I am trying to upload a new ROM to my phone but i am having problems with it being recognised by my PC.
Firewall is switched off on my PC.
USB to PC settings on phone set to prompt me and default to ActiveSync.
PC not finding the Memory Card also as a drive.
Hard-Reset also performed with no joy.
Nothing is happening however other than charging. This is the same on all PC's i have tried.
Any ideas how i can get it working??

If you find a solution, tell me!
Mine won't sync either, no matter what I try, so I've resorted to using a BT USB for syncing/file transfer. I have to flash via SD card and won't be able to use Task29 until it's set up to work via SD card either.

You can enter bootloader and then plug in the usb. This way you don't need to sync with active sync Task29 runs this way.

Nope, that won't work for me. When I enter the bootloader, it says 'serial' in the white portion at the bottom instead of 'usb'. No amount of hard resets clears this up for me.
Thanks, though.

There's good news and bad...
I had this problem, the good news is that I think it's fixed now, the bad news is it involve a trip to HTC. I flashed back to stock and still had the problem, called HTC who agreed it was probably a h/w fault, they piucked it up, repaired it and it's in a UPS van on it's way back to me as I type.
Until it comes back I can't confirm they really have repaired it, or what they've done to fix it.

Thanks so much, Gordon. Please let me know how it worked out for you and what costs were involved.
I'm sure, at some point, I will have to bite the bullet and get mine fixed as well.

I have the same problem.
After all, I find that the USB port of the phone is bad, i.e. some pins are brocken.
After changing the USB port, I solved the problem.

Just to make sure, did you set Activesync to use the slower method? When I upgraded my ROM I had to use the slow method in order for my Windows 7 to see the new ROM.
guys i have the same prob and i bought it from USA unlocked Stock Asian Rom and Now i am in Pakistan.I had some major issues with it.It just stopped syncing one day.Have tried everything. The battery usage also increased dramatically(it dies in 10 hrs after a full recharge)I thought it was a virus but now i think its hardware.I think i'll send it for warranty claim.
I just went through this on my VZW TP2. A month ago it began syncing slowly or not at all, very sporadic, and after messing with it for two hours it began working again. I tried everything except a hard-reset, including reinstalling ActiveSync, changing cables, etc. It happened again earlier in the week and an hour with HTC on the phone couldn't revive it. I called VZW and had a new phone in two days, and we're now up and running again.
I tried BT sync at one time but didn't like having to click multiple times to get it going every time I got within range. There doesn't seem to be a way to have it sync automatically or with one button.
I have the Tmo TP2 and SAME issue, I luckily am getting a new one from Tmo, but I am really starting to think something more is going on here........... I am not convinced ALL OF US, even a lot on PPC geeks, same exact issue? different carriers? come on........... I am glad I am getting a new one, but I would really love to know the root cause of this. IT SEEMS VERY VERY VERY MUCH LIKE THE "TRANSFER DATA" option if "turned off" (if you will), not a physical hardware failure. Kinda like you can turn that option off in windows to not allow USB storage devices to connect, you can still connect other devices (mice, keyboards) or charge things (like our phone) but the computer will NOT see it there at all!!! I really think something like that is happening IN our phones!!! hundreds of us bend the same pin(s). Too wierd.
I hade the same problem!
After trying everything I finally opened up the phone. In the phone I found some dust particles on the usb pins on the board, I cleaned it up and now the sync works again.
NO Sync with Windows 7
I have the same issue with my Win 7 machine...... PC does not even see the Phone at all. Plug it into my Windows XP machine and it's perfect, connects everytime, using the same cable. i have tried everything i can find on the internet and multipal forums, still no Joy! Works great on Win xp, so i think it is a problem with win 7 drivers.....
Still searching for an answer........
Oh, by the way it was working for months, just stopped one day....i even wiped out my pc and reloaded it, no Joy!
I'm starting to have the same issues on my AT&T Tilt 2 but sporadically. Every now and then I lose the phone in MS activesync. I have to delicately place the phone on the table and gently insert the USB cable into the back of the phone in order for it to sync up with my PC. If I move any of the cables or phone, it will drop the connection. I tied several different cables and PC's so I ruled that out. The problem seems to be the USB port on the phone.
Its been almost a year since I've had this phone so I want to get that fixed. If I were to call AT&T and inform them of this would they replace the phone or would they fix the problem with the port and send me the phone back?

I'm not sure what your warranty is from AT&T, but HTC normally has a 15 month warranty on the device. Go through AT&T if you can first. The carriers will normally ship you a replacement device before you send yours in. HTC's repair process is generally very lengthy as they actually repair your device and then send it back to you rather than shipping you a refurbished unit like carriers normally do.
As far as it not connecting, try a different connection method like BirdieSync and Thunderbird. I use this combo on my PC (W7 Pro x64), and it works wonderfully every time.
Hello everyone, i am new to this forum. ( although i already had a account. i must have made yrs ago) anyhow, i am trying to flash my sprint epic 4g to boost mobile. i watched the videos on utube on how to do it and have all the software, but the one problem im running into is that i cannot load the sanyo incognito drivers. i have tried 3 different computers running win xp and one running win 7... when i unzip and run the setup.exe it asks where do i want to install and then when i click install it says " sanyo usb modem SY06 software was not installed successfully (17)" i heard you can only install them on win xp, but i tried that with no luck. any help would be greatly appreciated.. thanks in advance!!
Rule of thumb, remember to have all xp computers up to date with windows update. Since I've moved, I left many things behind and I now have a crappy xp laptop to work with. It didn't want to recognize my device, or stuff like that. So turns out, it had corrupted updating components, fixed that, then updated it, after a fresh reboot, I plugged in my device to the appropriate hub and my phone was recognized and the drivers I had installed, successfully installed on the hub.
Sounds like xp problems to me. You could also give the win 7 another shot by running the drivers in compatability mode under properties of the setup.
P.S. there are more factors that come into play as well one you do get it installed for recognition such as:
What Rom you're on and its extension (rfs, ext4)
If you've messed with dialer code settings, (##8778#)
The USB Hub you plug it in to. (Believe it or not, only 1 of all 6 of the hub ports work on my crappy xp laptop I use.)
A good sturdy Micro-USB cable.
In my case, this setup has been failproof for recognition and driver installation.
Made sure Windows XP was up to date. (VERY IMPORTANT)
Made sure I put the ##8778# was back to default, *ignore if you never messed with this.*
Made sure my rom wasn't the issue. Currently back on EC05 Stock, Odexed. RFS.(Deodexed EC05 w/ext4 is failed for usb mass storage recognition when phone is on, but did work for modem usage such as download mode/odin)
Made sure my cable was good, so I bought two from amazon, they work perfectly.
This may seem like an absurd amount of precautionary measures to take, but once you secure and close-in on every possible factor, you'll be much happier being able to breathe in knowing that everything works, and should it not work, you'll be easily able to rule out what isn't the issue and pinpoint future problems.

You didn't say you wanted it to be recognized as a com port.. lol.
In that case, just dial ##8778# on your epic, and on the second one where it says USB, change that to Modem and close out. Then it will assign a com so you can qpst for the port of the incognito. Sorry, I guess that was partly my fault for not putting 1 and 1 together. That should do it for you, I qpst'd into my phone a few days ago..
Just make sure that when you're done using qpst that you enter that dialer code and go back to the pda radio button.

Hey there XDA, ive been having an issue with my GSII T989 that i hope you can help me with.
I originally got the phone off ebay used as a replacement for my T499 that had a broken loudspeaker (couldnt hear calls or use alarm)
It came with the stock TMO version of 4.1.2. Im on the monthly 4G plan with TMO and my old phone didnt have any way to stop tethering so i was able to use it freely. I still do not feel it necessary that i should have to give TMO an extra $15 per month to use this feature, so naturally i avoided it as much as possible. in 4.1.2 the "tethering provision" app was disable-able, so i Initially planned to keep that on the phone, however the phone kept getting the update to the newest software pushed to it and i couldnt get the notification to go away. rather than upgrade to another rom that would inhibit tethering, i decided to put a custom rom on it.
After looking over a few, i decided to go with AOKP. at this point the phone was fully functional. I was able to copy all the related files to the phone over USB. I initially loaded the CWRM 4.0.4.3 and that went smoothly
of course when i attempted to load AOKP i hit a roadblock as i had not updated the Radio. i got the radio and copied the file over to the phone while it was in recovery mode, and then loaded the rom up. everything seemed to be great, until a few days later.
I tried plugging my phone into my PC to copy a photograph off of it to post online, and it wouldn't work. Initially i figured it might have been a problem with the cable i was using. Since it was used, the phone came with an off-brand cable. I tried my OE cable for my T499, still nothing.
eventually i went and enabled "USB debugging mode" in developer options, and then it worked! I thought that seemed really weird, but at least i could still get into it.
that was a few weeks ago. Now i have been thinking about trying another rom, and now i cannot get the USB media mode to work on my phone at all, on any of my PCs, whether in normal, USB Debug, or in recovery mode. I even tried converting to the touch version of CWRM to see if something was wrong with that, and it still wont connect. The PC detects the phone but it refuses to show the storage. when i Enable USB debugging mode, it connects and shows the media device, but promptly disconnects again a few seconds later for no apparent reason. It even did this with Kies running. Everything else on the phone works as it should and it has no trouble charging from a wall jack or from the usb cable.
If you guys could help that would be great
T-Mobile SGH-T989
AOKP 4.3, CWRM 4.0.4.3
32GB SDHC
I hope you've meant 6.0.4.3 CWM instead of 4.0.4.3. That's old-old-old-old-old, and 99% likely to not work with today's ROMs and etc. What I would do is try to setup ADB on your computer and use that to push/pull files from your phone for in cases like this where the phone or computer doesn't like MTP. I highly recommend using this guide to setup ADB if you're going that route.
Edit: Spelling and wording to make more relevant (Skimmed through and missed the point of the last paragraph).
Soooo, i bought a HTC One m8 yesterday, and I noticed it charges slowly, tried oem with different cables, samsung 2amp charger and my huawei old 700mA charger. Also I wanted to put some files on my phone and the computer doesn't recognize it at all, it doesn't even beep, when I'm charging with any charger or even USB from laptop it shows Charging Through USB , and does it slowly, today I went to the shop where I bought it from, and they changed the USB port but it wasn't the issue. I have done a factory reset, cache wipe and stuff. The phone is completely stock, Vodafone one. Help me please.
Charging over USB doesn't ever change even when I'm charging from different wall sockets, chargers and laptops
Does it charge at the same rate regardless of charge source? When I had this problem, it was a combination of incapable cables and a bad port on the device itself-- Do you have another device you can test the current carrying capabilities of your cables with per chance? I know this is a bit of a straw grasp but you never know
It charges at the same rate from anything.Cables are fine, tested on 2 devices, my one m8 charges slowly and draws Max 0,5A from 2Amp charger. When I plug a USB in my phone, whether it's from wall socket, laptop or even a powerbank, it shows charging from USB. So it must be software related, and I can't flash anything since my computer doesn't detect phone at all. They tried to change the port but it didn't make a difference

I found something that might help you. First off, can you connect to this phone on other computers, or are you unable to test this?
Secondly, erasing / rebuilding the batterystats file might help you. I've never done this personally, and am unsure if you can do it without root, but people with similar problems to yours have reported this to be a potential solution in my hunting
Different laptops doesn't read my device aswell, I don't understand how wiping the batterystats would help me if I did a factory reset a while ago

I think batterystats is stored in a location not wiped by anything besides a manual process or running a RUU.
I can't run RUU anyways because my phone is not recognized by computer, what could you suggest?

Aye I remembered this much. I don't know what the manual process is, or if it is possible on a non-rooted device
That being said, what version of Android are you on right now? Have you enabled USB debugging yet? This has been known to force HTC Sync Manager / M8 drivers to recognize the phone. Also consider un-initializing the SD card temporarily, some issues there in rare instances.
Checking "Unknown Sources" under security, then doing the following may help:
Find and run the following two APKs-- AndroidHtcsync.apk and Androidhgcsync2.apk
Any file explorer shouldn't have any trouble finding these via a search, though the first one is located in a folder under system\priv_apps
Installing HTC Sync Manager with the phone unplugged (Or uninstalling and reinstalling it with the phone unplugged) won't hurt, as this also installs drivers for the M8. Just a few things to give a shot if you haven't already
I am on Android 6.0, can't find those apps, could you upload them here? USB debugging is on. It would help greatly, maybe it would start to work.
This is all I could find

Hm.
They might require a root browser to find that way. When I get home from work, I'll upload the two APKs for you
I'm set on getting this to work for ya now haha
--One more thing, just as an aside. You -have- installed the latest Sync Manager from HTC, right? I hate it, but the drivers that come with it tend to work the best. Consider uninstalling whatever automatic Window's Driver auto-installed before installing Sync Manager
Only way I think I could fix this is by flashing ruu through hboot, but I can't seem to find one for vodafone UK with 6.12.161.4 os, I only need the 161 part actually. If you could help me that would be perfect.
You have a broken USB port. The phone charges but no data connection. Not very uncommon in m8

I tried to change it but new port didn't make a difference, it's software fault, I need 6.12.161.4 ruu.
If you do get the ruu and it cures the USB port let me know and I'll try the same.
Have you in Settings > About > Software information > More > Build number Once you’ve found the Build number section of the settings, tap on the section 7 times. After two taps, a small pop up notification should appear saying "you are now X steps away from being a developer" with a number that counts down with every additional tap. After the 7th tap, the Developer options will be unlocked and available. They can usually be found in the main settings menu. You dive into that menu to do things like enable USB debugging.

I am not that stupid, that was the first thing I did, m8 isn't my first phone which had problems .
I've also been having this issue since the last update-- no computers at all will recognize my m8 (nothing shows up in Device Manager, like some people say it does with a yellow mark), and the charging is extremely slow. It used to be perfectly fine.
I've googled forever and have tried absolutely EVERYTHING that anyone reported worked for them, outside of factory reset (REALLY don't want to do that and have to start from scratch/lose my app data/etc). I'm not rooted and can't properly back it up without the computer recognizing it (I use Helium to backup, and it requires a PC unless you're rooted). I finally concluded it had to be a charging port issue, but I just replaced that today with high hopes, and it still won't be recognized
I've tried everything involving Safe Mode, USB Debugging, cache partition wiping, uninstalling/reinstalling HTC sync, drivers, battery calibration, different cables, different USB ports, different computers, etc etc etc, and I feel entirely out of options at this point. I've already spoken to HTC and they confirmed I've tried everything they would have told me to try... just posting in the off-chance someone has a miracle cure

I feel u, the only way would be RUU.
Hey all. This happened a few weeks ago and I am just getting around to troubleshooting.
My phone stopped being able to QuickCharge. Checked multiple adapters, Nada. Factory defaulted the phone . No change. Updated to latest version of Extreme. No Change.
Normal charging works
I was looking to reinstall stock so I can test and call in warranty support, but the device will not connect to my PC or any PC for that matter. Tested multiple cables and machines. There is no notification that pops up telling me it is charging or allowing me to change the connection method. I went into Dev options to force it, but it is still not recognized by any machine, using known good cables.
How do I get back to as close to stock as possible, mainly to remove any issues I'd have with warranty support if I cannot plug my phone into my PC to go back to stock?
** Updated. I've just flashed the stock rooted rom after wiping everything and no change.
