Hey I'm currently using cyanogenmod 7.1 on my g2 and I was wondering what was the best kernel and the cpu scales so I can have a great battery life and great performance
Please include link to the kernel
Thanks in advance!

OMG! Have you searched!?!
If you did, you'd know that the best kernel is the one that works best for *you* and how *you* use your device. So, hit the dev forum, look at the sticky for a list of kernels and give them a go; what one considers "normal" use is what another considers *massive* use so its up to the user to decide.

Looking forward to trying this out. Nice work.

Hopefully this leads to a 2.3 root solution.
Working fine so far. Maxed it out and ran stress test for about five minutes and all is well. Any chance of getting the other schedulers and scaling types in the future? Just want the best performance and best screen off battery savings. Great work though. I was hoping a dev work run with the source for sense once it was out(sort of apperently)

No, you will have to wait for a kernel dev to tackle it, or do it yourself. I am not a kernel dev, and this was more or less a test to see if we could get it compiling (since it was missing files from source).
Hmmm....whenever i finally get my inc2 rooted, if ever, im gonna hopefully use this.
me gusta.
Thanks jcase man your works appreciated

I installed this. Seems to be working good. Quadrant jumped up to around 2000 ( with indemand setting) 2200 ( with performance setting)
Thanks Jcase. Can you tell me what point of overclock is? I never see difference in real world performance. Where would i notice the bump most?

read the title. tells ya there.
@andybones i know what is lolol. But i have never noticed any performance bump except quadrant. So my question well is it worth it. If all i do is use web and data and no games.

got a hard lock simply typing a text message on google voice. maybe my DINC2 can't handle 1.6 ghz.
Thought i was alone with rhe lock up. Had to go back to stock kernel until i better understand how work with overclocking.
Edit: reinstalled this kernel. This time i also installed Setcpu. All it well and right once again. It appears as though my dev doesn't like running at 1650 but is happy at about 1350. Will see how it goes. May tweak it more.
Don;t clock to 1.6ghz then
Does this disable perflock? I have no clue about sense kernels I'm just wondering if I can use things like Juicedefender to regulate clock speeds without having to rely on SetCPU unlock it on every boot.
Installed this and no my wifi doesn't work I will keep playing with it, but it will not let me connect to my wep network.

Best battery saver ROMs

Can anywone tell me a best rom for save battery ?
Now i have Oxygen 2.3.1 Bravo
I would think the Oxygen you're using would be one of the better one's for battery life. Don't go for Sense rom's as they'll drain your battery real quick.
Well anything oxygen based, or the gingervillan roms
Took me a week to finally get it right, but I've managed to get both speed, stability n a Schweeet batterylife
If I get the time this weekend, ill post how I did it, and all the steps from stock, out of the box, to end product
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda premium
I find that the insert coin rom isn't too bad on battery life. Well version 1.1.1 isn't. not sure on the newer versions though
Most AOSP ROMS have great battery life. But much of the battery life is to do with the kernel too, so picking a good kernel is paramount.
I'd agree on the kernel bit, but also, how you have android configured in general around it can have a noticeable effect.
The right rom, kernel, and also userspace setup/configuration all adds up
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda premium
Also black background for AMOLED screens is worth adding to the list.
Im curious guys on this battery subject?
I'm currently using aurora V3 but even before that I'm lucky to get a day out of it.
What potential increases am I looking at here?
Many thanks

There is no way to guess or add a multiplier from your rom ro another to see potential increase unfortunately. It all depends how you use the phone. If the screen is on all the time, you wont see any increase in battery life as ROMs and kernels cannot control the amount of battery a Screen uses. This is a constant.
ROMs and kernels optimise CPU so that les spower is used, therefore things that use CPU will affectively waste less power.
The only way to test / compare is to flash something else and use it the same as you do every day.

Thanks for the info; need to do abit of research into this kernel business as I've seen them mentioned alot and nodded in agreement (I have no idea!)

You could assume stock, then at the bottom add root only and mention kernels and set CPU, autokiller, autostarts etc etc
Rightyo, need to do shopping but will be back shortly
Might see what i can work out
AOSP roms are the best for battery of course, but if you like SenseUi, I recommend You InsertCoin 1.1.4 and kernel from -SNQ, (his kernels are better for battery from bananacakes)

[Q]What kernel do you recommend?

Im still new to the tmobile gs2, had it a couple days. Had a atet gs2 before, what kernel do you guys recommend? right now im trying faux's kernel.
what are you hoping to get with a different kernel?
there are many to choose from
and they are all similar in what they offer
so unless you know exactly what you want, there's no telling which one is the one you are looking for

ok what would be the best kernel for great battery life, and also smoothness and speed. so yeah the best kernel for battery, speed nice and snappy smooth etc?
bullet, synergy and faux are the most popular ones. I personally use faux since i've historically used his for the g2x and sensation which gave me really good results. I've used bullet as well and it was pretty solid. the faux kernel is the newest of the three i've mentioned so it's not as "mature" as the other two yet. That being said, i haven't had problems with reboots.

The question you ask is really hard to answer. Phones are like people. They are picky about what they like best on them. Certain kernels that may work the best for me. May not work the best for you.

I know that, just wondering what the majority of people's opinions are on which one has the best battery life, speed, smoothness etc. Of course I want speed and smoothness, but mostly want to know which one has the best battery life.
I really appreciate everyones replies, thanks alot!!
i tried several
my fav are bullet and/or synergy
both works well with most ROM available in the DEV section

[Q] kernel flashing

hi
flashed tonnes of roms for my desire - whats the benefit of chenging the kernel??
Potential for:
Better performance
Lower power usage
General overall efficiency
kernel
cheers!
im running mildwild cm3.3 - any recomendations for kernel?
i was thinking about ""2.6.35.13-ManU-2.1-GB-HAVS-AXI-128-CFS"" ??

For CM, dGB, Redux 1.2, thats definitely what I would go for, yep. Just have a good read of the firts post or so of that thread as lots of cool information about lowering voltages and stuff....
Thanks!

how does one know whick kernel is suited to which ROM then? Or is it just trial and error?

There's no better benefits than experimentation and readings. Read the threads that contain valuable information and u will gain knowledge. Knowledge will be implemented to your experiments and thus u will have a better kernel combination in your disposal.

Ktoonsez kernel on aokp 4.2.1 which governed would give best battery life?

I can't recommend any of them for your device because I don't have your device. Just pick one. See how your phone likes it and then move on to the next. That will let you see which one works for your specific device. Its like this. One guys phone will work awesome with ondemand. But your phone might become laggy and unresponsive with ondemand. Its all a matter of testing.

Yep, not all phones are created equal. For example my S3 cannot even UV -25mA across the voltage table without locking. However, my friends S3 can UV a good -200 on the 96mhz step and -100 across the board without any issues.
