Thanks for your time,

I have the same issue. MTP is selected, but I don't get any signal from windows that a USB device is connected. It's like plugging it in the usb wall charger, all it does is charge it. If it is the fast charge usb, how do you disable it?

Ok, the Galaxy S II looks to have the same issue.

I noticed this problem when I had fast charge enabled on this rom.. I rectified the issue by disabling the fast charge present in AOKP B30..
Navigate to Rom control and click performance tweaks. You should see a checkbox to disable fast charge there.
Restart your phone after disabling it for the changes to take effect..
After disabling and rebooting your phone, the usb should mount to your computer properly..

Well the mtp fixed it. Guess I should have looked into that first. My bad, thanks for the help guys! Now if only I did not keep getting "System UI has stopped" at random times on aokp...

I've tried changing it from MTP to PTP and turning after switching between the two. I've tried two different roms, one based on 4.0.4 and 4.0.3. I've Tried several different USB cables, including the ones that came with my G2x and Nexus One. I've tried it in a USB 3.0 Port. I've tried using different kernals. Even when I get into recovery, windows still doesn't read somthing is attached. I've been transfering ROMS to it via dropbox. I don't think it's a rom issue as it should still show up in windows when in recovery. Also on those roms I made sure that they didn't have "USB Fast Charge" enabled, as I heard that can cause the issue I'm experience. Thinking it was an issue with CWM, I downgraded it, but still no USB. I'm stuck here. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Their IS a fix for this, but we need the code to get into the PhoneUtil menu and turn USB back on.
It's an issue with Samsung phones apparently, and here's a fix someone found a while ago.
http://blog.vacs.fr/index.php?post/...ot-detected-problem-on-Android-Samsung-phones
We just need the PhoneUtil code for the Galaxy Nexus and we should be all set.

It's a HARDWARE ISSUE with the latest batch of GNexs.
My issue is definitely hardware. I sent my GNex back and they sent me back a new one which I received yesterday. I checked and this one wasn't previously rooted or Unlocked. It worked for a day (worked as in windows saw it and I could xfer music/books/comics to it) after I get home from work Windows stopped recognizing it. I did NOTHING to the phone, it just stopped being seen by windows. I only used the cable that came with it and charged it the night before using the supplied adapter, but the USB still stopped working. Last resort I did a system restore to the phone and the USB still doesn't show up in anything ,Tried 5 of my Windows PC's A bunch of PC's at work, my friends Mac, my Ubuntu powered Netbook, my Xbox360 and PS3, even the Transformer Prime using the keyboard dock. This is telling me it's a hardware issue with the Device. Might be somthing wrong with the latest batch of GNex's but the USB seems to give out. Even if I put the phone in ODIN mode NOTHING recognizes it. So, before you all waste your time finding a fix, this is 100% absolutly a hardware issue with these phones, I don't know why, but I had Two bad ones in a row, and am Hoping my 3rd isn't borked too.
I have a bad history with Android phones....My first Nexus One wouldn't stay on, so I got a replacement from HTC. My first two G2x's would constantly reboot, It wasn't until the 3rd one that I got a working one. Now I'm hoping I don't have to go through 4 bad Galaxy Nexus' before getting one that actually works!
I have the opposite luck with tablets....the Novo7, Iconia A100 and Transformer Prime have been perfect outa box. This ordeal with android phones makes me seriously consider exchanging the GNex for an iPhone4s....but the iPhone4s screen is SOOOOO tiny!!!

Newb with USB issues

Hello all. I'm TK, newb who has been lurking for a while. The forum has led me to some awesome changes with my Evo, but that may be catching up with me. I'm still rooted and running CM 7 with SZ 1.01, and none of my computers are able to recognize the USB drive on my phone, regardless of which cable I use.
I can't get ADB to work on my PC, so I'm not able to perform any commands for the phone.
Can anyone help me with this issue? It would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Do you have debugging(in application settings) on when trying to use adb? What about allow mock locations? Try turning debugging off and then turn it back on(while plugged in USB). If that doesn't work you could always go to recovery mode and enable USB toggle and get it connected that way. Also make sure you're actually pulling down the notification bar and selecting "mount".

Does your phone get recognized at all on your computer when you plug it in? If not you may have a hardware problem -> usb port is loose.
On my original cord that came with the phone I had to trim off about 2 centimeters off of the plastic to go in far enough to have my Toshiba laptop to read it. I have had to do the same thing to several cords since. Maybe your usb?

Yes, my computer just says that it doesn't recognize the hardware. it charges just fine by the computer.
I'm running ClockworkMod for my recovery, I'll check for USB Toggle there.
No joy on finding USB Toggle.
It's called something different. Can't remember but it's there, I believe. I've only been in Clockwork recovery like once.

i think my phone is defected cant transfer files on my computer

I rooted my phone and have it with the latest calkulin rom.. the problem is wen i connected to my computer my phone still thinks its charging. and i have no option to turn on the usb mass storage.?? so i dont know if my phone is defected or is it a rom. issue..yet i already tried 2 roms flashing them fresh.. but nothing seems to fix the problem...does any one have any idea what causes this???
settings>wireless and network>usb utilities
With the phone unplugged from the usb click the connect button then connect the usb. You should recognize the standard usb screen at this point.
Some cables (notably most LG branded... But there are others) just don't work... Damned if I know why.

I would flash it back to stock if you already played with different cables and fixed your settings. Getting it exchanged should be easy if your still having the problem on stock.

Youve tried two different power sources, what about a different USB cable? Had that issue before where the cable was bad and only noticed when other USB devices werent connecting through it..or intermittently.
yes i tried different usb cables, different power outlets and different computer's.
also i noticed that when its actually charging on the PC, i don't get the small usb icon on the notification to copy files from pc .. i need to power off/on the phone.
ever happened to anyone ?

Ive never read that here, i have a Telus one also and it shows up right away. The odd time ive noticed that ill hear the usb unplug/replug sound from my pc and the phone will show the USB Connected on the status bar as though it somehow reset its connection. But never had an issue where it stays disconnected.
I also only got that issue with certain roms, i dont remember which though. I ran painlessly on Juggernaut for a while and right now im on Touchless and its also perfect.
I am running on Juggernaut, i recently did a clean install (wipe data .. everything) i was having few issues, i though maybe that would fix the issue.
the phone at times thinks that i have plugged the charger in to charge
and u see the battery icon changing. weird...
Have you tried charging with the phone powered down?

[Q] Galaxy s2 won't boot into download mode for rooting

Hi guy's, I would just like to start off by saying that XDA is a wonderful site full of amazing information. It just so happens that the problem I'm having isn't anywhere on this website which leads me to think if I'm the only one who has this sort of situation. Basically what's going on is that I would like to root my T989, mainly to get rid of carrier bloatware, so I looked around the internet and YouTube videos and learned how to do it, the only problem is that I am failing at the first step of it which is getting it in download mode. I downloaded Odin3 v1.85, then while running Odin I held the volume up+down buttons and at the same time plugged in the USB cable, as soon as I do that the phone boots into a screen that is showing the battery being charged instead of going to the warning screen and Windows says that the device was not recognized and the USB has malfunctioned. I did install the Samsung ADB drivers for the phone, I also turned USB debugging on, and I tried three different computers all with the same results. Oh and if anyone wants to know, I am running Android 2.3.6. Can anyone please help me? I would really appreciate it if you guys could help me find a solution to this.
BTW this is my first thread on XDA

I would remove the battery 1st and let it chill for a sec. Replace the battery, and hold vol - & + and then connect your USB cable. Do this in that exact order and you should have no issues.
Also if your PC isn't recognizing your phone I'd try a different USB cable. Sometimes that works.

I had the same problem with my previous sgs2, i tried everything from uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, used a different usb cable, tried a different laptop and nothing fixed it, if your computer wont recognize the phone after trying everything you can think of, then do what i did and get a warranty exchange, after that my new sgs2 connected perfectly

remember that **** well lol.
TO OP:
There are a couple things you can still try, but chances are slim since you did try 3 different computers. It might have been possible that the installation of the drivers (when you plug in your phone) was interrupted somehow and it left an incomplete installation. You would need to download usbdeview and remove/delete/uninstall (forgot what term was used) everything android/samsung related.
Plug in your phone when it's on in the homescreen or something.. let it sit for like 5-10 mins for it to install everything.. there is like 5 things or so. Now try to go into download mode.
If that doesn't work, make sure you're using the t989 drivers.
if that doesn't work, then install kies
Try to mix and match USB wires and USB ports on the computer.

[Q] Galaxy Nexus USB Malfunction

Hi all. Long time lurker, first time poster here.
I have had my Galaxy Nexus for around a year now and have never had any problems - I've flashed countless ROMs and kernels, etc. However, just recently my phone has stopped being recognized by my computer(s). I've searched and searched and read every thread remotely related to the problem and still the problem persists.
At first I thought it was the new Macbook I was using, or OSX, but I've tried everything I can think of in Windows, OSX, and Linux.
When plugged in, I get nothing in OSX - finder won't find it, android file transfer won't find it, adb won't find it. In Windows, I get an unknown device in device manager, and a popup on the toolbar saying the device has malfunctioned. I've tried all three driver installs with Wug's toolkit, switching from MTP to PTP, turning Debugging on and off, flashing new roms and kernels, installing drivers manually, installing drivers through the Android SDK, even different computers - but every time I get "The USB Device has malfunctioned," or nothing at all in OSX's case. I've even tried a laptop running Ubuntu - still a no go. All the while the phone shows it is charging fine, but no indication of being connected to a PC like it used to do.
I've even tried bending the USB port a little as I've read in some guides and cleaning out the port - no luck. I have yet to try a different cable - one is on the way - but my next step is to replace the USB port board myself, unless anyone has ANY ideas.
It charges fine and never has any problems, it's just I cannot get it to be recognized by anything I plug it into.
I don't have an option to enable/disable fast charge in this ROM (currently on CM10) but I have disabled it in one of the ROMs I flashed to and still no luck.
Is there anything I've yet to try, besides using a different cable? Maybe fast charge was enabled in another kernel and it's screwed up some stuff? Although that seems impossible because I've factory reset/wiped everything and flashed different ROMs and kernels and still nothing. I just don't know at this point.
Any input at all would be great, but I understand if there's nothing else I can do besides trying a new cable and then replacing the board. I finally get going in Android development and this brick wall stops me in my tracks.
Thanks guys.
Try to clean the port (by blowing all the dust out of the usb-port)
For now, just use 'Wifi-explorer'. I use it ALOT just to save my USB-port
The two options you came up with yourself sounds most plausible. I've been through a ton of MiniUSB cables that have gone bad out of nowhere (just lying in my briefcase). So test that one first before buying a new USB port.
Well what do you know, it was the USB cable. I cannot fathom how a USB cable just stops working on the data side of things but still charges after just sitting around. I found another cable in a drawer, plugged it in, and voila, everything's working. Glad I don't have to replace anything, though. Woo!
Good thing is though I now know my way around the drivers and the SDK and am pretty sure I could write a guide on everything you could do to fix a USB issue. The more you know!

I had been using AirDroid before and loved it. And even though it was a cable problem, I know know my USB port is squeaky clean, ha.
