International raoming warning popping up in New York - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

Im in New York State and sometimes I will start roaming and if I go to send a message it will say you are international roaming, additional charges apply. Then it gives me a choice to send anyway, cancel, and resend when in a domestic network or something like that. Why does the phone think I am international roaming? I had this same issue on my old Samsung Moment and i was charged some crazy price that sprint ended up removing. But how am i international roaming? I have roaming set to automatic because where i work i go in and out of sprints towers. Under Roaming settings I have international voice and data unchecked. I was also getting this message when I would try to use data.
Anyone have any clue?

Upstate new york? Like rochester? It must think your in canada or something. Or Maybe the towers your roaming to are under canadian license.

Yupp exactly rochester!!! I remeber when I had the Samsung Moment the GPS in that phone was aweful and had me in some place in chine when I would open maps. Not sure how I could be roaming in a canadian tower unless its coming over lake ontario which in my case would be well over 50 miles lol

I get this all the time too, and no, I'm no where near a border. Also, I cannot roam - data stays off, and voice calls go straight to Verizon saying I can't use their network unless I pay.

I was getting this in Virginia yesterday. Last time I checked, Virginia was nowhere near any international cell towers.

i think sprint is having trouble with its towers..somehow verizon knows this and they are trying to bilk people however they can..i asked a sprint manager today why verizon is asking me for a CC# to complete local roaming calls...the manager said they weren't sure what was going on...

I was internationally roaming in long island ny.

I got the international roaming warning near St. Louis.
C'mon, man!
Hope I don't see some huge charge for the text I sent to my wife!

I am getting these constantly in the SF Bay Area. I think it relates to LTE rollout and testing because I'm constantly switching from 3G to 4G and I get these warnings whenever that switch happens. Turning off 4G (which isn't launched here yet anyway) makes them stop.

My 4G is always off and it still happened. I live on a very unpopulated Island called "Long Island" so there is no reason to turn it on anytime soon.

I just moved back to Gainesville and to my surprise I now have 4G coverage where I live... Amazing!
And it's super fast... Compared to 3G at least. I also want to note that I now have full service everywhere. I think Network Vision has been started here!

where exactly in gainesville because i live in gainesville also and have several sprint 4g devices and have never gotten a signal not to mention if you check the coverage maps nothing even close to gainesville has it closest place is jacksonville by what the map shows
Network Vision sounds interesting, I just googled it for the first time. Any idea if LTE is a part of that plan?

It's a major part of the plan. By the end of 2013 the goal is for all Sprint towers to have LTE.

Previously there was 2 towers I knew about in Gainesville that had WiMax turned on for preliminary testing. One of these is near Shands.
Don't be fooled by the Sprint coverage maps, they don't include anything unofficial. If you want to see Sprint's 4G coverage go here: http://www.clear.com/coverage
You'll see where the towers are in Gainesville, but that coverage map is very unrealistic, but it's true. You'll get 4G somewhere in that area, but not that large of a coverage area.

It is expanding, or at least has been ever so slightly...
I've noticed it in Phoenix... we aren't an official wimax coverage area, but there are spots around the metro valley where you can get 4G now that you couldn't before, and Clearwire has been updating their maps to reflect the added coverage over the past few months.
Who knows how long it will go on though...?
No these are real towers. There is a tower right near Shands here

This is incorrect; If you are getting a signal, your devices should be able to connect. It's more likely you just aren't getting a good signal where you are located.

Clearwire is sprints only 4G network. Sprint does not maintain its 4G network. It is 100% Clearwire.

I agree, sprint is not expanding wimax, but Clearwater is. They still have the home Internet marketing. Wimax is still faster than dsl and cheaper than cable.
Edit: clearwire(clear) not Clearwater. Stupid autocorrect.

Wimax is still expanding, but only with minor additions at Clearwire's convenience and to maintain spectrum licenses with the FCC. Its main priority to stay cash-positive and built an LTE network to supplement Sprint. Hopefully, Clearwire can find some big investors/partners to help with funding/buildout.

Yes, in order to stay an official nationwide carrier Clearwire has to cover a certain amount of people. Every year it increases. By 2013 every nationwide carrier must have a nationwide 4G network that covers a minimum amount of people

It isn't going to cripple their NV plan at all. They are building out their LTE network SEPARATE of Clear or Lightsquared. The Lightsquared deal was going to give Lightsquared towers to bounce off of. Why do you think Lightsquared was going to end up paying Sprint and not the other way around?

I was more referring to the fiscal side of things. I don't think Sprint is going to be able to keep the portion of the deal they believe they are going to. Not talking about build out.

Where I live, the only Wimax is within 3 blocks of an official Sprint store. Imagine that. The rest of the area is covered by regular 3G with full bars but unfortunately at 1X speeds. Some days I would get better performance by turning off 3G, I never thought that was possible.
I'm currently enjoying Verizon's fine 3G with hopes that Sprint's first threatening letter will arrive soon. The local towers are do for an upgrade within 6 months, I wonder if better bandwidth or my termination notice will arrive first.

Wrong. Sprintt does in fact have LTE towers up & running in small towns/cities with ABSOLUTELY no mention of it or any future plans of LTE on their websites or elsewhere. It's a proven fact and I can prove it. Does this mean your about to have LTE in your town? No. Is it likely? Absolutely yes. I live in a very small low economic status town where you'd think it would be the last place to get LTE but I have LTE and also wimax. How is this possible? I have no idea but its true and im happy. No corporate Sprint store or customer service has any record of LTE or wimax in my town, but I do have both. Its a miracle if you ask me. I hope this makes you feel better and will help you regain your faith in Sprint because Sprint is definitely working on towers and upgrades everywhere. No bs, its really happening so be patient folks.
I've read that small towns have gotten LTE because it's quicker and easier to update the towers and to test the network. I wondered the same thing. I can't remember the article, but I'm sure Google can find it. It makes a little sense.

Sprint will tell you anything. Most of it is crap.
Sprint's ultimate plan (believe it or not) is to have their 4G footprint be the same as their 3G footprint.
Part of the tower upgrades is making their towers accept network "cards" that will be "easily" swappable and expandable. Once the tower upgrade is complete, they will, in theory, simply need to pop in a 4G card and you will have 4G. (Yes, I realize it's a little more complicated than that... buts its the basic premise they are working on).
This will also allow them to swap in any new technologies in the future without having to completely overhaul the tower.
And, as a previous poster said, it makes sense for small one and two tower areas to be upgraded first, since it is clearly more cost-effective.
Although if I were Sprint, I would include these communities in the current 4G coverage map. It certainly would look better to see "75 4G markets" as opposed to the 20 that it looks like right now.
For the record I stopped roaming and my speeds results have been inconsistent this last ýeare that I dont kknow-how to compare

International Roaming Area??

Hey All,
After much debate, I am the proud owner of a GN2. The thing is awesome and the size does not bother me at all.
However, I am having a strange issue. I work in a building that causes my phone to roam. When I send a text I get the following message:
"You are in an international roaming area. You may incur charges for SMS. Select an option:
-Auto send when in a Domestic coverage area
-Send Now
-Save as a draft message."
I have talked to a Sprint Tech. He confirmed that I am not being charged for sending text messages internationally. However, after updating PRL, Profile, I still get the message. Any ideas?
Thanks, Tony

I am having the same issue with my Samsung Galaxy Note II. I bought it on Dec 9th and swapped it out at the sprint store last night for another one since they were assuming that the first one had an antennae issue. The replacement is doing the same exact thing however the signal strength increased.
I contacted Sprint customer service numerous times since I got it on the 9th. I still haven't had any helpful information given to me.
Yesterday while I was on the phone with customer service, I was told that since Pennsylvania is kind of close to the Canadian border and that's why I'm internationally roaming........I'm confused...because I'm not close to Canada.
Has anyone had any luck on finding some useful/helpful information regarding this problem?

I'm having the exact same problem on my brand new (as of 12/16/2012) Note 2, but I'm in NE FLORIDA -- unless Sprint considers Georgia to be a foreign country, then I'm no where near any international border. I haven't received a solution yet, but just letting you know that it can actually be more ridiculous than what some of you are experiencing who are remotely close to Canada. I mean, what? Am I roaming on Castro's cellular network? Bermuda Triangle magnetic field?
in nyc its affecting me as well for nearly 2 months and 3 different note 2s, but no effects on my S1 S2 S3 or OG Evo
It happened to me yesterday. I think it just has something to do with the way Samsungs roaming setting is coded. I was in Pacific Grove (Monterey Bay) at our hotel near the beach. I had a weak roaming signal and when I sent a text it said it was international. It asked if I wanted to send it, as I would get charged etc.
Sent from my Galaxy Note II using XDA Premium.
i get the same thing in the south bay, ca. i am now able to "international roam" inside buildings that my epic would loose all service in. whatever the issue is for the incorrect labeling on roaming, it shows up on my bill as roaming. i worry if they do fix this particular issue that i might loose roaming inside some buildings as opposed to when i would have no service at all.
Just a thought... Do any of you guys have OpenSignalMaps or an app like that?
Makes me wonder if you're connecting to GSM (ATT) and that's thinking it's international....
solution: (if someone want to fix that)
change from true to false or add that line in file feature.xml its locatet on root \system\csc\feature.xml
<CscFeature_Message_EnableRoamGuard>false</CscFeature_Message_EnableRoamGuard>
or download csc features expert apk and change
Enable Roam Guard

Well the technology you're 'on' isn't outdated and if the tmobile rep says that shouldn't be the case probably means that there's some other issue. And do you usually have bad service? I probably wouldn't change service since it's poor in an area your visiting temporarily... If it's not bad service where you usually live... I got only EDGE while visiting my dad. My reaction was to be stoked because I expected only GPRS or nothing at all. It's not like I'm there very often - it doesn't really matter. Even if he lived a few miles over in the "major city" nearby, it's not like I'm there for a significant portion of my life. That'd be like cancelling my service if it was crap when I was visiting my grandparents in Massachusetts - I'm there.. what, a week a year ? Whoopee. Unless you're in college and visiting this family for months at a time... what's the big deal ?
And paying $100/mo on T-Mobile ? Why ? How ? I went with T-Mobile because I DIDN'T want that kind of ridiculous bill - and because they specifically offer plans that aren't that high.
They have an unlimited everything pre-paid for $70/mo - still lower than others. I'm on the $30/mo pre-paid plan.
Yeah, tmos coverage is pretty spotty. At my house I'll randomly switch from fast 4g to 2g, even if i didnt move the phone.
Pay the extra loot and switch to Verizon if you want epic signal.

Yesterday i went to upstate new york and mistakenly i forget to put gps on my car so i had to be dependent on phone gps BUT BUT there was no 4g at all. Not even full Edge. My friend has att and he had two bars of 4G LTE but my network was making me feel like ****.
I wish i can cancel it but have 4 lines in order to get new phones
T-Mobile has pretty spotty coverage outside of urban areas, whenever I go on a road trip I spend most of it on edge.

Ok cool so its not just me from what it sounds like. Now I know why t mobile is losing a lot of there post paid accounts most likely from there spotty network
I came from 2 years on att to simple mobile but I can speak on the t mobile signal quality. Compared to att, it should be known that t mobile service is a heck more spotty than others and your data will suffer big time. I went to the middle of no where a few months back with a friend that had att, I had 1 bar and edge in an open field while he had 2 bars with hspa+. He didn't have an lte phone at the time but from experience, att has better coverage. In the same areas t mobile is said to have good coverage and truthfully, although t mobile will roll out lte, I doubt it will be as good. I searched for their new towers, and they have over 10 new ones in Manhattan all clustered up so yeah, t mobile has the best coverage in the ny central park region. Going back to att when I get a job and am able to pay for my own cell. For the time being, simply mobile works good. T mobile will be getting better and better through the years

LMAO @ OP... Cancel service because one time you traveled out of Colorado you don't get 4g??? I mean, if u went to Philly often u would have known this already I'm sure, so its apparent u don't travel to Philly often.
Was a thread really needed? Think if everyone that traveled to an edge location complained and threatened to leave their provider on an internet forum... LOL do whatever u want dude... we really don't care.
Hope u can find enough signal in Philly to read the threads comments

Sorry but I like things to work when I pay 500 out of pocket for a phone. Your phone should be running tip top in every major city no reason for this in 2013. Do some research about t mobile they lost a good bit of post paid customers so Im not the only one that thinks their trash. Their also one of the 3rd most hated companies in the US. I follow them on google plus if anyone needs some citations.
How can you be one of the 3rd? Arent you either 3rd or you are not?
If i helped hit thanks
Whatever have fun with your trash network.
you're your, there their there one of the third? Weigh it for what it's worth......
Good riddance, go pay more for the same service on VZW like all the other dummies, more bandwidth for me, not that I'm lacking any here
