OK thanks a bunch. How do you like it over Android?

I bought a Samsung Focus to use while my Atrix is at motorola trying to fix a wifi issue. So far I like it a lot. I have had zunepass for sometime now, and being able to use it on my phone has been a huge plus. It has been weird not having multiple homescreens and widgets. Android has been better for customization and I like the hardware of the atrix better than the focus. WP7 is nice because it just works well and has a refreshing UI. My atrix has always crashed about once a week. The focus has been running awesomely for about 3 weeks now.
If you would like to buy my focus from me to try out send me a PM. I got a good price on it and would be able to offer it to you for the same price. I am thinking of switching to the dell venue pro or one of the new phones being released soon.
Also, I just followed the steps on these forums to install Mango on my focus. It was pretty easy. If you ever flashed custom ROMs to your android, you should be able to handle it easily.

It's not hard at all. I bought my Focus used on craigslist a few months ago for $90. Incredible phone.

Want to buy a window 7 phone(tmobile)

I need help picking, I love the radar 4g and the lumia 710 but they don't support micro SD card!(8g of memory won't work for me). Im thinking about getting the dvp(dell venue pro) but I need some window phone owner input!.
Don't want to purchase an unlock phone due to me not being able to use 3G or 4G.
I will be purchasing this phone second hand due to the fact window 8 phone around the corner just want to spend sometime with a window phone to see how it goes! Thanks

There's a good thread here that is worth reading.
If you decide to get a DVP, make sure you are familiar with the process before changing the micro SD card - there are lots of threads about this topic on the DVP forum. You can expand the capacity to 32GB by replacing the micro SD card.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=799
There are different versions of the DVP for AT&T and T-Mobile. It may not matter as much if you can't use 3G but worth mentioning.
The DVP was my second wp7 device and after they fixed all of the bugs was a major love affair. Had Nokia not brought such outstanding offerings to the table, I'd still be using the DVP, that thing was a beautiful tank.
Look on Craigslist for an HD7...you can upgrade to 32GB and it has the latest software...unless T-Mo comes out with something slick, I'll be rocking this for quite a while!
Will be looking into both device. Anyone else want to put in there two cents?
Sent from my myTouch_4G_Slide using xda premium
My vote goes to the DVP. I get the privilege of using a lot of devices, and after Mango the DVP is still my favourite WP7 device. It's heavy and the camera is pretty mediocre, but it oozes quality and is the only portrait QWERTY slider available. Helps that the keyboard is awesome, too!
Also, they're very cheap these days. Especially the T-Mobile banded ones.
The DVP looks really boss. I didn't get one basically because I was unsure about the presence of the Italian locale and the 256mbs of RAM got me worried. Also, I didn't really rely on Dell's commitment to WP7, so I was unsure about the update pattern. The 710 is a good and reliable phone too, it has Nokia goods on board and the screen is actually ok. The design is a little uninspiring tho. Just personal opinion, my gf actually likes it better than my 800, she finds it too squared 0.o

It's a solid phone but it's definitely outdated. The screen looks quite washed out and it's not really lightweight IMHO.

Not really a BB fan, but I'm thinking about purchasing a dell venue pro or HD7. Leaning more towards the venue

IMHO they use it only because they are very accustomed to it. Last summer I tried using a 9780 for a few days and coming from a Desire I found it the most painful phone experience I ever had. The interface is unintuitive as hell, you need to hit the keys dozens of times just to do things that can be done in a couple of taps even on the worse Symbian device. The browser is pathetic, everything keeps lagging and freezing 24/7 and there are no decent apps at all. Also, if you lack BIS and BES this phone is as good as a 3310. Lame, horrid experience. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, it's a nightmare. Maybe the newer phones (like the 9900) are better, but forget about having any support: they won't be updated to BBOS10, and probably RIM will manage to fail even before the end of 2012.

The HD7 is a solid phone,I've been rocking it since November. Only problem I have with it is if I'm in my house or bedroom especially when trying to stream something, if I put my hand anywhere near the base my connection drops to 2G. Probably has something to do with the trees around my brick house or the poor antenna in the phone.

LMFAO understood!
Before i buy this phone will my current SIM card work with the dell venue pro?
Yes, of course, assuming you don't buy one that is SIM-locked to a different carrier for some reason.
Note that if you want lots of hacks, the Venue Pro is not a good choice. As far as I know, we haven't even managed to interop-unlock it yet. The HD7 (and most other gen1 phones, but not the Venue Pro) can use custom ROMs and WP7 Root Tools.

Windows Surface Phone.. would you?

If MSFT were to enter the WP8 game with Windows Surface Phone or MSFT Surface Phones range would you buy it?
Just a wild wild dream.. because:
a) The launch of surface range has created a buzz on even iForums and DroidForums.
b) The tech guys generally have liked it
c) It has met the hype
d) It looks sexy and we know it will perform much better than we think
e) Windows branding might be the reason for no traction, Surface branding seems to be taken positively
so.. could Windows Phone 8 be the Microsoft Surface Phones? or just Surface Phones?
PS: I love the Surfaces (will get one on the release day!) and whole heartedly hope the new new new iPad doesn't copy Surface and come up with the same and better pad.
Why do we know it will work better than we think?
Probably because WP7 worked alot better than people gave it credit for .

I don't care what they call it. All I'm hoping for tomorrow is the tiles with the ability to change their sizes, and the tiles with real information like the mail tile in Windows 8.

Don't get me wrong... I'm thrilled about Surface
I would just prefer a Nokia... I like the aesthetics they design.
I'm definately tempted by the RT version of Surface especially if it gets priced correctly
There is one important difference between "Surface" Devices by Microsoft and "Nexus" Devices by Google. The Nexus devices have the benefit of being updated more regularly and earlier than competitors devices. It is highly unlikely that Microsoft will push update to their devices earlier. For Windows 8 it is a given that those will get Updates the same time everyone else does (second tuesday every month) and WinRT is likely to do it the same way.
And as Microsoft succeeded at least with Mango to push it worldwide around the same time I guess they would not stray from that path with new Windows Phones.
Given the partnership between Microsoft and Nokia I believe they will be relying on Nokia for their lead devices, given that Nokia has an All In Approach to the OS.
So I don't see it happening and if it were it would be a really good question why I would go with the Surface Phone instead of a Nokia (unless they build something that blows a PureView Nokia out of the water).
they gonna charge $600 and $800 for the thing... i think it is a way better deal than an iPad.

I am looking at Samsung Slate Series also. They had some quite "wow" device at the Windows 8 Release Preview Launch.
keynote
watch the keynote from 13:30 to 14:30.
either the hardware is underperforming or the software is still beta.
neat concept. too bad about the bootloader.
Its still Beta, even the consumer preview has some major quirks.
One big issue is gaming and swiping, swipe anywhere near the top of the screen and you'll bring up the multi tasking window, thus ruining your game.
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk 2
I am looking it in a way what Steve said "Harmony of software with hardware". Can Nokia really know better hardware for MSFT software than MSFT itself? They are only partners after all. Also, am I the only one who thinks Surface devices are going to stand out in the sea of Lumias? However, Nokia do come up with plenty of classy designs from time to time.

Thinking of switching to Nokia Lumia 710...

Am I dumb? I don't really flash roms anymore. I rarely play games. Just been thinking of something simple and I've always been tempted to try WP. Input?

If you can sell your S2 and get a Lumia for a lower price, go for it. No point to having a shiny toy if you don't use it really. But try out the Lumia though. The hard keys are notoriously difficult to press, as is the camera button. On the other hand, it feels more solid and not as fragile as the S2.
I've been looking at what's available and since WP8 is on its way it would be dumb to start on a WP7 device. May as well wait and when prices come down go for it then. I definitely like the simplicity of WP over Android but it makes sense to wait for a more powerful device and feature rich OS.

I'll trade you a lumia 710 for your s2 . My dad has the lumia and I don't really like it that much. It's a nice phone but really lacking in apps. The tiles are interesting. Everything is really simple. Its probably what you're looking for because it has all the popular apps and handles basic things pretty well.
Dad just got an iPhone 4 and his lumia is just sitting there. He wanted more apps which is funny cause he doesn't even use his phone for email.

I had a lumia 900 (well, technically still have it) and really liked the speed and fluidity of Windows Mobile. I think it is an excellent OS. I also think that the OP will enjoy having both OS's on hand to tinker with. I have iOS, WM and Android here and they are all fun to play with in their own right. Nothing wrong with trying the latest and greatest from a competitor out. :good:

I had a WP7 phone and it just wasn't enough for my needs (limited apps on the app store being one of the major factors), but I do miss the stability and fluidity of that OS... if all you're looking for is a basic smartphone, Windows phones are actually really nice... Of course, most everyone here is looking to hack or modify their phone in some way, and for that, Windows phones kinda suck.

POWERED by FROSTY!
Till it is confirmed through Samsung themselves and not Bloomberg or this site or that site, I just can't believe it.
Samsung has always been about working with just about anything they could.
I know of Tizen, but thought that was for lower end phones until they felt confident moving ahead. So if true, then can't see it being as soon as this year.
Crazy if it does happen...hope they don't go the iOS way. If so, sucks!

Its not all bad guys... A new OS mean new things to learn and a new experience to be had. I believed that the reason for the move is to provide the user with a better experience via the hardware they provide. I for one am willing to give them the chance to prove what they can do on their own.

I'm fairly skeptical, the GS3 has been an outstanding success for Samsung, absolutely dominating Android phone sales. I have trouble believing they would abandon Android completely for their own proprietary smartphone OS. They have the benefit of seeing the demise of RIM and the snails pace growth of Windows Phone to show them that the market can't accommodate another OS.
Just like a year and a half ago they "were" gonna drop android and revamp BADA too much money making with android why leave it. .
Can't say that I believe it either.
Android has made their mobile division the success that it is today.

https://www.tizen.org/about
The article says they'd use "Tizen" instead, which sounds like it's more geared towards tv's and other "smart" devices, which would let them have a unified experience between people's tv's and phones. but with the lack of a fully fleshed out app marketplace, i think samsung would be retarded to go that route. seems like a far fetched suggestion to me. better to put android in your tv than your tv on your phone...
I really hope they don't, The S3 is my fifth smartphone, I started with the huawei ascend, optimus v, motorola triumph, then the S2 and S3. I cannot see myself going to htc, Motorola, or any other company. I was planning on rocking the Galaxy S25 in 20 years lol
