Where to delete files? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know the best place to search for files on the phone that are not necessary to have & just take up memory?
The reason I ask is that I have the stupid red icon that says internal phone storage space is nearly full & then the uninstall apps/data
The thing is that 99% of every app I have is on the SD card, my pics are on the SD card, I have no music on the phone & I have no idea where to look for stuff to delete.
The phone says 48MB on it when the red icon shows up. Tried Cache cleaner, but that doesn't do that much. I'm sure there are hidden files or temp files or something i'm missing. Even cleared slacker stuff, & internet cache.
Does anyone know what folder I should be looking in?
Thanks.

Phone or memory card? Are you rooted?

Idk I got that on Simply AOSP rom v4 but I tried moving as many apps to sd and nothing.

...that's strange. Do you have any apps on /system/app you don't need? Srf is pretty slimmed down

Everything seems to be the files that would need to be there for stock files & that's it.

The /system/app is pretty slimmed down. And you know how many other files are not there or size-optimized in srf? Its all behind the scenes.
And I didn't even think of apps on /data....try titanium backing up all your apps contacts etc and wipe data.

YA i know but bonsai is as slim as you can get as in no extra "crap apps"
Like outdated wireless tether, wired tether, download crutch, galaxy tuner and other crap which i deleted...
Plus launcher pro demo... they should of left touchwiz there instead.. its annoying to install the full version cause u have to delete the demo one with titanium then have a file explorer in your recent apps before u do that cause u wont have a launcher to launch anything..
but after cleaning and configuring it then it is slimmed down.

I've looked on the apps folder & deleted a few items I don't use which won't move the SD, but I still think there are other files that can be deleted but i'm not sure where they hide.
I have managed to get up to about 63MB free now, so that'll keep it from giving me the error.
Now i've realized how important it is for apps to be able to be moved to SD. The ones that can't not many people will use. I guess down the road with more internal memory on phones this may not become a problem.

Thing is, it shouldn't be a problem with our phones. I've never had this problem. Which is why I'm curious lol

Had the same thing happened to me, I was re-installing sfr1.2 and genocide 2.0 and somehow ran into this problem... I did a wipe data/ factory reset then wiped cache/dalvik 3 times then flashed srf1.2 then flashed genocide 2.0 and all seems well again... must have just screwed up the first time somehow!

[Q] Can install/update maximum of two apps at a time, then no more

Posted this thread a couple of days ago, kinda the same issues, kinda not. Enough that I think it warrants a new thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=948712
I can install/update a maximum of two apps. After that any others that were downloading simultaneously will just get stuck in that un-cancelable "installing" state. If I only downloaded/updated two apps then no others will download update until I follow my "solution" on the thread mentioned above.
Any ideas?
backup your apps with titanium, try a new rom, see if another gives you problems, if it does then restore the one you have now, if its fixed with another rom then restore your backups and enjoy a new rom

I backup apps and data regularly with Titanium. I use the Stock 2.2, rooted, S-Off. "Try another rom" is not a solution.
Coupled with the issues you had on the other thread -- have you considered that you might have a problem with your SD card? If you remove the card entirely and try to install more than two or three applications, does it still occur? I think you also said something about having a large amount of programs already installed. I don't know if the large number of applications can cause any types of market issues.

SD card has been tested and tested again for errors and issues. There are none.
However you are correct about the removal of the sd card. I removed it and installed 5 apps in quick succession. All were downloading at the same time and installed without problems.
Also the issue I was having in the previous thread is back and the solution I posted no longer works.
That's really strange. I'd guess your phone doesn't like the card. Have you applied the SD card speed tweaks that have been going around? Maybe using different values may help.

Try wiping it delvik cache. That helped me with installation issues.
Id also format it sdcard for safety.

If it works okay with your SD card removed, it's going to be an issue with the card, even if you haven't been able to find one otherwise. If you have another card around, try to put that one in and see if it works.

Titanium backup question, please halp meh...

Ok I have a lot of backups stored in TI, but I am wanting to re flash my ROM and wipe data ect..
My question is can I somehow make a backup of just the apps that are installed on my phone right now, so when I start to put the apps back I can flash all the apps I have now instead of going and unchecking all the apps I don't want installed right now?
I hope that makes sence, I'm not good at expressing what's in my brain onto txt...
Thx for help.

And the answer is yes, select batch back up and only select the files you want to install, instead of just selecting all.

I know how to do that. But I have a lot of apps that are backed up but not installed so it would take a while.
I just want to know if there is a quicker way.
I guess I could ask like this;
Is there a way to backup all current installed apps, then flash a new ROM or wipe data, and then re-install just the apps that u just then backed up? Completly ignoring all other backups of apps that are stored there.

Yes, you can backup the current apps installed. There's an APP in the market called App Backup & Restore. This backs up all apps in your phone (giving you the option to check/uncheck which ones you dont want) and allows you to restore those apps with ease.
Check it out...I hope this is what you're looking for!
You could also back them up with a nandroid and do an advanced restore data and get all your current apps back.

You and I seem to think alike kenny, but you're always a bit ahead of me! I was thinking this same thing, or the other option, still in TB, would be to batch restore and then click the box "deselect all" so then you only have to go through and check the ones you want instead of unchecking the ones you don't. I think this was mentioned before as well.
I was wondering if you could provide a bit more info on the advanced restore data. I know it's an option available in CWM, but I'm wondering if there are situations where it wouldn't work as well as using some backup app. I think I read that if you were switching versions, like Froyo to Gingerbread, it probably wouldn't work well. But I've got the nandroid backup from EI22, just after I rooted and applied the GPS fix and silent camera mod, and I think the custom ROMs I've seen lately are all based on that, so would it work OK? The advanced restore of data seems like it would be a bit easier (or at least simpler) than using an app, but I don't know too much about how it works. Any clarifications about this would be appreciated. Thanks.

It should work fine. It only restores 3rd party apps and data and the data folder of your phone. The other stuff should be in your phones system folder.
Well personally I would just do a clockwork backup like the previous guys said, and then advanced restore my data onto the new rom. I've been doing this with Rom installs for 2 years and it's always worked pretty well.
Anyways, if you really wanted to use TB that bad to do it, I would go into your SD card folder, copy the TB folder onto the computer (All your old backups you don't want to get rid of would be in here) Delete the TB Folder on your SD card, then re-run TB again. Do a batch backup of all your apps (that you have currently installed). If you ever want any of the old backups of apps you don't currently use, they'll always be on the computer.
Make a new label & add all the apps you have installed right now & and that you want to restore on your new rom. Then when your new rom setup is ready to restore apps just filter that label you made & bach restore

I've noticed that Titanium Backup doesn't backup the data for this game. Anyone knows why? Where's it stored at?

I have completed the WMW 1.7 (3 stars etc.) and now I am going to root my phone. The problem is that I don't have access to the save file as from the last update it is accessible only for root users. Does anyone know how I could backup the game progress so I won't loose it while rooting?

Titanium Backup ICS -> GB

I know there are issues with some apps when restoring data from ICS to GB, as I have experienced the lot of FCs that occur when you do so. Searched quite a bit to see if there was anything like this posted, so forgive me if I didn't have the correct parameters in my search and missed it.
It got me thinking...
Is it possible to edit any of the files within the Titanium Backup data to make it compatible from one to the other and vice versa or would it "brick" the data?
If it's possible, would someone be willing to share their Titanium Backup of GB data (from Temple Run or Fruit Ninja preferably as it seems to effect games more often than not) so I can look into it a bit further [EDIT: by comparing the data files to my ICS backups]?
If not, then I guess we're SOL.
Yea, some of my saved games wouldn't even load back on gb. Had to start all over again on blast monkeys.

While I admire the initiative to learn to bend android to your will... This ^^^ idea would be very involved, take some specific tools, (to extract the images), and incredible know how to alter things accordingly. Pretty sure the process would involve flashing your target operating system, creating a TB back up of said game, app, etc, then painstakingly diffing it against your existing backup from other android version.
Might just be easier to start fresh with the game or app on gb, ics, jb, Froyo, whatever, then create a new group in TB where you backup said data, based on version of android.
That's what I do.

As usual, HipKat is correct. :good:
I had some time to flash Reloaded this morning and did a restore of my Temple Run's Titanium Backup (TB from now on). Lo and behold, it force closed right away. From there, I went into manage applications to clear the data. After clearing, I opened Temple Run again, to do a run so I could prep it for a TB, to compare the GB files to the previous ICS files that I had.
After clearing the data, however, it seemed to get rid of the FC issue, but still maintained the TB data, meaning that the ICS data was still intact, and functional after flashing back to GB. :victory::victory:
Hopefully this is the case for everyone. I'll report back shortly to see if it works again, because I believe I have a faulty download of the Reloaded .zip causing Aroma to not install everything that I selected. I'm currently re-downloading the .zip as I type this out, so I'll be re-flashing shortly. Once I re-flash (and hopefully the Aroma options carry over this time), I'll check and see if the TB data will be maintained again.
I don't know if it's fixed, because I've been of Reloaded for a while, but as it was, installing TB from Aroma caused and FC. What I do is add the tb app and it's lib file to the ROM.zip before I flash it so it's pre-installed

Try factory reset. I've never had that issue before. I've been reading the forums and the external memory on the gs3 and note 2 among others can be tricky. There are mods that can be applied that help issues with expandable memory. Tread lightly, and carefully is the only advice I have right now

Try asking in the Omega ROM thread then. Might be something specific to that ROM. Alternatively, go back to stock.

I agree.
Also, before posting in the Q&A section, go to the rom's thread and post the issues prior to asking here. Also, Galaxy Note 2 should have about 16GB of internal storage.
And you didn't mention what brand of SD card you bought. You may need to check that product issue prior to problem, also, when you use App2Data, I would suggest you restart your phone after using App2Data. Also, you may need to check your apps' data for any extra data. Some apps may download extra data and store it on your phone without lettting you know.
i was using a Sandisk 16gb and it worked perectly fine, all these things seem to happen out of nowhere. When i tried to use apps to SD it would never shower up with movable apps so i treid moving them using MY FILES.
When i downloaded a music software on my computer the phone wouldn't show up either when plugged in.
thanks for helping tho ive waited quite a few days for help
