Hi everyone
I am thinking about picking up the 900 coming from a galaxy nexus. Now my problem is I am a heavy google user especially google voice. Does that work with win 7 and would I have a tough time transitioning to win 7 and the 900?
Thanks for any help

do not assume anything google will work. Just like nothing windows will work on android. Best bet is check with voice, they will know if it works or not.
I made the transition from android to winphone. I didn't made and didn't look for backs all the time, so transition was easy. Android does alot of good things. So does winphone. But they are different. It is a different experience. How well you like it will be up to you.

watch that, i think that will help you decide on upgrading to it. the only think about the lumia 900 that bugs me is the resolution on the big screen

I think the resolution is only an issue if you plan on heavy usage of the phone such as watching movies etc... I don't "live" on my phone so its never been an issue. Considering the ability to view it nicely in sunlight and the RICH color experience compared to HTC and iPhone I don't think you will be disapointed.
From all the pictures I've seen of it, to me, the colors look dull. I just got the galaxy note and I am extremely happy with it. I was just thinking about picking up the 900 since the price is so good. Screen clarity is huge for me. A friend of mine had the original Samsung Focus and wp7 looked really good on that phone but I don't know about the Lumia 900. It might not be the phone for me.

One of the things to remember, the default setting for brightness is automatic. This dulls down the screen brightness alot, even on the samsung. I switch mine from automatic and set it to medium. Screen looks amazing....of the 900 devices I've got to play with, its screen looked fine.
the colors and the screen itself look fantastic, its just the resolution on the bigger screen. at least its not as big as the titans lol. qHD would have been perfect on this or at least the resolution of the n9. im either going to upgrade to this or the n9, kind of hard to pick. definitely getting rid of my amaze though

I compared the lumia to the focus and they are the same at the store where I pre-ordered. The colors on the amoleds look FAR superior to something like the Titan. In fact I passed on it because of that, the HTC colors were just white washed BADLY by comparison.
So I have had just about every android device worth having, I am currently using an iphone 4s, switched from the Galaxy Nexus to use it for a while, it is a nice device, but I just prefer android better.
I have never tried wp7, don't really care for the look of the OS, but I like the looks of the Nokia phone and I have been wanting to try it out. I am open minded to the idea, like I said I love android, I think ios is great too, just like android better.
I am really hoping to like wp7, I like to be able to switch back in forth to different operating systems.
That is what I am going to do. I will just switch back and forth between phones. Gotta love gsm.

Okay will do, I usually post on androidforums, but now with me going to be using wp7 figured it was time to start posting more over here.
I will do my best to give a fair review of the phone and what my likes/dislikes are.

The great thing about Google Voice on Android is that it's seamlessly baked in to the OS. Since that is not the case on WP7, you will need to use an app. I use Freetalk, which works well for me and can place calls using my GV phone number. For texting you need to do that using Freetalk's SMS app instead of the Microsoft SMS app. However your incoming text messages will show up in both places.
Windows Phone does have connectivity to your Google Contacts, Mail, and Calendar built in. During setup it will ask you for Google, Yahoo, Outlook/Exchange, Twitter, Hotmail, and / or Facebook accounts. It will then integrate all contacts, mail, and calendar items into your Windows Phone.
As for making the transition, it will take some work. Android and IOS work basically the same way so moving from one to the other isn't very hard. Windows Phone, on the other hand, interacts with the user differently. It also has a minimalist design which looks great, but does not give you a lot of clues as to how to do things.
I would suggest getting yourself a good WP7 book and save yourself the frustration of trying to figure things out on your own. Two good ones are:
Windows Phone 7 Companion by Matthew Miller
Windows Phone 7 Secrets by Paul Thurrott
Also Microsoft's online site for Windows Phone is quite good.

To be honest, if you don't like the look of the OS, you may not enjoy using the phone regardless of how nice the hardware is. Since you'll be using the OS all the time, you may cringe everytime you use it.
That being said, I didn't like the look of the OS of WP at first and then it grew on me and I really like it now.

Actually do they already know what the look of Windows Phone 8 Apollo will look like? I'm assuming the UI will be even better.
Hey guys, before you say this is in the wrong forum, I'm trying to get a standpoint on people who use THIS PHONE. I would appreciate it if you only answer if you have this phone and a windows phone 7.5 you can compare with. I just got my Radar today because the Windows Phone Challenge (Phones came in today) and I'm contemplating which to use as my primary phone right now.
I got the radar for my sister a few months back. I like it. A lot of times I wish I had my own windows phone to use on and off. The gs2 has always just been an ok phone to me. If you have them both you will prob be switching on and off just cause you can. Both equally nice for daily use.

Yeah, I was thinking something like 1 week Radar, 1 week S2. A bit tacky but seems ok I just wish I could have two SIM cards with the same number so I don't have to switch them.
Bump. Need more opinions.

I actually did this with an old phone too, and have a radar and this but leant the radar to a buddy. The radar is nice. Extremely user friendly, and all about simplicity. Before I got my gs2 I was rocking the hd2 with windows 7 also before I caught the android bug.
If your not a rom addict like everyone else here windows is the way to go. No headaches, about keeping up to date with the most current software.
The tiles on the windows phone and UI is just a genius idea imo and I'm liking the direction windows is headed. Music controls and web surfing is also a breeze.
I just cannot part with my gs2 strictly because of the screen size, and fun I'm having tweaking, customizing and trying new roms though.

I do not see why, it all depends on which one you like better.
I need help picking, I love the radar 4g and the lumia 710 but they don't support micro SD card!(8g of memory won't work for me). Im thinking about getting the dvp(dell venue pro) but I need some window phone owner input!.
Don't want to purchase an unlock phone due to me not being able to use 3G or 4G.
I will be purchasing this phone second hand due to the fact window 8 phone around the corner just want to spend sometime with a window phone to see how it goes! Thanks

There's a good thread here that is worth reading.
If you decide to get a DVP, make sure you are familiar with the process before changing the micro SD card - there are lots of threads about this topic on the DVP forum. You can expand the capacity to 32GB by replacing the micro SD card.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=799
There are different versions of the DVP for AT&T and T-Mobile. It may not matter as much if you can't use 3G but worth mentioning.
The DVP was my second wp7 device and after they fixed all of the bugs was a major love affair. Had Nokia not brought such outstanding offerings to the table, I'd still be using the DVP, that thing was a beautiful tank.
Look on Craigslist for an HD7...you can upgrade to 32GB and it has the latest software...unless T-Mo comes out with something slick, I'll be rocking this for quite a while!
Will be looking into both device. Anyone else want to put in there two cents?
Sent from my myTouch_4G_Slide using xda premium
My vote goes to the DVP. I get the privilege of using a lot of devices, and after Mango the DVP is still my favourite WP7 device. It's heavy and the camera is pretty mediocre, but it oozes quality and is the only portrait QWERTY slider available. Helps that the keyboard is awesome, too!
Also, they're very cheap these days. Especially the T-Mobile banded ones.
The DVP looks really boss. I didn't get one basically because I was unsure about the presence of the Italian locale and the 256mbs of RAM got me worried. Also, I didn't really rely on Dell's commitment to WP7, so I was unsure about the update pattern. The 710 is a good and reliable phone too, it has Nokia goods on board and the screen is actually ok. The design is a little uninspiring tho. Just personal opinion, my gf actually likes it better than my 800, she finds it too squared 0.o

IMHO they use it only because they are very accustomed to it. Last summer I tried using a 9780 for a few days and coming from a Desire I found it the most painful phone experience I ever had. The interface is unintuitive as hell, you need to hit the keys dozens of times just to do things that can be done in a couple of taps even on the worse Symbian device. The browser is pathetic, everything keeps lagging and freezing 24/7 and there are no decent apps at all. Also, if you lack BIS and BES this phone is as good as a 3310. Lame, horrid experience. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, it's a nightmare. Maybe the newer phones (like the 9900) are better, but forget about having any support: they won't be updated to BBOS10, and probably RIM will manage to fail even before the end of 2012.

The HD7 is a solid phone,I've been rocking it since November. Only problem I have with it is if I'm in my house or bedroom especially when trying to stream something, if I put my hand anywhere near the base my connection drops to 2G. Probably has something to do with the trees around my brick house or the poor antenna in the phone.

Before i buy this phone will my current SIM card work with the dell venue pro?
Yes, of course, assuming you don't buy one that is SIM-locked to a different carrier for some reason.
Note that if you want lots of hacks, the Venue Pro is not a good choice. As far as I know, we haven't even managed to interop-unlock it yet. The HD7 (and most other gen1 phones, but not the Venue Pro) can use custom ROMs and WP7 Root Tools.

I had a lumia 900 (well, technically still have it) and really liked the speed and fluidity of Windows Mobile. I think it is an excellent OS. I also think that the OP will enjoy having both OS's on hand to tinker with. I have iOS, WM and Android here and they are all fun to play with in their own right. Nothing wrong with trying the latest and greatest from a competitor out. :good:

Good luck! I had a WP7 phone and it just wasn't enough for my needs (limited apps on the app store being one of the major factors), but I do miss the stability and fluidity of that OS... if all you're looking for is a basic smartphone, Windows phones are actually really nice... Of course, most everyone here is looking to hack or modify their phone in some way, and for that, Windows phones kinda suck.
I wanna try Windows phones again. The last one I had was an old HTC one. I'm worried that I won't like it though.

GF Has samsung focus windows phone 7. I couldn't ever switch to it. But hopefully windows phone 8 will gain in popularity.

I wanted to give windows another try so I got another, after a week with this phone is boring! Marketplace sucks, limited apps, no smart dailing, can't disable SMS notifications, the list goes on and on. (Damn you android you've spoiled me!)

Don't know if L920 will make your experience any better if you have so many complains about the platform.

I totally agree with you...
I got my Lumia 900 while my Galaxy Note was on warranty repairs and just to see what was the deal with Windows Phone 7.5 (after many years since I last used Windows Mobile Professional) and at first it was a nice experience after using Android, but after 30 minutes I consumed the whole OS and found it very boring and lacking.
Yes, I think Android got us really spoiled...
Right now I'm just waiting for WP 7.8 just to check it out (I know, I'm not expecting much either), but I know I will sell this baby really soon!
If at least we could root it and modify it like the Lumia 800, then I might keep it. But since the AT&T Lumia 900 modding scene is pretty much defunct, i don't expect things to change for the good, so Craigslist is the way to go.
Cheers!
