[Q] Re assembly - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have torn down and am in the process of reassembling an htc desire but for some reason I cannot get the hinges back in place, the one with the copper will align fine, the other one I cant seem to get in place at all, ive taken the hinge apart and it fits fine without the hinges in place, so im kind of stumped as to what is causing the issue or how to solve it

Sliding Keyboard working loose

Anyone that has the xda2s, are you having problems with the slide down keyboard? Mine has gradually worked loose and seems very unstable. The top part of the device rocks side to side , and sometimes gets stuck when opening and makes nasty cruching noice ---- Its starting to worry me, anyone got any good tips?
Thanks
Mike
Just send it to service, not much else to do.
Ok, since posting this i found a topic about opening the XDA2s up and fiddleing around to tighten it up. Does anyone know how easy this process is? Seems quite scary and am not sure whther i should attempt this....
It's only scary the first time. Once you're not a virgin anymore, you'll feel comfortable doing it over and over again. Just don't turn into a slut .
Some things to consider. Use the correct tools for the job. Once the screws get stripped, your SOL. Oh, don't be such in a hurry to take it apart once you get the screws out. Remember to take pics, or if you are good with memory, remember where everything was originally placed. Especially the screws. Had to slap myself a few times for not remembering the screw placement.
i just had my housing recently replaced coz i dropped and scratched it. the keyboard frame + the backside of the front face is considered under warranty. the repair center diagnosed its looseness as "faulty mechanical".
Execellent, in that case im sending mine back so they can fix it! Better than cocking things up my-self!

Problem with trackball!

Hi guys,
The trackball on my Orbit has stopped recognising being rolled up, left or right, and the silver clickwheel is stiff. Is this repairable myself, or should I be looking at a new motherboard?
Cheers,
Nick
hey dontpannic, don't panic
at least not too hard.
It is possible to exchange the trackball unit. You can sell a new one on the internet (I bought one via eBay, it was in your country and very cheap) Allthough, it is kind of hard to get the old unit out of your phone. You will have to totally apart your phone, because the trackball unit is stick to the daughterboard which is behind the LCD
There are a number of guides to help you apart your phone, you can find it somewhere on this forum. Once apart, you can blow the dust out and uncover your current trackball (mine was kind of hidden ) Or you can get the whole trackball off the board and replace it.
(I should note I got my phone apart couple of times, so have some experience. It can be tricky)
ciao!
I agree with amfasis, it can be tricky but gets very easy once you've done it a couple of times and know what to expect (how much force to apply separating parts...)
Everything on the daughterboard is pretty open under the cover so I suspect something sticky got dripped in there (cola?) from the symptoms you mention.
I thought I had a problem with my daughterboard as well since I was getting random scrolling action in all applications, but it turned out I had some dirt stuck on the side of the screen giving a bad signal on the touchscreen.
I took apart my whole trackball and even took the silver cover off the silver scroll wheel toggle and took out the tiny spring... that was an adventure getting it all back together correctly after cleaning!
I chalk all of it up to an excellent learning experience and now have no fear of taking it all apart just to look at it again. You will too.
Good luck!
Thanks guys! Will give this a try and see what happens

[Q] Fixing the housing around the lcd

Hey guys,
I did a DIY screen replacement on my DHD, only problem was that I kind of made a mess of the housing (the gap between the housing and the screen, it's loose so when i put my phon all back together the screen keeps falling out. I previously used sticky tape over the phone (LOL, looks pretty nomad), removed it and then screen falls out non stop, I was wondering what type of glue I would need to fix the housing into place, my screen is loose and constantly unplugs alot, so as of right now i'm using the androindscreencast java app on my pc to even use my phone, (since my screen still works but I always need to disassemble my phone to plug in the screen cable), so all I can do at the moment is just look at my screen. All I want to know is how I would sticky the inside so it wont let the screen fall out.
All help is much appreciated!

It needs to be pretty sticky, seeing as how part of taking the screen apart requires you to use a heat gun to loosen the adhesive.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions &

you need double sided adhesive tape.

[Q] Dead zone in center of touchscreen

Today my dz developed a dead zone in the center of the screen. It's in quite an annoying place - across the top set of numbers on the dialer/unlock pad
Since I flashed Andromadus b2 yesterday with Supercharge, i quickly flashed back to cm7 to see if it was a weird ROM issue. No dice.
So, I've already ordered a replacement digitiser. Has anyone done the digitiser replacement repair and lived to tell the tale? What do I need to be careful of?
From this video it looks fairly straight forward, aside from all the mucking around with ribbon cables.
it is very straight forward. granted ive taken apart lots of phones so this isnt to foreign to me. but im under the impression that most people can handle this, its not the most complicated phone out there. i have one of those fake iphones that i got just to use dual sim cards (theyre garbage but besides the point) that phone to replace digitizer you need to solder the connections.
the only issue i had is using a hair dryer to heat the glue, ive used a heat gun before (on that fake iphone) and melted the screen! so use lower heat ie a hairdryer and just know you need to get it quite warm. good luck!
It isn't hard to replace. I have replaced mine and one other. The only advice I have for you is to take your time because it's a long process. And make sure you glue the screen down very well at the end because you don't want dust to get under it. Good luck!

Dust under the digitizer

Hello all,
As many of you, I'm experimenting the annoying issue with dust over the screen of my HTC Desire.
I don't know why it is there, I can only report that the previous owner (I bought it used) broke the screen, and had it replaced it by a service company with an original one; maybe the company didn't seal it properly.
However, I have already unassembled and cleaned it one month ago, closed everything and now the dust is appearing again.
My idea now is to approach the problem in a much more drastic way.
I want to open again the phone, and to seal the digitizer to the chassis, and the screen to the digitizer, to avoid any dust there between.
I need an idea on which material/sealer/glue I could use, it should be soft enough to fill the gaps but not too much, to avoid to make it run where it should not...
Any idea on what could I use?
What about silicon glue? Is it too drastic?
Is there anybody that has already did it?
Ciao,
Giovanni
PS: I already searched; I only found posts reporting the problem, but no solution at all.
This is why I would try something new. And this is why I'm asking your help.
