Help Flashing Sense 3.0 Roms - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello I have been having issues flashing any sense 3.0 roms on my phone. Other roms flash perfectly fine including gb roms. I am currently running INfected Inspire 4g and ran Mikfroyo prior to that as well as many more froyo roms. I have a version 002 Evo purchased on launch day. I am fully rooted using Amon Ra's latest recovery. The roms flash perfectly fine but I get an infinite boot loop on the white "HTC Evo 4g" screen. I have tried superwipe and have used it 3x prior to flashing a rom, I have the latest radio, pri etc. I have also tried flashing with a downgraded 1.7 pri. I have "double flashed" the roms. All with no luck. I still get the bootloop. Is there any fix or ideas how to resolve this issue I would really love to use some of the newer GB roms.
Here is a list of Roms that give the bootloop after flashing:
Dominus_Zeta
Virusrom Kingdom Revolution
B.O.S. Kingdom port r2
Misfits speedy port
Virusrom gingersense
Evolved Rom shifted "Get abducted"
There may be one or two more but there are enough there to find a common denominator. If there is any way that this can be fixed I would be greatly appreciative. Also I will be subscribed to this thread and have xda sent to my phone so most of the time I will reply very soon to answer any questions to help solve the issue. A huge thank you in advance to any one willing to offer a helping hand.

i believe you need to partition the sdcard to make enough space for the /system. yes, some /system will be on your sdcard.

boot into recovery, and choose partition sdcard. then choose partition sd. then interactive sd partitioning. choose a size (around 2 gigs is reccomended) and parition.

edit: I partitioned the card and still no luck anymore ideas out there. Should I create an ext. 3 partition?

No luck still...any other suggestions?

I have the same hardware, launch day 0002 hardware, I recently started using Virus Kingdom ROM, the latest version from his website. When I was first messing with it I would have problems with the white EVO screen not going away, I would have to pull the battery and get back into recovery, wipe cache and dalvik and make sure to select shut down phone instead of reboot.
Hope that helps!

Thank you I will try this method.

can you get a logcat from it? if you have adb set up use 'adb logcat > log.txt' and let it run for a minute or two. Then use control+c to stop it (on a pc) and open up the file it created

i think both a log of the flash itself and the infinite loop would be helpful.

Can I use it during the boot loop?? I will do it when I flash virus's rom tonight.

[Q] RA Recovery deleting ext3 files

When I wipe my Dalvik Cache using RA recovery v2.2.2 and reboot my HTC EVO 4G, my apps that I have installed on the ext3 are deleted. If I browse to /system/sd/app folder there are no files.
I have moved my Dalvik cash to the internal storage. Not sure if this make a difference.
When I wipe my Dalvik Cache using Clockworkmod 3.0.05 the ext3 files are not touched.
Does anyone have any ideas why this might be happing?
Stop using sd-ext. It's not needed. You've got an EVO, not a G1.
You might want to try updating your recovery. I'm using what's in my sig, and have apps on a ext3 by way of darktremor's a2sd. Wiping cache/DC doesn't touch the ext3.

+1.....Update your recovery to amon RA v2.3. Wiping cache & dalvik should not be affecting the apparently that are stored on your sd-ext.

Congrats! In case you're wondering, there were actually 4 different v2.3's before the final came out. Buried somewhere in the RA thread is a post describing which of the test versions the final is based on. I vaguely remember it being based on test03. In my own usage, I never had a problem with test04 (which had the larger read ahead cache enabled), so I left it as is. Unlike earlier versions, it does take longer to come up once the recovery banner is visible in the bottom. Not sure if this is the case with the final, but it doesn't bother me, so long that it works!!

Rooted, Messed Up, now Worse...

So I rooted my phone a few days ago, and it was great. Then I decided I wanted to change ROMs. I flashed a ROM that would give me toggle buttons in my notification bar. The upload was taking such a long time, that I realized something was wrong. Then I saw later in the thread it didn't work for Gingerbread. So I went back and flashed the old ROM. Still wouldn't load. Tried everything, still wouldn't load. Then I factory restored.
Then it got stuck in the Sprint 4G, constantly looping making that annoying sound. So then I downloaded a ROM that was supposed be a factory restore since factory restoring didn't seem to work. Now my phone is stuck on the HTC EVO 4G white screen. I'm freaking out, because I really need my phone for business (and an alarm).
It also shows that it was rooted still, so I don't think I could take it in for a replacement tomorrow. Any help, please?
Can you at least get to bootloader!? Volume+power button. Look for the recovery option. If you are in recovery you are good. Download a rom, preferred sense rom,

Okay, I can get into bootloader, I've been working on this for hours. I'm still in S-Off, still stuck on the white HTC EVO 4G screen. I can get into recovery now as well. Used my friends phone with my SD Card to put in a new Recovery image that allowed me to access Recovery again.
Where can I get one of these ROMs? I think my phone still considers itself factory restored. I'm worried there might be missing files and whatnot? Is there anyway to download something that has all the necessary files to install onto my phone via Recovery?

Download a rom on your computer for the EVO 4g Example are MikG v3.0 and Tommytomatoe's Classic v0.0.5. Once its downloaded on the computer, transfer the file to your sdcard. Put sdcard back into phone. Boot into recovery and wipe everything EXCEPT your sdcard 3 times. While in recovery, go to flash zip from sdcard and flash (install) the ROM. You will be good after that.

I believe I am using Amon Ra's. I've been going through different Chrome Tabs, and some of them I've closed by mistake. I'm a little frantic, trying to calm down. I'm downloading a stock ROM and the Warm TwoPointThree mod. Hopefully one of those works.

Just discovered that SDEXT would be a second partition, which I don't have. So I can ignore that. So the question remains, to wipe SDCARD: .android_secure, or not to wipe?
you can wipe sdcard:android_secure Just not SDCARD by its self.

.android_secure is a folder on your SD card. It holds all the apps you have moved to SD.
It only wipes that folder.
Typical wipe is: Data, System, Cache, Dalvik, .android_secure, Boot (Sometimes).
When you flash a new rom, most of that is replaced with the new dataz.
You probably bootlooped your rom in the beginning. Wipe and reflash if that happens again. Sometimes you can get out of bootloops by just wiping the Cache and Dalvik.

[Q] about [ROM] [20/08] Pre-rooted Stock Gingerbread (3.14.405.1) from teppic74

Hello there Dudes!
First i want to send you my compliments for your GREAT and helpfull sites/ forum about all rootings & stuff
A past few Days i had such no idea about rooting etc. You helped me sooo much, i just want to say thank you...
And NOW?!?!
I'm coming from FROYO_2.2.2 with 5.11.xx now i have the OFFICIAL GB 2.3.3 with 5.17.xx
I HAVE ROOT! I HAVE S-OFF!
I have a new Hboot and CWM flashed!!!
Everything works fine.
But I still have problems with the internal Memory. A few aps and im out of space This is why i now had part my sd with des RomManager Tool. 512 to ext and 256 to cache.
But the Stock-Install don't mount the ext.part.
Now i have read, i had to do it BEVORE install ROM. Right? Not a big Problem, but i want to stay Stock as possible. So this ROM seems to be perfekt.
It shouldn't be any problem with GSM/HSDPA/EDGE and all the european NetworkStuff?!?
By the way: Provider is O2 (but i think it doesn't matter)
BUT:
Now I have a little problem to download the file from mirror placed in the entry-post. Is it a fault of my network or did you move the files to another server?
Can you give me an alternate adress?
I can't post in the developer forms.
THX a LOT
PS: Just another little Q i didn't find an answer:
Must a system be installed on the device, to flash a new ROM with an RUU executive? Or will it work too if the Desire in Bootmenu, only?
Hi,
I Didn't need to activate a2sd before installing rom.
I use Cyanogenmod, but i thing it should work on stock rom too.
Search for “darktremor“.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
And you need only the recovery to flash a rom.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Have you installed a2sd addon from Teppic's thread?
SwiftKeyed from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk.
No, I hadn't install the ap2sd from teppic yet, because the downlink seems to be broken too.
But, it doesn't matter. I want to wipe my phone, because of other (i hope) software errors I had on phone since a long time.
For example the international storage have after install the GB update from 2.2 to 2.3 only ~110 to 120 MB free. This can't be right, can it?
So, now I want to try to do a new installation with min 3 wipes/ factory reset before.
This is why the question is: can I install a RUU file over USB, when there is not longer a system on phone? I think I have to make it from Cmw-Recovery with an zip?
So, my greatest wish is. Please give me a funktional downlink to the system of teppic!
Thanks so far!
Edit: now I realized the post from conch
UPDATE:
Plugged in a new 8GB µSD (C4) and partition it with CWM-Recovery to 1024MB ext and 256MB Swap.
This should be enough
Now coming up a new Question. What is the ext-part now of format? ext-2/3/4? I don't have seen any option to change this in recovery? Is the AmonRa better with this? I read, there you can have a format of your choice.
So, now I only have to get the rom of teppic
EDIT: New thinking way...
1. Can the errors be solved by a damaged kernel? The ROM's dosn't inklude Kernel, does it?
How can completely change/erase the Kernel and flash a new one? Like the Same as flash an ROM or Radio?
2. When i flash an lower ROM (2.1/2.2) coming from a newer/higher (like 2.3.3 with Radio_5.17.xx) do i have to change the Radio too? Maybe for an 2.2 the 5.11.xx? Or will 2.2.x & 2.1 also work with an higher Radio (like 5.17.xx)
Thanks a lot!

So far, so good...
I had now installed the Stock GB Rom. From the official developer update RUU.
A few wipes, before install, seems to be cleaned my system. No I have ~125MB free space on phone!
I installed the CWMR 5.0 again and also the SU 3.x from teppic. Everything looks fine and working.
Just again the same little problem that the diskspace for my apps will be totaly full soon... What did the think about this little storage??? Arrrgglll!
Before installing ROM i changed the partition on SD to 1024MB ext-3 without swap.
And noew I have installed the ap2sd from teppic74 too. In recovery, everything looks fine. The install-procedure runs to end and show no errors.
But I still have 125MB and can't find any ap2sd app or something
Do i have to mount the ext-3 in any way, or did I miss something other?
Best regards and many thanks to all the people answered me! And not much less all the people who created this forum!
1) a2sd is not an app but a script. Besides ls I don't think there is a way except observing how your /data partition behaves. Frankly, I think adb is little over your head now. If not, search Droidzone's guide.
2) exactly what are you doing? You have a ruu installed now and you flash a2sd over it, or you installed Teppic's ROM?
SwiftKeyed from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk.
Exactly I installed the developer RUU. Then flash it over adb with the ClockworkMod-Recovery and than install the v3.x SU from teppic with flashing from CWMR. Make new boot to check if SU works. Seems to be fine.
Then installed the ap2sd, from teppic, again with CWMR. Looks fine. But I don't think it was success. Because I've seen a screenshot in another thread, from an HTC desire, where you can see, the phone storage is more than 1GB. But I don't find this post again:/
Now I go on, first install the "Rom Manager".
So pls my friends tell me what I did wrong. Because the great internal storage with ap2sd+ was the main reason to make my phone root.

2. Partition your SD card to 1024, 0 swap
3. Upgrade ext2 to ext3
4. Upgrade ext3 to ext4
5. Flash the ROM

SensuAOSP will NOT boot unless you have a partitioned SDcard.

You'll find it a few pages back in the dev section
In the recovery, youll see an option to partition your sd card, hit it, set swap to 0, and set the SDext size to 1024.. when it finishes, youll see an option to upgrade ext2 to ext3, do that, then select the option upgrade ext3 to ext4.
PARTITIONG YOUR SD WILL DELETE EVERYTHING OFF OF YOUR SDCARD
Do you have any more questions? Also, never apologize. I'm here to help.

Download whichever one, make sure it is smelkusMOD 4.3, and download the one ending with .zip, rename it to PC36IMG, and put it on the root of your SD, boot into the bootloader, and select yes when it asks to update, dont restart the system, then boot into recovery from hboot.
(I wont be replying for another hour or two)

Make sure you didn't rename it PC36IMG.zip.zip that might be why.

SensuAosp Help
Hi,
I rooted & flashed SensuAosp last night...I love it . Thanks for the clear instructions (definitely one of the easier ones ) So its running. But I have one issue. I've searched Google'd and even read through over 156 pages of forum q&a tips tricks etc..
So my problem is that some of the apps (Facebook, Slice It, etc) won't open (error msg & force closes) .
Went to Google play (figured maybe they needed updating) its stuck on downloading but doesn't download ( using WiFi).
I cleared cache, uninstalled play update, cleared service framework, even cleared media storage, & reboot several times.
None of them worked.
My mobile service SPRINT is intentionally disconnected I have an abundance of wifi. Why is this not working?
Here are my specs:
PC36100
Droid Version : 2.3.7
Baseband: 2.15.00.19
Kernel V: [email protected]#1
CPU info :ARM v7Processor rev 2(v71)
Men info: 194MB/414MB
Mod version: SENSUAOSP 2.3
Build Date: Monday/1-21-13
Build Number: Gingerbread
Did you try fixing permissions?

What recovery are you using? If you're using amon ra v. 2.3 it's under the other menu, and called fix uid mismatches. If your using smelkusmod, it's under the other menu, and called fix permissions. If your using clockworkmod it's called fix permissions

[Q] First time rooting/flashing, funny behavior with roms!

Hello everyone,
This is my first post and my first time rooting and flashing an Android phone. I decided to start with a Sprint HTC Evo 4G because it's an older phone and no longer my primary one.
I extensively browsed the forums and many threads to try and piece together what was needed to accomplish the task.
I ended up following this guide pretty much to the T:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1473373
My HBoot is 2.18, I had a stock Kernel and Stock OS before I attempted anything.
I unlocked the boot loader and then added the AmonRa Recovery.
I could not proceed past step 27 in the tutorial to achieve S-OFF, because the files attached don't seem to exist anymore.
Can someone please post a mirror? Is S-OFF even really necessary? I've read conflicting reports.
In any case, I was able to wipe everything and try out a few roms with mixed success.
Superuser and busybox both confirmed I did have root (or perhaps it is a limited root because I couldn't finish S-OFF)
The Decks Reloaded .500 rom would get stuck in a boot loop, couldn't figure out why.
The Jellybread rom would also get stuck in a boot loop with the "X" animation window.
The third rom I tried managed to work and it was the Thundershock one. But the rom seems to eat battery life and the over-all performance is laggy.
I think it's an issue with the process I did rather than the rom. Maybe I need a newer Kernel?
Could anyone please chime in and perhaps walk me through what I should do next?
Take a look at the thread in the link below. I used it not too long ago to root and S-off two EVO's. S-off isn't a total necessity on this device but it allows you to do things like update your radios (if you have the latest firmware then this is less of an issue). You can flash ROM's and custom kernels without any issue while S-on. Also, keep in mind that S-off and root are two different things altogether, therefore, S-off doesn't mean "full root" (if you want a better explanation, click the top link in my sig and read the section regarding S-off vs. Root. The guide is for the EVO LTE, but the definition of root and S-off is the same). As for issues with installing certain ROM's, check and make sure you got a good download, and you should be using a Amon_Ra based recovery, not ClockWorkMod. This could be part of your issue, as CWM is known for not wiping properly, which could cause issues when flashing.

Thanks!
FinZ28, thank you for taking the time to respond. I made sure I used the Amon_Ra based recovery as that's what the various threads all recommended. I will look into the fact that maybe I received bad data in regards to the two earlier ROMs I tried out.
I know that both of them resulted in a boot loop, even though I did flash as per instructions and made sure to partition my SD card and use ext4.
On that note, they mention always setting swap to 0 and the partition size to 1024.
But, my SD card is only 1GB so 1024.
In order for the SD partition to work and the Amon_Ra recovery to update the file system format, I had to put 0 to swap, 512mb for the partition, and the other 512 "for the rest."
Then I was able to partition and update the file system format from ext2 > ext3 > ext4
Is this the right way to do it? How would you partition a 1GB SD card for certain ROMs that require it?
My first suggestion is to get a larger sdcard. 1 gig is tiny. Although the 512/512 setup you have should be fine for anything needing partitioned sdcard.

Also when you say a bootloop there might be a different thing going on. Depending on the ROM you are using it might have a2sd baked in. For those Roms they boot(loop) two to three times to set everything up. So have you let it loop more than three times?
My evo also gets stuck in bootloop when I try to install the latest thundershock 3.03 rom and can't figure it out

Try a fresh download, a full wipe in recovery, and try again. Also see the post above yours regarding A2SD, and make sure you don't have an issue there.

I've let it sit for over 30 minutes, and it just sits there frozen. It doesn't reboot on its own or do anything.

How can I trouble shoot if my issue is in A2SD??
I'm going to try a larger SD card soon and report back.

Look at the OP for whatever ROM you're flashing. See if there is any mention of A2SD, and if so, make sure you have your phone & SD card set up properly.

Wipe!
Like the others have said... Wipe.... wipe....wipe! The AmmonRA recovery does not come with a super duper wipe setting so you may want to download
A nice example can be found here:
http://www.android-hilfe.de/root-ha...pe-wipe-zip-dhd-unterstuetzung-fuer-ext4.html
That tends to take care of most of the bootloops I have experienced...
