All I read in the forums are complaints about the Evo. I personally don't have a single issue with the phone aside from the awesomeness overdrive. Obviously, people will post/complain more about their issues than those who are completely happy with their phone. But it does skew the image of the Evo for those who happen to stumble on to XDA in hopes of researching the phone for future use. So here's a poll.
bump. i really want to know.
btw. how the frak do i change my signature?
if you can tell, its so damn old!
love it! and no issues!
Best phone I have ever owned or even used for that matter. Few issues but I think most will be solved within a month of release. Pretty damn impressive if u ask me.
Now if HTC would just release the source code we would be in heaven!!!

Same here. If there were, I don't notice it and it doesn't bother me at all for me to completely disown this phone.
It's amazing in many ways and there's still plenty of room for improvements. The roms will certainly help this phone get there.

How do I feel about the Evo..
Hmmm... EVO-lution. I was one of the very first in line at sprint and I have not put the damn thing down since. Even loosing sleep over it the phone is that awesome!

Having this phone is really starting to mess with my circadian rhythm.
I don't feel anything....but there's alot I THINK about it.
I love it. It's the phone I wish I had years ago when the first iPhone came out. I had a Hero before, and I still liked my wifes 3GS, now with the larger screen of the EVO, I don't have that screen-envy anymore. The iPhone just looks tiny and awkward now.
What are the problems people in the poll are talking about? I don't have any issues with mine.
The people that come to this site repent one half of pone half of one percent of evo owners. The people you see here are either either true hackers, heard about how awesome rooting is and want to do it without reading directions, or find us by way of common search term for a specific issue they are having.
The point is, we may hear slot of complaining here, but its because we're part of a vocal and participatory minority.
I have an ipad for work, I had the pre and before that an htc touch pro before a myriad of other phones dating back to the nokia 101. The evo and android are the closest I have ever seen to fulfilling the promise of mobile technology and convenience.
The future is here, and many of the people reading these forums are holding it right now.

My 2 Cents
I really like the EVO even though it has some issues like the Camera/Video quality for instance but most are mainly Network related so it would be a better experience had it been on T-Mobile...now the Dream/G1 A.K.A Valeria, (I named her that LOL) that's my baby, I love the **** out of that phone and still have it and probably would never get rid of it...many reasons why, it' the 1st Android phone, (so the Mother of all Androids) it's the White version (had it as soon as it was available) it was my first Smartphone and hacked phone from which I learned a little bit of Linux and it was given to me as a present on my Birthday by the love of my life...yea it's official, I'm never getting rid of that phone! Sorry, most of that had nothing to do with the EVO
I love it but my main gripes are the Android Market. Hopefully more devs make more apps or port some over. The app store isn't really organize and I would like to see some spotlighted apps or recommendations based on what apps you have installed.

Is tere any kind keyboard attachment for the EVO, like if its in landscape?? I've seen some BT ones but not sure if they would work for the EVO because there's nothing that says it does. Just thought it would be cool to have.

Not trying to be a **** but wouldnt you buy an epic if you wanted a keyboard? Yes the build quality isnt there but I wouldnt think it would make much sense to carry a keyboard around.

Your completely right. It would make since, and the Epic, I think, had the best keyboard I've seen on a phone. But my buddy has this attachment on his LG dare and it gives him a full keyboard and I just thought it was cool. It would make typing out long text easier and faster. But I agree there really is no need for one, it was just something that crossed my mind and that it would be kinda cool

I'm definitely interested in one of these if anyone knows of one.
Why wouldn't just get an Epic if you want a keyboard? How about for the same reason I just traded my Epic for an Evo - the Epic, while it has a nice keyboard and a gorgeous SAMOLED display, is a buggy POS with non-working GPS, amongst a whole host of other problems. And my second Epic was better than my original. Glad to be a newly converted Evo owner.
HTC's custom Bluetooth drivers don't support HID devices like keyboards properly, and I really doubt anybody's manufactured an Evo keyboard attachment just for CM6 users.

yes the epic does have its woes like gps. but buggy it is not. you must have gotten a bad one. cause all the epics that i have played with were much more faster than my evo. the epic's i have played with were as smooth as butter.

How is problems with GPS not a "bug"? I mean, GPS is one of the most important thing a smart phone does.

i agree the gps does suck on the epic. but i was really try to get the point across that buggy is one thing the epic is not. as far as the 1 thing a cell phone should do. to me that one thing is take and place calls. and i do believe the epic is a great phone at doing just that. the epic has a great speaker and mic. acutaully i think the epic speaker is just a tad bit louder and clearer than the evo. but not by much.
Apparently I got 2 buggy Epics then.
I have 2 AP's in my house (one upstairs, one down), and it refuse to pass between the two, whereas all Evos in the house do it just fine. Bluetooth connectivity was random. Sometimes, it would connect, sometimes it wouldn't. Sometimes it would connect, but audio wouldn't go through. When charging, it would reach 100% and then drop to about 95 and then back and forth, and back and forth. Non-existent GPS. Evo will lock 6-8 birds IN THE BASEMENT. Epic wouldn't lock any, even outside.
I think I'll end there, as I could go on for multiple paragraphs with the bugs. And EVERY single one was existent on both phones. I got a replacement, because the one I bought on launch day was just chewing through battery. So at least I know that was a hardware problem and not necessarily consistent amongst all Epics. The phone has a ton of potential, but they really need to fix the software. TONS of little bugs keep it from being a super-phone. SAMOLED is drop dead gorgeous, but everything about the phone feels cheap.
The frustrating part is I could've been off AT&T months earlier if I'd just bought an Evo from the start rather than waiting for the POS Epic. I'm glad that some people are loving their Epics, but I just couldn't in its current form. I gave up, and couldn't be happier with my current Evo (except maybe the crappy screen).
Im asking this on the evo thread to so I can hear both sides. I have two days left before my 30 are up and I don't know if I should stick with the epic or jump ship. I do think it is a great phone but I don't want to be stuck with a forgotten phone like with me pre. And the gps is killing me

i came from evo about a month ago. i preffer the epic, becuase it has better hardware. the evo does have a slightly bigger screen that is very nice though. the evo also has more support in the dev community. but still epic wins in my opinion
It all comes down to personal preference.
Some pros for the Epic might be:
Hardware Keyboard.
Higher quality screen.
Better graphics processor.
(In summary, hardware)
Some pros for the Evo would be:
Larger screen (though less energy efficient)
Slightly thinner.
Better community support including great CyanogenMod support.
Or if you don't like CM, Sense is ok.
(In summary, software)

Epic can't compare to the EVO from a development standpoint. The EVO even has 4G available on Cyanogen now. I have an EVO, my wife just got an Epic, and my EVO has had 2.3 available since last year. If you're going to be rooting your device, IMO, it's EVO without question. FAR more ROMs, far more themes, far more love overall from the dev community. There are people right now working on a Honeycomb port for the EVO based on the 3.0 SDK. When do you think the Epic will EVER sniff something like that?
My wife got the Epic for the great camera features, the screen, and the hardware keyboard (she won't consider a phone without a real keyboard). I would gladly consider a Samsung device if they sold like the EVO did because then everyone would have one and you'd have devs all over the place like the EVO has.
Oh, and my wife also has navigation in her car, so that made the horrible GPS on the Epic a non-issue.

We are making progress on CM7, and WiMax should come very quickly to us, as our WiMax driver is now open source and in-kernel. EVO devs had to reverse engineer WiMax to get it working in CM.
As for the Honeycomb SDK ports. An SDK port is usually better known as an Emulator port. They're hackish and not very wise to use on your phone. Definitely a fun proof-of-concept though. I do however have confidence that once Honeycomb hits AOSP, it will be ported to Evo properly.

Yeah, GPS only worked for me on the earliest of eclair versions, it's been very frustrating.
The keyboard was why I went with the epic to begin with, but I only use it for gaming. I heard that game gripper is going to be making a bluetooth game pad so that's not a plus anymore. The main reason im thinking about switching is I don't want a phone that will never be updated. I am rooted with supernova's new rom which its amazing but there are still bugs that im not sure samsung will ever fix. I hate having to walk around my back yard trying to get a gps fix. Every other phone I've had locked within second from my living room.

Where did I say I was taking about epic developers. I was referring to xda. And stop being a fanboy. Both are great phones. Beyond the fact samsung can suck a fat one the hardware is better on the epic. The software I'll leave to the devs. However, with swype I don't need my physical keyboard anymore. My gps works flawlessly in my epic. The compass however is retarded no matter what fixes I employ.

Might want to follow Clearwire...looks like Sprint is jumping ship over to LTE in the near future.
I really enjoy my Epic; more so ocne I decided on a ROM (midNight).
I haven't had any issues with Nav or anything for that matter (uhg, I bet I just jinxed myself)
I am one that HAS to have a keyboard, BUT .. Swype is awesome. The larger screen makes using a virtual keyboard much easier that in the Instinct and Moment days. I swore after the Instict (which took 3-4 presses each time to get the right character, OMG that used to frustrate me.. I digress) i'd never use a virtual keyboard again. I'd say its 50/50 right now with me.
For me the hardware was a big seller and I wanted android without sense on it; now I just bought my daughter the Evo Shift 4G. Rooted it and ROMed it.
The rooting process was NOT as simple as samsung rooting has been with Moment and Epic. I had to push and run all the adb commands. Spoiled rotten is all <grin> course it is brand new and that phone feels REAL solid in your hand.
Anyhow, really goes to person preference. There are subtle differences but overall you can go wrong with any of the 4G devices.
Good luck; let us know what you picked and why.
I think I'm going to stay with the epic. Its just tough cause my last two phones were the palm pre and the instinct. Both phones were supposedly the best phones and ended up being the biggest pieces of crap. Now I do love webos and I know many of you do to but after 14 replacements in the year that I had the phone I couldn't deal with it anymore. If there was a way to put webos on this phone I would new in heaven
i do rom jump quite a bit but currently running supernova with the genocide kernel. midnight is is one of my favs and my heart goes out to him and his family. I read his lost and tired blog all the time. If I wasn't currently laid off I would be sending donations his way.
The main reason I'm staying with the epic is it has such a great community.
And the screen doesn't hurt either

This is NOT a Thread that I'm selling my Epic in, I need help deciding whether to keep my Epic or not. I want to change my Epic for an Evo 4G/BlackBerry. I like it and all, but the Epic just doesn't have enough development. I'd have to either get the Evo and Flash my phone EVERYday like I used to with my G1, or get a BlackBerry Bold 9650 and not Flash it at all. the Evo is a nice phone, it has all features working on CM7 which is a big plus for me, it's always up-to-date with MIUI, and was the phone I was going to get first, but it was sold out and I was impatient and I obviously regret it. Or, I could get a BlackBerry. Their much more simple and would meet my standards, but I'm afraid of Android-Withdrawal, but I could take it to OS6 and that looks cool.
So, what does everyone here think. Should I keep the Epic, let the price go down with more use, and wait to see what happens? Should I trade it in and get some cash and buy an Evo in order to fill my flashing addictions? Or should I sell it and buy a BlackBerry Tour2 9650 so that I can't Flash anymore, but have a pretty good phone? And the final option, should I just keep my Epic 4G, and live with it, and hope for the best?
Drop the epic and get an EVO lots of Rome to flash . Unless u Want to wait till September for the gingerbread update . Then the flashing begins for epic.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
Keep the epic...CM7 will be out when official gingerbread in released!
I don't know man. September is a few months away, and that IF we get GingerBread then. And even though, we'll have CM7 ROMs from 3 different developers, a few AOSP from a few different developers, and maybe 2 MIUI ROMs. I wonder if we'll ever have Sense or a Port of maybe the Droid3? Or LG Optimus 2X? I don't think we have enough people.
Someone is already working on a sense port, the same dev that's working on miui. And we have a cm7 alpha 4. We need gingerbread source code to help move us along.

I came from a BB bold 9700. I did some beta testing for OS 6 on it. It was very nice but that is all the tinkering you could do with it was put a leak version of the OS or beta test. So I would say you have already commented on "flash withdrawal" so BB will be nice for about a month then you will be bored with it. One of the reasons I got the Epic was because of the keyboard coming from a BB and the screen size. My other options were the Intercept (which my son has) or the Shift but again the screen sold me on the Epic. I didn't even look to root or custom ROMS for at least 2 months after I bought it. But once you start it is hard to go back.
Hi my name is John and I am a flashaholic...LOL
Look up the ORD Thread in the Off-Topic. That's us. That Thread was my idea btw.
And I guess I'll stay. I guessssss...
Sounds like you've already made up your mind and are just looking for someone to talk you out of it... I carry a crackberry and my epic. The crackberry is free and I can do what I want with it, but I still keep an android that costs me ~40 bux a month and has horrific cell coverage most of the time just because it's an Android and the berry sucks for anything other than email.
I don't know much about the Evo other than it's large development base, crappy screen and lack of keyboard. If flashing a new ROM everyday is your goal, then get the Evo and live with the lackluster video performance and on screen keyboards.
If the only reason you're ditching the Epic is due to lack of development, then develop something...
I forgot to mention that the Epic's keyboard sucks and I barley use it. If at all. And I can't develop. My friends will think differently of me. Lol jk, I'm too lazy and I don't have the time. All these devs are high ballers. I wouldn't compare. They wouldn't take me as seriously.

Hi John!
There totally should be an AFA (Android flashers Anon) cause I'd be in it.
I've only had the Epic for a couple months, but I wouldn't trade it for any of the other phones available for Sprint right now. It's fast, great hardware, and has a full keyboard. I use a handful of other devices for work, and my Epic is the best by far. (my Galaxy Tab is a close 2nd) It feels weird not having some new rom/customization come out every couple weeks or days on the Epic, but I've adapted to a slower dev cycle that I was used to. And honestly, the only thing keeping me from running one of the GB leaks is the lack of a custom kernel to fix the hw keyboard lag. So until there's something that feels and works as good or better than my Epic, I'll be hanging on to it for dear life..
No offense but hopefully sucks.....especially if u upgrade yearly.....the good thing I learned my lesson and not going through that again.
But again that's just me.

I've had mine for about a week now (came from and EVO) I have no complaints whats so ever........... Your mileage may vary.......
Its a good device coming from the Evo. Its has a few issues like the Loss of service, but I did experience that until I rooted the device so I dont blame it on the phone.
The one problem that I do have is that it wont play most games for more than 10 to 15 minutes. But I use it for reading more than anything else and sprint and samsung are suppose to be releasing a patch next month.
I would say stop calling it the SGS2 (which, I know, it is) and get used to ET4G. If for nothing else than to know that if something is labeled SGS2 that you should. not. flash. it.
As far as QWERTY goes? Pffft. I was so worried when I got my Evo that I was going to miss QWERTY. I didn't have the Hero long enough to get used to it, then I got the Moment and got used to it (that keyboard sucked anway)....but the transition took, oh, a week or two. That was a year and a half ago and I've never regretted ditching the real keyboard. There are hundreds of 'em. Find one you like. I go back and forth between Swype and SwiftkeyX and can haul major ass on both....especially Swype. SwiftKeyX is totally worth whatever it costs. If you let it read your texts, emails and Facebook posts it's prediction is simply amazing. You barely even have to try being precise.
This phone is the epic now... If you like your keyboard, turn the phone landscape, then the keys r bigger than my gfs physical keys on the og epic

I got it last Tuesday and love the phone and size. Im using the "Go Launcher" and LOVE IT, amazing how easily it is to make your beautiful looking and functional. The only problem Im having is LOS. And battery life is not that good either but , what can you expect from a dual Core phone with a big ass screen. You can tweak it with SetCpu. But Im still trying to find the best configuration so i can have a optimal battery life.
But i must say the phone is amazing and also it also lets you uninstall a lot of the preloaded apps without rooting, something other phones and carriers wont permit.

If you are coming from the Moment you will love this device. I had the moment for 6 months but I had to get rid of it because I hated it. I went to the and loved that until my charger port broke. Got this as a replacement. This is better than the Evo, considering the screen is excellent. Also it is so much lighter and thinner than the Evo and Touchwiz is not as bad as people make it out to be.
The only problem with it that I have had is the sound bug which causes some games to just quit.

I hate the fact that the phone is technically the GS2 ET4G, like... wtf? why so many names? lol. and I am very much against flashing my phones. I've had nothing but bad experiences with it. so I will not be doing it to my new phone. thanks for the info

This phone is the epic now... If you like your keyboard, turn the phone landscape, then the keys r bigger than my gfs physical keys on the og epic

but just because you can go landscape mode, doesn't mean it's the same as a full qwerty

I can't wait! I've been reading the forums about this phone for the last week or so and it's making me rather impatient to get my hands on the phone that y'all have been raving about!

Here's a little devil's advocate.
I bought the ET4G on a whim after seeing it on Craigslist for an attractive price. After using it for a week, it's going back on Craigslist and I am using my OG Epic again w/ the new Gingerbread release (and physical keyboard fixes!).
While the ET4G certainly offers a snappier Android experience and a better camera than the OG Epic, I didn't find the boost in speed or extra screen real estate to be worth the $325 I paid for the device. I think the only speed boost worth writing home about was the speed of the ET4G's stock browser. Lastly, the audio quality of SGSII is inferior to SGSI and in all honesty not worthy of a high end smartphone - this was the deal breaker for me.
Considering that you already have the OG Epic, I'd wait until the middle of next year so you can get a killer future-proof 720p LTE phone at a fully discounted price. All that said, the ET4G is still a great device!

That's one reason I haven't taken the plunge (though I tried once, and the guy at the store said he couldn't mess with my plan). When I played with it at the store, it wouldn't rotate. Meanwhile, some of the apps (especially the camera app) would go landscape and not go back. Anyone else have that problem?

I have a very slight lag (probably intentional) when I rotate the phone when using camera but I have never had it stick.
