Not quite sure what you've been reading, but these are two completely different physical devices. You're not gonna be sticking a 4 inch SLCD into an Incredible anytime soon, nor swapping out SoC's.
If you mean swapping the ROM for something running Sense 2.1, that's easy. Just find any Sense 2.1 ROM and you'll basically be having the same experience, albeit slower, as a dInc2.

I think he means how people are getting their Inc replaced by Asurion for an Inc 2. For that, your Inc would have to have a hardware failure or something and you'd have to be lucky enough for Asurion to be out of Inc 1's in your area. Then you'll probably pay a premium of like $100 or so to get an Inc 2.

Most likely, Verizon will just give you a refurbished Inc 1. Also, he was being sarcastic about putting a 4 inch screen in the Inc. Lol

Unless you bought the phone from Verizon, they have no obligation to honor the warranty that would usually cover hardware issues like a blown speaker, etc.

My friend got it through verzion... so... idk

By all means, see what they say. I just know what I've been told by Verizon, although they can choose to make an "exception" and help you out. Happened to me when I got a D2 from a friend with a faulty camera. They did end up replacing it, but made sure to let me know that since I didn't actually get the phone from them, they didn't "have" to help me.

It never hurts to try. Sometimes they'll throw you a bone and help you out, and other times they won't. It's all in the luck of the draw.

I'd love for them to be like oh yeah you don't need this or that but we will, any ways...

Good luck. Verizon is a bunch of bastards. I went through 4 Droid Eris' and they never did anything but send me another refurb, over and over. We got lucky tho, had one early upgrade and there was a Buy 1 get 1 on the Dinc. Then again I had heard of people breaking their Eris intentionally and Verizon swapped it for a Dinc on their first go....
So it all depends. If your phone is in good working condition, do you want to risk breaking it and possibly getting a phone in worse condition than your current one? Or do you just want to wait the 2 years for your contract to be up and get the latest hot phone?
A year from now the Inc 2 will be old like the Inc is now. Then you'll have the saaammeee dilemma my friend.

Yeah good luck getting that Inc replaced by VZW...unless that phone was purchase by your friend new within the past year.
I've read somewhere about people getting their Incs replaced with Inc2s if they received the OTA GB update and had issues. That's a different case though.

Tired of my Sprint Hero so im purchasing a used EVO. Some questions

Is the EVO still up to spec for current applications?
Are you happy with your EVO still?
Is rooting the device straightforward? Do I have to look out for a specific software version?
I would just renew my two year and pick up a new android phone but I want to hold out for the next wave of devices. Hoping the samsung galaxy 2 ends up on sprint. The EVO I am picking up is $180 dollars, clean ESN and in perfect condition.

Edit: crap its a 2.3.3. . Now I have to figure out if I should still purchase.
You can always try ebay and try to find one with 2.2.

Apparently he has a 2.2 also but it not in as good of a condition. Is there hope there will be a hack for 2.3.3 any time soon.
Prob within the next two weeks. Theres atleast 3 dev teams working on Evo, 3D, Sensation. Suppose to be a bootloader exploit that works on all or most gb devices.
I actually recomend finding one used, if you can. Not only for hoping to find one with 2.2 for rooting, but as there are Lots of amazing sets coming out right now, all year long, so you won't have to be locked into contract with "old tech". That being said, I love love love my EVO, and holding off on "upgrading" until something I really truly want comes along.
The EVO is still an amazing phone, no doubt about it.
You can find them for $150-$200 in great shape if you shop wisely.

I'm not sure how easy it is to replace a speaker in the back, but I'm selling one on ebay that the only thing wrong is the speaker. Everything else works great. It has Gingerbread on it, but it's 2.3.4 (CyanogenMod) with an Engineering bootloader and ClockworksMod recovery. I just don't have time to fix the speaker, but if you do, it will probably be a decent deal.

i'd go straight for the 3vo. i'm seriously loving it. so fast. mine is unactivated atm, but i use it for everything when i'm at home in wifi except texting. sooooo fast. it's crazy snappy. it honestly works almost faster than you can think. you never are waiting for the phone. sooooooo fast. best part: its out now. for about 180 on amazon.
I got mine free at radio shack today. now my galaxy s 4g is on craigslist that things a slow brick compared to the evo. I should of got it sooner unrootable or not. They will find a way soon
If you buy a used phone, add the insurance for the first month or two.
My brother bought me a used evo and the power button broke...took it to the sprint store with insurance and they opened it up and tried to fix it, they couldn't so they gave me a brand new evo on the spot...came with 2.3 but oh well.
a 2.3 evo is better than a rooted hero(better specs, GB, bigger screen, angry birds XD)
+1 for getting a good used one with 2.2 on it. Can check the XDA marketplace for one maybe if Craigslist isn't producing any for you.
I ended up purchasing the one from craigslist even though its 2.3.3 . I'm hoping that there is a breakthrough sooner rather than later on 2.3.3 Evo S off. If I did not have my own projects to work on I would try my hand at it.

Will asurion or Verizon replace my Dinc for free?

Ok so my power button is starting to fail. It works most of the time but its starting to become annoying when it doesn't and also my phone has a significant amount of backlight bleeding. I really don't want to have to pay to replace it so should I contact asurion or should I go to the Verizon store?

I'm pretty sure VZW won't give one up for free cause you're not under warranty with them most likely (30 days I believe?) and I don't even think they have them anymore. And Asurion charges a deductible for a replacement

Manufacturer's warranty is one year.
If you're within that period, and they can replicate the issue, then they'll probably order you a replacement.
Thanks for the reply. So do I contact Verizon or Asurion?

Contact Verizon if you're within the one year manufacturer's warranty. If you have insurance (asurion), I believe its something like $90-$100 for a replacement, but it covers everything (loss, damage, theft, etc). Also, it seems like most people that are getting replacements from asurion are getting incredible 2s, I'm not sure about Verizon's warranty replacements, maybe someone that's gotten one recently could weigh in?

Verizon must have a decent amount of certified like new incredibles still. I'll have to keep that in mind; asurion - most likely sending inc2, Verizon - still sending out inc1.
They also asked if I wanted to upgrade early but I don't want to upgrade just yet.

Probably best to wait a month or two, there should be some nice things out by then
I.E - Samsung galaxy s2 and Motorola bionic. The moto might be cool if it can be rooted and gets good dev support, although I still think the gs2 is sexier and better specced. Also the HTC vigor, which will hopefully be out before too long, sounds like a beast of a phone.
Just a few things to remember when dealing with Big Red and/ or Asurion:
-Have you done anything to your phone that "voids" your warranty? i.e. root
-If you have't voided your warranty, then use it. Also remember if you can't get what you need taken care of on your first call try, try and try again. Many "Verizon" call centers are generic call centers are subcontracted and can only do or approve anything.
- If you have "voided" your warranty by rooting or something else just remember most "warranty's" cover defect, damage, LOST or stolen. If damaged or defect you usually have to send the damaged phone back to them where they then test to make sure the warranty hasn't been voided. If "stolen" you'll need a police report filed and copy sent in (from experience).
That's just my two cents from previous experience.
I am rooted but ill just go back to stock before I send it back.

Warranty?

I know that if you root it'll void your warranty, and today I dropped my phone and the faceplate shifted to the left, does anyone know if I can take it to Costco even on S-Off to get it replaced, or anyone know how to shift it back?
Sent from my Incredible 2 using XDA Premium App
I seriously doubt the folks running the phone booth at Costco even know how to tell if a phone is S-OFF or not (or get paid enough to care). Flash back to stock and go return it.
If you just flash back to stock then they will never know.
Rooting won't take away your warranty. Verizon doesn't check to see if you rooted (if you exchange over the phone). Severe physical damage is the only thing that will take away your warranty. Good luck getting a replacement that works though. Extremely poor quality control in the refurbished phones. Dust, scratches, blown speakers, etc. I swear verizon just ships the defective ones right back out.

you must elaborate further otherwise we are only to see that you are contradicting your statement. As I do agree you can get good refurbs. The part when you say "I've had numerous replacements. Never have had any problems with Verizon or Asurion." If you've had numerous replacements, then the refurbs can't be all so great, UNLESS of coarse you are talking about a number of different phone in which you had to get refurbs for.

I see what you're saying. My first Incredible 1 we took back to Verizon because Costco was cheaper. Then I got one from Costco brand new that after 5 or so months had some software glitch that Verizon sent me a replacement for. That one was refurbished. That one worked better than all of my other phones I had. Then I dropped it and shattered the screen to smitherines. My new Incredible 2 is the refurbished replacement for that broken one. So, like I said, I haven't had any quality control issues from either company. Maybe I'm just lucky but I'm a happy camper.

Are my Incredibles worth anything?

Me and the Wife just upgraded to Galaxy S3's we both had Incredibles. Are the old phones worth anything? They are both rooted and I cleaned, wiped and installed the Touch of Blue V2.2 rom to them. I have pulled the microsd cards out of them and used them in the S3s.

Just like rushead said, they usually bring $80-100 on ebay, just make sure you present them well and give plenty of information. Also you may want to give the buyer the option for you to unroot for them or just do it before you list them. A lot of times rooted phones bring less because a majority of people don't root. Their loss
I looked on Ebay and then Craigslist to get an idea of value. I talked to a local company that said they would give me a minimum of $60 per phone and more depending on what accessories I had. I think I will do that no headaches. The guy was cool with the fact that were rooted. Now if someone or Verizon would unlock the S3 bootloader I can root them. I know I can run roms on it but I am a old fart and tend to take the path of least resistence.
Wow, $60-80 ain't all that bad. I thought they were basically free if you re-sign your contract.

I think these are for people that lose or break their phones and don't have insurance and still have some time on their contracts.
They are a good way to save on your battery on your new phone at home or anywhere wifi is available. Or as a music player. Might be worth saving one of them. They are a great device even today.

Safe to get a VZW replacement Nexus yet?

I recall a lengthy thread warning users not to obtain a replacement Gnex through VZ due to software issues. Well my hardware issues are about to make me lose it, so is it safe to exchange my phone yet?
:fingers-crossed:
My girlfriend and I got ours a little over three weeks ago and haven't had any issues. We both got IMM76Q, so I would guess that is what's going to be on any replacement device. I hear ya' on the hardware issues. I loved my Evo, but the failing HW was more than I wanted to put up with anymore.

My first replacement through asurion was a dud. I had a Chinese manufactured model and it kept losing signal. Second replacement went perfectly well and the unit had no signs of defect (korean model). Rooted it right away, installed cm10 and the new radios. With stock battery, I'm getting 16-18 hours of battery life, 1hr talk time, 1-2 hrs of screen time.

That's the one. They used the "flash is broken now" excuse to get an S3.
Edit: If the RAZR turns out to be a p.o.s. as well I may have to do the same.
I have been offered a RAZR every time I've called, I told them a removable battery is a must. The Rezound is the only other option and that is a downgrade in my opinion. I spoke to a great rep last time who really knew his ****, he told me the SIII has the same screen problems and headset issues as the Nexus, but if I kept having problems he would look into it. I'm not going to play any games/lie to get one either.
Like I said I don't really want a SIII, I just want a Nexus that works.

wut... these exist...
The one I talked to told me the RAZR shipped with JB...I doubted it very much when he said it, but I held out hope until I looked it up this morning.
Either way, the cons of owning my piece of **** Nexus outweighed the cons of the RAZR and having a new phone is always fun for a while. If it's a piece of **** maybe the day will come when they will give me an S3.

Ha, I flat out told him I've never spoke to a level 2 tech that actually was honest with me and knew what was going on. He gave me his extension also, I'm gonna give him a call back.
I loved my OG Droid and Moto quality seems to be the best, but like I said, there is no way I'm getting something with a non-removable battery.
Well, my camera stopped working on my current GNex(#2). I'm wary of exchanging it. It baffles me, though, that cell phone carriers only offer refurb devices when you pay about $7/month for insurance while retail stores would exchange your faulty item for a new one when you have insurance. It doesn't seem right since we pay good money for these devices.
But I digress. I have a question, though. Would I be able to send it to Samsung to see if they can fix the camera(video chip) or should I just call Verizon to exchange?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
You can call Samsung and try going through them. The CSR suggested this because I really didn't want to get rid of my Nexus for another phone.
The problem is you would be without your phone, with no loaner for however long it takes to repair. It could be 2 weeks, could be a month. I assume you would also have to pay for shipping. And my experience with OEM repair has never been a positive experience. I wouldn't trust them to fix the right thing. You also run the risk of damage to the phone when they open it up. Maybe someone else with a GSM model can comment on the quality/ease of Samsung repair.
