I've been trying to get boot manager to work and so far no luck. Eerytime I install a rom it gets stuck at the ssplash screen. Sometimes it will freeze myy phone up when it's installing. The roms I been trying to install in the additional slots are Miui and pool party. It does ask something before install about either installing ext2 or ext4. Can someone explain what that is and how I can find out what my current rom ext is? I'm running SkyRaider1.1
Does it not say in the roms description? It usually does, a lot of the new roms are going to ext4, its basically just a different format for your SD card, ext4 is supposedly faster, I would try visiting skyraiders website to see, o, and I read that if the other roms you were trying to install to boot with this are ext4 roms, they will not work, this was only like 2 days ago I read that so unless they have fixed it since then that may be your problem also...

it doesnt matter the rom runs off the sdcard. the .img files it creates are each partition for the rom, it asks you what filesystem you want to use for those img files.

No I looked like 10x. Does not say what file extension it is on SkyRaider website. I talked to a dev. and he said the app isn't connecting to the servers and if I tried connecting using data not wifi which I have been and no luck. I'm just going to get a refund
I would listen to guy above me, he's pretty knowledge, but like I said, regardless of that issue, I red under comments on market, if the roms you are trying to use run ext4 they won't work for some reason, I don't know why, just what a lot of people said, it kept me from buying it cause I wanted to try it.

I love my boot manager. I always install as ext2 and don't have problem. I'm running CM7 beta as my main phone rom, with Magnolia, MIUI, Carbonite and GingerBangVanilla in the other slots. So much win.
Anyway you can always copy past the bootmanagers log.txt into an email and send it to [email protected] and they'll be more than happy to help.

Yeah I've already done that. They told me my app was connecting to servers to install necessary files in order for it to work properly. They told me to open the app using data while wifi disconnected which I always do anyways. I don't use wifi unless im downloading huge files. I told them i tried it and nothing seem to work, Haven't heard from them ever since. If i install as ext 2 it will install but when i want to select rom 1 it will get stuck at splash screen. If i install ext 4, it freezes my phone

Didn't find ext4. I see ext3 in some parts though. Weird.. If my rom is ext3 and it only gives me the option to install as ext 2 or 4. Look at my screen shot in OP to see what ik talking about.
I've been playing with boot manager and have found it a bit buggy as well. I was able to install Miui and stock GingerSense, but both Pool Party and OMFGB boot loop.
I'm not complaining though, I'm amazed it works at all considering what it's doing. I'll happily wait for it to be further refined, and I'm happy to support an app like this.
I think I may have found the problem. Correct me if i'm wrong. I'm running skyraider and the file system is ext3. I need ext4 installed on the main rom for boot manager to work? I tried converting it to ext4 but wouldn't boot so i converted it back to ext3 via EXT4 recovery

Hello I have been having issues flashing any sense 3.0 roms on my phone. Other roms flash perfectly fine including gb roms. I am currently running INfected Inspire 4g and ran Mikfroyo prior to that as well as many more froyo roms. I have a version 002 Evo purchased on launch day. I am fully rooted using Amon Ra's latest recovery. The roms flash perfectly fine but I get an infinite boot loop on the white "HTC Evo 4g" screen. I have tried superwipe and have used it 3x prior to flashing a rom, I have the latest radio, pri etc. I have also tried flashing with a downgraded 1.7 pri. I have "double flashed" the roms. All with no luck. I still get the bootloop. Is there any fix or ideas how to resolve this issue I would really love to use some of the newer GB roms.
Here is a list of Roms that give the bootloop after flashing:
Dominus_Zeta
Virusrom Kingdom Revolution
B.O.S. Kingdom port r2
Misfits speedy port
Virusrom gingersense
Evolved Rom shifted "Get abducted"
There may be one or two more but there are enough there to find a common denominator. If there is any way that this can be fixed I would be greatly appreciative. Also I will be subscribed to this thread and have xda sent to my phone so most of the time I will reply very soon to answer any questions to help solve the issue. A huge thank you in advance to any one willing to offer a helping hand.
i believe you need to partition the sdcard to make enough space for the /system. yes, some /system will be on your sdcard.

I have the same hardware, launch day 0002 hardware, I recently started using Virus Kingdom ROM, the latest version from his website. When I was first messing with it I would have problems with the white EVO screen not going away, I would have to pull the battery and get back into recovery, wipe cache and dalvik and make sure to select shut down phone instead of reboot.
Hope that helps!

This is really a question for the General or Q&A forums, but the answer is yes. There's an app on the market called Boot Manager which lets you set up and boot between 5 different roms - 4 on your SD card and one on the phone.
The good - it actually works.
The bad - it doesn't work.
At least that's been my experience with it. At one point, I had 3 different roms all working perfectly on it, now, I can't see to get anything to work. A little frustrating, but I'm still glad I bought the app - that it does work at all (if all the planets align) is pretty amazing, and I'm sure it'll get better over time.
In cases where it doesn't work, how easy is it to get back to using your phone? And how is the transfer of data? Do you use Titanium Backup?

If it fails, boot into recovery and flash the update.zip file from the boot managers phonerom folder. Visit www.init2winitapps.com for the complete users guide. It works well for me. I have four roms installed in mine.

I apologize for posting in the wrong forum. I bought Boot Manager and installed Virtuous Unity in sd card slot 1. Do I need to install a kernel separately or is it installed already? The install took some time and when it finished I hit "reboot into rom 1" and it told me there was no rom in slot 1. I am going to flash the update.zip file now.
edit: i've flashed the update.zip and tried an AOSP rom instead of sense and I get the same error.
can you mix sense and AOSP roms using this???

I've been trying to get boot manager up and running, but for some reason when I go to setup phone rom it keeps looping boot manager has been given superuser permissions. I've tried deleting the folder from the SD card, uninstalling the program, resetting the permissions in su, but no luck. Can someone help me out
If I remember correctly only a few ROMs will boot on BM. You could talk directly to them here
Its not a rom program, but the actual app itself
Have 4 ROMs running on BM here. Havent got ICS a5 running yet or it would be 5. May be of some help but direct link to their forums that fenixjn posted might be a better place as the devs GFlam and Conap check their forums numerous times a day and are fantastic.
Which ROM are you trying to boot? I have four running but have had some issues with some of the newer ones.
I think that you need to talk directly to the Devs.
And as stated, some Roms do not let boot manager open.

I got ics alpha to run in a slot with BM, but once in ics I couldn't use BM.
I'm not even at the step of getting a rom ready to setup,I press the setup phone rom button and it starts a continuous loop of granting superuser permissions, and it doesn't stop until I either restart the phone or force close it
I bought it and never got it to work. I am happy to support devs and it is an awesome Idea but, I couldnt find a single rom that would boot from it. MIUI, OMGB, CM none worked
I got the problem fixed,it was something wrong with my backup,a clean install fixed it

Once you are in the ICS, then let it settle, then reboot it. Check to make sure you have an internet connection of anykind so it can check permissions, then try to reload it. Also, NEVER delete the Bootmanager directory while in a Slot ROM. Can you say problem? It is, that is the only way you can get back to the stock Boot.img.

I also had the same problem, after I had it installed and running flawlessly.
A solution is to do a clean wipe of your phone, and reflash the ROM you want as your primary. SD cards can corrupt data just like anything else, so sometimes a file gets screwed. So I wiped, reflashed primary, then restored the apps, then set up boot manager, and installed 4 ROMs without any problems.
S-offed and rooted when I first got it. Removed all the bloatware, and got some needed space back. Tried to install custom ROMS that I found off of xda. When flashed the Rom with unofficial cwm recovery, the phone booted back up, but with no signal. When trying to connect through WiFi, under the quick settings option said "Error". Cannot use WiFi or get a signal. Was wondering if it had anything to do with the bootloader not being unlocked. Went to htcdev.com to unlock bootloader, downloaded the Rom update utility for the virgin mobile wildfire s, the ruu told me my Rom image needed updated. After starting the update, phone reboited with the silver HTC on the screen, then shut off and restarted only to be told by my computer that there was a "device id" error. Anyone know why no signal with custom flashed ROMS? Thanks.

Have you been flashing GSM roms? If so i believe this have been caused because of that. Roms that you should flash on your phone should be CDMA only.
I'm not sure. I mean I'm pretty sure they're CDMA roms cause I searched "htc wildfire s virgin mobile cdma custom roms" on Google and found like 5 or 6 roms. I've been trying to get some sense 3.5 roms for it but I've been having problems with no service.
If you go to the Wildfire S Android Development section, there are several active threads for Marvelc phones.
Try:
-[Rom] [Kernel] [Soff] [Many More] Team MarvelUSc which has a ton of stock ROMS and custom ROMs.
-[WFSDEV][AROMA] .sense, a customizable Sense 3.5 ROM for the Wildfire S & Salsa which is a Sense 3.5 ROM with some Marvelc support (some users have reported issues).
-[WIP] [ROM] [AOSPKERNEL] SSCM7 for CDMA Wildfire S which works with bugs with MMS and the camera.
One of those should work for you. These are just some examples of popular threads. There are many, many more ROMs out there.
Thank you. Sorry for being lazy and not looking through all the threads, there are just so many out there and I don't always know exactly where to look. That's why I just made my own topic so I could get some user/dev advice quicker. Also, does Astro File Manager let you change folder permissions such as read/write? I.e. I'm trying to delete the virgin mobile boot animation and it wouldn't let me.
ASTRO does not permit you to change root directories as it does have root privileges.
It is best to use Root Explorer or Root Browser, or something similar.
I use Root Browser and never have any issues and it's free. You can easily change permissions, copy & paste files and folders, etc. I have never personally tried Root Explorer.
Thank you for l the replies. Thought I wouldn't hear anything back for awhile. Gonna download root browser and try that out. Got the playstation one boot logo with sound and wanna try it out but gotta get rid of the vm one first cause its really obnoxious. If anyone has cdma roms or come across any will you post them in this topic so I can try them out?

The internal storage is 150mb all the time unless u use a partition. It's very simple to do, just make sure u copy all your music, pix, etc to a computer before making the partition as this will format your card.

Its very easy. If you don't have anything worth saving on your sd card (or if you do, back it all up on the computer), go to recovery choose advanced then partition sd card. Then it will ask you the size. Choose whatever you want. I chose 1GB just to be on the safe side in case i decide to go app crazy. Then everything else is automatic.
If you want to go further and free up more of your /data partition use the apps2sd app and move dalvik-cache to SD.
What apps2sd program do I use and where can I get it?
If u r using jmz's rom it has the apps2sd GUI app preinstalled. U can use it to move dalvik cache to SD, zipalign on boot, etc, but once u make the partition and install the ROM, your apps will automatically move to your SD partition. No need to do it manually.

Make sure u have cwm 5.0.2.6 if u have a different one u could run
Into problems, also check your hboot. I'm on 1.06 and recommend the same. Also make sure u r clearing dalvik cache, formatting boot, data, system, cache, and SD ext before installing ROM. I would also create a new partition of 512, so it will be a completely clean install. If u have done everything right u will have no problems, if something wrong has happened, most likely it was an error u made and can be fixed.

I partitioned my SD card for 4gb with a 256mb swap (which I don't quite know what that means) I have a 32gb class 10 SD card and I don't even use a 1/3 of the space so I figured I'd partition using the biggest option available. I flashed jmz's rom and everything went okay. I currently have 102mb of internal free by using the link2sd method and I ended up flashing back to the stock vm Tom cause I didn't like how jmz's only had around 56mb free. Is there any way to get more than 56 or is that cause all of the stuff on the rom?
Hello everyone,
This is my first post and my first time rooting and flashing an Android phone. I decided to start with a Sprint HTC Evo 4G because it's an older phone and no longer my primary one.
I extensively browsed the forums and many threads to try and piece together what was needed to accomplish the task.
I ended up following this guide pretty much to the T:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1473373
My HBoot is 2.18, I had a stock Kernel and Stock OS before I attempted anything.
I unlocked the boot loader and then added the AmonRa Recovery.
I could not proceed past step 27 in the tutorial to achieve S-OFF, because the files attached don't seem to exist anymore.
Can someone please post a mirror? Is S-OFF even really necessary? I've read conflicting reports.
In any case, I was able to wipe everything and try out a few roms with mixed success.
Superuser and busybox both confirmed I did have root (or perhaps it is a limited root because I couldn't finish S-OFF)
The Decks Reloaded .500 rom would get stuck in a boot loop, couldn't figure out why.
The Jellybread rom would also get stuck in a boot loop with the "X" animation window.
The third rom I tried managed to work and it was the Thundershock one. But the rom seems to eat battery life and the over-all performance is laggy.
I think it's an issue with the process I did rather than the rom. Maybe I need a newer Kernel?
Could anyone please chime in and perhaps walk me through what I should do next?
Take a look at the thread in the link below. I used it not too long ago to root and S-off two EVO's. S-off isn't a total necessity on this device but it allows you to do things like update your radios (if you have the latest firmware then this is less of an issue). You can flash ROM's and custom kernels without any issue while S-on. Also, keep in mind that S-off and root are two different things altogether, therefore, S-off doesn't mean "full root" (if you want a better explanation, click the top link in my sig and read the section regarding S-off vs. Root. The guide is for the EVO LTE, but the definition of root and S-off is the same). As for issues with installing certain ROM's, check and make sure you got a good download, and you should be using a Amon_Ra based recovery, not ClockWorkMod. This could be part of your issue, as CWM is known for not wiping properly, which could cause issues when flashing.

Thanks!
FinZ28, thank you for taking the time to respond. I made sure I used the Amon_Ra based recovery as that's what the various threads all recommended. I will look into the fact that maybe I received bad data in regards to the two earlier ROMs I tried out.
I know that both of them resulted in a boot loop, even though I did flash as per instructions and made sure to partition my SD card and use ext4.
On that note, they mention always setting swap to 0 and the partition size to 1024.
But, my SD card is only 1GB so 1024.
In order for the SD partition to work and the Amon_Ra recovery to update the file system format, I had to put 0 to swap, 512mb for the partition, and the other 512 "for the rest."
Then I was able to partition and update the file system format from ext2 > ext3 > ext4
Is this the right way to do it? How would you partition a 1GB SD card for certain ROMs that require it?
My first suggestion is to get a larger sdcard. 1 gig is tiny. Although the 512/512 setup you have should be fine for anything needing partitioned sdcard.

Also when you say a bootloop there might be a different thing going on. Depending on the ROM you are using it might have a2sd baked in. For those Roms they boot(loop) two to three times to set everything up. So have you let it loop more than three times?
My evo also gets stuck in bootloop when I try to install the latest thundershock 3.03 rom and can't figure it out

Also when you say a bootloop there might be a different thing going on. Depending on the ROM you are using it might have a2sd baked in. For those Roms they boot(loop) two to three times to set everything up. So have you let it loop more than three times?

I've let it sit for over 30 minutes, and it just sits there frozen. It doesn't reboot on its own or do anything.

Try a fresh download, a full wipe in recovery, and try again. Also see the post above yours regarding A2SD, and make sure you don't have an issue there.

How can I trouble shoot if my issue is in A2SD??
I'm going to try a larger SD card soon and report back.

Look at the OP for whatever ROM you're flashing. See if there is any mention of A2SD, and if so, make sure you have your phone & SD card set up properly.

Wipe!
Like the others have said... Wipe.... wipe....wipe! The AmmonRA recovery does not come with a super duper wipe setting so you may want to download
A nice example can be found here:

That tends to take care of most of the bootloops I have experienced...
