[Q] Will Epic 4G Touch get a Sense ROM? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I'm torn between three upgrade options: Getting an Evo 3D, getting an E4GT, or staying with my old Hero until something new comes out. I'm a big fan of HTC Sense, especially the latest version. I dislike TouchWiz. A lot.
What I'd like to know is, in the opinions of those who own an E4GT and are more familiar with the rooting scene, or who owned an original SGS, do you think there will be a working Sense ROM put out for the Epic Touch?
I realize your opinions are not prophetic, I just want your opinion; I do know how to use search, and I did, but getting knowledgeable people's forecasts based on their experiences with other non-Sense phones, and whether they got Sense ROMs/how long it took seems like a good idea. I'm hoping it will help others as well.
Please don't give answers like "Use LauncherPro! it's gr8!". Stick to answering the question if at all possible.
TIA!
-G

In short, no. HTC owns Sense.
.....

Supposedly some one in the gs2 or nexus s forum was trying to port a sense rom but don't know id they ever got most things working..sense is much harder to port to non htc phone ...

Download Launcher Pro, and mod it to look like Sense. Get the Plus version and you'll get semi-identical widgets.

Thats your best bet probably.

I would like to see the Sense calendar and Dialer ported over.

Touchwiz is a lot better on this phone thanks it used to be. I used launcher pro on my original epic cause I hated touchwiz but I love it on the sgsii

I'll feel ya, I too was a major sense fanboy! I LOVED sense!! I've had EVERY Sprint phone that had sense. I decided it was time for a change from HTC,and I will tell you I'm NOT looking back and DON'T regret it ONE BIT! This phone is simply AMAZING!!!

This phone will never see a functional sense rom unless HTC releases their source code, which will not happen. I also do believe no phone has had a functional Sense ROM that wasn't an HTC device.

Thanks for all the replies - not quite used to such an active forum, the Hero is dying
I have seen partially functioning Sense ROMs on a few phones, like the original Epic. I'm wasn't entirely sure how much they had functioning - apparently not a lot.
As far as Touchwiz goes, I have heard/seen that the version on the Epic Touch is much better than before. In the past, I didn't like the simplistic style, the color scheme (especially the notifications bar), and the functionality. It would seem that this version, with all its benefits, might make it more worthwhile than AOSP. However, I still love Sense - its elegance combined with its ease of use, with (best of all) the added functionality (the dialer, the contact linking, the widgets - all beautiful yet extra-functional).
For that reason, I'm thinking of going to the Evo 3D. Any serious reason not to? I just don't see the sense (excuse the pun) in limiting my ROM options.

I would say just go play with both of them for about an hour .... I have both and my 6 yo son loves my 3d its his angry birds and other games boy ..... Ha ha ..... I would love the devs over there to come to this phone but we are getting cyanogen so I won't really care

I like sense... but I know HTC owns that. I am not a fan of touch wiz really.
I don't like the process to merge contacts. My EVO 3D did an amazing job and matching them and letting me merge all of them at one.
I HATE the phone app. Making a call take to many steps, and when you are on a call and exit to the home screen, the process of getting back to the active call is a pain. The drop down menu is not always responsive. I can't tell you how many times I have left a voice mail for someone and left 8 seconds of dead air on it at the end trying to get the phone app you open again JUST so I could end a call.

The process to make a call is very simple.
1. Open Contacts
2. Locate Contact
3. Swipe from left to right on contact
4. BAM you made a call

But it doesn't look as pretty...
Making the call is not really the issue, it's gong back to the call in progress when you are on it that is not as easy as it should be.

Back when i was on the captivate, there were rumors that some dev was trying to port sense. never happened that i know of. i use adw. i've used launcher pro, but adw works better for me. honestly the only thing i didnt like about the new touchwiz was that you can't do landscape on the homescreen. the biggest reasons i went for the e4gt were the screen and the speed. the e4gt kicks the pants off the evo 3d in both categories. the screen is by far the best screen i've seen. phone or otherwise. and its speedy enough i havent bothered to root and rom. which is weird considering my cappy was rooted 4 hrs out of the box and rommed after 8. and my cappy was my first android phone. if your into pretty, i would suggest the e4gt. my coworkers have the evo 3d. with adw and a couple of themes, my phone is much nicer looking. as for the dialer and contacts list, i think there are a couple of replacement ones. i use chomp for my sms. it has the neat little motion controlls that sense does. lockscreen kinda sucks compared to the new sense. but eh, you win some you lose some. hope i helped!

I'm also curious....As much as I love my Evo, I cannot get used to not having a physical keyboard. I have used the stock one, and also used fresh and Cyanogenmod. I have the HTC_IME special keyboard and just can't get used to it. I have noticed that the gingerbread one seems to be a lot easier to type on....I just can't seem to find on how to download it along with installing it. But people who have the Samsung Epic 4G I'm curious what everyone thinks about it.
my girlfriend also has an epic its nothing special with the dev work going on there. If you get an epic expect to have a very stock experience and the gps is rather finkey on that phone
Please do!!!!!
I came frome an epic.
Shotty build quality
Gps rarely worked right
Has the physical keyboard but would miss letters all the time.(button was hit but it wouldn't register.
Screen is nice but not big enough for me.
Always alot of wobble from the screen and the keyboard.
I kept mine for 4 months. I loved the screen but the issues it had and a lack dev support compared to the evo made me switch.
Love the evo, im used to the onscreen keyboard and I like it alot better.
Choice is yours.

ROFLMAO! I read Sultan.of.swing's response, and I was like "damn, I don't remember responding in this thread". Then I realized it wasn't me. I was in exactly the same boat. Just traded my Epic for an Evo, and couldn't be happier. GPS never worked. Keyboard just felt janky, and made the phone feel so unstable and wobbly. I LOVED the screen on the Epic, but that was about it. Every time I hit the power key, it felt like it was gonna slip out of my hand or fall apart or something. And the fact that it STILL doesn't have official Froyo is just sad. I highly doubt I'll ever buy another Samsung phone. I've had so few problems with my two HTC phones (Nexus One and Evo), that they really made the Epic feel like a toy. That's the best description I can give of the Epic. Yeah, it may have better specs overall, but it seriously feels like a damn toy.

Dinc2 vs iPhone 4

Okay guys I know many xda'ers don't hold apple in high regard but my girlfriend is looking to upgrade her blackberry soon. I would just like some opinions of the dinc2 and if anyone has used an ip4 as well and how do they compare? Hows the camera and video capture on dinc2? Also most likely I will be rooting her phone if she gets the dinc2 because she loves miui and wondering how easy it is to root it, Ive read the alpharev thread and I think I have the gist of it. Thanks any thoughts and opinions would be awesome.

I have chick friends that love the inc2, and I have chick friends that love the iphone4, depends on what she or U lol plan to do to it, root, jailbreak, ect..or nothing. if she wants basic go apple. if you want great community support go android.
Its not like android would be particularly difficult to get the hang of, hell my grandpa uses a Droid X. The iPhone isn't going to do anything the inc 2 can't, at this point I think people buy apple due to the perceived status.
And rooting is very simple, its not "one-click" easy, but if you're computer literate its easy. Literally takes a couple minutes once you're ready to go.
I do like the design of apple products but the company and its beloved followers I can't stand. In the end it is up to her but she weighs a lot on my opinion and told her I would ask the fine people at xda as well lol! Also I am cashing out 100 dollars to help pay for it too, and since I got a nexus, I'm hoping she pics the dinc2 .

Put it this way. you can get an iPhone and be stuck with iOS and whatever memory size you happen to choose forever (not to mention feel bitter once the next iPhone comes out).
Or you can get the more recent, more technically advanced DInc2, and be able interchange SD cards and Batteries, and switch HTC Sense, AOSP, or MIUI (which is basically iOS, except better because you can use widgets and everything else that makes Android awesome). In my opinion, if you fall prey to the flashy logos, sleek design and massive marketing and ignore the obvious advantages of the HTC android phones, then you deserve to be pigeon-holed in with the mouth-breathers that stand outside the Apple Store all night waiting for the iPad 3 to come out so it can (not) run flash up to 3X faster!
The only problem is I wouldn't get too excited about rooting the Inc2 off the jump because if you get one now it's likely to come with Gingerbread (unless one has been sitting on a shelf for a bit). If you get one, you better get it quick. Froyo had the only known root method and no telling how long it'll take to crack Gingerbread
That said, even in the situation that I didn't root, I have the Incredible 2 and I'd take it over the iPhone easily. HTC sense is really not a bad UI at all, slower than AOSP of course but of all the manufacturer skins on top of Android, Sense UI is by far the most useful.
The biggest problem with the iPhone 4 (to me) is that it doesn't really multitask and the hardware is starting to get a bit dated. The iPhone 4 isn't "slow" by any means, but most modern Android phones will run circles around it. The Dinc2 has good battery life too, I have to absolutely abuse mine for it not to last a whole day easily
If you do happen to get one with Froyo, AlpharevX is as painless as it gets. S-off and it installs clockworkmod recovery for you if you elect to.
Thanks guys, told her what you guys said and she is like 100 % sure she wants the dinc2 Now I'm excited, I get to play with 2 phones, hopefully she'll get one with froyo. If not I can always install adw or go luancher if she doesn't like sense.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
If she's coming from Blackberry and uses a ton of photo/video out of the phone the iphone may be better for you.
I switched my wife over from an Inc 1 to the iPhone and she's in love with it. The camera is unrivaled to be brutally honest, it smokes any android phones camera and i'd love for my inc2 to have the same quality.
Basically she's not a tech person, she needed easy, something that took good pictures, and battery. The inc2 has great battery but still nowhere near the IP4.
I've owned both, and I would never personally go back to an iPhone, but for my wife it was perfect for her, and she would never give hers up.

If you get one with Gingerbread on it, you can still S-OFF using the clip method.
If you're getting it new from Verizon I can't think of why it wouldn't be on froyo, unless HTC is already shipping out new units with gingerbread. Just don't take the OTA if you want root.
yeah she told me that she "didn't want to fall to the hype of iphone" lol. She just wants a bigger screen, and she always carries around a point and shoot where ever she goes so camera i'snt really that big of a deal. Also the Dinc2 is 50 dollars less than the iphone at bestbuy. All in all she goes one week to make up her mind lol!
well, the way I see it is that an iphone 4 is pretty much an ipod touch that you can make calls with. the other advantage, which is the main one i'd say, is that if you have a nice sound system in your car and the deck has an AUX in then absolutely nothing can compare with the output quality of an ipod touch/iphone.
ive tried mp3 players from creative, sansa(even with rockbox), sony, etc... even tried different phones(mytouch 3g, htc hd2, samsung galaxy s, and my current incredible 2). no matter how you adjust the eq's or what apps you use(even poweramp), they still do not compare to apple.
but, if you arent planning on doing that in your car then theres no point in getting an iphone4(especially now that android has Plants vs Zombies).
Best advice when choosing a device:
Go to a store with active devices and play with them. Spend some time with them. If you know people with the devices in mind, ask them if you can play with them and get to know them. Make the choice based on your experience, not the advice of others, because it all comes down to personal preference.
As much as I am a big fan of Android and Android devices, and despite the fact that I will never choose an iOS device, I would recommend a person try it before rejecting it.
My sister tried going from a blackberry to an Android device and found one very big legitimate problem with it. She's on Sprint and doesn't have the iPhone as a choice so she went back to blackberry. She liked Android, but that one glaring flaw was enough to push her away from it (at least for now). Of course, the same flaw exists on the iPhone so she's doomed to be stuck on blackberry (yeah, I hate blackberry).
If you want to know the flaw: She can make calls and do certain tasks without looking at her device. With Android, she was unable to do this. I'm betting with something like a Droid Pro this wouldn't be an issue, and the voice command features Android has acquired more recently would help a little, but it's not where she could get as proficient at it as she is with her blackberry.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of certain tasks? Is it a difference between having physical buttons versus softkeys?

Something like that. It's mostly a problem with her particular usage. She gets tactile feedback for what she is trying to do and can generally get things done without looking at her device. She's a pretty big multitasker so this is important to her. Unfortunately, this also helps her use her device in the car (I wish she wouldn't TBH).

Tactile feel = knowing keyboard layout. I was real good at punching out emails on my 9700 without looking at it for most of the email. Same with the car use, which I definitely no longer do (despite the fact that it is now also illegal here).

Sense on the Nitro

Hey guys! I just picked up my Nitro last night and so far I love it, at least the device itself. Thing is, I love the Sense 3.0 UI on the Vivid. Is there any way to port the complete HTC UI over to the Nitro to completely replace the Nitro UI? Maybe I will ultimately switch over to the HTC if I can't port the UI, but the LG device is superior in so many ways I thought I'd see if it is possible.

Sense isn't going to be on this phone, unless someone is really dedicated to spending some time on something that would not be very popular. Majority of people want more stock Android.

I am not really a fan of HTC phones. Sure the metal shells and all that is fine, but when you put a phone in metal and drop it you will break your phone everytime. Metal bends once and doesn't flex back, but plastic has more give and recovers easier.
Not to mention out of the three LTE devices right now for ATT, the Vivid is the worst. Heaviest, smallest battery, bulkiest, and it doesn't even fit the "HTC" style.
But that is my opinion.

I had an Inspire and the first thing I wanted to do was remove Sense. The functionality is nice and it looks ok, but my main problems with it are that it takes a lot of memory and with Sense (or any manufacturer customization) it changes the way certain parts of the interface look and ultimately limits your ability to customize. I think all of the manufacturers should have a way to disable their interface. That way if you like it you can use it and if you don't you can turn it off. People wouldn't be in such a hurry to install custom roms if you could.
Don't worry. If you can't fully go to HTC Sense, there are a few good HTC phones on AT&T. If you ask me, I had the Nitro for a few days and didn't enjoy it, I've got CWM successfully ported to it and made a Custom ROM.

Oh really, a working CWM AND a custom ROM Eh? So you so special I see, having something nobody else can achieve. Either you're a Guru of some sort or you're just an awful liar. If you did achieve them, show us the proof, but I think I know what your answer will be, "Didn't take any screenshots or pictures, and now they're all wiped and flashed back to stock since I had to return it".

I have Inspire as well and after 9 month of heavy usage, installed lots of crap on it, it still runs smooth as brand new. I don't know why memory usage is so important for you, but I never ever had any problem with it nor ever it ran out of memory... The only reason I don't use it, is because no front camera (well and crappy back camera too), weak processor.
I can't comment on customization, cause I'm 100% satisfied with default look/settings...
P.S.

Large status bar, separate e-mail program and calendar etc. I think plain Android has some pretty good solutions for all of this. I think anything that can be easily switched out like the Sense launcher or LG Home launcher is A-OK.

Coming from an Evo 3D, I can say there are aspects of Sense that I miss. I really miss the Sense 3.0 lockscreen ring, as well as the gallery and phone apps. But those are things that can easily be fixed by third party programs such as Dialer One, Widget Locker, and QuickPic. But I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the UI to come to this phone. It requires massive framework changes to do so, unfortunately.
I'm not saying anything wrong but 1) youi posted in the wrong section and 2) your asking for huge request that take week's and month's when there's only 3active developers in ur section.

[Q] Note II, To buy? or Not to Buy?

Hey everybody, I am currently a Sprint Customer Who has had the evo 3D since launch. I am in the market for an upgrade, and I am looking at the Note II.
I really like the fact that it is a super powerful phone, and the S-Pen functionality would be of great use to me. Some of the things that I am not sure of have to do with the software...
I noticed with my evo 3D, support was not super quick, and most roms that removed the sense kernel ended up losing 4G and 3D capability, and sometimes even GPS.
I know the GSIII has gained a lot of traction in custom roms, etc, but I don't know if that will be the same for the Note II.
I guess the bottom line here is that I like the Note II, but I don't want TouchWiz, but I still want full functionality especially the 4G and S-Pen. So with that in mind, Do you think this is a good buy?
The difference between this 2 devices is from the earth to the SKY, I been a HTC loyal costumer for over 6 years... this ended when the NOTE 2 came out and so far I LOVE this phone. im pretty sure you will love it too, get a launcher over touchwiz and you will be set.
At first its kind of wow this is too big but now (a week after) its like man look at all those tiny small phones ...
We already have root and some ROMS, so its only a matter of time before we get a big crowd of developers working with us...
go do that swap NOW!!!!
:good:
I just picked up my note 2 from evo3d last night. Once I got home I felt a HUGE disappoint from leaving my 3d woth cm10 coming to touchwiz and how BIG everything is. Day two, im a little more at ease after some sleep.
My biggest issue is just how huge everything is. I know once I root it and change dpi down it may look more normal for me. Im used to using a small font with and small font settings.
However my biggest hurdle is how unstable this thing feels in one hand. I constsntly feel like I may drop it because the only way to truley be able to use one hand and access everything is to rest the phone on your four fingers while using your thumb to navigate. Versus having end of your other fingers having a sturdy hold on left side of phone like normal.
Using the one-handed option does help for typing and such, but its mainly not being able to reach notification bar while having the firm grip versus resting on four fingers.
Having a inner struggle weather I want to keep this or go exchange for the gs3 later today or tomorrow. I use my phone with one hand a lot so thats a huge issue for me.
Has anyone else gone thru this while switching too the note2? If so how long does it take for that too go away.
Also im curious as to what kind of stylus support aosp roms will have. I know it will work for touching the screen but I mean as far as default samsung note apps and such? I know I will be going back to cm10 on this or the gs3. But if we will lose a lot of stylus support then I dont reslly see a need for the note over the gs3 with only .7 inches of extra screen real estate.
Any input would be great! Thanks

Not sure if you knew, you can make the font smaller. You can go to Settings >> Display >> Font Size. You can select tiny but it won't be as small as the font in 3d. but still it makes the font look better.
I used to own the e3d as well but for me, i'm really glad i went with note 2.
I've had every Evo and happy with going to the Note 2 even from the Evo 4G LTE. I would rather stick Note 2 over S3. I love AMOLED screens and very happy they did the RGB setup instead of pentile and a major reason I went Note 2 over the obvious things.
How about one handing the device? Does it feel comfortable or do you feel you could drop it at any second. Mainly with having to pull noti down?

Thanks everybody for your input on this matter. I do have a question about the AMOLED screens though. From fiddling with the phones a bit in the store(mainly the GSIII and the EVO4) I have noticed that the AMOLED is much dimmer. I knew the sprint rep wouldn't let me take them outside to see what they look like in the sunlight, but I asked him anyways, just for the reaction. Obviously, it was still a no...
How is direct sunlight use? Especially for those coming from the 3VO to the note II.

Sorry bro but if the sales rep wouldn't walk you outside so you could see a real world difference then go to a different store with better cs ... my sgs3 does great in sunlight as long as you don't stand with the sun on your screen ...side note...I just switched to sgs3 from the note 1..great transition imo

Yeah, i was in the little strip store by my work, instead of the full sized nice one that I usually go to. Good to hear about the screen, and I'm surprised anybody would be going from a sgs3 to the original note, glad it works out though!
SO im pretty sure im going to get totally flammed for saying this but here goes and I think you need to hear it.
I too upgraded from an evo 3D. I wont lie the note II is an amazing device and is very fast.
Things I like most about it
-Screen size is very impressive for video especially
-Battery life is incredible you can beat on it all day and still have juice in the evening
-Camera is pretty impressive speed very fast fastest ive ever seen on a phone.
-speaker is pretty good audio nice and loud nice if you dont have headphones with you
Unfortunately for me this is where it stops, and I will repeat these are my own opinions.
Things I do not like
-The hardware home button you have to push it in to make it go home kinda pain in the ass since the back and menu are capacitive buttons sure would be nice if they kept them all the same or even better just made it a capacitive button like most of the other manufactures do Its not an iphone I dont want an iphone...
-Screen very poor performance outside, full brightness and I am still thinking to myself this screen is hard to read out in the sun light or even in the car on a nice sunny day, I suppose if I lived in oregon or Washington state along the coast I would not care but here in sunny california its a problem. The Evo 3D is much easier to read outside in direct sunlight
- You cannot operate the camera while on a phone call. Why ? I have no idea but cant do it. Evo can no problem
- You cannot send a txt msg while on the phone either again why? no idea but my evo 3d sure can and its nice sometimes especially on speaker phone.
-I personally think sense is a pretty nice UI better than touchwiz but thats just me so im glad to be back.
-Memory mapping is a problem on this device your SD card will show up as external SD card not SD card so causes problems with a lot of programs unless you root and use directory bind. I did this seemed to work alright but more of a work around to a problem that should have been addressed at time of manufacture in my opinion.
- Stock browser and I like the stock android browsers they are pretty good but for some reason wont txt wrap when you double click to zoom in so you can read paragraphs of text so I am scrolling back and forth to read and I have the largest screen ive ever had on a phone and still find myself scrolling like crazy, hum.
- Swype does not auto space in the browser when posting things such as this very post annoying.
So those were my biggest complaints with the phone aside from this its a pretty nice device. However I did find myself wanting a lot of the features my year and half handset had. Honestly The new features the note II brought to the table for me did not outweigh the simpler things that I routinely use. So I am returning mine this evening and have already re activated my evo 3D and will sit it out till the next HTC device comes down the pipe and see what they bring out.
I will say the 3D does feel small in my hand now but its like an old pair of jeans just feels right, and usually I am very rapid to adopt the next phone I really wanted to like this phone and use it for the next year but I asked myself if I keep having questions if I should return it or not then something is wrong.
Oh a few other things that annoy me about it was the lack of multitasking which I was really looking forward to. However it cannot do that yet=lame...
Im sure much of what I complained about will be addressed through software fixs and what have you at least I like to think so. And I know you can download a bunch of apps to do some of this stuff.
So my best advice go buy one and try it out for a couple of weeks like I did. Its only 35 bucks to turn it back in and go back to your Evo 3D. I will say though the EVO 3D with a custom rom on it is not a bad device and is not really that slow. I think if you are coming from an Evo 4g the drastic difference is bigger or if you are coming from an even older device then it will be mind blowing. But from the evo 3d the Samsung is a nice phone a bit faster for sure but 300 dollars faster and worth 11 dollar a month insurance and 200 dollar deductible for me not so much.
Again not a hater I think the note II is a great device for very specific ppl and a very capable handset. But thought it would be nice to hear somebody else's view that is not all roses

All of that you listed has been addressed before you even got the phone and was tested/working a few days after the phone came out...

No...I had the note and sold it, and bought an S3...hardware wise there just isn't any comparison... and I can run serenity rom which turns my phone in a note 2!

Anyone who says the screen isnt brighter has been smoking too much hash. I could hardly see either of my evo's on a sunny day, this thing is leaps and bounds brighter and clearer outside then an evo. I dont even have to take off my polarized Ray Bans to see the screen. I have perfect vision so it may be different for contact or eyeglass wearer.

I have to get that rom that makes my phone bigger and gives it double the cores. DL link please.
Getting Anxious
I am currently rocking the EVO 4G and I lovied this phone when I got it but started to notice that it seemed like the last great phone that HTC made. I dont get my upgrade until Dec. 1st and I cant wait unitl I can finally get rid of this thing I call a smart phone and get a truely amazing device that is the Note II. I was a little upset when the original Note was on AT&T only but now that the successor is out for Sprint, I am as giddy as a school girl. Reading most of these comments makes me that much more anxious to get my hands on one so that I can finally see the awesomeness and true power of Samsung. Thanks for all the great input from all of your posts.
I'd make your decision based on your preferred screen size. There are a lot of great devices out at the moment.
I can recommend this device if you like the size.

Since you use it one handed a lot, you should look into a flygrip. There is a video review on YouTube.
Hey, I would just like to thank everybody who has given their input in my thread here. I'd like to inform everybody that I am now a proud owner of a titanium Sprint Note II!. The capability of the phone impresses me, and my only fault is that it is taking me a bit of time to find the best way to hold it.
Thanks everybody!

sprint store replacing evo lte with gs3

ok ive had my evo since september the phone was practiclay disco'd out the door according to the rep in the store i went in with some issues with the wifi and lte connectivity and they said they would just replace it with a gs3 since there is a 2-3 week waiting list for refurbished evo ltes
im just wondering what apps and launchers are going to get me a sense like experience since almost all of my last 5 phones have been htc
MOAR ROM is great. Won't give you the sense experience your looking for but will give you great battery life smoothness and you can morph the looks pretty much any way you like. Welcome to the gs3 forums, great people here.

Well, I know that there are a lot of devs working on a Sense port. So keep your eyes on the Dev section, and to be honest, Touchwiz grows on you after a while
Sent from my PG06100
I would consider Goodness ROM with the sense theme and lockscreen. Probably about as close as you'll get until someone completes a port.
Otherwise, run any of the great kernels out (I love MOAR), switch to the preinstalled sense lockscreen and use morphology options to get a more sense-like look.
I agree with others. I came from an Evo LTE and touchwiz is actually pretty slick overall. Only thing I miss from the evo is the stock messaging app and live wallpaper of weather. Otherwise, I am pretty sure I like the GS3 more in every other way.
Goodness is one of my personal favorites.

Just use Nova prime and just move on from sense.

You can get a really close to Sense experience using GoLauncher, and any number of Sense Themes that are available. This includes the widgets. You can easily complete the look with several different Sense Lockscreens. But that being said, Touch Wiz does grow on you really quick. This from an admitted HTC fan . The SGS3 has made me a Samsung Fan . Big time.
This is now a thread delegated to ROM owners/fans recommending their own ROM
Good job.
lol dont mind on my evo i was running meanrom until lte and wifi issues, that i thought were related to the rom but not, so i went back to stock and now im waiting on them to get my phone in stock hopefully today or monday
I was a pretty big HTC fan, until the locked boot loader on the 3D. If you're still getting the S3 as a replacement, I think you'll be happy. As far as finding a ROM you like, many have been suggested, flash them all! The EVO LTE has a locked boot, right? Plug it in, fastboot, flash... That whole deal? Not on this one, it is the way it should be. Hope you enjoy it.
I agree, I switched from HTC to the galaxy s3. Incredibly easy to root, especially compared to htc. I'm pretty happy with the s3.

I am also a huge fan of HTC too, but I do not agree fully. I love my s3 and its stock layout is okay, but HTC is still dominate with sense to me. Touchwiz hasn't really grown on me. Its nice, I just wish the icons weren't so.. I dunno. Just not the best look.

I've been a major HTC for a past few years or so. The LTE issues were device related. Not the ROMs, just like u said . Hell, even Sprint and HTC announced it themselves at the very beginning lol. I gave up my EVO and Team Venom to get the GS3. Can happily say I don't regret it. I haven't contributed very much since then, but we got a ton of awesome Devs here.

I actually prefer TW to Sense, and I was a huge supporter of HTC, last week my EVO lte screen started acting whack, returned it to BB and since they didnt have any EVO's left they gave me a GSIII to replace it and I couldnt be happier! I was kinda sour on Sammy after my experience with my Epic Touch, but I gotta say they knocked it clear outta the park with the GSIII :good: and rooting HTC devices is a pain, the Samsung devices are soooooo easy
I agree with the above. The epic pissed me off and loved my og evo; but locked bootloaders are not my cup of tea and I enjoy freedom that samsung easily made for us

got my gs3 today got it rooted in less than 10 min most of that download time lol
man im loving this phone it is a lot smoother than my evo lte
And you don't have to make your phone S-Off
I did go through sense denial. But eventually I downloaded apex (or nova) launcher and that made it go away. Now if i can just get my recent buttons icon back and switch the back and menu button...
yeah i keep hitting the menu button trying to go home lol

LOL I used to do that too when I switched from the Evo lte to the sgs3. I kinda actually miss the evo though although the galaxy gets way better reception.
