[Q] Question about Unrevoked3 and S-OFF... - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
I have a quick one...
I rooted by DInc using Unrevoked3, with the S-ON option. I had the original Eclair build on, I updated to Froyo and then used the tool to root, and install Clockwork Recovery...
Now, I am learning that with the S-ON option, there are far too many limitations on customization of the phone. I have had various custom ROMs on the phone, since the root, and now I am wonder, basically how to get to the same exact place, with the S-OFF?
Should I just run the Unrevoked3 flash program on my phone again, with the Security disabled this time, and then just use Nandroid to restore one of my ROMs I currently have running?
Can someone please confirm this process, step by step for me? I don't want to brick my phone....
Any help is appreciated guys, thank you!

Just run unrevoked again, this time with s-off, i don't believe re-rooting when you are already rooted will cause a brick. You don't even have to reinstall the rom.

How to un-root Unrevoked???...

Came from the Droid and pretty much owned that phone up and down, but Evo is a different bird. I did the simple Unrevoked root method to run some of my root apps...question is, how do I unroot after using this method? Very much appreciated in advance. I am new to this particular forum, came from Droidforums.net, but always kept an eye on things over here.
thanks again,
Alan

Well first you uninstall the unrevoked app then you restart the device and you're done.
Appreciate it guys...I hate having such a noob question on my first post
when you guys say "restart" you don't just mean holding down the power button until the phone asks you if you want to turn it off do you? you mean a full, data wiping, hard-reset right?

where do i uninstall the unrevoked app at? p.s. i just rooted my dinc with unrevoked 3
How do you un-root from unrEVOked3?
If it is the same as the first unrevoked, you just have to install the APK.
If it has changed ( i used Simple Root to get root & real NAND unlock ) then it's the same as unrooting any other root or unlock: Run the official RUU.

Going into settings under manage applications there should be an unrevoked app that you can uninstall.
just for future reference, this post should go into the Q&A section.

Hey I rooted w/unrevoked3 and it's diff from the unrevoked.APK
I was wondering can I just go ahead and do a simple root or another full root method over unrevoked or any other root method ?...or do I have do use an RUU then do another root method, see unrevoked3 doesn't have nand unlock or something so I cannot put damage control 3.2.2 on tit,

you are all wrong! If you are talking about the one button mobile app, carry on with your rebooting. If you are talking about unrevoked 3.2.1, you are on the wrong ship, and your ship is sinking fast. Pm me for questions on unrooting 3.2.1

can u tell please, how to unroot 3.2.1 ??
to unroot 3.2.1, you need to flash toast's mtd-eng.img to the misc partition, before flashing unrevokedforevers-on.zip tool, and then either run an ruu or flash stock pc36img.zip. be happy. if this is too confusing, go to toast's how to root part two and do up to the flashing misc with mtd-eng.img ( code that you stop after is /data/local/flash_image misc /sdcard/mtd-eng.img) then you flash the s-on tool from the unrevoked website and flash to stock or run ruu.
dk
where do i get the latest RUU???
go to shippedroms.com. Those are ruu files
For 3.2.1
Try reading the FAQ's here http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/forever
Flash S-On and restore using the RUU.

Unable to root new 2.3 OTA Update?

I RUU'd my phone to stock so I could check out the new update. Trying to reroot using unrevoked and I am getting "failed to flash recovery image" I followed all the steps...
has anyone else been able to root this?
This what I kept telling people...don't do that. Unrevoked won't work on it because it hasn't been updated to work with the new OTA, though it should happen soon. You should have waited for the rooted rom, which would be out sometime today, Virus is already on it. For now, you're stuck.
Have you tried looking at the bootloader? Does it show s-off? I doubt it worked, but in the event it did, all you would have to do is flash a PC36IMG of a recovery in the bootloader.

Yeah I know

RUUing to an older version of what you have could brick your phone. The new update has a new bootloader so you are pretty much screwed until somebody comes up with a way to root it.
If he was actually thinking properly it wouldn't matter. If he had S-Off then just flashed the Amon Ra in recovery then he will have Recovery Back and can Flash ANY ROM he Desires.
RUU'ing back to stock doesn't turn S-Off back to S-On
But if he Didn't i would advise Running the Old RUU then using unrevoked, then unrevoked forever but unrevoked3 has unrevoked forever built into it then you can update to the new rom and reflash amon ra or clockwork over to have recovery back then when a Odexed or DeOdexed rom comes out flash it

Nope not really. I love to play around and try things out for myself. Best way for me to learn things. No big deal if I don't get root right now. I'll figure out something.

Just flash the rooted version... although like everyone else, you'll probably update OTA anyway thinking it's easier and run into the same problems as everyone else.

I actually wasn't complaining. I was asking if anyone had success rooting the 2.3 update. I could have been doing something wrong or missed a step.

[Q] S-OFF Help

I’ve recently rooted my desire (gsm) using unrevoked (Linux) and i thought it would also give me S-OFF but apparently I where wrong. I've already searched around looking for a way to get S-OFF and in all the TUT’s, Guides etc. it says that you should have an unrooted stock HTC 2.2 ROM or at least an official HTC ROM and that’s the problem…
I’m using Cyanogen Mod 7.1 and I had a backup of my stock 2.2 Sense ROM but I lost it.. or. well... i deleted it accidentally.
Now the question is; Can I still get S-OFF and how? Do I flash a HTC ROM and then do it, should I use AlphaRev, Revolutionary or do it manually (if that works on Ubuntu)
All help appreciated
It should work fine with CM7 aslong as you didnt flashed any a2sd/d2ext scripts.
If i remember correctly, i was doing my first S-OFF with http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768703&highlight=leedroid

does that mean you have to flash stock ROM?
i once had this problem too, it causes my phone to stuck at the boot screen (Joker with S-OFF card), and then i flashed a ROM built without A2SD. Voila, it worked!

I don’t know. I downloaded CM7 using rom manager flashed that, Gapps and superuser 3.0 beta 4
But just to be on the safe side I’ll flash Leedroid 2.2 but then what? Do I use Revolutonary or AlphaRev??
edit: a2sd/d2ext scripts it that when you have partitioned the sdcard? cause ive done that but thats easy to fix
No point in using alpharev it's just longer. Use revolutionary.

[Q] Factory Reset to Downgrade

I am having a stupid hard time downgrading my Girlfriend's Incredible to install a custom ROM. I tried UnRevoked 3.22 with the custom CWM and all kinds of different instructions from various sites. My question is: If I factory reset it from the bootloader, does it downgrade it back to 2.1?
No, factory reset just deletes your data. What is your phone setup, Android version, have you unlocked it through the HTC website (if not, DON'T do it), etc?

She's on the newest OTA. I wanna say 2.3.6. And, no it has not been unlocked. When I use the newest UnRevoked, it says the firmware is too new. When I try to using UnRevoked 3.22 it says the same.
I'm in the same boat, have a Droid Inc that has a newer radio that seems to be not supported, none of the unrevoked apps will root it.
It does have an unlocked bootloader and is S-OFF.. unlocked the bootloader after the rooting methods kept failing.. is that bad?
You need to use the adb method to get s-off and root if the rev 3.22 isn't working. I did it and all is just fine.

Fail to Root Desire

Hi guys, i'm new here, and YES! i have already a problem ...
So I got the Desire a few weeks ago, and I wanted to root it, then to install a cool ROM.
(I precise that I have Android 2.2, and HBOOT 0.93)
So I followed all the tutorials about rooting Desire, and I'm stuck everytime at the same point : UNREVOKED !!
I have done all the work like : HTC Sync uninstalled, download good drivers, USB debug, ..., and Unrevoked can't root my phone..
It says : " Rebooting
Waiting for bootloader...
Waiting for HBOOT to be ready
Waiting for Reboot
Internal error : couldn't find misc "
What's that ? I googled it but without many results...if you guys could help me please !!
Thanks !
did you try this guide? check part 15
are you on the stock rom right now?
and s-off or on?
Use revolutionary to s-off and install recovery, and then root.
