Yes brush after being directly translated to from Chinese means flash.
This is a terribly translated pile of text, does this mean green lens will work or red lens will work???
Official, so can you update it with motorola's update software? Or how does one know it is official?
Congratulation!But mine is smuggleg.
I have updated my ME525 using the image file made by VID190, thanks him
你花这么多时间来翻译,真是有耐心啊,呵呵
I've one question, can we (mb525) to flash signed sbf. I want official 2.3 cause, poorly powermangement of custom roms (battery is like countdownter when display is used)?
Arrow DEFY for China(ME525)Upgrade 2.3
someone who can say that such testing is and what improvements have
I make the install
defy
will the defy be updated for the rest of the world?
^ officially no. Motorola makes stupid ...
So this is an official 2.3 but only in China?
Now, is it better than builds we got already? Is kernel fixed? I read bright buttons issue seems to be present... And if we get SBF, which cg versions it will have (Chinese Froyo got version 2, not 4)?
Officially only China ME525 will get Android 2.3.4, this is discrimination, but Motorola makes 2 time, when update Motoroi 702 in Chaina to 2.2, when even xt720 not get official 2.2 in rest world. Chaina are about 1 billions
cool but brush
If it does work on the MB525 its gonna be a lot more stable and battery efficient than the Defy+ rom's that we use as they aren't optimized for the smaller battery on the Defy.

So, what's the news on this it?
Is the update available over the air in China or not?
Anyone from China has done the "brushing" yet? - lol
I could give it a shot, but I don't want to mess with my 'downgradability' to Froyo and CM7...
And from that official GB, would a Froyo nand restore and fixed.sbf flashing bring me back OK - 100% safe?
Where the devs at !?

Could someone take the liberty to post it in the Development forum. Please.

You be the judge.
I doubt we will get it anytime soon, will be the last day of Q2 me thinks!

Not sure where you're located but according to Moto forums https://supportforums.motorola.com/thread/47028 the Defy in the US has received a limited release for testing which means the official release wont be to far away. Probably like the other posts said, end of April.
The Brazilian Defy branded by Claro has Android 2.2.1.

Do you know the version of the brazilian's debranded Defy?

this is a nandroid backup of the claro froyo

My error!
I meant, the retail version!
Telus Canada is now selling defy with 2.2
I would like the clean SBF of my telus rom, but i dont see it on their site.
The version of Defy selling in China has Android 2.2.1. Now it has upgraded to Android 2.2.2 through net
US T-Mobile DEFY w/ FROYO 2.2.1 Factory Original
I have a new DEFY that is US T-Mobile Branded running 2.2.1 from the factory. How can I help? See pictures below!
Coming soon
...so China has 2.2 for quiet a while now and Korea got Froyo to. My guess: next the Staates will get Froyo and then its Europes turn
It seems that MOTO is rolling out the update but in batches. Any info on when is Froyo going to be released in India?
So any one with official 2.2 what's the phone like now any better ? is it faster, smoother, bug free (as they have been working with the rom for over a year now)?
I know 1 thing i was looking forward to was a black status bar but its still white oh well
also what pisses me of is that most devices will be upgraded to 2.3 including the droidx witch was out before the defy.
This is the last time i buy Motorola there crap with updates.
I just gave up waiting and flashed a custom ROM. It was the best thing I did! The xd1 ROM is many times faster than the Motorola's. Highly recommended!

I am new to the Android phone, and I purchase the Defy on last sunday, I like this phone and those function, but I am thinking to upgrade the firmware to 2.2, the salesman say it can be download 2.2 OTA at April, but after a week and there is still nothing.
So now I am thinking upgrade to CM7, one question, after installed the CM7, can it downgrade to the original 2.2 OTA?
Also I am focusing to the Hotspot feature. Is it work fine?
my phone version is
2.59.0.MB525.Retail.n.CH18
firmware version
2.1 update1
Yes, i have done that tomorrow. I don't like some modifications that i was used to, in the contact list, that have changed in the CM7. I'm gonna wait to another version to see if will get better what i want.
it seems like cm7 is still in beta-mode if i was u i would wait untill a stable verison comes out
If you don't want to be flashing fixes every other day i recommend not going with CM7. It runs great for light usage but it has many issues for now.
I recommend going with a 2.2 rom like my EphuNord. It is a clean Blurless 2.2 rom with a few modifications to allow easy themeing. I also uploaded around 8 themes.
If you follow the correct procedures you can always downgrade as far as 2.1 again if you need to.
thx for information, but which is the most stable for 2.2? I saw some post that some rom are not compatible?! Any recommandation? I want 2.2 or above.
I am lost on upgrade or not.
I want to update to ephnord 2.2
But want to downgrade back to 2.1
I am 2.51 uk(the phone came with it)
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
For Now 2.2 will be a better choice as the CM7 is its beta phases so let it come as a stable build...
N dude make sure while upgrading from 2.1 to 2.2 you does not lose ur downgradability and for that use the excellent work from fritolays so that u can downgade back to ur original firmware just by flashing 2.1 firmware of ur choice back...
Were can i find fritolays`s work, thanks in advance mate.
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
If you're newbie (or just want to use phone, not patch it every day), then better 2.2
fritolays's work here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=977989
EphuNord is also good choise for you. They both based on latest official leaked 2.2 and very stable.
Thank u so much

Hi, everybody. Got an unusual question today:
Last wednesday I updated my Defy to Barebones v1.5 (did my SBF backup, don't worry) right from stock Eclair. I'm having ABSOLUTELY no issues with it, but today Motorola released the official Froyo here in Brazil.
Even though I trust my phone's life completely to XDA, I feel safer using an official firmware (if no additional features in custom ROMs tease me).
I can easily downgrade to 2.1 and update to the official ROM, but I have a specific need: 720p recording. With this mod I'm currently able to do so in Barebones, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to do so in the official firmware. As shown in the mod's thread, they currently support 3.4.2-117, 3.4.2-145 and 3.4.2-155 build versions.
So, my question is: is there any way I can find out the official firmware's version? If I won't be able to record in 720p (which is a indispensable feature for me, as a future vlogger), I won't update. The update comes as an executable (so I can't look into the ROM's files), so a database of official firmwares would be better.
Thanks in advance,
Gabriel
Bump. Nobody?
Hey all,
Rumour is that handsets with 2.3.3+ will eventually go to ICS.
Do you think this will include Defy+ ?
Kind regards
Only one Word: Motorola
It is very likely but it will b a long time before that happens
Sent from my MB525 using xda premium
Well yes, the main issue could be *Motorola*
Even the new RAZR is looking at Q1 2012 for ICS.
Well right now the Defy i have now with Walter's Defy+ stock rom will have to suffice
It is a possibility unless there is a Defy++ in the making.
Sent from Android 2.3.7
does it really matter whether there will be an official or not? the cyanogen team will start working on cm9 (ics) as soon as the source is available, which will probably happen in a few weeks. and since the defy is officially supported (and all devices capable of running gb will be able to run ics), we will get official cm9. the question is, with which kernel, because as long as the bootloader is locked, we will have to stick to froyo kernel. no idea how that effects things... :/
sent from my cm7.1 defy...
Motorola RAZR will be the
first phone to incorporate Motorola’s
new bootloader solution. http://ausdroid.net/2011/10/21/motorola-razr-to-be-unlockable/
"Motorola. said they
were working on a bootloader solution that would allow
the unlocking and re-locking of the bootloaders on their
phones later this year. "
So there's still hope for defy/+'s bootloader .
Well, unlocking the Bootloader.
But I think the Defy won't have ICS, due to the old kernel.
just thinking.
As far as trusting Motorola for updates, I wouldn't start getting my hopes up. You'll notice the original Defy is still at 2.2 and the Defy+ hasn't got any updates at all.
Our only hope is CyanogenMod and the likes, and the Defy isn't on the high-priority list of any of them. By the time, and if, it comes out at all, we'd all probably have fancy new phones anyways.
Defy original came with 2.1 and got one upgrade to 2.2. It is logical that defy+ get one upgrade too...
ICS will work with froyo kernel 99% sure. Difference between froyo and ginger kernel is security fixes, no major updates, new kernel 3.0.1 is the high-end Linux, if Motorola unlocked boot-loaders it's a big plus about using last kernel innovations.
i hope motorola releases the official gingerbread for our defy because isn't acceptable that we are at froyo yet
^ Motorola confirm that 2.2 is latest update for Defy and Kernel of Defy+ is the same as Froyo 2.6.32, update is not needed. Google was make equip for updating all phones (when is possible) to run 4.0, but was a fake, maybe ?!
we're waiting cyanogenmod team
Hi all!
This is my very first post here, although i`m quite familiar with most topics related to our defy`s.
I`m starting this post because i need to share my experience with the latest and the greatest mistake I ever done since i have this phone, so all of you who are considering to update, be aware!
So, i flashed yesterday in my red-leans defy the GB 2.3.5 rom (to be more precise 4.5.1_DFP_125) and got this message from moto that there is an update to DFP 231. My rom was a bright clean one so the update process went smoothly and the result is a wonderful 4.5.1_DFP_231 rom with Bl 7 and unrootable (yet).
Although the rom is excellent and everything works as it should be (quite fast and great battery life for a full-blur rom), you must be aware that the absence of root limits almost all the fun part that the hardware of your defy (or defy+) is able to deliver. Keep this in mind before updating your bl6 (rootable) rom.
Sorry for another post on this topic but being new in this forum i`m not allowed to post in the development section of defy (where I firs intended to write).
A similar thread you can find here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1523950 )
If somebody knows a way or will find a way to root all the new Bl7 roms, please share. Until then cheers from vazduh.
Being an android newbie and a Defy+ user, maybe my respond is irrelevant and sorry if it is.
My rom version was 6. I made the OTA update from DFP-125 to DFP-231, which also updated the boot.img, probably making it version 7? as you're saying.
Then I flashed a full DFP-125 sbf with version 6, and everything was fine. Rootable as ever.
So, the problem you're describing is that there is not a full sbf you can use for the first defy to do something like this or I'm totally missing the point? I though only a full sbf with CG31.smg could destroy the downgradeability.
i dont know what firmware i have before in my MB526, remember only android 2.3.6, my phone download 16mb via OTA and i have BL 7 and DFP-231. Can i try uptade sbf to DFP-125 ?
My phone had 2.3.5 when purchased.
I can flash this version 6 rom after the OTA update.
I wipe and use DEFYPLUS_U3_4.5.1-134_DFP-125_BLUR_SIGN_SIGNED_UCADEFYEMARAB1B80AA004.0R_PDS03C_USAJRDNGIBRRTES_P025_A023_M002_HWp3_WIG148097_Service1FF.sbf.
And everything goes factory default.
If you have flashed a version 7 full sbf, I think that the downgradeability is lost.
Why don't you guys try the ZergRush exploit or GingerBreak ?
Herpderp Defy.
not work for me, phone launch only DFP-188

is your phone defy or defy+ ??? which variant ?? the post you have given has amused me cause as far as i know defy wasn't supposed to be upgraded to 2.3.6 . and u have only stated that you mobile is red lense defy that is also basic defy with bayers module variant but not defy+ . so kinda confused . can you tell which variant is urs ? is it defy with red lense ? or defy+ ?
From DFP 231 no downgrade just to 188
no root
no downgrade
(yet)
just wait
188 and 231 (or 2311 / 2312) are all on BL7, so downgrading 231 to 188 should be possible...
but there is no way to root these roms (for now)...
@joydeep:
i think he has got an defy+, cause there will never be an OTA to gingerbread on Defy
and i really have to say:
ON EVERY THREAD WITH UPGRADING TOPIC IS A BIG RED TEXT THAT DOWNGRADING / ROOTING IS NOT POSSIBLE FOR 188 AND UP

My phone is a regular defy with red leans, but after i flashed the defy+ oficial 2.3.5 ROM (DFP-125 for UK as i remember) i suppose that it "became" a defy+. This is why i received the OTA update message from moto to update to DFP 231 (which i know is a BL7 ROM). After the update process, i tried to root the phone with Superoneclick 2.3.3 and failed (never failed before, with previous ROMS). So my coclusion is that the 16 MB OTA update delivered me a 4.5.1 134 - DFP 231 rom which is not downgradeable and unrootable yet.
And yeah its amusing to now how easy can transform your defy into a defy plus (btw i didnt experienced any problems regarding battery indicator or camera issues. In fact the phone runs flawless after the update)

Strange. I myself tried to root the new OTA-updated 231 ROM and failed with every known method (known by google search at least), but i admit that i didnt try to re-flash the old 2.3.5 rom (451. 134 DFP 125) for the simple fact that a assumed it would be impossible, resulting in black screen. But i now have a full 231 UK sbf and perhaps would give a try to reflash 2.3.5 rom. It least this is what i understood from your post.
Cheers

its a defy RED lens regular, but because the hardware is identical with defy+ it was considered as a defy+. The only difference i know between the two phones is the battery (processor: OMAP 3630 but i know it says that defy has 3610 and defy+ 3620, no... its the same; GPU PowerVR SGX530, 512 RAM and so on)
I also have a regular defy in which I flashed the 2.3.5 Offical SBF so in a way it became a Defy +
I also received the OTA update, which changed the screen lock btw, and I noticed that it took away my root. I tried with Superoneclick 2.3.3 and 2.3.2 and they both failed. I also tried to flash the 2.3.5 Official SBF and it resulted in a black screen and wouldn't boot. So after 2 restless hours, I found the 2.3.6 rom and my phone was brought back to life.
But now I still have no root.. Does anyone have a solution?

Not yet, and a I have a nasty feeling that we will have to wait a bit longer... As I read around the topic i understood that the new roms which have Bl7 came with a new script or something and this is why the old rooting methods didnt work. We need new stuff
On the other hand its a good rom, no complains about it, except root ofc. Keep digging
