[Q] National roaming on Bulletproof MIUI? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

as the titles says, is there any way to turn on national roaming on Bulletproof MIUI?
Thanks

I have this option on my rom (meXDroid), and I don't even know what National Roaming is! So I turn it off xD

Haha i didn't know either until i needed it xD is your rom a mexican version of MIUI?

I'm using meXdroid. What DOES it do anyway?? I just keep it off..the word ROAM scares the crap out of me, roaming charges and all...

i thought that too! but it's just an option that makes data enabled on a carriers "borrowed" cell towers. my carrier (3 Denmark) has only 3g cell towers, so they need to borrow towers from other carriers, when there's a poor reception. that means when im in my home country and i get out of range from the 3g towers, i can't use data (i think you understand my problem) that's why i need it

That's what I thought at first, but couldn't find anything on it on Google. I guess I'll turn it on then haha...

Never in my life heard of "national roaming" but you can turn on ROAMING. Settings, system, mobile network, press roaming.
Just beware you do get charged for roaming, and its usually a decent amount of scratch.

you are completely right that i am going to be charged if i turn on roaming and leaves the country! but it's actually really important for me to turn on national roaming, otherwise my mobilephone thinks im roaming in my home country, in low reception areas. it's a little thing called MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) and it works just as i stated above

bump. anyone?

I told you how. If that doesn't work there is no other way of doing it

All you have to do is turn on Data Roaming in Wireless & Network Settings
I did this yesterday, thought it would be good. Seen no difference, not a thing so far!
Anyone know how to keep an eye on if I'm on T-Mobile or Orange cell towers??
Also when you enable "Data Roaming in Wireless & Network Settings" there is a rather nasty warning about potentially incurring charges from other operators, could it hop me over onto other providers without me knowing and getting me cross-network charging? (I'll admit I don't really understand the roaming part of this)
couple of issues with this:
1) 2G roaming only until 2011
2) Orange cell will only be selected if their is zero tmobile coverage. Auto selecting best cell site for signal strength will be next year.
In other words, this is a very basic roaming service.
You can force orange service but then you will only get 2G
i did this yesterday, will be better when HSDPA is added.
At the moment, until sometime in 2011 you will only use the "other" network when you lose your existing signal completely.
In 2011 it will just give you whatever is strongest, but at the moment you have to completely lose all your existing signal.
And it only shares 2g at the moment, so you will not be able to get better 3g signals.
but still useful for those times when you do in fact lose signal or your signal is low.
and if you sign up now then you'll be ready for 2011
First quarter is when 3g/Hsdpa roaming will be enabled.
You can manually select either network at the minute tho

One benefit is lower power after it locks on to an Orange signal when having lost the T-Mobile signal. Otherwise, mine would be stuck with high power drain searching, checking, verifying and registering to the T-Mobile network consecutively. I definitely now have 1-3 bars with Orange when I had 0 priorly. Very happy at the move.

Maybe change the title to include Orange users too?

Yes, it will be called Everything Everywhere but if you're on T-mo and sign up for this, the network will appear as "T-mobile Orange" when you're "roaming" on the Orange network. I think for Orange customers "roaming" on the T-mo network it shows as "Orange T-mobile"

The networks aren't merging, they'll still be seen as two seperate companies under the parent "Everything Everywhere" company AFAIK.
Also, anyone else noticed the damn Content Lock problem? :/
I stand corrected.. twice.

Their project is called Everything Everywhere, but the network that you connect to when yours has lost signal is Orange T-Mobile (and vice versa)
Edit. Nvm, didn't see someone already said this

This looks really good.
I never got a T-Mobile signal inside our local supermarket, but now got a full 4 bars under 'Orange T-Mobile'... and as soon as back home, Im back to T-Mobile again. Cool!
I sent the text to have this set up on my iPhone. To get this to work on my desire I will just need to turn on roaming and aromatic network selection won't i?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
well orange sent me a text the other day to tell me my phone switched over to the t-mobile network for the first time...
after breaking in to a cold sweat and holding on to the nearest fixed object rather tightly, waiting for aliens to land, or the world to end...
I deleted the text and life went on as normal lol
I have just set up my phone! Hopefully this should improve Orange's poor coverage

Why won't phone choose strongest signal?

I have flashed several roms, radios, and kernels to this phone and none of them will roam. Not even stock out of the box. I also have a photon and I can be in a location with little to no sprint service and the photon will roam on cdma with full bars but the epic touch wont leave sprint to roam. Db never makes it above -100. I don't even know where to begin. I have tried forcing roam, but nothing. I have went through all the settings for network and mobile data/voice every option I could think of and the phone is still stuck on sprint

I agree.. Ive also tried the same.. Roam control is a joke to me ..
So you both have attempted to use Roam Control but to no avail. What is it exactly about Roam Control that isn't working for you two?

For me whenever roaming control is on, it never really activates roaming and if it does the signal still is bad when the person next to me on verizon and or tmobile has all 5 bars.. So either roam control doesnt turn on fully or it doesnt want to connect to better outside network towers ??
roam control doesn't work in all areas with Sammy phones. Frequency for roaming is different. Roam control site explains it better than me.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
Btw roam control dies work. The problem is the prl. If you are using a normal pro it will only roam on 1x. You need a business prl like from korey's thread.
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
Also, Sprint prl's will use VZW for roaming as a last resort.
Download Net Monitor and check to see who you are actually roaming on.
What PRL and what location are you at?

Yep, that is the problem that I see most people having. They download a pirated copy of the app and wonder why its not working. The developer has implemented something to disable the roaming function with pirated versions. To use Roam Control to its full potential, either buy the app or go on a hunt for version 1.4.
I have the same problem.....p***es Me off,but im trying different modems, hopefully I get better signal or I might just try flashing my phone to boost or cellcom

Are you sure that you are actually switching over to roaming? Do you see a small triangle next to the signal bars.
First off, your never going to roam on T-mobile since they're GSM.
Samsung phones have a "bug" where they cannot roam on the cellular band; they will only roam on the PCS band. Your friend on Verizon is probably connected to a strong cellular band signal and when you force roam your connecting to a crappy PCS signal.
I have a paid version of the app. On my photon which is a sprint phone will roam perfect. Tested the app on that phone and it made no difference, the phone already roams like its supposed to. Same house the epic touch won't leave sprints network. I can barely hold one bar with every roam setting in thx phone turned on. I installed roam control again from the market onto this phone and even the app can't get it to roam. Still 3G at one or no bars on sprint network. Also what are these prls I keep reading about on all these roms. I know I could search the forums and find an explanation on what they are how to change and whatnot but are these codes that important? And would that effect the phones roaming and signal strength? Because even with the photon not roaming and using sprints network I can hold a steady 2 or more bars but with a sucky data speed

I'm in the same boat when in a dead zone it's a crap shoot whether the phone will roam or not

[Q] Roaming issues

My girlfriend and I have the exact same Epic Touch purchased at the same time from Amazon. Since we began our contract, When we travel to the Eastern suburbs her phone switches to roaming (data) until we travel West back towards Sacramento. Mine has no issues whatsoever.
I have checked the service maps on Sprint.com and they indicate strong 3G service for voice and data in the area that her phone switches to roaming.
Anyone have any similar experiences?
assuming that both phones have updated prl's, its possible that one phone may have roaming guard on while the other doesn't. Sounds like the roaming phone may be hitting a dead zone and staying on stronger roaming signal.
Make sure u turn roaming off. I used to just be switched to roaming in places I could get 4g but then after I disable roaming I got good sprint signal

Does turning off roaming affect just data, Voice or both?

"Roaming"?

I got my Sprint GS3 a few days ago, and noticed even before I rooted and flashed FreeGS3 that my phone occasionally warns me that I'm roaming (and displays a small triangle by its signal bars) when I'm in certain parts of my house that have bad cell service. Is this some kind of bug or am I going to be charged for roaming?? If it's the latter can someone confirm exactly which boxes to check under Roaming to simply deny me cell service rather than have me get charged extra for accessing a separate network?
Thanks!
EDIT: I guess if I change "Roaming network" to "Sprint only" it won't let the phone roam. The follow-up question is still then whether or not domestic roaming costs anything and if not whether or not there's a reason to keep it off.
Domestic roaming is included in your plan. They will not charge you for any data or voice you use during roaming. However, if you use excessive roaming data or minutes, sprint will boot you off their network. By the way, when you roam, you're connected to Verizon's network.

As mentioned, you can roam at no extra cost... but the "roaming alert" does get really obnoxious. I have several dead zones inside my house and I hate when the notification pops up, particularly if I'm on wi-fi and not even doing anything on the phone that would use the cellular network.

Ah alright. I was messing with the Roaming settings to try and get the roaming alert thing to stop bothering me but I couldn't figure it out. I had domestic roaming guard off, network set to automatic, and the domestic roaming boxes checked for voice and data. Anything else I should be doing?

Bug the hell out of sprint... Why should any of us be "roaming" So much to begin with. Seriously, I would (and I personally have done this) call them and complain about how much roaming you "do"... That way you are on record whenever their roaming dept. calls you to bust your chops about roaming data usage. Just my 2 cents...

International raoming warning popping up in New York

Im in New York State and sometimes I will start roaming and if I go to send a message it will say you are international roaming, additional charges apply. Then it gives me a choice to send anyway, cancel, and resend when in a domestic network or something like that. Why does the phone think I am international roaming? I had this same issue on my old Samsung Moment and i was charged some crazy price that sprint ended up removing. But how am i international roaming? I have roaming set to automatic because where i work i go in and out of sprints towers. Under Roaming settings I have international voice and data unchecked. I was also getting this message when I would try to use data.
Anyone have any clue?
Upstate new york? Like rochester? It must think your in canada or something. Or Maybe the towers your roaming to are under canadian license.
Yupp exactly rochester!!! I remeber when I had the Samsung Moment the GPS in that phone was aweful and had me in some place in chine when I would open maps. Not sure how I could be roaming in a canadian tower unless its coming over lake ontario which in my case would be well over 50 miles lol
I get this all the time too, and no, I'm no where near a border. Also, I cannot roam - data stays off, and voice calls go straight to Verizon saying I can't use their network unless I pay.
I was getting this in Virginia yesterday. Last time I checked, Virginia was nowhere near any international cell towers.

i think sprint is having trouble with its towers..somehow verizon knows this and they are trying to bilk people however they can..i asked a sprint manager today why verizon is asking me for a CC# to complete local roaming calls...the manager said they weren't sure what was going on...
I was internationally roaming in long island ny.

I got the international roaming warning near St. Louis.
C'mon, man!
Hope I don't see some huge charge for the text I sent to my wife!
I am getting these constantly in the SF Bay Area. I think it relates to LTE rollout and testing because I'm constantly switching from 3G to 4G and I get these warnings whenever that switch happens. Turning off 4G (which isn't launched here yet anyway) makes them stop.

My 4G is always off and it still happened. I live on a very unpopulated Island called "Long Island" so there is no reason to turn it on anytime soon.
