If you have any questions I will answer them for you, but I will try to explain it as simple as I can.
When was your last upgrade used? If it was used before March 31st 2010 you should not lose the upgrade as you've already reached the 1 year mark. The system could change it, at which point you'd have to call and ask them to reset it, in a very kindly manner because they can say no.
If it was used after March 31st, you will lose it unless you've been with Sprint for 10 years or more, or you are on one of the new plans that still qualify you for yearly upgrades: $89.99 or higher for individual plans and $169.99 for family plans.
If you've been with Sprint 10+ years you will never lose the yearly upgrades (unless Sprint completely scraps the program). Same thing goes if you are on one of the plans I mentioned above.
If you're confused, let me know.
umm i just spoke to a rep and she said that i'm elgible for an upgrade on july 1 2011. and i'm only on the 69.99 and only been with sprint for a year. did she lie?

Ok, so I upgraded june 4th 2010 when I got my evo. So I will not get my upgrade this june? I was told I didn't have to worry this year? I really hope I am understanding this wrong.

Not necessarily, but come April 1st the program changes so your upgrade would be removed from July 1st 2011 to May 2012 as you're not meeting the newer qualifications to give you 1 year upgrades.
Okay:
3 Lines
Switched to Sprint / Contract started the day the evo launched
Currently have $150 dollar discounts x 3 - Says they were available the 1st of the month, but have been there since December.
Going to loose them or not, and if so, when - what do I have to do to get them back?

Correct, because the program changes and the price plan you have to meet to qualify you for year upgrades go up. Unless you switch to a qualifying plan, you will not qualify June 4th 2010. You would have to call back in June and ask for an upgrade reset.

This is an odd scenario, you switched all 3 lines June 2010? If so, how are all 3 lines qualifying for full upgrade? Only your main line would. Did you buy your Evo on the street or at full price? It could also be a system error that shows you qualify on all 3 lines instead of just the main line, in this case there's a 50/50 chance the system will not kick your upgrade once they do the sweep April 1st.

Ha, that's why I posted it...it hasn't remotely matched anybody else's scenario.
We switched from att to sprint (never been with sprint before) in June....maybe it is a system error!
I called and asked and the Guy said that all 3 qualified for $150 discounts.

Then in April you will qualify for yearly upgrades.
On April 1, can Evo owners call in to have their upgrade for this year reset, to potentially get a Nexus or Evo 3D?

No, as your upgrade would not have been due until June (assuming you upgraded in June)
I last upgraded Dec 2009, so I have been sitting on my 1 year premiere upgrade for a few months. I won't lose it April 1 and be stuck with the $75 off upgrade until I hit 22 months will I?

No, the system will change it automatically but you can call to have them reset it.
Last year I used an upgrade on another line on my account. Purchased it from radio shack, activated on the other line then went home called sprint and had the evo activated on my line.think I could get away with this again? I really would like the new evo and give this one to my brother but need to use his upgrade since he is the primary for some reason and gets the yearly upgrade.

Yes, this is common practice - to use another lines upgrade and switch the phone to whatever line you want.
What I really meant is that will I run into any issues when June 1st hits and I want to reset my upgrade to this year?

No, it has to be $169.99 base price plan, nothing added and the $10 premium charge doesn't count either
Ok I will have been with Sprint for 10 years on July 4th of this year and I will become a Premier Gold customer, now normally every July (last year I got my EVO July 10th) I can upgrade my phone.
So my question is will I automatically be eligible for my Premier Gold upgrade ($150 off) come July 10th since I have already done a year of my contract. Or will I have to wait until NEXT July to upgrade?
You should be able to even if your only eligible for the $75 off you can talk to someone at sprint and they can push a full upgrade through they did that for me last year for the og evo 4g
I found out today also about the the year deal. We have been with sprint for nine years. Pretty cool I guess.
You should be eligible for a full one this July. If not, just call sprint. Ask them about the ten year thing and ask them to describe in detail. Then ask about the new premier tiers and how they differ from old way. Be nice. Today, I was able to move from next November to this November. They will not mind doing the tier override if it is close to one year.
But I think in your case, you will have a compelling case. Just tell them about your loyalty to sprint and they will be happy to give you eligibility.

If your 10 year anniversary is July 4th you can upgrade on Aug 4th (if you are not already eligible). You have to wait 1 billing cycle for it to show up.

Ok that sucks hopefully I can get them to give me it in July. If not I'm gonna use my dads upgrade for my self and when he wants to upgrade he can use mine. I'm giving him my EVO 4G when I get the E3D so he wont need to upgrade for a while anyway.
But thanks for the info guys!
I have a Droid Incredible that I got probably a week or two after the release date (somewhere around May 2010). So my 2-year contract ends around the first or second week of May of 2012. My Dinc is pretty much dead, lots of problems with it now and I need to replace it before May. I was wondering if anyone in a similar circumstance (or anyone who knows) can give me an estimate on how much it will cost to upgrade to the GNex tomorrow? I also have a employer discount of 20% monthly and 25% on accessories (if that has any effect).
Also, in case it matters, my name isn't set as the owner of the Family Plan that I am on but I do have the main line that the Plan is attached two (the other two lines on the family plan are the added lines). Not sure if I need to get him to come with me (we live 2 hours apart) or if getting him on the phone/knowing his SSN would be enough to allow me to upgrade. I will be paying for it in cash so I don't need to charge it to the monthly phone bill.
Thanks,
Steven
I don't believe you can get an early upgrade until 20 months into your contract.. so you would have to wait until January to get it for $299.. Otherwise it will most likely be $649 off contract if you really can't wait..
That would really suck considering it is only like $150 for the ETA. They can't let me pay the $150+300 for the phone? I guess I can wait until mid January but my phone sometimes goes days where it reboots every 10-15 minutes plus even with the extended battery it can be 10% by like 1pm (used to last 2 full days easily). Some days it is virtually impossible to use and I just leave it at home. (sorry for ranting, lol)

Haha no worries, I was in this position before my Nexus with my original Droid
You can certainly try, it depends on who you talk to really.. if you talk to someone who is having a particularly good day that has enough authority (I'm assuming a store manager could do this) then you might be able to get it a month early, who knows.. worth a shot. Goodluck
I have a Droid Incredible and Verizon shows I am eligible to upgrade. I had already planned on upgrading to the Nexus but I accidentally killed my phone over a month ago which made me even more anxious.
I don't think I upgraded to the Incredible right away (at release) but I might have. Still only a two week difference and I was eligible to upgrade (with a renewed contract) back in November for sure.

I got my OG Droid a week before the dInc came out, and I was eligible on 12/3... so those of you who bought a dinc day of, or really early on, may be eligible right now or very very soon.
That being said I spoke to a guy who got me my Rezound a day early (I returned it because it was bad, 2 of em) because I was going out of state and I just went about it not expecting them to help me but asking kindly for some help because my OG Droid's headphone jack is all but shot and I use it to listen to music in my car.
Dont know if it will work, but only a manager can force the system to let you get an upgrade early. Worth a shot, just dont get your hopes up. Good luck.
Edit: I just read about the not being the primary / authorized person on the account to make changes, you may run into a lot of road blocks. You may have to have the account owner call up Verizon and see if there is anything they can do to get you authorized to make changes. Even though you aren't charging the phone to the account. If you are paying the subsidized price for the device you are infact signing a contract that binds that line up for a set amount of time. (2 years most likely)
don't let the responses discourage you. I signec a 2 year this past march & got the thunderbolt. in october, the thunderbolt started having some "big" issues & I wasn't paying for insurance so decided to call 611 for the hell of it and see if they'd do anything for me.
they ended up offering me an early upgrade!
which I eventually used for the rezound and exchanging tomorrow.
definitely call them & see what they can do. I wouldn't bother going to a store as they'd just tell you to call anyway.
Early Upgrade
If you signed a "New Every 2" plan before Jan 2011, you should be able to upgrade your phone after 12months. VZ will tell you that's there's a $20 charge for upgrading early. This is an optional charge. I upgraded from my OG Droid (bought 11/09) 13months later to the Droid X on 12/1/10. Charged the extra $20 bucks. I signed a new 2 year contract (ne2). I just upgraded to the Droid RAZR on 12/3/11. When I upgraded to the RAZR, they waived the $20 charge.
After Jan/2011 VZW did away with the NE2 plans and now enforce the 20month upgrade discount policy. Now I'm not sure how this affects you when you are not the primary on the account. But I would at least look into it. Also if you go through multiple phones, talking to Customer Relations not service might help you get an early upgrade for repeat problem phones.
I tried Amazon Wireless and it said I wasn't eligible, so then I tried LetsTalk. They said I am not eligable until 1/4/12 so that is only 20 days from now. I am going to call Verizon this evening or tomorrow and see if I can get them to bump it up less than a month so I can purchase it earlier, otherwise I guess I can wait until January 4th.
It also said I can order it now and they will hold it for me until the fourth. LetsTalk's price is $174.99 for me to upgrade so I may order it now to lock in that sale price, though it would suck if they or somewhere else got a better deal by then. Hmm, decisions..
I emailed Verizon last week and they just called me back and left a voicemail saying they will let me get my upgrade early! I have to call the specific person back and I hope she will enable my upgrade not just force me to buy it through her (Verizon) instead of being able to get it though Amazon or LetsTalk since I would be saving $125. I will let you guys know in case anyone else is interested in upgrading early.
I was able to upgrade early despite being in contract only 8 months in with my Thunderbolt. I had to agree to buy some accessories which came out to be about $400 total but it sure beat the price of paying $650 + tax for another 8 months extension.
It all depends on who you talk to I guess.
I had the dinc and got it about 3 weeks after release. I got my nexus on Thursday and just had to pay the $20 early upgrade fee. Was about $360 when it was all said and done. Go to your store and just ask. Doesn't hurt.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
I had to buy it through Verizon but she discounted it so it wasn't the full $300. I should have it in two days and I already purchased a screen protector and also the extended battery for $25. A nice Christmas present to myself.
I too came from having a Dinc. I got my Dinc in July 2010. When I was on VZW website it said I was able to upgrade back when the T-Bolt came out. I just waited till the GN came out and ordered it and only had to pay the $299 + tax. Nothing else. Was disappointed no discount like the old days w/ new every 2 years but oh well. I was even able to bill to my account w/ free shipping and just got it and life is good.
In an industry where customer churn can be likened to the fearsome troll under the bridge, Sprint has launched a program designed to keep its favored subscribers around for another two years. While not everyone is eligible -- those who've upgraded less than eight months ago, corporate outfits and those in collections need not inquire -- the program lets customers buy their way out of their current commitment and become eligible for a new, subsidized handset. The promotion begins February 12th and is set to run through the 14th of April, where the amount you pay correlates to the time since your last upgrade. So if you're currently pining for the Epic 4G Touch or the iPhone 4S, just give your local Sprint store a call this Sunday. They just may be able to hook you up.

IMO opinion this is more of a contract buyout to get new user pricing than it is an early upgrade promo like the Sprint Premier Gold program was.
It makes 0 sense to pay $55 to buy out for early upgrade if you're like 1-4 months out.

Keep in mind though, that we live in a world where people will happily spend well in excess of $55 to "upgrade" from something like a IPhone 4 to a 4s. Sometimes, "sense" takes a back seat to a desire to be instantaneously satisfied... lol

I have to agree, people at my store will pay a lot to get their upgrade now to get the phone they want now. I think a lot of it comes from people who buy cheap phones and just can't take having them anymore and will do anything to get out of that phone.

This actually isn't a promotion. It's just a last resort offering by Retention as of right now. We've been doing it for months for customers in my stores, but it's never really been publicly advertised.

My wife is only 2 months away from an upgrade; if she waits, she still pays 36 dollars "activation fee", or, if she does it tomorrow, its the same 36 dollars, so, if you are a month or 2 away, it doesn't cost you a dime more to do it now..
yes, i am sure its to clean out the existing inventory before the "new" network is in full swing..

I work at a preferred dealer as well, just tell your customers to call customer care and see if they can do an early upgrade. If that doesn't work have them be transferred to retentions and say someone they know was able to buy out their remaining contract and get an early upgrade. That easy. I have my upgrade still, saving it for the GSIII because I'm not stupid like some people.

Ok I called Sprint customer care today inquiring about the upgrade. My girl's line is due for upgrade in October and I am tired of her complaining about her Evo3d restarting all the time. So I called to see if I can get that upgrade for an Iphone for her. I was told that the new promo is only for people who's upgrade is in April or earlier and are also having phone issues. I think I'm going to call a corporate store tomorrow. Any advice or am I wasting my time? The Engadget article said if you upgraded within the last 8 months your or not eligible. I didn't upgrade this line within the last 8 months.
To upgrade or not to upgrade....
I saw this on Friday and wandered into a Sprint store on Sunday. The fella at the desk told me this was all legit and that I would need to call customer service because he could not do anything from the store (he said to ask for the "retentions" department).
I've been suffering with a Hero for the last 18 months. Loved the phone when I first got it, but it didn't take long to realize that it was not powerful enough to keep me happy. My wife is on her third Moment because everything about that phone just doesn't seem to work. I was hoping to hold out for an LTE phone but it appears those won't be dropping until late summer, and I'm not sure if we can hold out that long.
On the Sprint website, I get a message that I am eligible for $150 off a new phone on April 1 (remnants of the Premiere Program). From what I read, I'll have to pay $36 to upgrade in April or I can pay $55 now.
So my question(s) to all you Sprint people out there, am I reading all this correctly? Will I still qualify for the $150 off the new phone? Am I absolutely crazy for not waiting for LTE? Should I take the SGS2E4GT (Galaxy S 2) or hold out for the Nexus?
Thanks for the input.

I would buy a used phone off Craig's list or something now and hold onto you upgrade for an LTE device. You can get an E4GT for around $300 and EVO 3D for much less or an Nexus 4G for even less then that.
That is what I would do because once the GN drops you know you will want it or whatever cool LTE phone comes out soon after that...
The way I read this is that they are just pro-rating your ETF (the way they all should do anyway).
In theory, it works like this:
A high end handset costs ~$600 but in exchange for signing a 2-year contract, the cell phone carrier will subsidize $400 of the cost and roll the cost of that "loan" into the cost of your monthly service. You get a new phone without as large an initial outlay of cash and they gain a steady source of income for at least the next 2 years.
In theory you should be able to bring your own phone and get service at a lower cost off-contract because you aren't paying off a subsidy but since the top 3 providers don't offer this, there is not really any benefit to not taking the subsidy. You are already paying the same monthly rate so other than not being locked into a service contract, you gain nothing financially from not taking the $400 subsidy.
Along with this, in theory, your ETF should drop by 1/24th every month as you are basically paying off the subsidy one month at a time over two years. Once again, it doesn't quite work that way. At least this is an attempt to let people pay off the remaining subsidy before signing a new contract and taking a new one.
I would prefer to just pay $600 for my phone and then pay $17 less per month (approx 1/24 of $400) with no contract but since the US market seems accustomed to cheaper subsidized handsets on contract I don't know it would ever take off much. The contracts, handset exclusives, and lack of porting options have made it so the carriers have little incentive to compete on price or plan options..but that's another topic for another day.
Well I got mine it was 40 bucks but.my Gf needs a new phone had so, iPhone 4s and she can have my day 2week old epic touch 4g
Update: I got my upgrade and the fee was added to my bill and my upgrade is now waiting. Pretty cool. I have another upgrade in August so I will se what they have then.

i was informed by a guy who commented on my post on the at&t facebook page, that if your upgrade was after march 1, 2012, that verizon and at&t will add another 6 months to your contract. what do you all think about this, and more that these 2 phone companies are being backed by the us government?
Didn't you sign a contract that stated the term of the agreement was 2yrs? If so, if they change anything on your contract, they are guilty of breech of contract. Why would they want to extend the period of your contract anyway? That's saying, we won't let you spend another $200+ for a new phone, for 6mo longer. Doesn't make sense.
here are some sources for you...
http://www.engadget.com/2013/06/09/att-extends-upgrade-period-to-two-years/
http://www.engadget.com/2013/04/12/verizon-upgrade-eligibility-extends-to-a-full-two-years/
in short, it used to be at the 20th month, you can upgrade and re-new your contract. but now, you have to wait until the 24th month.
but i believe this only applies to new customers/contracts/renews.
I think this is great.... I have been wanting to leave att for years, but I always see the shiny new device when 20 months rolls around and end up buying it. Now next time I am eligible for an upgrade my contract will be up too, so moving to another carrier will be much more tempting.

If you buy a Nexus, or any phone, outright they won't haveyou under their thumb
They can change the upgrade dates if they want
I Did a cross upgrade with my wifes account back in Dec. They messed up the order and sent 2 s3 for free and gave back the upgade eligability for my wifes line. Today I called to ask about cross upgrading again. Both of my s3's have cracked screens. I don't have an upgrade available for my line until Dec. 2014. Told them I wanted a cross upgrade and why. They responded by offering me an early upgrade on an S3 for $1 or the s4 For $100 on my line. And still left my wife's line upgrade in place. Waived the activation fee and overnighting it for free. So in 6 months I have gotten 3 s3's for a total of $1(that includes upgrade fees and shipping) and I still have my wife's upgrade for later when I want either the s4 or whatever. The customer rep was very upfront with telling me that they can waive whatever they want including upgrade dates. I still have unlimited data and I pay a great rate because of my companies discount. So all in all I have always been a fan of ATT and it's customer care department. Just be polite!!
Oh and they can't do anything for Iphones. Another reason to stay android.
