Came from the Droid and pretty much owned that phone up and down, but Evo is a different bird. I did the simple Unrevoked root method to run some of my root apps...question is, how do I unroot after using this method? Very much appreciated in advance. I am new to this particular forum, came from Droidforums.net, but always kept an eye on things over here.
thanks again,
Alan

Well first you uninstall the unrevoked app then you restart the device and you're done.
Appreciate it guys...I hate having such a noob question on my first post
when you guys say "restart" you don't just mean holding down the power button until the phone asks you if you want to turn it off do you? you mean a full, data wiping, hard-reset right?

where do i uninstall the unrevoked app at? p.s. i just rooted my dinc with unrevoked 3
How do you un-root from unrEVOked3?
If it is the same as the first unrevoked, you just have to install the APK.
If it has changed ( i used Simple Root to get root & real NAND unlock ) then it's the same as unrooting any other root or unlock: Run the official RUU.

Going into settings under manage applications there should be an unrevoked app that you can uninstall.
just for future reference, this post should go into the Q&A section.

Hey I rooted w/unrevoked3 and it's diff from the unrevoked.APK
I was wondering can I just go ahead and do a simple root or another full root method over unrevoked or any other root method ?...or do I have do use an RUU then do another root method, see unrevoked3 doesn't have nand unlock or something so I cannot put damage control 3.2.2 on tit,

can u tell please, how to unroot 3.2.1 ??
to unroot 3.2.1, you need to flash toast's mtd-eng.img to the misc partition, before flashing unrevokedforevers-on.zip tool, and then either run an ruu or flash stock pc36img.zip. be happy. if this is too confusing, go to toast's how to root part two and do up to the flashing misc with mtd-eng.img ( code that you stop after is /data/local/flash_image misc /sdcard/mtd-eng.img) then you flash the s-on tool from the unrevoked website and flash to stock or run ruu.
dk
where do i get the latest RUU???
go to shippedroms.com. Those are ruu files
For 3.2.1
Try reading the FAQ's here http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/forever
Flash S-On and restore using the RUU.

I had to unroot my phone so that i could take it back to sprint. I am taking it back to sprint because my power/wake button is not working. i ran the ruu.exe but i forgot to turn the s back on before unrooting. so baically my phone is stock with s-off. did i screw myself. do i have to reroot my phone then turn s-on then unroot again. or can someone please tell me how to turn s-on while stock.
thanks
Edit: See final post for fix.
I think you have to reroot your phone. You need to get into recovery to flash the S-on tool.

mmm i run the RUU the other day and i didnt lost root. i have the s-off n i can still go to recovery. hey i think u can flash a recovery zip (PC36IMG) that mite work.. HERES DA LINK U HAVE TO COPY N PASTE scroll down where it says downloads n download the recovery zip. PC36IMG_RECOVERY.ZIP http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829045
[[RESOLVED]]
So I flashed the RUU.exe(3.29.651.5). it replaced everything back to stock.(i.e. the splash1.img, removed custom recovery, stock boot animation, and removed superuser permissions.) but i forgot to run unrevoked forever s-on.zip. so I had completely unrooted my phone but it was nand unlocked. and because of the problem i was having with the phone i couldnt just run unrevoked3 for a quick root. so here's what i did:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=690762
this is toast's method of rooting. but i only did the first half. the part where you download the pc36IMG.zip and update. pretty long and tedious process but it got the job done. maybe it will hel someone else.
for the recovery i just installed from the market, rom manager and chainsdd superuser permission app. the su app was to grant permissions to rom manager. then just flashed recovery img with rom manager.
i then put Unrevokedforeverson.zip on the root of sd card and ran the zip from rom manager so that i wouldnt have to use power or volume buttons.
verified that s was on. and then ran the ruu.exe again.
Thanks for this!!!!
I had the same issue and followed your instructions and IT WORKED!!!
One question - how did you check if S was ON after running the RUU?
Since I can't use the Power button, I was wondering how you did it?

My power button was stuck in the held position I think. I just did a battery pull and before reinserting. The battery I held the volume. Down and power down too boot into boot loader. That is where you see s—on or s—off.

You can also use the adb reboot recovery command in adb to reboot the phone into recovery. I plan on unrooting and using this ruu later since my mic isnt working and need to take it to sprint. I dont want to use the newest ruu's since I dont want to risk my hboot getting switched to one of the more difficult hboots since I plan on rerooting once the mic gets fixed. Hopefully the mic can get fixed and I can keep my current phone.
Hi Guys,
I have a quick one...
I rooted by DInc using Unrevoked3, with the S-ON option. I had the original Eclair build on, I updated to Froyo and then used the tool to root, and install Clockwork Recovery...
Now, I am learning that with the S-ON option, there are far too many limitations on customization of the phone. I have had various custom ROMs on the phone, since the root, and now I am wonder, basically how to get to the same exact place, with the S-OFF?
Should I just run the Unrevoked3 flash program on my phone again, with the Security disabled this time, and then just use Nandroid to restore one of my ROMs I currently have running?
Can someone please confirm this process, step by step for me? I don't want to brick my phone....
Any help is appreciated guys, thank you!
Just run unrevoked again, this time with s-off, i don't believe re-rooting when you are already rooted will cause a brick. You don't even have to reinstall the rom.

Yes it worked, thanks PGleo86 !
I downgraded and flashed my HTC Telus Desire HD with Android Revolution HD 3.3. This worked fine.
Until I went to flash the radio with the recomended radio. When I open up VISIONary to do a temp root, it seems to do nothing, it will not go past "rooting device, please wait...." I have tried flashing the radio by going into the "bootloader" at phone start up and flashing the radio image that way with no luck neither.
I believe the program Superuser is not functioning correctly....I say this only because I have installed the SU Update Fixer program, it says "signatures don't match, fix now?" and it stops at a point where it says " changing file mode to 644..."
Should I go back to a stock rom? Or should I reflash Android Revolution? I am beginning to think that these custom roms are not worth it for me.
PLEASE HELP!
Why didnt you permroot to start off with? And dont worry about update fixer thats only if u use superuser frm market ur using the one provided with your rom

Needless to say, I need HELP.
You have to temproot and then again permroot it. Then only your Superuser can actually work on and off.
If you mention about flashing radios, obtaining a Superuser is not enough. You have to had Radio S-OFF and ENG S-OFF to do so. This also applies if you wish you flash other custom ROMs.
No worries about learning. Take your time. I took some time to actually understand things here. Lol.
Cheers.

Thats just it, VISIONary will not temproot and there fore I cannot permroot...VISIONary seems to do nothing after I hit the "temproot now" button. It goes to the screen that says "rooting device..." and just stays there. What do i need to do to fix this? After this I can do the Radio S-OFF and ENG S-OFF...but cannot get to that stage. That is why I am asking about reflashing.
Arhd 3.3 should be rooted out of thr box. No need to root it with visionary.
Tapatalked with Tapatalk from my Desire HD using Tapatalk.
You should really get more familiar with how flashing stuff on android works so you don't do any mistakes and brick your DHD. If you would just have read the OP in ARHD 3.3 thread, you would've known it's already rooted.
Just to clear this thing.. Temproot and permroot are things that apply only to the current ROM. You did them already in stock ROM to be able to get a custom ROM. Do NOT use Visionary with custom ROMs, those are already rooted.
Just go ahead and flash the radio. Your phone is as rooted as it is possible.

I was going to say I have downloaded "Root Checker" from the android market and it says my phone is properly rooted....with busy box installed.
jkoljo, what should I do about my radio problem? Reflash android revolution HD 3.3 and then try the radio flash? or go some other route?
You can just follow leith51's guide, no need to reflash the ROM or anything.

That is why I was asking about reflashing the Rom. In order to flash the radio, I need to Radio S-OFF which uses VISIONary to do a Temp root. When I go to do this Temp root, VISIONary seemingly does nothing, it just freezes on the page that says "rooting device, please wait...."
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm saying that you need to read up a little, rooting and flashing isn't for the average user. You need to know what you're doing.
Visionary is a rooting tool and as you have a custom rom (ARHD) you do not need to root it once more. Check the "About Android Revolution HD" box in the thread, root is listed there.
And if you have already done s-off earlier, it will not all of a sudden revert to s-on again if you haven't done it?
I wnt to use unrevoked forever. It has been a very long time since I rooted, and forgot which guide I used, but I know I used unrevoked forever. Now there are many guides on this site, I jsut want to know which one is best/will work and give me s-off as well.
Info:
Android version: 2.2
HW: 0004
HBOOT: 2.10.0001
Software number: 3.26.651.6
Is any other info needed to know which to use?
Thanks for the help.
Can someone please reply to this?
I believe unrevoked will work for you. Take a look at the wiki page to see.
So can you link me to one of the guides on the site? I have seen three so far.

Unrevoked 3 includes Forever, so you don't have to flash separately. Just install the modified hboot drivers if you're on Windows, put the phone in usb debugging and connect as charge only, then run unrevoked. There are videos on YouTube if you think that'll help you out.

Make sure to have installed then uninstall HTC sync at some point, and you'll be good to go.
Also the solar battery is still going to happen, though on hold because my schedule is pretty like throw up.
So unrevoked three includes unrevoked forever now? If so then what is the point of unrevoked forever?

It was used to give you nand unlock in older versions of unrevoked; though as stated, it was incorporated into unrevoked.

My friend instead of driving yourself crazy worrying about stuff why don't you just start from scratch and follow of the the directions on the page in order to root your phone. Don't assume you did anything prior and just do it all from the beginning. Honestly its a 5-6 minute process at best and you will achieve what you are looking for... Plug your phone in and go for it.. really is a painless root

I can install Amon RA recovery right over CWM right? Because the root method gives you CWM by default
Gaining S-off (Unlocking NAND) and Rooting are 2 Different Things,
If You are on the not so new Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread with the new HBOOT you will have to use Revolutionary to gain S-Off, while they say there is no way to reverse this some people have had luck re flashing the 2.15.001 or 2.16.001 HBOOT by way of a PC36IMG file on the sd card,
to root you have to get Superuser or get a Rooted Rom

Well the first thing you have to do in the unrooting procedure is downgrade the misc partition so you don't get that message . It's all outlined there nicely, and if you have any questions, it might be easier for you to post over there - they're all very helpful .

hey guys i had to unroot my evo with the unrooting method mentioned above, but i messed up and flashed the s-on and flashed an RUU b4 downgrading the misc partition. The phone also installed the 5.07 OTA with the stock recovery. The phone says it has "s-on" but the hboot is 6.17 and i cannot get it to update back to 2.18, everytime i try to RUU again, i get a error 140 saying bootloader version error. I tried to root again using revolutionary and i get told that the s is already off and get asked to install a custom recovery and that fails every time. i tried to install amon ra via pc36img method in bootloader and it does nothing. i tried using unrevoked since my phone says its hboot 2.16 and unrevoked fails and says my firmware is too new. I tried using htc dev to achieve root again and the cmd gives me an error every time i try to get the code from my phone. i made a booboo and i cant root nor update and i gotta return my phone to sprint since i upgraded my phone to a diff phone. Any ideas guys?

WHAT?? I'm lost. First you said your Hboot is 6.17, then you said your phone says it has Hboot 2.16.
Sounds like your misc partition is screwed up from the different Hboots that your phone had, especially from the 5.07 OTA. If that's the case, there is no current RUU that will work for that (the 5.07 misc). It's there to prevent you from downgrading. You will need the Tacoroot method in order to downgrade your misc partition so that you can run your RUU again. It will give you a temp root so that you can run adb commands to downgrade that misc partition. It's in the rooting method guide from Captain Throwback's link above.

My apologies, i was in a rush earlier. My hboot is 6.17, not 2.16. I tried unrooting and did for the most part except getting hboot back to 2.18. In this process, the phone forced itself to update to the new 5.07 OTA that there is no RUU for so im screwed to that end. I am currently trying Tacoroot method but am having issues being stuck at the sprint screen bootloop so i cant run the flash_image command from the sdcard (since the phone isnt starting fully for it to be in "charge only mode"). Seems alot of ppl have that same issue but havent found a solution yet. Not sure if i just start over if it bootloops or not. I've tried 3 complete times now and still get stuck on the bootloop.
Ouch, that sucks. If you cannot boot into the operating system, then there might not be anything that you can do.

i just stumbled over this method.. unrevoked web site has a s-on tool, go to there site ://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/forever you will see the blah blah blah tutorial.. scroll down until you get down to:
How can this be removed or undone if I need to take my phone in for service?
Download the latest ''S-ON'' tool to a temporary location and follow the installation instructions above to run it. Once your phone is S-ON, you may lose root permanently if you install an official update.. download it to your phone.. recovery mode.. flash from zip.. poof.. S-ON
now head over to htcevohacks, ://htcevohacks.com/htc-evo-hacks/how-to-unroot-your-htc-evo-4g/ get htc update rom utility for your phone.. that erases entire phone and and places sprints latest stock factory rom and everything back on your phone.. do all sprint updates.. and return to sprint and recieve your refurbished motorola photon.. sprint htc evo 4g has been dissed-continued.. oh yeah if you dont do it in that order.. you will loose your root with update utility.. which means you will have to use unrevoked3 to reroot and flash s-on tool .. done the right way its only two steps.. peace out
