I wnt to use unrevoked forever. It has been a very long time since I rooted, and forgot which guide I used, but I know I used unrevoked forever. Now there are many guides on this site, I jsut want to know which one is best/will work and give me s-off as well.
Info:
Android version: 2.2
HW: 0004
HBOOT: 2.10.0001
Software number: 3.26.651.6
Is any other info needed to know which to use?
Thanks for the help.
Can someone please reply to this?
I believe unrevoked will work for you. Take a look at the wiki page to see.
So can you link me to one of the guides on the site? I have seen three so far.

So just download unrevoked 3, and run the exe. Then, in recovery, flash unrevoked forever, correct?

Unrevoked 3 includes Forever, so you don't have to flash separately. Just install the modified hboot drivers if you're on Windows, put the phone in usb debugging and connect as charge only, then run unrevoked. There are videos on YouTube if you think that'll help you out.

Make sure to have installed then uninstall HTC sync at some point, and you'll be good to go.
Also the solar battery is still going to happen, though on hold because my schedule is pretty like throw up.
So unrevoked three includes unrevoked forever now? If so then what is the point of unrevoked forever?

It was used to give you nand unlock in older versions of unrevoked; though as stated, it was incorporated into unrevoked.
Ok so I am pretty sure I have the modified drivers from the last time I rooted. So I can just DL unrevoked 3 and run the exe and I will be rooted?

My friend instead of driving yourself crazy worrying about stuff why don't you just start from scratch and follow of the the directions on the page in order to root your phone. Don't assume you did anything prior and just do it all from the beginning. Honestly its a 5-6 minute process at best and you will achieve what you are looking for... Plug your phone in and go for it.. really is a painless root

Forever was a separate tool so yes just run unrevoked3 since forever is part of it. Root in 5 minutes
Rooted.
I can install Amon RA recovery right over CWM right? Because the root method gives you CWM by default
Gaining S-off (Unlocking NAND) and Rooting are 2 Different Things,
If You are on the not so new Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread with the new HBOOT you will have to use Revolutionary to gain S-Off, while they say there is no way to reverse this some people have had luck re flashing the 2.15.001 or 2.16.001 HBOOT by way of a PC36IMG file on the sd card,
to root you have to get Superuser or get a Rooted Rom

Enjoy - no need to ask us anything else its all out there for you... Congrats and welcome
You realize I was rooted for a LONG time I just forgot which method I used lol. I used a very long complicated method. It was before the unrevoked was compatible for my setup.. lol
Eh I guess things are different than what I learned... Revolutionary and unrevoked gain S-off (or atleast that's the impression I was given) and "SU" granted root. Please correct me if I'm wrong

Came from the Droid and pretty much owned that phone up and down, but Evo is a different bird. I did the simple Unrevoked root method to run some of my root apps...question is, how do I unroot after using this method? Very much appreciated in advance. I am new to this particular forum, came from Droidforums.net, but always kept an eye on things over here.

Appreciate it guys...I hate having such a noob question on my first post
when you guys say "restart" you don't just mean holding down the power button until the phone asks you if you want to turn it off do you? you mean a full, data wiping, hard-reset right?

where do i uninstall the unrevoked app at? p.s. i just rooted my dinc with unrevoked 3
How do you un-root from unrEVOked3?
If it is the same as the first unrevoked, you just have to install the APK.
If it has changed ( i used Simple Root to get root & real NAND unlock ) then it's the same as unrooting any other root or unlock: Run the official RUU.

Going into settings under manage applications there should be an unrevoked app that you can uninstall.
just for future reference, this post should go into the Q&A section.

Hey I rooted w/unrevoked3 and it's diff from the unrevoked.APK
I was wondering can I just go ahead and do a simple root or another full root method over unrevoked or any other root method ?...or do I have do use an RUU then do another root method, see unrevoked3 doesn't have nand unlock or something so I cannot put damage control 3.2.2 on tit,

can u tell please, how to unroot 3.2.1 ??
to unroot 3.2.1, you need to flash toast's mtd-eng.img to the misc partition, before flashing unrevokedforevers-on.zip tool, and then either run an ruu or flash stock pc36img.zip. be happy. if this is too confusing, go to toast's how to root part two and do up to the flashing misc with mtd-eng.img ( code that you stop after is /data/local/flash_image misc /sdcard/mtd-eng.img) then you flash the s-on tool from the unrevoked website and flash to stock or run ruu.
dk
where do i get the latest RUU???
go to shippedroms.com. Those are ruu files
For 3.2.1
Try reading the FAQ's here http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/forever
Flash S-On and restore using the RUU.
ShippedRoms (RUU): http://bit.ly/f9Jx0f
If this is in the wrong section, I do apologize. I have a friend who wants me to root his phone for him, but he has done all the OTA updates. Here is the info
Android2.2
Software# 3.29.651.5
Pri version 1.77_003
Prl version 60670
Browser version webkit 3.1
Baseband version 2.15.00.09.01
What is the best method for rooting? I used the Simple Root program to root mine, but I don't think that works on 2.2
Look in the Android Development section for rooting 2.2. It's not nearly as easy as simple root but the instructions are pretty clear and straightforward.

Apparently not. I used Unrevoked 3 last night to root my Evo and when I tried to install BusyBox it gave me a failed message saying something along the lines of "....or you are not NAND unlocked" If I'm missing something please let me know. Im ready to flash Fresh3.3 but I dont want to make any moves until I'm absolutely sure I've done everything right
Flash unrevoked 3. 21, reboot, check everything then flash unrevoked forever. But before this flash the latest version of ARMON RA, 1. 8 I think. Afterwards do a android backup FIRST. Then root. Be sure to click the "more " link at the unrevoked site, go through ALL the docs first.

It does unlock nand, but the first ota overwrites it that's why you also flash unrevoked forever, get it... forever.

Just so we have this straight. I've already flashed Unrevoked. I have S-Off and Super User and all of that.
You're saying to reflash, Reboot, check and make sure everything is cool.
Then run Unrevoked Forever BEFORE or AFTER runnin AmonRa? In the unrevoked menu I can choose my own recovery shouldn't I just do it there?
After then root again?
Ok brother, 1)Run Unrevoked 3.21 using AmonRa when that is done 2)Make a Nandroid 3)You need to put Unrevoked Forever on your SD card and flash that, its that simple, now you are rooted, S-off, nand unlocked etc....
Have fun man, always remember NANDROID, NANDROID, NANDROID!!!!!!

There is no need to flash unrevoked forever if you root with unrevoked 3.21. It is already included. And if you want confirmation look at the faq for ur3.21.

This. I was about to say the same thing. UnrEVOked 3.21 does 3 things: Root, NAND unlock and S-OFF all in a nice little executable. Once you get that wonderful "Done" on unrevoked's application you are done and can flash away any custom ROM.
I used the old 2 part root method and MY evo has been rooted since June. Now my friend wants his rooted. He has also done all the ota updates. If I do unrevoked 3.21, will I be able to unroot if he ever needs to take his phone back to Sprint ??? I've read a bunch of mixed results.

All,
I've seen lots of info saying that a EVO 4G that came with 2.2 can't be rooted but based on what I'm seeing here that looks to be outdate info? Are you guys saying that unrevoked 3.21 is meant to be used on a EVO that comes with 2.2 or one that was already rooted?? Might be a dumb question but nothing out there clearly states this...
Thanks,
Okay long story short...Replaced my EVO 3 months ago. Used unrevoked to root and have been on Miui for quite some time...
I want to flash the newest radio/wiimax/PRI ect but when I went into Bootloader to flash the PC36img.zip nothing happened. The bootloader finds the img file but nothing else happens. I then noticed that it says S-ON.
I'm confused. I thought in order to be rooted you have to be S-off? If that is the case how can I flash any rom I want? I also have AMON 2.3 recovery flashed as well...
Also, I would like to get to S-off so if I follow this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829045 Will it work? Can I follow this guide with how my phone is now or do I have to unroot first? Thanks in advance.

The original Unrevoked 3.1 came out and could root the EVO before they released Unrevoked Forever. I think all you need to do is go check out the Unrevoked Forever site (http://www.unrevoked.com/forever) and you should be able to S-OFF your rooted EVO so that the bootloader will be able to apply the PC36IMG.zip files.

Wrong. S off is just the security setting. It has no correlation with being rooted. You can be rooted and still be s on like the op.
S off only enables the hboot to flash unsigned/unofficial images to the partitions. S off also allows the system to be written to while android is booted.
The unrevoked forever instructions even state you need to be rooted and have a custom recovery in order to set s off.

Any help would be much appreciated... GB update is killing her phone

See my post a couple up.
And for your info unrevoked gave the to new firmware error because you must be on the stock froyo radio for it to work, you are on the latest gingerbread radio. And there is also a newer version of gingerbread out, the official one 4.06.605.3 ruu you can get it in the dev section but if you do go from .2 to .3, do it before rooting as it will also un-root you.

You take the PB31IMG.zip and the su.zip and place them on your sd card in no folders. Boot into hboot and wait a couple secs. It will find the PB31IMG.zip and prompt you to hit volume up to flash it. Once thats done then select recovery from hboot and select install zip from sd and select the su.zip. Answer yes when prompted to install. After it has finished reboot your phone and install thr superuser app from the market. Thats it then your fully rooted.
Thanks for your help again.
I hit volume up to flash and within about a second it shows update complete and asks to reboot device. I've tried both ways Yes and No, with No continuing on and doing the su.zip as instructed. It doesn't seem to do anything either way. How long should the PB31IMG take to flash?
Alright you guys I'm not fully sure where to start but here we go. I had my EVO in 2.3.3 for quite a few months and the other day I tried to root it. I installed Revolutionary and I was almost done all I had to do was flash the recovery but no matter what I did I could not get it to work, it simply would not read off my sd card. So me being the noob that I am I thought upgrading to 2.3.5 would give me a clean slate and allow me to try a different method of rooting. But every tutorial I read about rooting 2.3.5 dealt with HBOOT being in 2.15-2.18 but Revolutionary is still on my phone and that left me with S-OFF HBOOT 6.16.1002. So the break down of all this is:
-I currently have an EVO 4G in 2.3.5
-With Revolutionary giving me HBOOT 6.16.1002 S-OFF
-I have no option that I know of to still root my phone
If ANYONE can give me a thorough step by step tutorial on how to still root my EVO I'd be beyond grateful. Thanks and sorry for the long post.
i have seen it in the past, but google how to manually flash the recovery through adb/fastboot.
Also you can download the sprint ruu software to restore ur hboot to an earlier version i believe, but im not positive, im just assuming so since it does change radio versions and such.

try using unrevoked as it may help you as it relys on radio version. Ive used it with success every time
Did you try redownloading the recovery file. Could of been a bad download?
You did rename it to PC36IMG right?
Also your phone is now s-off so thats a good thing. All you need to do is flash a recovery, make a nandroid backup. Then your off to flashing roms and kernels and then off to flashaholics anonymous! Lol

Can I still flash pc36img on 2.3.5???
Yes that is still what you call it.
As was mentioned you can get a recovery.img file and flash it through fastboot if you have SDK set up already.
I have had bad luck in walking people through these two steps. It is very hard to be sure it is right when not there in person.
I would suggest Amon Ra 2.3, his thread also has a pretty walk through on the different methods.

Your phone is already rooted so don't worry about trying to get that. It is already unlocked. First you need to get a custom recovery. Download this file:
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/0d1pir6ea2yqp0y/bRcbIfF2J1/PC36IMG-Amon-v3.11.zip
Rename it to exactly PC36IMG.zip (!!it is case sensitive!!). Place it on the main directory of your SD card (not in any folders). Pull battery out and put back in. Power on phone by holding in the volume- and power button until the phone boots to bootloader. It will automatically scan and find the file and ask you to apply. Say yes. Now you will have a custom recovery to flash a rom.
Wut he said ^^^^
