1) I have cm7
2) I downloaded Kernel Manager and downloaded and flashed the latest Tiamat kernel.
After that, my battery will not charge. I have an all in one charger that I can use in my car or plug into an outlet (from Sprint). When I plug in the charger, a light comes on so that I know it's plugged in. However, when I plug it into my phone it won't charge AND it turns off the light on the charger. Luckily I have a coworker that has an EVO and my charger works just fine with his phone.
I've rebooted several times, which is killing my battery. I tried to just flash a new kernel, but now I kept getting errors that flashed too quickly for me to read. I thought, Hey I'll uninstall and re-install. So I uninstalled and tried to open the Market and now I'm getting network errors and can't connect through anything. I'm down to 37% so I can't flash the new cm7.1.
Yes, I'm a n00b but I have researched and Googled and I can't find anyone with the same problem. Feel free to tell me to throw my phone out the window, but I'd really appreciate some help. Even if it's "Take out your SD card and flash cm7.1 when you get home."
TIA.
*EDIT: Thanks for everyone's help. It looks like it is a hardware problem (bad pins). I went back to stock and unrooted so Sprint can fix it/give me a new phone.
Have you taken out the battery, and let it sit out for maybe a good solid minute, then try to charge? it worked for me on the random time it happened, and make sure its plugged into a wall outlet, not a usb port, ect.

I'm defintely just using my wall/car charger since my usb cable is at home.
I left it out for two minutes and I still have the same problem.
Thanks for the suggestion!
Well first try letting the battery cool down just turn off your phone for like 15 min. And see if that works.
If that dont work try this and since you use kernel manager try this.
1.go into the settings of kernel manager and turn off the setting for auto flashing.
2.download the godmode kernel towards the bottom of the list.
3.steel your friends battery with his permission since your running out.
4.boot into recovery and wipe cache/dalvik.
5.(now I take it your in clockwork and not amon since you running cm7 so I'm not sure what you click to do this since unused amon) but go to flash a zip from SD card and look for a folder on the root of your SD called kernel-manager then go to the toastcfh folder and flash the godmode-v9 zip that's in there. Its a great kernel the was made for use with cm7 + all other aosp so it should work. Post your results if it did or didn't work

Did you make a backup before flashing? If so, flash the nandroid and reflash the kernel.
Also, try downloading the kernel to your computer from its respective website, transfer it to your phone, then flash.

What I would try is download the kernel from the dev section [could have gotten a bad flash], then try that.
Also, try another battery in your evo, like you co-workers, because you battery could be super drained and it'll have to be jumped at a sprint store; or leave in on the charger for a few hours and see if it turns on.

I did not backup because I am stupid and was having trouble trying to flash it in recovery (my power button wasn't working as "select", it was just turning my screen off). But I have titanium back up and I didn't flash cm7 so long ago that I would mind flashing the nandroid or a new ROM.
I can't flash right now because my battery is now a very sad 22% and I'm pretty sure my coworker isn't going to lend me his battery. I also don't have my data cable with me so I can't do anything between my phone and computer until I get home.
This is really ****ing with my happy hour plans.

I'm going to try leaving it on the charger to see if it is just the light that is going bonkers with my phone. While the phone was off (after pulling the battery for 10-15 minutes), I plugged in the phone and it turned it on. That's a good sign that it recognized the charger, right?
My coworker isn't going to let me use his battery.

I turned WiMax on for a sec and at least the network started working for me. I installed Kernel Manager again and downloaded Godmode. Of course, I turned WiMax back off.
I was sitting here plugged in for 10 minutes at 17%.

I will post when I try your method, though I'm worried I'm going to have the same problem with my Power button not working like a Select button. It's incredibly nerve racking when your screen just powers off.
Thanks for all the help. Don't worry, I'm hitting the Thanks button, too.

So after my coworker let me charge my battery enough to make it to the Sprint store, they charged it up to about 70% and I wiped and flashed GodMode. All better! It got stuck in a boot loop so i had to reboot but then it was fine. Thank you!
Completely unrelated, but now Launcher Pro Plus is throwing an error and force closing upon start up.

Glad you got it working, and is it just lagging, like not swiping when moving screens or opening the app drawer? if so lock the device, wait a second, then unlock again. Also check your minimum frequency.

It's just whenever I boot up my phone, the very first time it just doesn't work and force closes. As long as I don't turn off my phone, it's fine (mabe a bit laggy, but that's it).
So now that i have been home, my data cable charges my phone just fine (though, it did take longer than usual). I'm at work again, and my charger still doesn't charge my phone! It charges my coworker's phone but not mine. SO WEIRD!

That occasionally happens, where it may take launcher pro an extra minute to load, make sure its on the internal memory to make it the fastest.
And that is weird, I would have suggest you may have been using a bad outlet or cable, but no reason for it to charge one phone and not the other. Its possible you could have a bad usb port, so I'd take it to sprint and see what they say.
So I took it to Sprint and they say I need to go back to stock and unRoot before they will work on my phone. :/
They tried different wall chargers and none work, but USB cables work as long as they are plugged into a computer or AC adapter.
Do I try flashing a different ROM? do I restore my NAND backup from before I rooted? Do I just rely on my data cable to charge my phone and deal with it? UGH.
And now I will never know if i messed my phone up with the kernel flashing business or if it was a true hardware problem.

I think it may be hardware. I only use the data cable via usb, or use the adapter for the wall outlet, and never had a problem.
What's your current setup? You can always change kernels, and if you wana unroot, shoot me a pm and I'll fix ya up.
My problem is the USB stays on whether its plugged in or not, debugging or not and I only have this problem on Gingerbread leaks not on EC05.
Any suggestions?

Had this problem for only a minute. Either do a factory data reset or try reflashing the ROM. Backup first of course.

Searched high and low for this. And I finally found it!
This is the exact problem I am having except it doesn't seem to be confined to ROM. Also, USB still works properly. The problem is the phone keeps thinking it's connecting / disconnecting to USB all day long and for some reason this kills the battery life. It also makes it impossible to see notifications in the bar without sliding it down (the bar is constantly flashing USB connected).
I had this problem on SRF1.2 (EC05) and ODIN'd to EH17 last night... there's no way the problem could carry over if it was a software issue right? Well, the USB was connecting/disconnecting as soon as EH17 booted.
Any insight into what is causing this? I'm starting to think my only option is to ODIN back to stock and bring it in to a Sprint store...
UPDATE: It seems the problem has 'stabilized' a bit... the USB connection is now ALWAYS considered to be on and no longer flashes connect/disconnect over and over. Maybe I just need to clean out the USB contacts?
One last bump of this thread for ideas... I really don't want to take it in to a Sprint store. Problem is still ongoing and cripples my phone to just a few hours battery life. Is there some way I can clean out the contacts of the usb connection? This might be where the "false connections" are coming from.
Open to any other ideas.
My girlfriends phone did that for about 10 minutes one day last week. I just took my better than stock micro usb cable and gently jiggled the connection a bit. We haven't had an issue with it since. Her stock cord went bad at that same point in time, so she uses a better one now as well. I would imagine you probably already tried this, but I figured i'd post my experience.

Alright, here's the deal, this happened about a month ago (ive been stuck with the hero since lol).
I was running ERA EH06 Leak 1.1 (name of the file, i think it was the unnamed rom at the time) which was running perfectly for a few days until I get the google services etc force closes. Anyway I get home from work, I go to switch to stock and reflash to something else (at the time I was flashing roms like crazy lol). Anyway, as im odin'ing to stock, I accidentally pull the usb from the phone in the middle of it and the phone is stuck on the download screen, so I pull the battery and try again.
Now the phone isnt connecting to my computer, and its not even turning on. It wont show anything when I have it plugged into usb, I cant go into recovery or download mode. I saw on another thread a power cycle reset thing that didnt work.
I took it into the sprint store to have them see whats up and they said the usb was pulled off of the motherboard. I open it up myself (im semi experienced in this, and i found a good tutorial online) and nothing is noticeably wrong and the usb isnt pulled off the motherboard.
Also, the battery indicator is red because of "water damage" ( i have taken it in the bathroom with me as I showered, but that was only a few times and I stopped weeks before this happened, so I dont think water damage could be the main problem).
So basically has anyone else had the same or similar issue? Or at least can point me in some direction?
No dl mode? Try taking the battery and SD card out, and holding power and 1 THEN plugging it in still without the battery or SD. No odin then, well...

sent from my epic 4g. with the key skips.
Sweet, yeah I got it up n running, thanks yo! I looked up all over the place and couldnt find anything saying to go into dl mode then plug in the usb! Oh well its working now!
Okay so here is the deal. I just picked this sweet Epic up and started rooting it and I can't get it connected to the pc to get into the files. I set the phone to debugging, and even tried it with it off as well, then I connected the usb (and yes I tried alt cords too) to the pc and selected mass storage (I tried charging too). The pc says it's installing the drivers and even says completed and ready to use but on my computer screen it only shows my hard drive . I downloaded the starter sdk and tried those drivers as well. Even though I could not get it to recognize I started Odin and while phone was on it showed 2 ports, but once I turned the phone off and set it to download mode I get zero, zip, nada for ports available. Now I did see somewhere to set the code back to PDA and top to Modem so I did that as well. Still no luck. I am running stock Froyo EC05 2.2.1 and 2.6.32.9 kernel. Can someone please help me out? I had a Moment before this and never this many issues. Is there a way to just put the card in a reader and install the files and then put it back in my phone and run recovery from there? I've never had to do that before so I was wondering if it's an option if I can't fix this. Last thing is the charging time is way long and the hold isn't lasting long either. I'm no expert or developer, but I'm flashed many ROMs on my moment so I guess you can say I know a little. Please no tech jargon/lingo though to prevent unnecessary communication issues. Suggestions on GB ROMs would be nice too. I tried RandomKing but the links were no good. I hate the stock garbage on there and would love it if someone could help me get them off so I can continue with my rooting agenda.
Try with USB debugging on, connect to the computer then go into control panel and device manager, find phone entry, probably samsung android, then hit update drivers from Windows Update. Takes a while to load all drivers, sometimes more than 30 minutes. Then reboot computer and phone and try it.
As for ROMs they are ALL good. Read the description of each to find out what's in it and if you like it, try it.

Thanks for the reply. I tried that (unknown device) but I just keep getting windows has decided your driver is the best message when I even disabled, re-enabled, removed and re-installed all drivers. It's really bugging me and I'm not one to give up but I spent over 6 hours on this last night and I'm stumped. BTW what 2.3 ROMs do you know of that are stable with the least issues? Just suggestions of course as everyone has their own style...
Stick to the EG22 ROMs since EH06 and EH17 caused many phones to random reboot. After a few days EH17 started disconnected my calls. I have been using a ROM not listed on XDA. It is Bonsai B14 EG22 based. You can google Bonsai Android or click my signature. There are a few good ones in the development section here too.
Sounds like it is definitely a driver issue. There are samsung drivers floating around here. If you don't find a working set I will hunt them down tonight for you.

Thanks for all your help and I'll update you tomorrow.
By the way I was playing a HD game on it today while charging and I got a charging paused, battery too hot or cold... Is this a problem with the EG22 build?
Another thing to make sure of is if your dial ##8778# it will bring up a menu, make sure your device is on pda.. believe it or not this helps some people

Thanx guys... Will let you know what ROM I went with later today...
Working on putting on 2.3.4 EG22 v. Alpha "Hawk" [Journaled] EG22 AIO Volume/Hotspot/Lockscreen/Overscroll/Lag Fix but the download is taking over 2 hrs!
Phone isd not working at all now...
I put it through Odin and was following the prompts on the odin page that said to put victory_8G_100528.pit in pit and the tar in, hit start it went through and said something about partition and then the phone shut off and never came back on. It won't even charge now... NO life at all.
Fixed...
Okay I took the battery and sd card out, and then plugged the usb in while holding 1 & power down. That put it into download mode. From there I just put the battery and card back in and installed clockwork. BTW the only cord that would work was the one that came with the phone. Took me 12 hr to figure that one out because all the forums said to not use it. UGH
Thanks for all the help.
Also watch out for launchers that hide you notification bar, this can bork USB/sdcard detection, I just made a tip thread.

There is a manufacturers cord that is the same connector but doesn't work, not sure which one but I use my old Palm Pre cable and a lot of others use Blackberry cables.
Oh so nice
Okay the new ROM is running great and is oh so sexy, fast and powerful, although I do not like the home page dock layout. I see no issues yet and I'm switching back to the Epic today after I beef up my old moment (which I had swapped to for the day because I thought I soft bricked the Epic beyond recovery) I promised to my mom. I'd like to find a stable GB build for her too but it doesn't look like the programmers have figured that one out yet.
BTW the cord I have is the one that looks a little weird on the end you plug into the phone and seems to be real stiff. I got more phones to mess with so thanks all...
Anyone know of any good tutorial sites that teaches how to develop and write codes? Flashing is one thing but getting to know the nuts and bolts to help others out is where I want to be.
So I have been a long time follower of XDA, did all sorts of things with my Vibrant and just recently got the SGS2 from Sprint. A few days ago I flashed Calkulin's E4GT v2.6 and since then everything has gone down hill:
> The phone started acting like it was "charging" with nothing plugged in, red LED light stayed on and the battery had the charge symbol.
> Car mode began coming on over and over again.
> The phone would freeze and after I took out the battery it would automatically restart with me pushing the power button once the battery was re-inserted.
In hopes to just be down with it I flashed it back to stock with ODIN and everything seemed fine...
Now the phone is constantly freezing, Displaying that I have no service, The touch screen becomes unresponsive while charging, Car mode is still trying to launch.. not as frequently but it has happened. Other minor issues was the pattern lock would display when I woke up the phone even though I never set one...but I could do anything with the pattern to unlock it, even just touching a circle. Worse part in my opinion is either the phone will not recognize the PC or the PC will no longer recognize the phone so I can try ODIN again, same PC, drivers and USB cord being is.
Any suggestions on how I can remedy the situation?
Same thing happened to me, when I tried flashing an AIO over Calkulins you're pretty much done. You'll have to unroot and go to sprint. I ended up getting a new one since I was within the 2 week exchange.

What exactly did you use when you did this? I flashed it back to stock with ODIN
Maybe link to the file(s) you used?
Also maybe the exact steps you took. None of this sounds right. And if you flashed the complete EG30 tar you would be back exactly to when you purchased the phone. Everything would be overwritten so there really wouldn't be anything left to linger and cause issues.
Try a ##786# reset

Once the device started acting funny, I basically pulled out the battery until I got home where I could flash it back.
This is the stock files I have saved to my computer:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1351761
The phone is still somewhat usable, 3G, voice calls, everything works as normal until some of the symptoms start up again. Primarily the issues I am having is the phone completely freezing and occasionally displaying no service and of course not recognizing any PC connection.
Try a ##786# reset from dialer.
To get your MSL, in adb shell, type "getprop ril.MSL" without the quotes. If you use Android Terminal make sure you aren't using the Swype keyboard or it'll auto capitalize the "I" despite being told not to.
Initially, sounds like the USB port has some **** in it or damaged ;p
First off thank you everyone who has replied, I have definitely looked into all of your suggestions throughout the day. Here is what I have come up with.
I tried the ##786# for a clear reboot, all the symptoms still continued =(
I started figiding with the micro USB port and finally was able to get my computer and phone to connect to each other, I have also been reading that the port also causes the phone to spontaneous "ghost" charge and activate car mode.
So I am pretty sure it is a hardware issue, in particular the usb port. Tomorrow I am going to get the parts and make a jig to reset the binary counter and just take it in to Sprint and get an exchange.
