Im still new to the tmobile gs2, had it a couple days. Had a atet gs2 before, what kernel do you guys recommend? right now im trying faux's kernel.
what are you hoping to get with a different kernel?
there are many to choose from
and they are all similar in what they offer
so unless you know exactly what you want, there's no telling which one is the one you are looking for

ok what would be the best kernel for great battery life, and also smoothness and speed. so yeah the best kernel for battery, speed nice and snappy smooth etc?
bullet, synergy and faux are the most popular ones. I personally use faux since i've historically used his for the g2x and sensation which gave me really good results. I've used bullet as well and it was pretty solid. the faux kernel is the newest of the three i've mentioned so it's not as "mature" as the other two yet. That being said, i haven't had problems with reboots.

The question you ask is really hard to answer. Phones are like people. They are picky about what they like best on them. Certain kernels that may work the best for me. May not work the best for you.

I know that, just wondering what the majority of people's opinions are on which one has the best battery life, speed, smoothness etc. Of course I want speed and smoothness, but mostly want to know which one has the best battery life.
I really appreciate everyones replies, thanks alot!!
i tried several
my fav are bullet and/or synergy
both works well with most ROM available in the DEV section

Hi...some questions about roms. There seems to be 3 main/best/popular roms for and E4GT. Starburst, Blazer and Calkulin...if I'm wrong tell me please.
1.) I have not found a way to really tell them apart especially as a new guy. What are the major differences.
2.) If I'm not gaming and simply am looking for best user experience speed which one is the best. I know quadrant tests don't really tell the whole story.
3.) I have CyanogenMod on my Touchpad and really like the customization on it like setting up what volume based on time. Does any one of these offer that option or additional options. I noticed that Blazer has CyanogenMod Libs I don't know what that is but that maybe what i'm looking for.
Thanks for the help.
Honestly the best thing to do us flash them and see what one you like the best. That is part of the joy of android.
I have tried both of phantoms ROMs and I like Blazers the best. Naerok one is awesome too.
Once we get cm on this phone we will see a lot more options in my opinion.
Hope that helps!

To be honest, all the Roms are fast and none will show any lag because the device itself is that good. You will not be able to notice any one Rom opening an app quicker then another. They will all lay games just as equal.
Right now I am using Calk's rom but it doesn't mean one is better then the other. I also believe Viper is working on an updated Rom based on his twitter post yesterday.

I've had the Sprint HTC Hero with CyanogenMod on it for quite some time. Whenever people in the sprint store saw that I was rocking Gingerbread, they were like "How the heck did you get it?!" Ha.
Battery life is my only concern. Which is generally recommended?
Sent from my Nexus 7
Just like every other "which kernel?" or "which ROM?" thread, the correct answer is whichever works for you. Some people will always answer these with "stock". Others will always answer with whichever one they're using. Try a few, give them a few battery cycles, and see which works best for you.

Every time someone asks "What is the best ROM or Kernel?", a cute panda commits suicide. Please think of the pandas.
I can only answer for the two I have used extensively, franco & lean. There isn't a huge difference battery wise between the two imo, but lean gets me slightly better battery life.
The truth is buy a few extra chargers and a ZaggSparq cause the VZW/LTE Nexus battery sucks. I get maybe 2 hours screen on time WITH the OEM ext battery.
Jame Bond kernel has provided me with excellent battery life, I strongly recommend it.
Stock
I have a ground breaking idea. Try different ones and see which one is best for you. I personally use Trinity but have had many people tell me "that one sucks. terrible battery life" but I still use it because it works FOR ME.

Because this is for my non-flashaholic girlfriend, and I'd like to set her up with whatever has the best reputation.

Well I'm not a expert on flashing since I'm not flashaholic either, but from my experience, all the kernels that I've tried has similar battery with a little bit of tweak, such as undervolting and underclocking. I personally think that you won't need custom kernel unless you wanna overclock or do crazy stuff that stock kernel won't let you.

It is broken, though. Battery life is god-awful, so I was looking for a nice kernel.

For the thousandth time there is only what's best for you. No one uses their phone the same way as you nor has the same signal strength. So no one can answer that question for YOU. They can answer for themselves and that was done by trying different ROMs which you must do.

Hey all,
Just wanted to see which ROM/Kernel everyone is using. I'm looking to get the best battery life I can. I'm currently using Sammy but I've heard that the stock kernel is good as well? I'd love to hear everyone's recommendations and suggestions.
I'm using the current AOKP (actually i haven't installed the update from today yet) as well as the latest Ktoonez's KT747 kernel and have nothing but great things to say about the battery life. The KT747 also comes with Ktweaker for overclocking and undervolting which when balanced properly can increase performance all the while actually improving battery life.

The underwear kernel that's packaged with it or KT747.

It's really going to vary from person to person. Try them out and see. Underwear is great but KT747 gives you more control through overclocking and undervolting, and more governors, etc.
Just so you know. The is no "best" kernel and no one can answer this for you. The reason being is that not all devices are created equally and these devices act different to different kernels and different settings. So for someone to tell you that you will get better battery life on either one would be a lie. You just need to play around with them and their different settings in order to find which one works best for your particular device.

hey guys so I'm still fairly new to rooting and all that but I have one simple question.
I'm running the peoples rom 3.17 and it has two kernels I'm looking at..
agat
abd
ktoons
what's the difference between these? and all kernels for that matter.

They all have their own settings and tweaks and optimizations, etc. Personally I have been using KT747 (KToons) since I rooted. His kernel also comes with its' own app where you can make your own tweaks and what not to perform however you like. PLUS there is a whole thread on tweaks and stuff for the kernel. Flash all of em and decide which you like best!
Alright good to know. what seems to be the best for longest variety life?

Any kernel can be great, it just depends on usage and how you set it up.
Ktoonsez is badass if setup properly!

Joe0113 already gave you the link to go to to read learn nd tweak the Ktoonsez kernel. You can find plenty if information in Ktoonsez kernel thread but the best performance and battery savings tweaks will be found in the Team Kernelizers thread which he has so kindly linked you to.
Your going to have to do some reading and learning and test things for yourself. No two people use their phone the exact same way. While most of us will be happy to help you, guide you and point you in the right direction your going to have to do things for yourself.
Good luck and happy flashing
