I've had mine for about a week now (came from and EVO) I have no complaints whats so ever........... Your mileage may vary.......
Its a good device coming from the Evo. Its has a few issues like the Loss of service, but I did experience that until I rooted the device so I dont blame it on the phone.
The one problem that I do have is that it wont play most games for more than 10 to 15 minutes. But I use it for reading more than anything else and sprint and samsung are suppose to be releasing a patch next month.
I would say stop calling it the SGS2 (which, I know, it is) and get used to ET4G. If for nothing else than to know that if something is labeled SGS2 that you should. not. flash. it.
As far as QWERTY goes? Pffft. I was so worried when I got my Evo that I was going to miss QWERTY. I didn't have the Hero long enough to get used to it, then I got the Moment and got used to it (that keyboard sucked anway)....but the transition took, oh, a week or two. That was a year and a half ago and I've never regretted ditching the real keyboard. There are hundreds of 'em. Find one you like. I go back and forth between Swype and SwiftkeyX and can haul major ass on both....especially Swype. SwiftKeyX is totally worth whatever it costs. If you let it read your texts, emails and Facebook posts it's prediction is simply amazing. You barely even have to try being precise.
This phone is the epic now... If you like your keyboard, turn the phone landscape, then the keys r bigger than my gfs physical keys on the og epic

I got it last Tuesday and love the phone and size. Im using the "Go Launcher" and LOVE IT, amazing how easily it is to make your beautiful looking and functional. The only problem Im having is LOS. And battery life is not that good either but , what can you expect from a dual Core phone with a big ass screen. You can tweak it with SetCpu. But Im still trying to find the best configuration so i can have a optimal battery life.
But i must say the phone is amazing and also it also lets you uninstall a lot of the preloaded apps without rooting, something other phones and carriers wont permit.
I am also getting this phone... just ordered it tonight.. should be here no later than Wed!
I'll be switching from the Moment and lack of a physical keyboard was also something I was wondering about. Hence why I sub'd to this thread.. I wanna see what y'all have to say.

If you are coming from the Moment you will love this device. I had the moment for 6 months but I had to get rid of it because I hated it. I went to the and loved that until my charger port broke. Got this as a replacement. This is better than the Evo, considering the screen is excellent. Also it is so much lighter and thinner than the Evo and Touchwiz is not as bad as people make it out to be.
The only problem with it that I have had is the sound bug which causes some games to just quit.

I hate the fact that the phone is technically the GS2 ET4G, like... wtf? why so many names? lol. and I am very much against flashing my phones. I've had nothing but bad experiences with it. so I will not be doing it to my new phone. thanks for the info

Here's a little devil's advocate.
I bought the ET4G on a whim after seeing it on Craigslist for an attractive price. After using it for a week, it's going back on Craigslist and I am using my OG Epic again w/ the new Gingerbread release (and physical keyboard fixes!).
While the ET4G certainly offers a snappier Android experience and a better camera than the OG Epic, I didn't find the boost in speed or extra screen real estate to be worth the $325 I paid for the device. I think the only speed boost worth writing home about was the speed of the ET4G's stock browser. Lastly, the audio quality of SGSII is inferior to SGSI and in all honesty not worthy of a high end smartphone - this was the deal breaker for me.
Considering that you already have the OG Epic, I'd wait until the middle of next year so you can get a killer future-proof 720p LTE phone at a fully discounted price. All that said, the ET4G is still a great device!

That's one reason I haven't taken the plunge (though I tried once, and the guy at the store said he couldn't mess with my plan). When I played with it at the store, it wouldn't rotate. Meanwhile, some of the apps (especially the camera app) would go landscape and not go back. Anyone else have that problem?

Coming from a HTC Sensation here.. Was a bit worried with some of the initial previews and complaints, but damn I'm happy with my GN!
Major pros from my perspective:
- Absolutely stunning screen.
- ICS is the bomb. No need for a Sense-like skin to get a fantastic user experience.
- Pleased with battery life (ALOT better than my sensation)
- Software buttons IMHO are perfect. Not wasting space for HW buttons with basically less functionality. Have to admit tho that when I bad flash the framework I'm a bit crippled but this is a minor disadvantage imo.
- Awesome development already! Even tho ICS is in early release status.
- No crappy/broken & late sourcecode releases

Sweet!
I'm very happy with my GNex as well. Coming from a fascinate it's like having my phone but more solidly built, with 4G, and full google support. I'm really pretty impressed that verizion got 4G out here to my little town and got this phone for us. I'm way more impressed with all the good devs out there that are working on this phone.
I know it's going to be a run ride!
I just wanna say that I'm extremely pleased with my Verizon branded galaxy nexus, I know the battery life is crap, I know the launch was all screwed up, I know it has those vertical lines that everyone seems to Really notice, I know it has a two dollar plastic backing that They feels cheap, I see that it doesn't say Google on the back but verizon 4g lte, I realize that my update my come a week or two later after verizon approves it, I see that the camera is five megs and not eight like everyone else..... Tell me something I don't know.
I love this Phone. Best thus far. Its a benchmark device. No phone that I've seen has these very responsive buttons on the bottom. Love em!! Hey, they just work. Ain't that what they say about their product? Screen makes you wanna google something, don't it? Mostly everything is integrated into the software design of the phone. I understand the problems we are experiencing but cmon, no device is without this or that. Besides it will be fixed very shortly. Patience!! Best phone out. Benchmark Android.!!
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I couldn't be happier with this phone. I don't see any vertical banding, the phone is very snappy and responsive (then again I had an OG droid and a droid eris). The only issue I have yet to have is maybe not so great LTE connectivity, but the guy at Verizon told me it wasn't too great in this area yet and should leave it in CDMA mode unless I am near philly. When I did get a 4g signal it was great, but not a full signal. I got downloads of 18mbps, 13 mbps, 10mbps and the lowest being 6mbps in no order and at different times and places. The camera take AMAZING pictures outside and with great light, however it becomes slow(blurry) and grainy in low light (this makes sense). The first brand new phone I bought was the first Storm blackberry that actually served me well until it killed itself. What I liked about the storm, or blackberries in general, is how the received email. Neither of my droids did this so well, I would get old mail notifications, it would double up on mail, and mail would come in late to the phone even if I had it to receive every 15mins or less. This phone, however, is great! I receive everything promptly.
In addition, I just got the extended battery... I know its not a lot but it helps. Also, as reported by other users, it makes the phone much nicer to feel in your hand. The added weight and curvature of the backing makes it fit really nice. Since I use the phone quite a bit, i was hoping the battery will help it last through the day (I am not expecting this phone to last me days) but so far it has been much better than my OG droid has been to me. The large screen may eat battery but its hard not to look at .
I am glad many other people seem to like it after listening to a lot of complaints that seem to be largely unfounded anecdotal evidence or from bloated demo phones in stores that probably have had 10 programs open all day at once. (I will agree though that the phone can get hot, but I don't think to the point that I couldn't hold it anymore... just sweaty palms.)
PSS: also, lag??? what lag?
I'm happy as well. However, I came from an OG Droid and almost anything is a step up from that.
I did mess with the Samsung Galaxy S II, Droid RAZR, and a few other high end phones, but the feel of the Galaxy Nexus takes the cake in my opinion.

really love your review. Hope I will be as happy with mine. I am coming from the D1, and I loved it a lot, rooted with GB. I got my GN yesterday, but waiting until Christmas to open it. Gift from the wife, and have to keep her happy. I am making her wait to open her new White, 64gig 3g iPad2
Question: have you got any updates yet? Have read of several problems, one being a bug in the signal strength, and something about the rocker volume.
How is your reception so far. I know that depends on a lot and if you even have 4g. I live in the Washington DC area, so pretty good 4g here. I will report back when I have spend time with my GN. Can't wait!!!
BTW, Verizon has pretty good reviews there. Thanks for sharing, and glad you love yours Thanks!
Add me to the pile of happy customers. I can't seem to put it down and that is what's killing my battery. If I use it under normal circumstances, I expect it will last long enough. I ordered a secondary battery to carry with me for a quick swap.
ICS is very refined in comparison to previous releases. Only feature I miss from HTC Sense is the ability to merge contacts from multiple places (Corporate Email, Facebook, Twitter) into one entry per person. Google Wallet rocks, if only it supported my credit cards.
Viva GNex!

For understanding the Signal Strength I recommend Anandtech's Investigation as a starting point. That being said, I have no complaints about signal strength but I did have an issue with the phone not routing data. It occurred on both Wifi and 4G. Had to reboot the phone to fix it. It showed a signal during the problem.

I sold my Galaxy S2 yesterday so with the extra cash I acquired, I'm set on purchasing the Nexus since it always has insane developer support.
My only gripe is, I've been observing these forums for a while and I can't help but to see countless posts and many threads about problems with this phone.
I've read from phones boot-looping for no reason, screen issues, and other hardware defects that makes me wonder where Samsung's quality management has gone...
So I want to hear from you guys, have you had any problems/replacements/RMAs? I really want to get this phone but the problems are slowly wearing my wants.
Oh, and also it's extra hard since I won't be able to have warranty of some sort or have easy returns since my buying choices so far are amazon and ebay...
Forums are meant for people to discuss problems and complain.. I'm sure there are thousands of people who have no problems at all. People don't come to forums like this one to discuss how awesome their phone is. I have the GSM and my fiance has the verzion version and we haven't experienced many of the things discussed here.
Its the best phone on the market right now. Go get it!

Okay, well up until I got my Galaxy Note yesterday I thought this was the most beautiful screen I'd ever seen. Don't ever do a side-by-side to the Note because the awe will wear off very quickly. The Galaxy Nexus has very obvious banding at lower brightness levels although you won't really see any blobs. (I haven't anyway.) The lack of SD card won't immediately bother you but sooner or later it will cross your mind. The phone does have a tendency to occasionally and randomly reboot. I haven't had the issue in a couple weeks although before that it was happening at least once a day for a couple weeks. Some games on the Galaxy Nexus have multi touch issues. Screen-on time will be significantly shorter than that of the GS2. (About 4 hours is the max.) Other than that, I would still recommend it. I've never looked back after getting rid of my GS2 but I feel you should know the facts before making a decision and potentially being unhappy about it. If you have more questions, I'll be glad to answer if possible.

Well, just dont buy anything second hand. dont wanna land yourself a first batch gnex. the first batch are the ones with the most problems, especially the screen. the made in china ones are the newer batch and seem to have sorted out some screen problems. not everything made in china is bad these days lol.
anyways, had my phone for less than a month, and 85% of the time i spent flashing LOL. enjoy the nexus!

No Probs
I have the gnex and have to say that I have no complaints except for the radios and battery life on 4g. Call quality isnt as good as my old droidx, but the 4.0.4 radios seem to have helped a little.
Other than that i love this phone, I've thought about trading for a razr but I just cant bring myself to do it. There are not enough advantages of doing so. I have had no random reboots or other quirky issues.
Ok my honest opinion. Coming from the fact I feel 50/50 about it. I wouldn't of bought it if i'd had two weeks to test it.
Pros:
Screen is excellent
ICS looks nice
Sound quality through headphones is good
Sat Nav works well
Cons:
Loudspeaker is far too quiet
Back cover creaks and clicks like cheap junk
Vibrate is not powerful enough
Graphics in apps & games are a little slow and laggy
Camera is average at best.
Most of the plus points of the phone I would say are thanks to ICS, most of the cons of the device are hardware, in my opinion.

Not trying to be a fanboi here but there are some flaws with what you are saying.
I have had 3 different GNexus's and none of them have had this terrible banding issue that everyone is talking about. Maybe I am blind, maybe I am stupid, but this is just a non issue for me.
I have yet (In 4 months of owning the device) to have a problem with not having an SD Card. Not having to worry about an SD Card failing and me losing all my backups actually makes me feel better/safer.
Never had a random reboot trying almost all the ROMs and most kernels out there (Maybe just lucky?)
Multi touch issue is a problem that was fixed in 4.0.4 and can also be fixed in 4.0.3 by turning your screen off and on.
Bigger screen, more pixels, probably brighter, of course screen on time will be less.
This phone has some issues but what you point out here are minor (In my case) and just want to give the OP both sides of the story.
I am just curious, I still have a good 9-10 days to return it and might as well if there is not going to be much dev support because even with this awesome hardware I know LG just plain sucks at software...
We should make a list, if you have one say so just so we can get a count of how many people have them.

I have it...I am not a dev and don't really care to root my phone...just want the Jelly Bean upgrade I'll be happy with this. Dropped my GSIII the other day...the deductible on the insurance was $199....I had an upgrade was going to get a new GSIII but started reading about this phone so I decided to give a shot...LOVE IT...don't regret getting this over another GSIII...as a matter of fact I like it better. Very happy with it.
I have it. My return deadline is this Friday. Might return it for the Nexus 4. Love the device. At&t wont unlock. Still undecided for now.

This exactly. I think my deadline is the 19th...
I'm not counting on att I'm hoping devs figure it out. But if we have to rely on LG jelly bean may never happen and this bloat is ridiculous, I'm pretty sure they never fixed the G2x only the custom roms did.

The bloat you can fix by rooting and using Titanium Backup. I'm fine with the phone, I just need to know that the bootloader will get unlocked, and there will be dev support. The entire xda section for this phone is dead. Not a good sign.
Exactly my worry, this place is a ghost town. And there is something very wrong with our stock OS. The battery usage is ridiculous and this chip should bench higher too.

The battery has been up and down for me. Twice I've had something get stuck that killed the battery, once it was the phone, and I hadn't made any calls that day. It was fine after a reboot. The android OS seems to keep it awake a bit much, and the phone is NEVER in deep sleep as much as other devices. Try eco mode?
Also, this thing is benching fine? Same as the Korean version? I posted a bunch of bench screens in the "show homescreen" thread. The N4 was benching horribly last time I was looking at reviews...
Well I guess my only comparison were the 10k quadrants the qualcomm dev system was putting up with this chip. But yeah I mean it is blazing fast, fastest phone I've ever seen... That's why I'm having such a hard time deciding.

This thing with its stock AT&T ICS rom, stock kernel, stock clocks, is benching about the same as my SGS3 was with a Jelly Bean ROM, kernel, and OCed to 1.7ghz. In some cases, its beating it. My friend has the Sprint SGS3 (krait dual core) and I'm obliterating him in benches. Browsermark is about the only thing he's even with.
As a phone, for normal people, is great. I could easily recommend this to friends. Battery life is the only thing we can debate on. For us? We need XDA dev support. I know for myself, I *have* to get back to Jelly Bean, and some form of AOSP rom. (I'm partial to AOKP)
So I have a week to see what's going to happen. Hopefully with the N4 coming out today, we'll see something. If its still a ghost town with no word by next week, I'm going to have to decided to either return it, and save my upgrade or sell it on XDA.

That dev board shows what the SoC is capable of, but no way will performance be the same on this. This already has thermal throttling issues, so pushing it too much would be crazy.

Exactly what I'm thinking, not because of dev support, but because there are many little issues I can't deal with with this phone. Either the Nexus 4 or the One X+.
Good luck getting a Nexus anytime soon, I tried AT launch this morning. Some members got some, others like myself spent 20 minutes trying over and over, getting lag and errors until the phone was removed from our carts, and is now sold out.
I tried. I have to return the LGOG by Monday... hopefully something happens by then.
This phone is brand new...you can't expect it to be PERFECT..its pretty close though lol. And all I see is people pointing out the bad. Battery life...you have 4 cores! Your phone isn't gonna get the battery life your used to..and benchmarks? Idk what you guys are pulling but I get 7500+. That's plenty fast for me. And LG is hurting. The OG is gonna make or break them. I think you need to have faith in this manufacturer. Its the first of its kind in the US. Its too big of a deal to not update. Mght be a couple months but for those of you who switch because of locked bootloader will regret with what I believe will come in the future. Jellybean will do wonders for the UI..which is not bad at all...I suggest you give this beast a chance..I don't think you will regret it.

Sure sure Mr LG employee! I do agree this phone will be the survival or death of their mobile. But my doubts come from owning prior LG devices, their problems were all software and never fixed by LG. It didn't matter though because we had a decent dev community, looked bootloaders though on an LG phone worry the hell out of me. This phone is a beast I love the build quality but I am still sceptical, I'm going to ride this ship though hopefully we steer clear of icebergs!

I can understand your concerns. I had the same thoughts..I almost considered switching to the one x+, but I would regret it if (and I'm sure it will) upgrade to 4.1 or possibly jb and 4.2. I think this is their changing point.

I was rooting for the nexus 4 but when it came out with no lte and no expandable memory I opted for the next best thing at the time which was LG optimus g hoping developement would be therefore it. And thankfully it seems to be the case so :good:!
I have had this device a little over a week and i love it i get way better battery life than i did oit of my atrix 2 and so far nothing i due can produce lag the phone responds as fast as i can touch the screen i love my device i think build quality is second to none and my city launched lte recently so with 40 mb plus download speeds i think this device is supurb i have rooted and installed custom roms on every device i have owned but so far with the optimus g i see no need to my only complaint is the camera i feel it could be better but hey its still a phone !

I am loving this phone. Its incredibly fast and responsive I have only managed to lag it with Testla LED (oddly Flashlight works fine).
Not a huge fan of LG's UI choice (I would have rather had a dark theme, but its not that big of a deal.) Hopefully we get an official Cyanogen port down the road.

I just picked up my OG yesterday. This is my first Android phone in awhile. I've previously had a G1 and Sprint HTC Hero. I'm coming from an iPhone 5 I smashed in frustration after dealing with Apple's dumb customer service reps for a week regarding a SIM not valid error after updating to iOS 6.0.1.

I picked up my OG used on eBay for $160 a month ago. I had minimal expectations. I shattered my GS3 and with no warranty and a full year of contract left before my upgrade I needed something affordable and still high-end-ish. I settled on this mostly because of it's quad processor and 13 mp camera [a camera which I to this day had maybe 20 minutes of actual fully functional use of] I was crazy apprehensive of going to a phone with no removal battery or sd slot. These were some of the things I loved the most and lorded them over my iPhone touting friends. But here I was. Me! Knowing my download limitations waaaay in advance. Me! Unable to just pull the cover off and tap the battery out to fix sudden crashes. It was madness at it's finest.
Then suddenly I started to grow to love this thing. The thin, light-weight body. The bright screen. The native (non-Samsung) Android menu key positions. The modest xda community. Something about having a device that next to no one knows about is refreshing.
This device makes me feel like I have some non-amazing super powers just waiting to bust out.
Now if only I could get some damned 4G around here....
Or an official update to the latest JB

Thanks! Yea, no regrets here. I work at a ****ty Staples selling phones, and my only prior LG smartphone experience was with the LG L9 which is a massive pile. Definitely a diamond in the rough here.

Very cool man. This here phone of ours is a beast and based on specs, might be future proofed for some time yet. It certainly won't compete on a raw power basis with some of what's rolling off assembly lines even today, but it will be able to run just about everything we throw at it competently for quite some time.

I know right!
The day before i traded an evo 3d for a iphone 4s with 9 months of applecare+ and apple gave me a brand new one the next day
Welcome! This is a great phone!
I just got my lgog and I'm loving it. I've had it for a week and upgraded from an og evo that wasn't really so mobile anymore. Somehow a capacitor blew on my motherboard so my phone would last randomly between 20 minutes and 2 hours, randomly shut off when battery showed 40-80% so I was tethered to my charger lol. Oh well this phone is amazing. I rooted and unlocked it the day after I got it haha
Got mine yesterday, 170 bucks. clean esn, all the plastic on it still, cords/tags/etc still sealed.
guy was leaving sprint and wanted to get some quick money

i tried to earlier. my main desktop is out of commission until i get a new PSU, my current computer is single core 2gb and takes more than 20 mins to compile a kernel (im used to under 4). when i get it back up and running ill consider doing a stock based kernel (i have yet to find a reason to flash aosp on my device) and ill see how im feeling then.
