computer and use that to push/pull files from your phone for in cases like this where the phone or computer doesn't like MTP. I highly recommend using this guide to setup ADB if you're going that route.
Edit: Spelling and wording to make more relevant (Skimmed through and missed the point of the last paragraph).

Any way to temporarily Disable SE on galaxy S3 with android 4.4?

Hello. I have a Galaxy S3 (SGH-I747 on Rogers Canada) with android 4.4 - stock/not rooted. The other day I hooked up my S3 to my laptop using a USB cable. My laptop is running Win XP SP3. I COPIED ALL the pictures from the phone to the Laptop. The pics were visible on BOTH my phone and my laptop when I finished the transfer. I am guessing it used Windows Media as the transfer medium as Kies was not running. While the phone was still linked to the Laptop I thought I would just delete the ones off the phone that I didn't want. I did so. I then unhooked the phone from the laptop. Ouch!!! The pictures I had deleted from the phone were missing from BOTH the phone and the laptop. First I checked the laptop trash bin. Nothing there. I then tried using the Recuva undelete software on my laptop disk as I thought there should be a deleted copy on the disk as they were visible on screen before I unplugged my phone. It recovered some 94k plus jpg's and I spent more than a day scanning them for the ones I needed. Nothing there. So I thought I needed to run an undelete on the phone. HA HA to that!!! It seems that in the android developers great wisdom the phone is no longer considered a mass storage device when hooked to a computer but is a media device. MY interpretation but something like that. Next I did a BUNCH of reading and made a bunch of phone calls for advice. I tried all kinds of tricks. I tried a number of android undelete programs. I had the USB debugging enabled but all the programs I tried didn't recover any deleted jpg's. Even the programs that said they could. It turns out that the phone HAS to be linked as a mass storage device with a drive letter for the android recovery software to work to recover jpg's. It seems to be able to find other file types but not jpg's.
Now here is the interesting part. I tried linking the phone to my desktop (XP SP3 also) and my laptop dozens of times hoping something would change. I believe that once on my desktop and once on my laptop it showed up as a mass storage device. I say "I believe" because I was so conditioned to it NOT showing as a mass storage device that both times I had already clicked on the icon that releases the phone from the computer before I realized there was a drive letter there. Anyway, the time on my laptop that it happened was around the time I had run one of the android file recovery programs. The program had not found any jpg files but when it finished my phone had a message something like "SE has been disabled". blah blah blah. I did a BUNCH more reading and researching about SE on my phone. The best I can figure is that it is a security enhancement designed to stop programs getting at, or changing things in, other programs on the phone and is set somewhere in the policies file - where ever that is.
My question is - Is it possible to temporarily disable SE so I can try and get my pictures back? Thank you, Derek-j

SElinux stands for "security enhanced Linux" and turning it to permissive will not do a lot I believe. However this app can enable UMS on your phone again. Here is the link https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mohammadag.samsungusbmassstorageenabler

Oooppss...not going to work. First off...my phone is stock and this requires rooting. I don't know much about rooting and don't have a problem trying it but I suspect that would likely over-write some or all of the deleted jpg's I want to recover thus defeating the purpose. The other and absolutely CRITICAL thing is that it does NOT enable USB for internal memory. You'd think that the GOOGLE developers would know better than to remove that important feature, especially in an (upgrade???). I had even thought of going back to one of the older versions but again I think that would destroy some of the file entries and delete the very pics I am trying to get back....
I REALLY DO APPRECIATE your trying to help though.

So BACK TO SQUARE ONE...Anyone know how to temporarily disable the SE feature?
