But I only just got my LGOG - Sprint LG Optimus G

I picked up my OG used on eBay for $160 a month ago. I had minimal expectations. I shattered my GS3 and with no warranty and a full year of contract left before my upgrade I needed something affordable and still high-end-ish. I settled on this mostly because of it's quad processor and 13 mp camera [a camera which I to this day had maybe 20 minutes of actual fully functional use of] I was crazy apprehensive of going to a phone with no removal battery or sd slot. These were some of the things I loved the most and lorded them over my iPhone touting friends. But here I was. Me! Knowing my download limitations waaaay in advance. Me! Unable to just pull the cover off and tap the battery out to fix sudden crashes. It was madness at it's finest.
Then suddenly I started to grow to love this thing. The thin, light-weight body. The bright screen. The native (non-Samsung) Android menu key positions. The modest xda community. Something about having a device that next to no one knows about is refreshing.
This device makes me feel like I have some non-amazing super powers just waiting to bust out.
Now if only I could get some damned 4G around here....

Or an official update to the latest JB

Thanks! Yea, no regrets here. I work at a ****ty Staples selling phones, and my only prior LG smartphone experience was with the LG L9 which is a massive pile. Definitely a diamond in the rough here.

Very cool man. This here phone of ours is a beast and based on specs, might be future proofed for some time yet. It certainly won't compete on a raw power basis with some of what's rolling off assembly lines even today, but it will be able to run just about everything we throw at it competently for quite some time.

The day before i traded an evo 3d for a iphone 4s with 9 months of applecare+ and apple gave me a brand new one the next day

Welcome! This is a great phone!

I just got my lgog and I'm loving it. I've had it for a week and upgraded from an og evo that wasn't really so mobile anymore. Somehow a capacitor blew on my motherboard so my phone would last randomly between 20 minutes and 2 hours, randomly shut off when battery showed 40-80% so I was tethered to my charger lol. Oh well this phone is amazing. I rooted and unlocked it the day after I got it haha

Got mine yesterday, 170 bucks. clean esn, all the plastic on it still, cords/tags/etc still sealed.
guy was leaving sprint and wanted to get some quick money

i tried to earlier. my main desktop is out of commission until i get a new PSU, my current computer is single core 2gb and takes more than 20 mins to compile a kernel (im used to under 4). when i get it back up and running ill consider doing a stock based kernel (i have yet to find a reason to flash aosp on my device) and ill see how im feeling then.

My job just got me a new phone SGSIII! Way better than the on call Blackberry

Came in today to find a SGS3 on my desk woot! I like ICS wish it had Jelly bean, but it's great so far. I gotta get this an xoskin right after work, woot for a company card. I have had a Blackberry Bold for an on call phone and I guess my complaints didnt fall on deaf ears. The thing had issues, I dont even know where they got it. The sticker on the back says property of research in motion limited. It was like some demo blackberry haha. Just waiting for exchange to sync, then I will customize it. What average battery life should I expect? I had like 3 spare batteries on my old evo, as long as I can get 8 hours I should be good.

You can get jellybean, there's a couple good stable ROMs. I'm using baked black bean 5 right now and it does well, you can use team venum's jellybean ROM because its touchwiz, although I really don't like touchwiz(thought it was great until I tried normal android without it)oh and jellybean would require root unless you wait for the official update which is supposed to be this month.
I'm on stock unrooted(for now at least) and I can go from 7 am to 10 pm with about 6 or 7 hours of screen on time and still have around 20 percent left.

Anyone here getting a Nexus 4?

$300 Unlocked
Qualcomm Snapdragon(TM) S4 Pro
2GB RAM
Android 4.2
Software from Google.
hell, when my contract with T Mobile expire on Jan I'll just drop them and get this baby.
LG made, kinda not excited, but for $300 this thing sounds like a steal. But comparing this with $600 for SGS 3 or Note II, the choice if obvious.
Edit: The lack of microSD sucks. But I can live with it (probably)
Hmm, I was hoping for an HTC One X+, but this sounds more exciting.
I looked at this- I would rather have a microSD slot, otherwise, it looks like fun. For the price, it's a fair consideration for a Nexus device. In full disclosure, I did just buy a Relay 4G- it's still unopened in the box.
However, I am planning on getting a Nexus 10, even without the microSD.
I thinking about it. For the Specs and that price its hard to past.

The developers at xda are awesome and I will still be a frequent visitor no matter what. But having a Nexus phone from Google might mean that I don't have to play with my phone to make it work anymore.

Man, why're you getting it on contract for $200 while off-contract it's only $350?
I am turning my Classic Plan to Value Plan, cost $20 less per month. That will pay for the price difference in 8 months and save me $250 over the next 2 years.

you can have more than one battery.... if its stuck in the fone once its flat its useless
Another negative about a non removable battery is if something is hanging your phone you can't pull the battery. I kind of like the looks of the phone but no sd card slot? Kinda odd. Coming up on my upgrade in december and I may have to go into tmobile and play with one and see about getting it so long as the mod community is there. Anyone here bought a phone off contract from google before? If so how was the experiance?

I just want moar power!! G2 is still the best phone I've ever used thou

I have come to accept the fact that the G3 is not coming. If I have to go without a physical keyboard then getting a Nexus device is the next best thing. That said, I can get this off contract, and if Tmobile gets a high end phone with a physical keyboard in a year or so I can get back on contract to get it.

You never need to do a battery pull. Read up on how to hard shut off devices without removable batteries (like all tablets).
Every single device I've ever bought has been off contract and buying from Google is just like any other. My Nexus 7 is great, but while my Samsung Galaxy S III isn't Google, I run the exact same rom on it as I do on my n7. It was also quicker/easier to root and install a custom rom on my sgs3, plus it has 80gb internal storage (16gb+64gb, am using 42gb of that space as of this post) vs the extremely limited space on my n7.
There are more accessories for the sgs3 than the n7 and development wise roughly the same roms (maybe more if you count touchwiz).
Granted my sgs3 on Android 4.1.2 has a bug my nexus 7 doesn't have (which doesn't affect me), but still those possibilities are important to consider.
I guess my point is that passing on a non Google device for a nexus really isn't that obvious (to me anyway). I have more storage, faster network speeds, a removable battery (multiple ones even), and greater accessory selection. I use the same rom for both devices and both are unlocked and off contract. However, and this is a big deal for some people, I paid probably $200 more for my sgs3 than I would for the nexus 4.
Always consider the potential developer community but more importantly consider the manufacturer and the phone itself. Personally I've never had a good experience with LG hardware in the past, so if I were considering the n4 I would have to see tests and testimonials of people using it in real world situations, but there are some things that scare me just from what's been put out there already.
How fragile is that glass back? The one on the Optimus G broke within days on a reviewer who babied his device and had no idea how it happened.
Can the wireless charging work with a case? I know all phones with inductive charging currently can't..
Lastly, how bad on the battery is that new screen of theirs? The Optimus G (same screen) got a lot of criticism for its bad battery life and excessive screen drain. Without the ability to swap batteries I can see it being a deal breaker for some.
Those are just my personal thoughts and opinions based on the 5 android devices I've owned though. Time will ultimately tell.

[Q] So how many people on here actually have this phone?

I am just curious, I still have a good 9-10 days to return it and might as well if there is not going to be much dev support because even with this awesome hardware I know LG just plain sucks at software...
We should make a list, if you have one say so just so we can get a count of how many people have them.

The bloat you can fix by rooting and using Titanium Backup. I'm fine with the phone, I just need to know that the bootloader will get unlocked, and there will be dev support. The entire xda section for this phone is dead. Not a good sign.
Exactly my worry, this place is a ghost town. And there is something very wrong with our stock OS. The battery usage is ridiculous and this chip should bench higher too.

The battery has been up and down for me. Twice I've had something get stuck that killed the battery, once it was the phone, and I hadn't made any calls that day. It was fine after a reboot. The android OS seems to keep it awake a bit much, and the phone is NEVER in deep sleep as much as other devices. Try eco mode?
Also, this thing is benching fine? Same as the Korean version? I posted a bunch of bench screens in the "show homescreen" thread. The N4 was benching horribly last time I was looking at reviews...
Well I guess my only comparison were the 10k quadrants the qualcomm dev system was putting up with this chip. But yeah I mean it is blazing fast, fastest phone I've ever seen... That's why I'm having such a hard time deciding.

This thing with its stock AT&T ICS rom, stock kernel, stock clocks, is benching about the same as my SGS3 was with a Jelly Bean ROM, kernel, and OCed to 1.7ghz. In some cases, its beating it. My friend has the Sprint SGS3 (krait dual core) and I'm obliterating him in benches. Browsermark is about the only thing he's even with.
As a phone, for normal people, is great. I could easily recommend this to friends. Battery life is the only thing we can debate on. For us? We need XDA dev support. I know for myself, I *have* to get back to Jelly Bean, and some form of AOSP rom. (I'm partial to AOKP)
So I have a week to see what's going to happen. Hopefully with the N4 coming out today, we'll see something. If its still a ghost town with no word by next week, I'm going to have to decided to either return it, and save my upgrade or sell it on XDA.

That dev board shows what the SoC is capable of, but no way will performance be the same on this. This already has thermal throttling issues, so pushing it too much would be crazy.

Exactly what I'm thinking, not because of dev support, but because there are many little issues I can't deal with with this phone. Either the Nexus 4 or the One X+.
Good luck getting a Nexus anytime soon, I tried AT launch this morning. Some members got some, others like myself spent 20 minutes trying over and over, getting lag and errors until the phone was removed from our carts, and is now sold out.
I tried. I have to return the LGOG by Monday... hopefully something happens by then.
This phone is brand new...you can't expect it to be PERFECT..its pretty close though lol. And all I see is people pointing out the bad. Battery life...you have 4 cores! Your phone isn't gonna get the battery life your used to..and benchmarks? Idk what you guys are pulling but I get 7500+. That's plenty fast for me. And LG is hurting. The OG is gonna make or break them. I think you need to have faith in this manufacturer. Its the first of its kind in the US. Its too big of a deal to not update. Mght be a couple months but for those of you who switch because of locked bootloader will regret with what I believe will come in the future. Jellybean will do wonders for the UI..which is not bad at all...I suggest you give this beast a chance..I don't think you will regret it.

Sure sure Mr LG employee! I do agree this phone will be the survival or death of their mobile. But my doubts come from owning prior LG devices, their problems were all software and never fixed by LG. It didn't matter though because we had a decent dev community, looked bootloaders though on an LG phone worry the hell out of me. This phone is a beast I love the build quality but I am still sceptical, I'm going to ride this ship though hopefully we steer clear of icebergs!

I have had this device a little over a week and i love it i get way better battery life than i did oit of my atrix 2 and so far nothing i due can produce lag the phone responds as fast as i can touch the screen i love my device i think build quality is second to none and my city launched lte recently so with 40 mb plus download speeds i think this device is supurb i have rooted and installed custom roms on every device i have owned but so far with the optimus g i see no need to my only complaint is the camera i feel it could be better but hey its still a phone !

Is it worth it in your opinions? And are there any good stock roms with carrierIQ and all the spyware crap taken out of the kernel ?

I just upgraded from mt4g and haven't looked back. At first I was concerned about the size of the Note 2, but it turned out to be non-issue. The phone is awesome. Just don't count on one handed operation... Development section has some nice roms with spyware and carrierIQ removed.

You can turn it off:
Settings -> Backup and Reset -> Collect Diagnostics
Uncheck Allow Diagnostics
Then you won't need a custom ROM. I don't even have root yet *gasp*, just not worth the pain since the software is excellent.
Although you will have to adjust to the size coming from a 3.7"
I'm coming over from the MT4GS as well. Gonna have to get used to this Samsung stuff...

I also came from a mt4gs. The biggest reason I kept going back to sliders all these years was my big hands couldn't operate the virtual keyboards well (I'm 6'3 not a small guy). I love my mt4gs but this phone is light years beyond it. I love the size and speed of it. I can get two days of battery life with the stock battery (no anker battery here). Hell I've basically stopped using my tablet because of this phone. It is absolutely worth every penny.

That was another question I had . Is 5.5" really big enough for the device to function effectively as a tablet? Or do you feel it works but still undersized?

Depends on the tablet. This phone effectively replaces my nexus 7, but I dont think it woukd replace a 10" tablet as they kinda serve different purposes. I'd say a 10" is if you want to replicate a laptop experience and size for content consumption, but a 7" is if u want a bigger size but not as large as a 10" because 9/10" tabs are very unweildy

I've seen a couple other guys from MT4GS post here.
My transition will have to happen after my wife's backordered S3 in white gets in stock. Retentions screwed up the order and it sat on a desk for 2 days before it got sent to the warehouse.
Samsung stuff is the little differences in flashing and recovery from the HTC devices. It as hard to screw up a MT4GS. I am reading of people jacking their phones up often enough here. There seems to be a learning curve but there is no way of knowing if these guys are like crimedave...
Good thing is the Note 2 already has a notable dev community starting...

Well this will be my first samsung device since my SGH T539 Beat so I'm pretty excited to see how it's progressed since the days of flip phone.
:good:

The little phone that could

So a few days back I may or may not, but most definitely DID get an unlocked 32GB Nexus 5.....actually it was almost two weeks ago, but acquiring a SIM card from Sprint is seriously no joke (took me 8 or 9 days) so it gave me a little bit of a chance to truly step back and enjoy this little bastard.
I've owned two LS970's but never purchased one new. Just a replacement for my broke S3 that seemed to cheap to be true from digicycle or digitalcycle....something like that. While I was still learning my way around the phone I hard bricked it to a point at the time, I thought was beyond return. Picked up my second one. Fixed my first one (thanks to this community) just in time to shatter my second one.
Anyway, along the way I actually signed up for and became an active member in the xda community, instead of just reading tuts and downloading.
This little pocket of Sprint LGOG was nice. Hidden gem that only we knew about. Now I'm about to dive into the ocean that is worldwide, carrier-wide branded Nexus 5 forum [gulp] LMAO.
I'll always keep this guy around as a back-up and will still try to flash whatever awesome, crazy stuff you guys put out there....just not as often.
Nothin but love for the LG LS970
Godspeed bro!
