Are my Incredibles worth anything? - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Me and the Wife just upgraded to Galaxy S3's we both had Incredibles. Are the old phones worth anything? They are both rooted and I cleaned, wiped and installed the Touch of Blue V2.2 rom to them. I have pulled the microsd cards out of them and used them in the S3s.
Rick

Check e-bay. Probably @$50-80. Maybe less w/no sd.

Just like rushead said, they usually bring $80-100 on ebay, just make sure you present them well and give plenty of information. Also you may want to give the buyer the option for you to unroot for them or just do it before you list them. A lot of times rooted phones bring less because a majority of people don't root. Their loss

I looked on Ebay and then Craigslist to get an idea of value. I talked to a local company that said they would give me a minimum of $60 per phone and more depending on what accessories I had. I think I will do that no headaches. The guy was cool with the fact that were rooted. Now if someone or Verizon would unlock the S3 bootloader I can root them. I know I can run roms on it but I am a old fart and tend to take the path of least resistence.

Wow, $60-80 ain't all that bad. I thought they were basically free if you re-sign your contract.

I think these are for people that lose or break their phones and don't have insurance and still have some time on their contracts.

They are a good way to save on your battery on your new phone at home or anywhere wifi is available. Or as a music player. Might be worth saving one of them. They are a great device even today.

DINC2 29.99 upgrade at Costco

Starting today, Costco has the DINC2 for 29.99 for upgrades. Bay area, California. Tempting, but with how 'locked' down this phone is from what I can gather, maybe not worth it...
my Dinc2 is S-OFF and rooted. The ability to do this came out very recently

Funny the OG Inc would have cost me $50. Maybe cause it has Netflix support
I can't post links yet, but if you go to Target . c o m and go to their cell phones you will see it after they do a check with Verizon.

i can't post the link cause im a newb to the forum, but just search google or slickdeals for the costco july coupon book, it says 70 bucks off, although i dont know how this correlates to the phone. i think when you go into the store, its just the 29.99, its like the coupon is already applied. i would suggest calling ahead to make sure they have some. costco is nice because they give you a free car charger and case with purchase. never knew to look at target, seems like a good deal too, looks like they give a 50 dollar gift card?

Did go to the site, upgrades to an existing non-primary line was $80.
Costco, however, has the $30 upgrade across the board...
Anyone upgrade using costco online and keep their unlimited data? I want to jump all over the DInc2 but I'm worried about losing unlimited data.

Not quite sure what you've been reading, but these are two completely different physical devices. You're not gonna be sticking a 4 inch SLCD into an Incredible anytime soon, nor swapping out SoC's.
If you mean swapping the ROM for something running Sense 2.1, that's easy. Just find any Sense 2.1 ROM and you'll basically be having the same experience, albeit slower, as a dInc2.

I think he means how people are getting their Inc replaced by Asurion for an Inc 2. For that, your Inc would have to have a hardware failure or something and you'd have to be lucky enough for Asurion to be out of Inc 1's in your area. Then you'll probably pay a premium of like $100 or so to get an Inc 2.

Unless you bought the phone from Verizon, they have no obligation to honor the warranty that would usually cover hardware issues like a blown speaker, etc.

By all means, see what they say. I just know what I've been told by Verizon, although they can choose to make an "exception" and help you out. Happened to me when I got a D2 from a friend with a faulty camera. They did end up replacing it, but made sure to let me know that since I didn't actually get the phone from them, they didn't "have" to help me.
It never hurts to try. Sometimes they'll throw you a bone and help you out, and other times they won't. It's all in the luck of the draw.

Good luck. Verizon is a bunch of bastards. I went through 4 Droid Eris' and they never did anything but send me another refurb, over and over. We got lucky tho, had one early upgrade and there was a Buy 1 get 1 on the Dinc. Then again I had heard of people breaking their Eris intentionally and Verizon swapped it for a Dinc on their first go....
So it all depends. If your phone is in good working condition, do you want to risk breaking it and possibly getting a phone in worse condition than your current one? Or do you just want to wait the 2 years for your contract to be up and get the latest hot phone?
A year from now the Inc 2 will be old like the Inc is now. Then you'll have the saaammeee dilemma my friend.

Anyone here getting a Nexus 4?

$300 Unlocked
Qualcomm Snapdragon(TM) S4 Pro
2GB RAM
Android 4.2
Software from Google.
hell, when my contract with T Mobile expire on Jan I'll just drop them and get this baby.
LG made, kinda not excited, but for $300 this thing sounds like a steal. But comparing this with $600 for SGS 3 or Note II, the choice if obvious.
Edit: The lack of microSD sucks. But I can live with it (probably)
Hmm, I was hoping for an HTC One X+, but this sounds more exciting.
I looked at this- I would rather have a microSD slot, otherwise, it looks like fun. For the price, it's a fair consideration for a Nexus device. In full disclosure, I did just buy a Relay 4G- it's still unopened in the box.
However, I am planning on getting a Nexus 10, even without the microSD.
I thinking about it. For the Specs and that price its hard to past.

you can have more than one battery.... if its stuck in the fone once its flat its useless
Another negative about a non removable battery is if something is hanging your phone you can't pull the battery. I kind of like the looks of the phone but no sd card slot? Kinda odd. Coming up on my upgrade in december and I may have to go into tmobile and play with one and see about getting it so long as the mod community is there. Anyone here bought a phone off contract from google before? If so how was the experiance?

I have come to accept the fact that the G3 is not coming. If I have to go without a physical keyboard then getting a Nexus device is the next best thing. That said, I can get this off contract, and if Tmobile gets a high end phone with a physical keyboard in a year or so I can get back on contract to get it.

You never need to do a battery pull. Read up on how to hard shut off devices without removable batteries (like all tablets).
Every single device I've ever bought has been off contract and buying from Google is just like any other. My Nexus 7 is great, but while my Samsung Galaxy S III isn't Google, I run the exact same rom on it as I do on my n7. It was also quicker/easier to root and install a custom rom on my sgs3, plus it has 80gb internal storage (16gb+64gb, am using 42gb of that space as of this post) vs the extremely limited space on my n7.
There are more accessories for the sgs3 than the n7 and development wise roughly the same roms (maybe more if you count touchwiz).
Granted my sgs3 on Android 4.1.2 has a bug my nexus 7 doesn't have (which doesn't affect me), but still those possibilities are important to consider.
I guess my point is that passing on a non Google device for a nexus really isn't that obvious (to me anyway). I have more storage, faster network speeds, a removable battery (multiple ones even), and greater accessory selection. I use the same rom for both devices and both are unlocked and off contract. However, and this is a big deal for some people, I paid probably $200 more for my sgs3 than I would for the nexus 4.
Always consider the potential developer community but more importantly consider the manufacturer and the phone itself. Personally I've never had a good experience with LG hardware in the past, so if I were considering the n4 I would have to see tests and testimonials of people using it in real world situations, but there are some things that scare me just from what's been put out there already.
How fragile is that glass back? The one on the Optimus G broke within days on a reviewer who babied his device and had no idea how it happened.
Can the wireless charging work with a case? I know all phones with inductive charging currently can't..
Lastly, how bad on the battery is that new screen of theirs? The Optimus G (same screen) got a lot of criticism for its bad battery life and excessive screen drain. Without the ability to swap batteries I can see it being a deal breaker for some.
Those are just my personal thoughts and opinions based on the 5 android devices I've owned though. Time will ultimately tell.

Nexus 4 anyone?

Anyone considering selling their t989 and switching to the Nexus 4? With the N4 only $300, and our phones still going for $250-$300 on eBay, I see no reason not to.
I am, I don't like this phone. Not sure if I am taking that route though. I can't even get it to sell on Craigslist. Mines perfect condition, no scratches anywhere not even on the screen and kept in the D30 case. :/ oh well, any Nexus sure beats this phone.
I have mine listed on Ebay right now actually at 260 and it has a bid. Includes case and 8 gig card. I'll be happy to shell out roughly 100 extra for the 16GB nexus 4 after it sells. I didn't think to Sim unlock mine, but seems like the Sim unlocked ones are selling for a bit more if you're planning on listing it.

Funny you brought this up,
I used to own a HTC Sensation 4G. I got it for $180 and it was only 2 month old. I used it for 4 months and realized a few issues with it.
1. Sense sucks (I hate it and Sense on the Sensation is buggy)
2. Getting it S-OFF is difficult and I almost bricked it attempting so I never tried it again.
3. Charger is in a dumb place (on left side of phone)
4. HTC would not confirm a Jellybean update (made me feel like it wasn't getting it)
So I decided to part with it. I always wanted a Nexus for the stock Google experience. I wanted a LG Nexus 4 but didn;t want to wait nor pay $300+ for a phone with no expandable memory. But one day I was browsing craigslist hoping to find a used Galaxy Nexus ( Hard to find in my area ) and I found a guy selling a S2. He had it listed for $300 new in box. I thought to myself "That's not a bad deal since T-mobile wants $450 retail". So I set up a meeting with the guy. The phone was used but hardly. No scratches and all the wrapping on it minus the screen protector. It was a 9.9/10 only because it had been used. So I low balled the guy hardcore offering him $200 cash. HE TOOK IT! So now I own a Clean ESN, still under warranty, like brand new, Galaxy S2. I am glad I made this decision. And plus Samsung already confired it would get Jellybean. I am happy

I'm seriously thinking about the Nexus 4. I love the pure Android N7, which increases my temptation (makes me want an N10 too!). The lack of TMO wi-fi calling is a problem though, as I live behind a bit of granite, so my call reception sucks at home. I work from home and my mobile is my primary work phone. Gotta be able to make and receive calls.
I've just been looking at cell signal boosters and what S2s & MyTouch 4Gs are going for on eBay. Might pass the S2 to my daughter and sell her crappy MT4G. Then I'll probably switch to a TMO Value Plan and save some monthly $$. I think I'm going to try a cell booster this week. If that works, I'll probably go for the N4 one way or another.
I'm dumping this t989 asap. I can still sell it for 200-300 beans easy. The Nexus 4 is an upgrade in evey conceivable way. I sold my Nexus S 4g for this phone and I regret it. Can't wait to be aboard the Nexus train again. It's gonna be a great ride.

Well might as well put my two cents in on this. as i spent today thinking about selling my phone on ebay and buying it as well. But then i realized alot of things about the phone that i dislike that i never knew until i dug deeper. Just a few things, that helped me in my final decision to wait till official jelly bean for sgs2. It will improve our phone quite a bit i believe.
1. no wifi calling, other then some free app that gives you a different phone number... worthless in my eyes.
2. the battery isn't removable, so when the battery dies so does your phone.
3. the glass backing is extreme fragile one slight drop and its cracked, front is durable.
4. heard poor battery performance, i know this is still debatable (firmware, usage) but, with no option to switch it out... risky.
5. washy colors on the display, even tho the resolution is very great.
6. no sd card expansion, i mean who are you apple?

My Galaxy S II is up on eBay now as well. I loved the phone for the year I had it (longest I've ever kept any phone) and it's even more awesome now that I put CM10 on it, but I'm going Nexus only from now on. Can't beat that $350 price tag. I think everyone who goes from a Nexus device to one that's locked down with carrier bloat ends up regretting that decision.

The lack of an SD slot isn't an issue for me. All my music is on GMusic, and I don't really store anything on my phone but ROMs and ROM related things... so 16GB will be plenty. What does everyone store on their phones that needs so much space anyway? Even if I wanted to store my entire music collection, that's 150GB+... cloud storage sort of gets rid of the need for that. With 16GB, you can even store a few seasons of TV shows... so again, what are you guys doing with your phones? Torrenting?

I could probably get by on a nexus 4, my carrier(telus) is dead silent about it though, and theyre CDMA...so i dont even think I can buy one for telus from google.

Thinking about buying... Please help :)

Okay, I'm currently rocking the HTC One S on Tmobile USA. I'm thinking about getting the SGSiii for the upgrade fee (~280USD). I have a few good reasons for wanting to switch, like this device having more memory (big one) and I like big devices.
I was wondering, would you guys recommend this device. More specifically, would you recommend it developer-wise (IE: good development / support. I hear this device has official CM10/10.1 support)? I know there must be other threads but they are buried and old . I should not wait for any other secret device to be released soon
Just one question as well, does this phone actually have sdcard support and does it work well with demanding tasks such as storing game files on teh SD?
Thanks for the help. Hope to be a good part of this community. PS: I know a few of your devs who used to have the One S

If you can, hold off for a little more. The s3 is good but in about 3 months, the next s family will probably be announced. If you can hold of, if not, then shell for the note 2. If not possible, the s3 is a good device. I said note 2 because of the battery life and screen.

One more thing, will I need a data plan on the line I am upgrading to get this device at tmo for contact extension price? Thanks again.

Correct me if I'm wrong fellow xda members -- you most likely will be required to add a data plan when signing a new contract or upgrading through t-mobile. I heard they took out the 200mb plan and now require people to get the 2gb at the very least.

Optional for the value plan. Even if you initially have to get the 2gb plan you can always downgrade

I know this is getting a bit off of XDA's immediate knowledge, but is it possible to modify (downgrade or delete) a data plan after extending the contract but before the contract expires? Thanks.

Yes there is. When I first got my GS3, I ended up modifying my plan three or four times to get a certain plan that TMo laid out. You can do if online. Mine was all messed up in the first place because I got my phone at Walmart. I ended up going into my T-Mobile store and fixing it about a month later. Well when I did that, it did extend my contract another month. What's another month in two years anyway? *Shrugs*
To answer your OG question... Yes it is worth it. I've turned 3 people onto this device.

Ive talked 5 ppl into getting this device at least... and none have complained. Its purely amazing. The S4 will be out in next 6 months though, but this phone gives me everything I need so I dont think I will be switching even when the s4 does drop. Normally I'd say wait, but I did NOT like the One S and quite frankly thr One S and the HTC Amaze are the 2 phones that turned me off of HTC. S3 is so much better. If u have the 280 to spare, i'd do it

DO NOT buy the s3. Better phones are coming out in the next few months. Save your money.

S3 supports SD card, I just bought mine 16G for about $15.
Overall, this device is worth to buy. Bigger screen, faster processing speed. and you can flash your own ROM, like MIUI or Paranoid.
Right now, i think it is the best (price, overall) one on the market.
280$ is quite expansive for an upgrade i suggest you to wait a little bit more till it gets cheaper and you wont regret it ...

I would get it, I love mine. However, I strongly suggest you shop around first, a quick search could save you a lot of money. For example, Best Buy has the T-Mo S3 for $179.99 right now ($229.99 for the 32gb), and you may be able to find it even cheaper somewhere else.
Don't buy it from tmobile, its cheaper else where like at Walmart. Last time I checked the phone was around 80$ for upgrade . Also titanium grey will be available around January 4th.

Would consider moving to one of their pre-paid plans if I was you.
You may save a lot by spending an extra bit on the phone compared to the lousy subsidising they're offering you while still having you pay raised on-contract rates.
I upgraded from a one s to a sgs3 and definitely prefer the sgs3 and am totally happy with it. If I were u I would consider the note 2, if it's not too big. The sgs4 Will be out in a couple months but that will be the international version that u will have to pay full price for. Plus it probably won't come to US carriers for a couple months after it drops...

Get the sg3 for that $. i payed a lot more and its worth it.
Just jumping through some hoops...
Thank you guys so much for the help. I am acutally thinking of getting one on ebay so I don't have to worry about adding data to the line this device will be upgrading. I see some on there for about 400 USD.
Anyone have any tips for buying this T-Mo SGSiii on eBay? Anyone know a reliable site to check the IMEI to make sure it's not stolen lol? Thanks again.
One thing to consider is that T-Mobile is no longer subsidizing phones in 2013. How this will effect Wal-Mart's prices, only time will tell.
