hey people i just wanted to know that as we all know DEFY got 2.2 late...compared to others...and thats all for it....
Will this happen in MOTOROLA DEFY+ ???
Keeping the recent Google-Motorola ties in mind, hopefully not.

this question has been asked so many times... lolz...
when im going to buy a phone, all i am concerned about is are there lots of good devs... and not will whatever-company release an upgrade... Custom ROMS are always better than stock
defy+ is just a defy with red lense an slightly stronger accu

And faster cpu
The point is: it's incredibly cheap, in germany it's 269 Euro, that's why I already preordered it. Right now, thats about 20 Euro more than the Defy.
Since google is now involved, I really hope to see some improvements in motorolas update policy. But that might take some time...

It does. 1GHz, the specs are already published. (just google for "defy+ specs", I can't post links) Besides the 1700mAh battery and Android 2.3 nothing changed.
Amazon says 23rd, some stores say earlier...
i don't think so. defy is very powerful. if developers find a unlocked bootloader for it, everything becomes better

We get this confusion so many times... Defy and Defy+ use the same cpu, Defy is underclocked at 800mhz, Defy+ is clocked at 1 ghz... Defy can be easily and safely clocked to 1ghz, thus makin it the same as Defy+... IT IS THE SAME HARDWARE

No. That is wrong.

Plus, the Defy also has the build-in PoverVR SGX Graphics.

Yes, I see that now... But: I'm not shure they really use the same hardware. There could really be a difference between the 3630-800 and the 3630-1000. Motorola might be buying different processors - with cpus and gpus it's quite common to downclock pieces, that didn't pass all tests, or to disable cores, that don't work correctly...
But yeah, I'm a bit disappointed... Will propably get the Defy now.
yeah... i made lots of research too before finally getting the defy.. Good Luck

Yet you still got it wrong.
Sure they both have 3630, but the difference is there: 3630-800 vs 3630-1000. They may come from the same wafer just like i5&i7, but don't call them the same thing.

so is it worth it?
assuming they're really different hardware, does it mean that if a defy can go up to 1.3GHz (just guessing on this one), can the defy+ safely go to 1.5GHz?

I don't think so, but nobody can tell... That's why I decided to wait, even when I'm like a little child when it comes to these things ;-) But I will likely get the Defy+, because for me the better LiPo battery and a guaranteed red-lens camera is worth 20 Euros.
Actually, I can't blaim Motorola for releasing the Defy+. It may be a very small upgrade, but the price is good and will probably be the same as the defy is now, in a few weeks. Blaim them for not releasing Gingerbread to the Defy.
Btw: Can one root the leaked ROMs (and therefore the Defy+)?

thanks for correcting me, racca, and i like your work on the dual os very much
yeah its not EXACTLY same, but TI OMAP 3630 800mhz, clocked at 1ghz, runs smoothly without any glitches, in my opinion (which is not worth much) its the same as TI OMAP 3630 factory clocked at 1ghz, which has no additional features except the higher clock speed. IMHO, its not the same case as i5 & i7 (Lynnfield and arrandale; bloomfield is a different beast) which have different sets of features (hyper threading, etc)
so i doubt the hardware of Defy+ will be any much different, they probably just overclocked it (or rather the defy was underclocked) from the kernel... am not an expert, am not trying to be a smart ass, just my opinion
i could be quite wrong though, never know until we can actually get our hands on the defy+, but for me its not worth the wait and extra cost (the Defy was on a very huge discount 34% off, otherwise its out of my budget range, really wanted the Defy+ too)
but if you can wait, and if the selling price is not much different, then the larger battery and stock GB, stock 1ghz, maybe some fixes such as earpiece, and hoping for a better usb port flaps, is something worth waiting for...

i think rooting is possible for the leaked GB roms on Defy (not Defy+) but downgrade is not possible (but who would wanna downgrade?? right )
As for Defy+, its all just speculations at the moment, the bootloader may be changed, maybe new locks, or maybe its under google now, so unlocked??
But isn't the defy + the defy with red lens released a few months ago??

Hi guys!
I haven't yet rooted my Desire(I would have but I was fool enough to install the 2.2 OTA).The main reason for me to root would be the ability to overclock my device. All this time that I have been around here on the Desire and Nexus One forums I have been seeing that our devices are overclocked only up to 1113MHz and only in very rare cases 1267MHz.However,to my great surprise,I noticed on OpenDesire ROM's thread that the Desire can be overclocked @1344MHz(which of course made me think a big HELL YEAH!).Is that number ok for all of us or for some select few?I remember from my Hero days that only some few, lucky guys like myself could overclock up to 768MHz,although there were cases of people, rare, yet not unheard of,that could overclock @844MHz.Is this the case here or are things different with the Snapdragon?
Many many thanks guys!
C'mon guys,no one?

I don't think overclocking to 1267MHz happens in rare cases. I had no problems oc-ing to 1267 and it seems that a lot of forum member were able to do this too.
Why don't you downgrade your HBoot to 0.80, root your phone and try it out?
Just make sure your phone does not become too hot if you try 1344MHz.
I have to ask the question, but does it really matter?
IMHO, the Desire is plenty fast enough that overclocking it simply isn't necessary.
I can understand underclocking to eek out more battery life, but other than gaining a few points on some benchmarks, I really don't see the point in overclocking.
Regards,
Dave

so this, its really not needed at all. a decent fast rom and 1ghz is more than enought for things to be super speedy. any decent kernal will provide more than enough speed.
overclocking(and lots of other things these days!) reminds me of that bit in jurassic park where they are all sat around the table and geoff goldblum says:
"Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should".
herein lies the lesson, just because you can do it doesnt mean you should do it.
Well,I have my reasons wanting to overclock...First off,I will check if I can see any difference in speed or smoothness. If there isn't,I will just revert the clock back to normal after some benchmarks.
I just am the kind of guy that wants to get the most out of his phone!
I think ALL Desires can overclock to 1267Mhz. It's not that rare and I've not seen anyone having a problem with it.
It does make things a bit snappier as well.

That's what I'm talkin' about man!
And now that I think of it,it's not that much.I mean,the Hero could overclock @768,which is 45% overclocking.The Desire's 1267 is about 27% and 1344 is about 34,5%.Nothing too much!So why not?
Every CPU is different. The Qualcomm Snapdragon is a very different beast compared to the Qualcomm MSM 7200A.
We are just starting to learn what we can do with the Snapdragon without damaging it.

Well my man,in this case the MSM7200A is no beast but rather a pooch that barks to no avail!Good pet however!
Joking aside, the Snapdragon is a beast for a mobile phone, but even beasts get beaten. Now,if I can somehow reach or even get close to the performance of the Galaxy S or the Droid X I'll be happy.Software wise I believe that HTC is far superior ,but it's hardware is a little out of date.Let's see what their new devices will do for us!
Btw,does anyone know if the so anticipated HTC Ace will be anything better than what we already have or if it will be the Evo for GSM users?
Thanks!
The desire is plenty fast as it is and I don't see the point of overclocking it. I've had it to 1267 in the past and it made no difference at all for usability. I'm also the type that overclocks all his computers...

Personal preferences dude...What everyone does with their phone is their own business.I wish I could resist overclocking too!
However,I was watching a thread over at the N1 forums in which a dude named Storm9999(genius dude, not just a random one) stated that an overclock @1,3GHz could fry our phones. Is that so?I mean,I know overclocking reduces the CPU's lifetime, but is it THAT MUCH dangerous?
I think overclocking can kill your phone.. I use to overclock my own o2 orbit and it died after a year..
Friend of mine just burned his old HTC by overclocking it and as a consequence is going to buy a desire.
I had my phone overclocked at 1345Mhz for a moment, just to test it, and it made no real difference to when it was overclocked at around 1.2Ghz, which in turn has very very little difference to stock 1Ghz.
I think the only case where you see some small impact is in games.
I've tested HD recording at 1.345 Ghz and stock speed and there was no difference.
If anything, it's going to kill your battery and shorten its life for sure, going so high. If ever I will OC again I won't go over 1.1 and only if I find some tangible improvements.
As said, this phone is always fast, there is no real need to OC, other than for 'fun'.
The fun is what I want...Well,most probably I will have my phone overclocked at the maximum speed it can get for about a week or two and then go back to 1 or 1,1GHz...
Btw,your signature kicks ass andycted!
I'm just wondering that! Will Defy's CM7 work on Defy+ too?

You haven't been reading the forums carefully... The Defy and Defy+ uses exactly the same TI OMAP 3630 chipset clocked at different speeds, Motorola just wants you to think otherwise... every other hardware is also same except Defy+ has a higher capacity battery.
If Defy+ ROM works on Defy, than Defy ROM will work on Defy+ (i could be wrong tho, we never know for sure until the Defy+ comes out)

Officially the defy uses the 3610 + GFX-chip. The 3620 is just that.
The Motorola Update-WSoftware recognizes the defy as 3630 which in turn is even better than the 3620.
Even if theyd use different chips they are still from the same line and should work with the same software without further changes.
I am pretty sure that cm7 should work on the defy+.
Nevertheless i would wait for approval before ordering it. Perhaps the defy+ comes with an unlocked bootloader which could also be used on the normal defy.
If thats the case, the only reason to buy a defy+ would be the slightly larger battery capacity.
I would seriously consider getting a normal defy as it comes a lot cheaper.
I would buy the Defy+ if the price are pretty much similar with Defy. (I saw preorder for defy+ has been started in UK for £246 including VAT). If the price remains in this range I'll consider Defy+ rather than Defy.

It fits, but you have to use a defy+ rom then, because it has a higher voltage than the defy-battery. CM7 still doesn't work, because you can't use the new battd with it, which is required to fully charge the new battery. Using a defy-rom you only get about 80% of the capacity.

can i use the defy + battery on cm7? with the defy phone?
where is the defy + rom?
For me on defy + cm7 will not work, battery was charge only to 84%. Because cm7 have battd for old defy, if I replace battd from original defy + rom to standard cm7 based on the old defy ROM then I got question mark in battery icon and I can't charge battery.

And again, 3610 and 3620 are just market numbers, those models do not exist. All of them are 3630 but clocked at different speeds.

There is no difference on Instructions Sets, technology, or anything, all are ARMV7 with the only difference beign the Mhz

Hi, i have a R800I 2.3.4 58 and an R800X 2.3.3, bot rooted and all bloatware removed (no overclocking on neither)
I cant play GTA3 or Ganstar Rio in the R800X because of the ultra slow framerate, but both games are perfectly playable in the R800I.
So is this speed difference is really the firmware difference between 2.3.4 and 2.3.3 or the hardware in both phones is a bit different?
My best guess is the sd cards you use have different read speeds. People generally overlook the fact that a slow sd card can slow your phone to crawling point. You should try swapping the cards and see if that makes any different.

Yeah..I played them fine when I was on stock.. The thing is there is no way to compare the different models because they will always show different speeds. Even though they mass produce the phones the same in every way, there is no way possible that every single phone is exactly identical, so when you put software on a phone it's going to interact with the hardware and thus you have different results
Unless I am mistaken I thought I read somewhere that Verizon underclocked the GPU in the R800x for battery life. If this is true that means R800x users GPU is running at a slower speed then all the other GPU Xperia PLAY users. Speaking on that is it possible to OC a GPU?
No, they legally can't mess with any hardware since it would violate their own terms & conditions thus giving out non warranty phones from the box lol. Verizon doesn't even touch the hardware, it's all Sony..Wouldn't surprise me if they tried something idiotic like that though..Oh and not to mention it's false advertising and they'd get sued like crazy because we all know they wouldn't tell us they under clocked them

Ummm, it wouldn't be the first time that Verizon released a device that was underclocked on purpose. Verizon has before (and will probably continue to do so) artificially removed device capabilities (usually through software mods), as well as underclocked devices. This was really common back when Windows CE/Mobile was a dominant smartphone OS. However, a couple of Android devices have had this done to them as well.

I'm pretty sure that DoomLord found some code that he tried to test out on the GSM verison of his Play DoomKernel. Version 2013 had a small bump in GPU OC. Many people complained of system instability, so it was removed as of version 3013. It would be super awesome if we could make a realtime tuneable kernel for GPU OC (like we can with CPU freqs and voltages), but I don't think anybody has figured that out yet.
GPU overclocking isn't gonna work on this SoC. The Adreno we have is basically running at it's max ability as-is.
You could add a few extra clocks, but it won't help much with performance, and you won't notice a difference. Or you could set it much higher like DooMLoRD tried, and end up with instability and bottlenecks instead. It's not worth the trouble.
Of you look at the Adreno 225, it's just an overclocked 220 made for newer SoC's that generate less heat.
But the 220 isn't an overclocked 205, it's a different architecture altogether.
There's a reason the newer chips have a newer architecture instead of an old one set to a higher frequency.
Hi,
I want to overclock my Defy +, but I don't know what values put in SetVsel.. can you help me please ? Thanks

oh my bad, then maybe you should start with telling me what the differences are, you surely know better...
it is really my fault, as defy and defy+ are two completely different phones with different hardware and should also be treated differently...
or just accept the fact that they are the exact same phone, and you can overclock them the same way... -.-'
maybe next time you should search before posting stupid questions which have been answered hunders of times and maybe you dont have to tell someone off who has more knowledge in the field than you... your ignorance pisses me off... good luck with others helping you!

Hey dont be mad i didn't want to offend you
You say that they are the same but DEFY is 0.8ghz and DEFY+ is 1ghz (and they have not the same battery but I think we dont care here isn't it ?),
then the values will not be the same isn't it ?
Overclocking would be :
DEFY is 0.8ghz to 1ghz
DEFY+ is 1ghz to 1.2ghz
No ?
Sorry Im new and French..
But don't be mad I didn't want to offend you

Dude, you can use the same values on both phones, have the same processor, and the same hardware actually, except for the battery.

Ohh ok thank you so if I understand well Motorola have overclocked Defy+ to 1GHz by defaut ?
But we still can overclock it more ? 1200MHz is good isn't it ?
Defy and Defy+ have not the same chipset (TI OMAP 3610 and TI OMAP 3620 I've saw that on http://www.gsmarena.com)) but same CPU you are sure ?

yes, i think the 36"10" and "20" it makes reference to the underclock or overclock, you can overclock this cpu up to 1400, or more i think, but you can risk your cpu lifetime, 1200 is the maximum clock that you can overclock without damages (like droid 2 global), in any case, for a normal user, 1000 is enough, or 1100 maybe, but on 1200 or more, your battery wont last long.

there is no such thing as omap 3610 and 3620, only 3630, which is present in both defy and defy+ (btw, this is the processor, not the chipset... or both, but it is used to reference the cpu). and you can easily overclock the defy to 1.2 and even above that. my phone (normal defy) was running stable at 1.35GHz, so dont be afraid to OC to 1.2GHz!
Thanks guys so im gonna overclock it to 1.2ghz with vsel calculator and setvsel i hope my phone is gonna be faster

Ok its done my MB526 looks faster in game, im im happy but why when i reboot values come back by defaut ? set @ boot is on... Please help :-\

set it in bootmenu, and forget setvsel. i bootmenu, change frequencies/vsels to the values you like, and i recommend changing to either boosted or smartass governor, and dont forget to save at the bottom!
i have used setvsel for months, but it doesnt make sense to have an app for doing what the built-in bootmenu already can, it just takes space in both rom and ram.
Ok Thanks you very much dude, ill try to do it
Im Just back from the Bootmenu i dont understand anything lol, ill try to find a good tutorial
set these:
vsel1: 17 freq1: 300
vsel2: 32 freq2: 600
vsel3: 47 freq3: 900
vsel4: 62 freq4: 1200
governor: smartass (or boosted, try them both out and choose the on you like more)
go to the bottom and save, reboot!
sent from my jellybean defy...
Thanks you sooooooo much !!
I'll try later because my battery is empty
Ok I done everithing it works
But 2 questions:
1. You said me to put those values because they are your favourites ones or because you found them somewhere ?
2. What's the difference between Smartass and Boosted ? And I heard about Smartass v2, should I install it ?
Thanks you so much !
You still here zakoo2 ? ^^

about a year ago i spent quite a lot of time testing cpu settings and i figured out a formula for setting vsel for a specific frequency: vsel=(MHz/20)+2
this is stabil for most people (theres even an app based on this formula ).
to know more about governors, read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1369817!
about smartassv2, it has been implemented into the quarx nightlies with the name boosted, so no need to flash.
although i still flash the original zip, because that flashes sio scheduler too.
