HTC Radar vs This Phone - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Hey guys, before you say this is in the wrong forum, I'm trying to get a standpoint on people who use THIS PHONE. I would appreciate it if you only answer if you have this phone and a windows phone 7.5 you can compare with. I just got my Radar today because the Windows Phone Challenge (Phones came in today) and I'm contemplating which to use as my primary phone right now.

I got the radar for my sister a few months back. I like it. A lot of times I wish I had my own windows phone to use on and off. The gs2 has always just been an ok phone to me. If you have them both you will prob be switching on and off just cause you can. Both equally nice for daily use.

Yeah, I was thinking something like 1 week Radar, 1 week S2. A bit tacky but seems ok I just wish I could have two SIM cards with the same number so I don't have to switch them.

Bump. Need more opinions.

I actually did this with an old phone too, and have a radar and this but leant the radar to a buddy. The radar is nice. Extremely user friendly, and all about simplicity. Before I got my gs2 I was rocking the hd2 with windows 7 also before I caught the android bug.
If your not a rom addict like everyone else here windows is the way to go. No headaches, about keeping up to date with the most current software.
The tiles on the windows phone and UI is just a genius idea imo and I'm liking the direction windows is headed. Music controls and web surfing is also a breeze.
I just cannot part with my gs2 strictly because of the screen size, and fun I'm having tweaking, customizing and trying new roms though.

Galaxy nexus beat windows phone

World demands justice for Galaxy Nexus owner who 'beat' Windows Phone
I knew we had a fast phone and this proves it.

Huh?
Sent from the future.
Thread of the decade.
http://www.talkandroid.com/102027-galaxy-nexus-owner-beats-windows-phone-in-windows-phone-challenge/
I use both and eash OS has it's strengths and weaknesses. I actually prefer WP to Android except for my dirty little shame: Every Nexus I get turns into a portable torrent box. And since I don't have a computer this is my all in one. And they did a fantastic job with Android Chrome, I must admit.
But this pissing contest **** has got to stop.
Why can't people except that in some areas on different OS's will always be better. Some hardware specs will always be better. That's life. Personally? I root for a three horse race. Each OS, Android, iOS, and WP all pushing and pulling to stay ahead.
The end result? The consumer wins.
Bravo sir.. bravo

I am a Windows developer and I don't like metro stuff at all. Guess we are going to get stuck with it but I absolutely hat eto be forced into any UI...
I LOVE MY GNEX!
Does anyone actually by Windows Phones?
I think Microsoft really dropped the ball. They were one of the few in the mobile smartphone game with their windows mobile platform. It was a true multitasking device that was capable of doing almost anything.
Then the iPhone came out and basically did less then WM phones just made things prettier. Know instead of Microsoft stepping up their game with their age looking UI they just hung back for a while.
Then came Android, which almost feels like it would have been the natural succession for Microsoft except they just waited. So all of us WM phone users started to jump over to Android. Now we are so happy there, why would we want to even try a Windows phone.

So, how many Windows Shell replacements have you done? Because you're basically forced into the current Windows look.
I agree, I hate metro, too, but you've been 'forced into a UI' for a long time.
im going to try this, any tips to which rom to use?

Yep. At any given time I tend to have three or so and swap back and forth. Right now? Main EDC is a stock GN with a back up 4s. The 900 is my next and I'm considering a SGS3. If the SGS3 has TW puked onto it, that's out. I sell the 4s and move into the 5. If I find a Titan 2 cheap I may grab one to play with it. (Forgot to mention I'm still looking for a Finny.)
I love Mobiles.
I had an interesting 'battle' with a windows rep today. I beat her hands down loading a webpage. She wasn't very happy.
But she did beat me updating a Facebook status.

Want to buy a window 7 phone(tmobile)

I need help picking, I love the radar 4g and the lumia 710 but they don't support micro SD card!(8g of memory won't work for me). Im thinking about getting the dvp(dell venue pro) but I need some window phone owner input!.
Don't want to purchase an unlock phone due to me not being able to use 3G or 4G.
I will be purchasing this phone second hand due to the fact window 8 phone around the corner just want to spend sometime with a window phone to see how it goes! Thanks

There's a good thread here that is worth reading.
If you decide to get a DVP, make sure you are familiar with the process before changing the micro SD card - there are lots of threads about this topic on the DVP forum. You can expand the capacity to 32GB by replacing the micro SD card.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=799
There are different versions of the DVP for AT&T and T-Mobile. It may not matter as much if you can't use 3G but worth mentioning.
The DVP was my second wp7 device and after they fixed all of the bugs was a major love affair. Had Nokia not brought such outstanding offerings to the table, I'd still be using the DVP, that thing was a beautiful tank.
Look on Craigslist for an HD7...you can upgrade to 32GB and it has the latest software...unless T-Mo comes out with something slick, I'll be rocking this for quite a while!
Will be looking into both device. Anyone else want to put in there two cents?
Sent from my myTouch_4G_Slide using xda premium
My vote goes to the DVP. I get the privilege of using a lot of devices, and after Mango the DVP is still my favourite WP7 device. It's heavy and the camera is pretty mediocre, but it oozes quality and is the only portrait QWERTY slider available. Helps that the keyboard is awesome, too!
Also, they're very cheap these days. Especially the T-Mobile banded ones.
The DVP looks really boss. I didn't get one basically because I was unsure about the presence of the Italian locale and the 256mbs of RAM got me worried. Also, I didn't really rely on Dell's commitment to WP7, so I was unsure about the update pattern. The 710 is a good and reliable phone too, it has Nokia goods on board and the screen is actually ok. The design is a little uninspiring tho. Just personal opinion, my gf actually likes it better than my 800, she finds it too squared 0.o

IMHO they use it only because they are very accustomed to it. Last summer I tried using a 9780 for a few days and coming from a Desire I found it the most painful phone experience I ever had. The interface is unintuitive as hell, you need to hit the keys dozens of times just to do things that can be done in a couple of taps even on the worse Symbian device. The browser is pathetic, everything keeps lagging and freezing 24/7 and there are no decent apps at all. Also, if you lack BIS and BES this phone is as good as a 3310. Lame, horrid experience. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, it's a nightmare. Maybe the newer phones (like the 9900) are better, but forget about having any support: they won't be updated to BBOS10, and probably RIM will manage to fail even before the end of 2012.

The HD7 is a solid phone,I've been rocking it since November. Only problem I have with it is if I'm in my house or bedroom especially when trying to stream something, if I put my hand anywhere near the base my connection drops to 2G. Probably has something to do with the trees around my brick house or the poor antenna in the phone.

Before i buy this phone will my current SIM card work with the dell venue pro?
Yes, of course, assuming you don't buy one that is SIM-locked to a different carrier for some reason.
Note that if you want lots of hacks, the Venue Pro is not a good choice. As far as I know, we haven't even managed to interop-unlock it yet. The HD7 (and most other gen1 phones, but not the Venue Pro) can use custom ROMs and WP7 Root Tools.

Really thinking about getting a Nexus but...

I currently have a g2x still, however it is driving me insane lately. It really chaps my arse paying so much each month for a phone that is just so buggy. My biggest gripe although not huge to alot of people is the gps on the thing. It SUCKS. always has. Anyway that is my question, How is the gps on the nexus. I used to use navigation quite a bit on my phone but since the g2x sucks I can't really use it. I'm sorry if there are many posts about it but I'm on vacation and my internet time is very limited. (wife and kids are napping. lol) Thanks for any advise guys.
GPS works fine.
Not the best but still works awesome. No complaints.
butter and jelly please...
My wife literally locks on within 5 seconds, even when I'm in my house heading out. It was much faster for sure than my G2 (previous phone).
GPS on GN is excelent

The GPS hardware on the GN is really accurate, my complaint is with the way it handles phone calls when you are using navigation. When a call comes in the phone app jumps to the foreground, when the phone call ends the phone app stays up. To add insult to injury the screen then goes blank. I've gone back to my Garmin.

GNEX gps is lightning.
Out of the box it was quicker than any i had used before.
After installing AOKP and radio xxla2 i can lock on to 7-10 satellites (normally 8or9) in well under 10 sec's.
I believe it is a European radio, but I live in New Zealand and was recently in Thailand which locked on to 7/8 satellites in under 10 sec's
I have now installed the JB radio with the same results but a better phone signal.
Thanks for the responses guys. It kinda irks me to buy a phone add old as the nexus... But it's a great deal IMO, and I really need something. This G2x is driving me crazy.

The hardware is oldish and has lower specs than some phones now....
But probably the fist phone to receive 4.1 + 4.1.1
The support for the phone is fantastic and the dev's here at xda are non-stop adding features, stability and speed.
Tools, Roms, Kernels, Radios.... will be developed on this phone first.
Outta the box a good phone, the guys at xda make it a f#%*$n great phone.
I just got mine a month ago. My requirements were AMOLED and 720p screen, and the Nexus is still my choice if I were to buy one now. The only time I'll be feeling the need to upgrade again is when they release a phone with an AMOLED 720p using the RGB sub pixel layout. In the Nexus line anyways, I can't be on the update backburner now after being first in line.
processor/gpu, meh, it's a touchscreen only phone, I don't use it for high end gaming. Otherwise all the high end phones perform pretty damn similar the rest of the time, regardless whether it's quad or dual core.
Ordered it this morning. Now I'll play the waiting game.

This phone's specs have been passed and will be floored by others in the next year, but as a Nexus phone, it'll always be relevant.

That's kinda what I was thinking. I love the droid for the open environment and customization. I've only briefly played with the iPhone but liked it. Just not sure if I would like it for the long term. I'm always customizing my phone and flashing roms constantly. I think I would miss that after a while.

Hey, I've been living with a iPod Touch as a make shift phone and it has its ups and downs. The up being the MP3 player of the iPod being far superior, the down is the hell called iTunes. Question: Can I live with iTunes? Ans: I may buy a gun, put one bullet through my PC and then probably me too before I can answer that question with a straight face and say yes. And no. I miss a lot of Android. The copied notification shade is a big sham (though they implemented it different to Android, I can't make it work like I can on the Droid.) you can't access the memory like on the Droid, each app can see only their stuff. No co-operation on the phone. No centralized accounts thingy. All things google can hang themselves. Nah, I give me a Nexus any day. A Dix will be fine too. Only thing I like on iOS is some of their gui graphics (only some, not all) as they look so glossy and chewable. I think that can be taken care of using MIUI.
Side note: Their new Maps seems to have a nicer interface (appearance wise) than Gmaps, but at least for now has no transit routes. Which is all I use maps for. Google should polish its Navigation app. The google maps app on the other hand looks clean and perfect on the Droid. (TL;DR)
Last year my wife got an iPhone and I got my Dinc2. I had very little in the way of iPhone envy and after I rooted and installed ICS, I had none whatsoever. My wife is pretty tech savvy, but she just wants things to work; I love to tinker. Over the past year, it's really been eye-opening for both of us because she struggles to change settings or do things that I don't even have to think about on my Android phone. She's regularly frustrated by Apple's control - even after jailbreaking. The iPad is even worse. I was tempted when the iPhone 4S came out, but after our experiences this year, me with my Dinc2 and her with the iPhone, I'm Android all the way. Even though I'm a die-hard Mac user, I wouldn't buy an iPhone or an iPad. Just my 2 cents.

Hair wondering when you had the iPod touch ? The new ios has where you can interconnect some accounts like fb, Twitter, and instagram which is all most people do anyways. Also, what kind of hell is iTunes? Just wondering on that one. But instead of saying they don't do something or lack an option android has make sure you jailbreak and look for the apps. It's not fair to compare rooted android vs stock ios.
