CMW 3 is only for Gingerbread ROMs. If you want to try Virtuous, make a Nandroid backup of CM7, flash CWM 2 and then flash Virtuous. If you decide to go back to your CM7 backup, you'll need to flash CWM 3 back again before restoring the backup.
The problem lies in Froyo and Gingerbread using a different file system.

I'm assuming you have ROM Manager installed (if not, grab it from the Market) and you can install it from there easily at the bottom ("All ClockworkMOD Recoveries")

not disagreeing with Gabriel, but I was able to switch from CM7 nightly 30 running CWM 3.x to Virtuous 0.9.5 without downgrading CWM back to 2.x
obviously, you need to perform a full wipe beforehand.. but it went just swimmingly for me.
give it a shot and see if it works. create a backup beforehand and if it doesn't seem to work, restore your backup, go into CM7 like you normally would, and go to ROM Manager app.. from here, you can restore CWM 2.x by pressing "flash CWM recovery" (I think that's the option - it's the first option in ROM Manager) - it should display 2.5.x.x or whatever version you had installed prior to changing the recovery image to 3.x...reboot into recovery and you should have your green text back and you'll be good to go!

I'm not saying you can't but, you will run the high risk of breaking things. Froyo and Gingerbread use different filesystems, hence the two different versions of CWM

You can if u flash the offical one from rom manger in the market

You can flash back and forth easily if you want to flash both of them. I know that the next virtuous will be working with cw3.

Alright so a while back I used unrevoked on my wifes incredible and it worked just fine. she updated it recently so today I went to reroot and prep to install a new rom. Problem is it failed to get root with the newest unrevoked. Ti backup fails to get root yet mybackup gets it and so does rom manager. I'm trying to get into clockwork through the hboot menu. Maybe I'm doing something wrong by going through there..i tried to backup with cwm through rom manager and it worked (didn't till i flashed the latest recovery but still) but I'd still like to get into cwm for myself not rely on rom manager. I've yet to try to reboot into recovery that way or restore the backup I made as I am at work but regardless..any ideas? I know when things are being ridiculous with the fascinate I can just odin and go from there..is there something along those lines for the dinc? If not what should I do to root the thing..get clockwork again..and flash the new rom? Any help would be greatly appreciated guys.
Thanks!

Your best bet is starting from scratch. Unrooting, rerooting, flashing cwm. Etc.

I can get to HBOOT but from there all i can do is reboot or fast boot, I havent done the factory reset yet but i intend to try. But from hboot I want to get into cwm, or do i get into cwm recovery a different way?
Mind you I havent tried to get into it since flashing the newest cwm through rom manager (or that I remember trying or not..been a hectic past week..im losing my damn mind, grandmother passed away in Anaheim, etc, etc)
also im going to reroot and do a completely different rom, it is stock minus wonky root and launcher pro. I finally convinced the wife to let me modify it.
Ifu don't see recovery option in any hboot option. Like there's no clockwork u should by able to flash clockwork and then a Rom.ican pm you.but if unroot is your objective goto Android dev stickies there's a thread.

thats the thing, I see the recovery option, but everytime I select it, it tried to find a multitude of images, says file doesnt exist on all of them (4 or 5 of them I believe) and sends me back to the main hboot screen.
Suppose that information would have been useful. Again, hectic week lol
use say u have rom manager?
yes, im wondering if I need a stock recovery image since it isnt finding the PBwhaterver.img Any idea where I can get that?
Also probably helpful, I had used unrevoked forever a while back. Im thinking I need to undo those changes and just retry everything.
Thoughts?
Edit: Downloaded a new clockwork recovery image from unrevoked forever wiki, gonna throw it on the SD card and see what happens. HOPEFULLY that will let me into cwr, if not, how do I just put everything back to stock so I can start over?
try that file. get rid of the mlti part should sayPB31IMG. also make sure no other files of the same name are on root of sd.should say update vol up yes wait reboot no see ifu got recovery got newr versions too. also new urevoked have versions without clockwork u prolly used tht one. easy fix tho
alright, gonna give it a shot when I get home in the morning. Wish me luck.
Alright flashing with rom manager and selecting reboot into recovery from there worked just fine. we are in business for now anyways lol.

ok, this has gone far enough!!!!
i recently flashes from Virus' kingdom to R2R lightning 1.1 and thing were great for about 2 weeks, the i flashed the V6 script (i know you cant flash a script, just used flash for lack of better word).
A few days later i noticed dramatic slow down, & after trying everything in the book , decided to switch roms. I went for the new 3.5 port the Kingedrunny 0.2, then about an hour later, i re flashed 0.3 using the firerat method & BAM bootloop.
I've formatted, wiped , superwiped, re partitioned, but i cant ge a 3.0 rom to flash.
I've managed to get Sense 2. whatever roms to flash without a prob, and even got a sac's 7 rom to work from an old nandroiid backup, but nothing new will work.
I ultimately end up hung at the boot screen, waiting on a sign from the phone gods., & the sac's 7 back up is setup with metropcs setting (no good now that im on boost).
any help would be great, since Im going gray trying to figure this one out.
UPDATE:
I GOT IT!!!!!!!
dont know if this helped but,
installed an old micro sd

For one, those are big ROMS. Are you using a partitioned SD Card with A2SD?? I'd recommend it.
sd card is partitioned, 32 swap 2gb ext 2 & 3, using 2.3 & clockwork. ive been stuck at the boot screen for 33 min & the phone is fully charged. its another post here with the same problem. ive never installed cm7 on this evo , so that cant be a factor.
Use amon ra as your recovery instead. Go download virus superwipe zip. Wipe everything. Flash the superwipe. Flash your ROM and you'll be chillin. Cm7 has nothin to do with your flashing process

ill give it a try, but i think i finally bricked it . i can only go into boot loader, ive tried flashing a ra recovery img , but thats what i think bricked it. gonna try to use a stock ruu to retore everything over & start from scratch.
That's a good idea. Run the RUU,. use Amon Ra, and you don't NEED those superwipes. Just wipe everything except SD Card in Amon Ra and you'll be fine. (And don't wipe battery stats if your battery isn't at 100%)
Still no good, but i did manage to get recovery running again. Never tried the ruu, dont wanna chance screwing up the meid since its on boost. I think ill do a nandroid backup of the rom i have running now, then try another 3.0 rom if that doesnt do it then ill bite the bullet
ok, ive come to the conclusion that i've managed to corrupt my system (it came to me in a dream). not sure how i did it, but its the only thing that makes sense. im unable to flash any rom with ANY element of sense 3.0.
the question now is how do i repair my system files & file structure without totally bricking my phone
If you ever use firerat and want to remove it, get amon RA 2.3. Drop the pcimg36.zip on the root of the SD. Reboot into hboot and load the recovery from there. It will reapply the amon RA recovery.
Firerat. Mods the recovery, so to remove it you have to start from scratch, with a new recovery install.
....wipe....flash your rom of choice...
good to know, this gave me hell. too bad you didnt tell me week and a half ago lmao
King's shooter is working pretty well for me. On v4 hardware.
I successfully rooted my phone a few days ago using the Revolutionary method and flashed ClockworkMod Recovery without a problem. Then I flashed CyanogenMod 7.1.0 again without a problem. I noticed my gps has been having an issue detecting my location so I figured I should flash the nandroid for my stock rooted android 2.3.3 rom and see if the issue still exists. My main problem is that I can't boot into recovery. Apparently I have the latest version of Clockwork. I try to boot into recovery using different methods and I keep ending up at the white screen that says 'Revolutionary' in pink at the top with the 3 skateboarding androids at the bottom. I try to get to recovery from that screen also still with no success. It just reboots into that screen. I was thinking I may have to use the ruu to unroot my Evo (I rather find an alternative solution). How can I regain my ability to boot into recovery? Any help would be much appreciated...

If grab the pc36img for amon_ra, throw it in the root of your SD, using a card reader in a computer, get into hboot and let it install. Then try to get into recovery. F clockwork anyway.....90% of the peeps around here having problems are running that recovery

Turn off your phone, then when turning it on hold the volume rocker in the down position, you will then boot into hboot settings, hboot will automatically check for the update file(PC36IMG)after its done, scroll to recovery and enter that way,if you still cant get into recovery, you will need to download and reinstall the latest revolutionary root tool,i recommend using "TeamWin Recovery Project" i've never had a problem with it.

I was actually going to go the amon ra route because i was familiar with it while I had a HTC Hero. But TWRP v2 caught my attention and I decided to go that route. So far so good as far as I can tell. I made a nandroid backup. Thanks. Any tips or info I should know about using TWRP?
And 1 more thing. I have a nandroid backup from when I had clockwork recovery. I should still be able to flash that back up right?

Nope you can't flash your CWM backup since your on TWRP. You would have to flash back to the version of CWM that you made the backup with

I installed a new recovery after i installed revolution, because i also had recovery issues. The version should be at the top of the recovery screen.I didnt like rom manager too much, for some reason it gives me problems.
They say that this version of Amon can be used to restore clockwork backups. I haven't tried it with clockwork myself because I avoids clockworkmod.
Thanks for the help everyone. Everything is gravy now. I'm happy with TWRP. I do have a question for making a backup. By default in TWRP, the 1st 3 boxes are checked up for when attempting to make a backup. Do any of you guys ever check the other boxes (Recovery, cache, .android_secure) and if so, why? Also, when you attempt to wipe before restoring, which items do you guys wipe? Any other tips or suggestions about this recovery would appreciated too.
I backup everything except cache.
Hi guys I am having some issues flashing a rom to my buddies phone. Is there a different method to flash roms on phones that are rooted with revolutionary?
I ask because my phone was rooted a year or so ago with unrevoked. I have no problems flashing roms to it. But everytime I flash a rom to my buddies phone it is just bombarded with force closes left and right. I tried reformatting always clearing every cache etc?
Am I missing something? Should I be flashing different roms since it was already on OTA 2.3.3? Sorry for the noob questions but I figured once I got s-off that most roms would be compatible.
thanks
All roms will work with revolutionary what recovery are you using?
We are legion, for we are many.
On his phone I'm using the clockwork recovery. Same thing I have used on my phone. With newer rooted phones do I need to run a different recovery? Or flash the roms differently?
Like I said his was was already on android 2.3.3 and mikg, synergy and all other roms just force close like crazy. These are all installed through clockwork.
Any help would be great guys thanks
I use amon RA style supersonic recovery v3.11 some use amon RA, cwm and twrp both have issues wiping twro2.0 is known to brick phones, I'd recommend ARSSR v3.11 or Amon RA v2.3
