Had this problem for only a minute. Either do a factory data reset or try reflashing the ROM. Backup first of course.

Searched high and low for this. And I finally found it!
This is the exact problem I am having except it doesn't seem to be confined to ROM. Also, USB still works properly. The problem is the phone keeps thinking it's connecting / disconnecting to USB all day long and for some reason this kills the battery life. It also makes it impossible to see notifications in the bar without sliding it down (the bar is constantly flashing USB connected).
I had this problem on SRF1.2 (EC05) and ODIN'd to EH17 last night... there's no way the problem could carry over if it was a software issue right? Well, the USB was connecting/disconnecting as soon as EH17 booted.
Any insight into what is causing this? I'm starting to think my only option is to ODIN back to stock and bring it in to a Sprint store...
UPDATE: It seems the problem has 'stabilized' a bit... the USB connection is now ALWAYS considered to be on and no longer flashes connect/disconnect over and over. Maybe I just need to clean out the USB contacts?
One last bump of this thread for ideas... I really don't want to take it in to a Sprint store. Problem is still ongoing and cripples my phone to just a few hours battery life. Is there some way I can clean out the contacts of the usb connection? This might be where the "false connections" are coming from.
Open to any other ideas.
My girlfriends phone did that for about 10 minutes one day last week. I just took my better than stock micro usb cable and gently jiggled the connection a bit. We haven't had an issue with it since. Her stock cord went bad at that same point in time, so she uses a better one now as well. I would imagine you probably already tried this, but I figured i'd post my experience.

what ROM you running that you can't uninstall it through the standard settings?
you should be able to uninstall with Titanium. at least as a quick fix, but this may be indicative of another issue?
i had the same problem

I had the same problem before. In settings you can disable car mode from launching but every time you use headphones the volume will be stuck because it thinks its in car mode. I think the problem came from a cheap charger that I was using it may have bent or affected the connections some way that made the phone think it was in a car dock. Even when it wasn't plugged into anything. I just bought a better charger and a few weeks later the problem just stopped. I have no idea. hope that helps

here is the thread i ran on this problem... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12027541#post12027541 turning on bluetooth seemed to work for me for most things. Even though the app doesnt launch it still thinks its in a dock so the problem will continue. My best advice is buy a quality charger. I got a dock charger so it charges upright and that seemed to fix everything. But Im not 100% sure. My other Ideas was that I keep my phone in my pocket at work. Im in construction so I thought sweat may have caused a moisture problem in the phone... gross but just a thought haha
Could also be a bad usb port, causing the phone to think it's docked.
ok i'm still struggling with this. maybe the usb port is going bad i have no idea. that being said is there any possible way to remove car mode all together? its not listed as a separate app in titanium but i imagine there must be a way to remove it.
I had the exact same issue and it turned out to be a bad usb port since it happens to be one of the other issues with certain hw versions.. like b spot on nova screens n excessive light leakage. I would recomend flashing a stock rom n taking it to a sprint repair center for an exchange unless you know a particular that is lenient on rooted phones. Good luck.

just to add to this, try flashing a different rom just for kicks, to see if anything changes.
edit: sorry, I guess this was a couple weeks old
Here's a stab in the wind (unless it only happens when you plug it in). The car mode application also responds to magnetic fields. Are there any magnets near where you usually have this problem? (Wallets and purses often have magnets in them)
Having a wierd issue that started last weekend. My phone acts like the car dock is always "on". Thing is it hasn't been on the phone since I installed the rom and deleted it. Phone always answers or dials out with speaker on. Screen rotates and that is checked off. I went as far as switching to a cm nand same thing. Fresh install of cm, mik, myn and even a plain stock rooted. All exhibit the same behavior. Help. And yes I wiped, format all zip. Went as far as unrooting, s-on and back to a 3.29 or something ruu
So in the unrooted it acted the same way. Rerooted tried cm7 latest nightly fresh install upon first boot its loads into car home. Same with mik4.5. Deleted the app and same behavior.
From my best knowledge it did just start randomly
you try deleteing the car panel apk via root explorer?
Yeah it had been deleted. When the issue first started on cm6.1.2 car home was not even installed on phone. So after that and trying to trouble shoot by flashing various roms the issue still persists

I think you have a problem with your USB port. It is thinking it's connected to a car dock, so it launches the car screen. My gf's EVO had this problem, we took it in to Sprint and they cleaned up the connector and it has been fine ever since. They said this has been a common problem, especially with people that use car chargers. The plug on the end of the USB cable gets crap in it, then gets plugged into the phone.

did you check to see if you had any thing related to the car app on your sd card
Cannot find anything on the sdcard related to any car "app"(home or panel), I will go about trying to clean out the charging port tomorrow when I get my hands on some air

Yesterday my girl spilled some liquid by my phone. I didn't think any got in it. Turned off and checked sticker on battery still white so good there. About hour later turned on screen and usb debugging connected usb connected kept flashing in the notification bar. So I turned off again did a restore same problem. Cleared data fix permissions still there. So I decided to move from bonsai 4.0 to ACS
Syndicate runs like a dream btw but that damn debugging crap is still there. If I turn it off its fine doesn't appear. Also I can charge the phone fine and connect phone to add files and odin reconizes it
So my question is two parts. Is going to stock my final option? And if it still happens then are there any hidden stickers I might need to be worried about inside? Don't wanna take it up there and look like a jackass. I'm at work so ill be checking this every hour or so thanks. I'm hoping I'm an idiot and just missing something really simple as I can't figure out why it would that when the port works fine

I have the same issue. MTP is selected, but I don't get any signal from windows that a USB device is connected. It's like plugging it in the usb wall charger, all it does is charge it. If it is the fast charge usb, how do you disable it?

Ok, the Galaxy S II looks to have the same issue.

I noticed this problem when I had fast charge enabled on this rom.. I rectified the issue by disabling the fast charge present in AOKP B30..
Navigate to Rom control and click performance tweaks. You should see a checkbox to disable fast charge there.
Restart your phone after disabling it for the changes to take effect..
After disabling and rebooting your phone, the usb should mount to your computer properly..

Well the mtp fixed it. Guess I should have looked into that first. My bad, thanks for the help guys! Now if only I did not keep getting "System UI has stopped" at random times on aokp...
I've tried changing it from MTP to PTP and turning after switching between the two. I've tried two different roms, one based on 4.0.4 and 4.0.3. I've Tried several different USB cables, including the ones that came with my G2x and Nexus One. I've tried it in a USB 3.0 Port. I've tried using different kernals. Even when I get into recovery, windows still doesn't read somthing is attached. I've been transfering ROMS to it via dropbox. I don't think it's a rom issue as it should still show up in windows when in recovery. Also on those roms I made sure that they didn't have "USB Fast Charge" enabled, as I heard that can cause the issue I'm experience. Thinking it was an issue with CWM, I downgraded it, but still no USB. I'm stuck here. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Their IS a fix for this, but we need the code to get into the PhoneUtil menu and turn USB back on.
It's an issue with Samsung phones apparently, and here's a fix someone found a while ago.
http://blog.vacs.fr/index.php?post/...ot-detected-problem-on-Android-Samsung-phones
We just need the PhoneUtil code for the Galaxy Nexus and we should be all set.
It's a HARDWARE ISSUE with the latest batch of GNexs.
My issue is definitely hardware. I sent my GNex back and they sent me back a new one which I received yesterday. I checked and this one wasn't previously rooted or Unlocked. It worked for a day (worked as in windows saw it and I could xfer music/books/comics to it) after I get home from work Windows stopped recognizing it. I did NOTHING to the phone, it just stopped being seen by windows. I only used the cable that came with it and charged it the night before using the supplied adapter, but the USB still stopped working. Last resort I did a system restore to the phone and the USB still doesn't show up in anything ,Tried 5 of my Windows PC's A bunch of PC's at work, my friends Mac, my Ubuntu powered Netbook, my Xbox360 and PS3, even the Transformer Prime using the keyboard dock. This is telling me it's a hardware issue with the Device. Might be somthing wrong with the latest batch of GNex's but the USB seems to give out. Even if I put the phone in ODIN mode NOTHING recognizes it. So, before you all waste your time finding a fix, this is 100% absolutly a hardware issue with these phones, I don't know why, but I had Two bad ones in a row, and am Hoping my 3rd isn't borked too.
I have a bad history with Android phones....My first Nexus One wouldn't stay on, so I got a replacement from HTC. My first two G2x's would constantly reboot, It wasn't until the 3rd one that I got a working one. Now I'm hoping I don't have to go through 4 bad Galaxy Nexus' before getting one that actually works!
I have the opposite luck with tablets....the Novo7, Iconia A100 and Transformer Prime have been perfect outa box. This ordeal with android phones makes me seriously consider exchanging the GNex for an iPhone4s....but the iPhone4s screen is SOOOOO tiny!!!
Howdy Folks,
I'm looking for some help, because my Galaxy Nexus is kinda frustrating me right now.
For some reason my Galaxy Nexus does not charge anymore, unless I shut my Phone down en while it's rebooting plugging it in.
This part is the same when charging it by the 3 dot connect on the side, or the USB port.
I have not been able to find a fix for this problem, so I would like to uninstall superuser. And Lock my phone again so I can send it back to get it fixed.
But I can't figure out how, Cause my laptop or any other computer i've tried it on. Does not recognize my device..
Could Someone help me restock my phone, without the use of USB.
Galaxy Nexus
Android 4.1.1
JRO03C GSM
Started with the same problem yesterday. Y did notice that if I shut Orr the phone, while in the process, right before shutting off, battery icon jumps to charging.
So I uninstalled some apps I recently downloaded and now it charges.
So. It maybe some app affecting some service. Also use a small brush to clean the connectors in the adapter and phone

Thanks but I'm sure its not a faulty connector. Cause my 3 dot docking station gives the same results. I have had this problem for a month now. Didn't download any apps at the time. I've also did a factory reset. No results. And a reset in recovery mode. But the strange thing about it is. Even thou it wiped all my apps except superuser. It did not remove my music and photos.
