hey there.. you should have got an nandroid backup before you had your firmware updated.. but no worry.. we will work that out.. the sim problem maybe because your radio or RIL is not new and so on... so you should first update your radio and ril.. but before that get yourself a custom recovery... i recommend the latest ClockworkMod which is 5... google 'flash custom recovery on htc desire' then download the ClockWorkmod 5 from xda (desire version) and flash it.. after you had it finished check it by booting into recovery either by passing out the 'adb reboot recovery' command in adb shell or holding down vol-down + power while powering on and selecting recovery from the bootloader menu (the menu you will see after you hold the buttons).. you should see the blue recovery saying clockworkmod 5.. if so then download the compatible Radio and RIL for you phone from xda then flash them using recovery..( copy the zip files into your sd card ( you can mount your sd to usb using clockworkmod recovery option in Storage/Mount - > mount usb storage -maybe different) then first flash the RIL .zip using install .zip from sdcard option then reboot again to recovery and install the Radio .zip using the same option) then copy the leedroid .zip to sd using the instructions above and flash it again using install .zip from sdcard option.. then test .. if succeed you are lucky.. if not flash an OTA update (the official HTC firmware) you can find it in the net... i will be happy to help you better. if your problem not solved pm me!

Apparently Rom manager has caused all kinds of problems on the desire. On the android forums http//androidforums.com/htc-desire/ they advise you not to use it. Hanging at the htc screen is a common problem. There is however some advice on recovery.

Hi,
Once you have chosen which rom and radio you want. You need to transfer them to your Sim card in the sdcard/ root directory.
Once that is done, turn off your phone, and turn on while holding down " Vol down" and power.
You will then get into the fastboot screen.
Here you use the vol up and down to select recovery and the power button to select.
Once recover boots us you use the optical pad to control and select.
Here you choose install from ZIP
Then you choose the Rom you previously copied onto your SD and run, after the rom has finished installing, then do the radio.
After you hav finished reboot the phone, but reboot into recovery and and select Wipe.. after wipe has finished. Reboot and your ready to go.
Any Questions?
Whats the worst there can happen if you miss a step or reboot in normal mode... So what is the worst case scenario apart of failed hardware during this procedure.

flashing a rom is the same as flashing a radio or a kernel
the recovery will tell the difference
install it like you would a rom
note that a radio takes a long time to boot for the first time, it will reboot several times by itself taking about a minute, DO NOT touch the phone or you might brick it.
put any ROM/radio/kernel on your sdcard
go into recovery or use rom manager
install zip from sdcard
done.

[Q] Loop on Cyanogen logo (blue) after CM 6.1.1 update

Hello
I have a HTC Desire (gsm).
Already rooted, with Cyanomod Gen 6.0.1
I upgrade using Rom Manager application, to CM 6.1.1 + Google Apps.
Download CM 6.1.1 and install seem normal.
But after reboot, when the HTC white screen change to Cyanogen Blue logo, after some time the blue logo start again
Impossible to boot ! My HTC Desire loops on CM logo...
I remove battery, try to reboot on recovery (holding the "down" key when Power on).
I have the menu.
When I select "recovery", after some second, the screen go black with a HTC picture and a /!\ RED !
It seem I'm blocked.
How to put a rom on SD-card, and reboot to install this Rom ?
I download CM 6.1.1, try to put it as "updade.zip" on the SD-card, but I don't know how to install it ...
Thanks for your help.
You need to get a custom recovery. You can use either ClockworkMod or Amon. You need to flash it through fastboot (I think) or you can do it through recovery. Command is something like
Code:
fastboot flash recovery filename.img
I am not sure though so you might want to check it out on here.
Once you have the custom recovery, boot into it and then you can navigate through the menu's. You can mount your SD card as USB so then you can transfer the rom across, then just install the rom by going to choose zip from SD card (or something like that).
**EDIT**
Comes to my attention that to flash via fastboot you need to be S-Off to do this.
The update.zip is your fake flash recovery image so you probably removed it. Get the CWM (same version as you were using) update.zip and put it back on the root of the sd. Next time don't rename anything to updated.zip, just keep the file name and use "install zip from sd".

Does the recovery-clockwork-3.0.0.5-bravo.img is compatible with the HTC Desire (not HTC Bravo) ?
I simply copy this recovery-clockwork-3.0.0.5-bravo.img to the root of the SD-Card (from my Ubuntu PC with a micro-SD usb reader) ?
I have the Android SDK on my Ubuntu PC, but not the "fastboot" utility
(not in /android-sdk-linux_86/tools and not in /android-sdk-linux_86/platform-tools)

What is "S-Off" ?
Ok, I find the explication : S-Off = partition signed off ...
Probably I'm NOT S-Off, because I never read about it before.
Do I need the fastboot utility ?
I read several pages, but all use different methodes...
Thanks,
Didier
Manually upgrade from SD, but always loop on CM logo
Hello,
I don't know what I can do ...
So, I explain exactly my problem :
- CM 6.0.1, update to 6.1.1 seem to failed : loop on Blue CM logo
What I can do now on my HTC Desire :
Boot with the "Volume down key" : I have access to the menu :
BRAVO PVT1 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.80.0000
MICROP-031d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-5.10.05.17.2
Mar 29 2010
HBOOT USB PLUB (this change when I plug or unplug USB)
...
FASTBOOT
RECOVERY
CLEAR STORAGE (I try to clear storage, but doesn't solve the problem)
SIMLOCK
----------------------------------
I can go in Fastbook menu :
...
FASTBOOT USB (change when I plug USB)
...
BOOTLOADER
Reboot
etc ...
------------------------------------
When I go in the Bootloader menu, after some secondes, I see messages (fast, difficult to read)
No Image !
Loading [...]
No image or wrong image
------------------------------------
Do I need to copy an image file to my SD-Card ?
Which file ? A CM 6.1.1 file or a ClockworkMod Recovery img ?
------------------------------------
Do I need to use "Fastboot USB" ?
How ?
I don't have the "fastboot" utility in my sdk on my Ubuntu PC.
------------------------------------
It's probably not difficult to solve... but of course I not know how
Thanks for your help.
==================
Oh, ok ! I find (remember) that when I have the black screen with the /!\ Red, I can access to the Recovery menu with the "Volume UP key" and "Power" (not down key)
I try :
- erease Date : not solved
- erease Cache : not solved
So I try to manually install CM 6.1.1 :
- I copy the CM 6.1.1 zip file to the SC-Card
- rename to update.zip
- reboot the HTC Desire in recovery
Installation of Cyanogen MOD 6.1.1 seem ok :
...
Installing update...
Welcome to CyanogenMod-6.1.1-Desire !
Install from sdcard complete.
- Reboot
arghh.. NOOOO ...
Always LOOP on the cyanogen(mod) blue animated logo
I hope you have some ideas to help me.
Thanks
Didier
Solved
I flash again and again ...
I succeed to flash CM 6.0.1, and it works... (my Desire was in 6.0.1)
but not 6.1.1
So, I thing it must be some data corrupt, or not compatible with CM 6.1.1
So :
I copy again the CM 6.1.1 update.zip on the SDcard
I reboot again in recovery (2)
I flash update.zip
before reboot, I erease data and cache partition
And ok, it works... but no Google Apps... but my HTC Desire boot again.

[Q] Which Clockworkmod to Install?

On the sticky thread there is a link for cwm thread, however I'm not quite sure which filesystem to choose, I'm going to install through recovery, seems safer for me. I want to install cwm for 2 purposes, first I'm planning to backup my stock rom so that I can always flash it back if I need my warranty and second I'm planning to flash cm9 to my phone. I'm not quite sure what is the diffrence between rfs and ext4 is Currently I'm on 2.2.1 stock rom.
Actually I found the proper version of CWM to install here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1414173
But I can't apply it, when I enter recovery mode the options I have are:
reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe chace parition
Pheraps I should rename the zip file I downloaded to update.zip? I can't select any other zip from the sd card and if I press "apply sdcard:update.zip" it searches for update.zip and fails to find it.

-- Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
E:Can't open /sdcard/update.zip

Installation aborted.
Because the name of the zip is just not update.zip.
1.first copy the zip to the root of sdcard
rename the zip to update.zip and install as instructed

First you have to root and format to ext4, before installing CWM.
Download mode, remove battery, insert battery, press power, home, volume down, at the same time.

If you had any experience, i would laugh the crap outta me xD
But you download it as a zip right? Don't and really don't extract it, place it on you sdcard. Do all the wipes, and then flash the zip.
If you have a nandroid backup, restore the backup first to get in the system and copy the zip to the sdcard.
But if you haven't, you can do this:
Go in recovery --> mounts amd storage --> you need to see "unmount /system" and "unmount /sdcard/" (if you see "mount" instead of "unmount", scroll to it and push power button once. Then connect to pc. Install fastboot (which you needed to root your phone), then place the zip folder in the same directory as the fastboot drivers. Then open cmd (i recommend you to do Shift+Right Click in the folder, then select "Run command prompt". You don't need to cd then xD) and first do this for a little check: adb devices. When it shows your device (number + recovery), type this: adb push ROMNAME.zip /sdcard/ROMNAME.zip (replace ROMNAME.zip with the exact name of the zip, i recommend to give the zip an easy name). Then wait for it to complete, and flash it!
When you don't have a nandroid backup and not enough space free on sd, you can do it in a micro-sd reader. If you don't have one, buy one. If you don't want to, you're f*ucked.
Hope this helped

[Q] Please help me.

Hi friends. I delete all my informations in my microsd with partition sd cart option when i was trying to install lollipop. And also i flash to new 4ext recovery on recovery mode. After that i cant flash any zip via install from sd cart option in recovery mode. So there is no any rom in my phone and there is no back up folder. This reason i just open bootlooder and recovery mode option in my phone and cant flash anything. When i try that it gives me "status 0 - installating aborted" message.
I read somehere that probably this isue cause of recovery and i need to update recovery. So please help me how can handle it and install new custom rom on my phone.
Note: I tried flash recovery.img file with sdk but i do not understand why but pc didnt get my phone connected.
Please explain me your solutions step by step and clearly

Thanks for your reply. Yes when i am in fastboot , it shows fastboot USB when i connet my phone with pc. But it doenst anything to do when it shows fastboot usb, probably i did something wrong with installed new 4ext recovery (4eXT Recovery Touch v1.0.0.5_RC9) and flash new hboot ( Download custom hboot for Lollipop) . i download both in this topic ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-desire/development/rom-paranoidandroid-5-0-alpha-t3002046) . May it be wrong hboot or recovery for my phone?
After i install recovery and hboot i cant flash any zip from recovery / install from sd card section. it always gives status 0 / instalation aborted issue . And also my sdxt partition cant format even i tried many times to format it . it gives not formatted issue with my every single try ( i tried both partition one and 2 section on my sd card)
Now i flash new hboot and my hboot number changed as 6,93,1002 . But still continue to same problem. Shame on me

Go back to the old 4ext recovery and make the 2 partitiona again, don't forget to full wipe and then flash the lollipop hboot and the new recovery and try flashing the rom. I've got the same problem but there's going to be another update hopefully it will flash again.
If you want to flash the recovery from fastboot, you have to right click + Ctrl and should see open command window here. Make sure u extract the zip and right click in that folder then type fastboot erase recovery

Thanks for help guys. I update new recovery in fastboot . And i install lolipop ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-desire/development/rom-paranoidandroid-5-0-alpha-t3002046 ) Everything perfect except install gapps . Because i cant download gapps and it always give that error " Insufficient storage space available in System partition" . İ partitioned my sd card 2 side , ext1 1024, ext2 1024 but it doesnt changed to problem. After that i partitioned my sd card ext1 2048 and ext2 2048 mb but still couldnt install gapps for same "Insufficient storage space available in System partition" message. I dont know why but every single way, my system size is only 5 mb. İ coulndt changed this space whatever i did.
Do you have any idea?
