[Q] Gnex Charging problems, USB not recognized, How to unroot lock? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Howdy Folks,
I'm looking for some help, because my Galaxy Nexus is kinda frustrating me right now.
For some reason my Galaxy Nexus does not charge anymore, unless I shut my Phone down en while it's rebooting plugging it in.
This part is the same when charging it by the 3 dot connect on the side, or the USB port.
I have not been able to find a fix for this problem, so I would like to uninstall superuser. And Lock my phone again so I can send it back to get it fixed.
But I can't figure out how, Cause my laptop or any other computer i've tried it on. Does not recognize my device..
Could Someone help me restock my phone, without the use of USB.
Galaxy Nexus
Android 4.1.1
JRO03C GSM

Started with the same problem yesterday. Y did notice that if I shut Orr the phone, while in the process, right before shutting off, battery icon jumps to charging.
So I uninstalled some apps I recently downloaded and now it charges.
So. It maybe some app affecting some service. Also use a small brush to clean the connectors in the adapter and phone

Thanks but I'm sure its not a faulty connector. Cause my 3 dot docking station gives the same results. I have had this problem for a month now. Didn't download any apps at the time. I've also did a factory reset. No results. And a reset in recovery mode. But the strange thing about it is. Even thou it wiped all my apps except superuser. It did not remove my music and photos.

Had this problem for only a minute. Either do a factory data reset or try reflashing the ROM. Backup first of course.

Searched high and low for this. And I finally found it!
This is the exact problem I am having except it doesn't seem to be confined to ROM. Also, USB still works properly. The problem is the phone keeps thinking it's connecting / disconnecting to USB all day long and for some reason this kills the battery life. It also makes it impossible to see notifications in the bar without sliding it down (the bar is constantly flashing USB connected).
I had this problem on SRF1.2 (EC05) and ODIN'd to EH17 last night... there's no way the problem could carry over if it was a software issue right? Well, the USB was connecting/disconnecting as soon as EH17 booted.
Any insight into what is causing this? I'm starting to think my only option is to ODIN back to stock and bring it in to a Sprint store...
UPDATE: It seems the problem has 'stabilized' a bit... the USB connection is now ALWAYS considered to be on and no longer flashes connect/disconnect over and over. Maybe I just need to clean out the USB contacts?
One last bump of this thread for ideas... I really don't want to take it in to a Sprint store. Problem is still ongoing and cripples my phone to just a few hours battery life. Is there some way I can clean out the contacts of the usb connection? This might be where the "false connections" are coming from.
Open to any other ideas.
My girlfriends phone did that for about 10 minutes one day last week. I just took my better than stock micro usb cable and gently jiggled the connection a bit. We haven't had an issue with it since. Her stock cord went bad at that same point in time, so she uses a better one now as well. I would imagine you probably already tried this, but I figured i'd post my experience.

[Q] Black screen of death?

Here is what happened on my month new Galaxy Nexus.
1. Listening to mp3 via Bluetooth headset
2. Playing a game
3. Standing up
4. On a train
Sound stopped working across everything, in the game and on the mp3. Tried killing the applications and reloading, the mp3 player refused to even start the mp3.
Rebooted the phone, well, I turned it off. It has never turned back on. Tried removing the battery, all that, nothing.
Got home, tried plugging in the USB into a PC. Nothing. Tried booting into recovery mode, nothing, other than the PC claiming to have found a new device.
I haven't plugged it into a PC in recovery mode before. I haven't even seen recovery mode on the Galaxy Nexus.
I was running OTA Vodafone UK 4.0.2 I hadn't even considered rooting it or anything.
Anyone know if this is salvageable or had the same happen to them?
Hi. If popping the battery does no good I'd get it replaced without any further investigation. Sounds like hardware fail, so long as you are sure you have not got it wet or caused any damage to it.

If you cant bring it back on after a battery pull then its a dead phone for sure
I had the same problem last month. An usb jig solved the problem.
USB Jig?
Any more details? Something you can point me at?
Cheers

Appropriate?
So does the phone show anything at all? Does the screen come up for any amount of time? Can you get into bootloader?
So for completeness I have exactly this issue:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1384415
Basically this paragraph:
An item under "Other Devices" called "OMAP4440" keeps appearing and dissapearing all the time, with the little "!" mark next to it indicating that there is a driver error. The drivers for this phone are fully installed on this same PC, and it use to work fine before it went dead.

Sounds like a USB Jig might do it. But in this case its back to vodafone and jumping through those hoops.
For the record I hadn't done anything at all to the phone than a normal consumer would. i.e. no rooting, hacking, booting, fruiting or cheesing.
It just died.

I have the same issue. MTP is selected, but I don't get any signal from windows that a USB device is connected. It's like plugging it in the usb wall charger, all it does is charge it. If it is the fast charge usb, how do you disable it?

Ok, the Galaxy S II looks to have the same issue.

I noticed this problem when I had fast charge enabled on this rom.. I rectified the issue by disabling the fast charge present in AOKP B30..
Navigate to Rom control and click performance tweaks. You should see a checkbox to disable fast charge there.
Restart your phone after disabling it for the changes to take effect..
After disabling and rebooting your phone, the usb should mount to your computer properly..

Well the mtp fixed it. Guess I should have looked into that first. My bad, thanks for the help guys! Now if only I did not keep getting "System UI has stopped" at random times on aokp...
I've tried changing it from MTP to PTP and turning after switching between the two. I've tried two different roms, one based on 4.0.4 and 4.0.3. I've Tried several different USB cables, including the ones that came with my G2x and Nexus One. I've tried it in a USB 3.0 Port. I've tried using different kernals. Even when I get into recovery, windows still doesn't read somthing is attached. I've been transfering ROMS to it via dropbox. I don't think it's a rom issue as it should still show up in windows when in recovery. Also on those roms I made sure that they didn't have "USB Fast Charge" enabled, as I heard that can cause the issue I'm experience. Thinking it was an issue with CWM, I downgraded it, but still no USB. I'm stuck here. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Their IS a fix for this, but we need the code to get into the PhoneUtil menu and turn USB back on.
It's an issue with Samsung phones apparently, and here's a fix someone found a while ago.
http://blog.vacs.fr/index.php?post/...ot-detected-problem-on-Android-Samsung-phones
We just need the PhoneUtil code for the Galaxy Nexus and we should be all set.
It's a HARDWARE ISSUE with the latest batch of GNexs.
My issue is definitely hardware. I sent my GNex back and they sent me back a new one which I received yesterday. I checked and this one wasn't previously rooted or Unlocked. It worked for a day (worked as in windows saw it and I could xfer music/books/comics to it) after I get home from work Windows stopped recognizing it. I did NOTHING to the phone, it just stopped being seen by windows. I only used the cable that came with it and charged it the night before using the supplied adapter, but the USB still stopped working. Last resort I did a system restore to the phone and the USB still doesn't show up in anything ,Tried 5 of my Windows PC's A bunch of PC's at work, my friends Mac, my Ubuntu powered Netbook, my Xbox360 and PS3, even the Transformer Prime using the keyboard dock. This is telling me it's a hardware issue with the Device. Might be somthing wrong with the latest batch of GNex's but the USB seems to give out. Even if I put the phone in ODIN mode NOTHING recognizes it. So, before you all waste your time finding a fix, this is 100% absolutly a hardware issue with these phones, I don't know why, but I had Two bad ones in a row, and am Hoping my 3rd isn't borked too.
I have a bad history with Android phones....My first Nexus One wouldn't stay on, so I got a replacement from HTC. My first two G2x's would constantly reboot, It wasn't until the 3rd one that I got a working one. Now I'm hoping I don't have to go through 4 bad Galaxy Nexus' before getting one that actually works!
I have the opposite luck with tablets....the Novo7, Iconia A100 and Transformer Prime have been perfect outa box. This ordeal with android phones makes me seriously consider exchanging the GNex for an iPhone4s....but the iPhone4s screen is SOOOOO tiny!!!

Note 2 Rogers Canada acting very very strange

Hey Guys,
So i've done some research all evening here and I've done nothing different than i'd do any other day with the phone and all of a sudden today around 6 PM eastern the phone started acting up. I came home from work plugged it in and it started to lag and then froze, finally unfroze and got that error " Unfortunately, %1$S %2$S has stopped running. I only have the option to click (ok) So I would do that and I thought all was well, turns out this is not the case. When this error pops up it also disables the phone from charging. I unplug and plug back in, the phone starts to freeze and the error comes back. I've been doing some online re-search some people say it's a synch issue with google and to turn synch of, did so, still same error. Some people have said unplug charger, power off phone wait 10 seconds, plug charger back on and boot up, this also did not resolve my issue. I will say that if the power cable is not in the device, it works fine. After about 2 hours of trying different things, I plugged it back into the charger and the phone started acting out really strange, changing from screen to screen and indicating " The dock is connected" I don't own a dock and the phone has never been into dock. I'm using the stock charger that came with the Note 2.
I will say I have TWRP installed and I've been using the JEDI X Rom for this phone without any problems. I thought, okay well none of this is working maybe it's the rom acting up, so I decided to go into recovery wipe all cache & system and re-installed the rom, same thing. The dock is connected, phone freezing and Unfortunately, %1$S %2$S has stopped running. So, I re-did everything again, wiped all cache systems, fixed permission and put the stock rom back on the phone. Now the phone is indicating in stock mode that the "dock is connected" when really it's just the charger. The phone is going into the time out then pops back on automatically all by it's self. Not getting the Unfortunately, %1$S %2$S has stopped running anymore though. the phone is 3 weeks old, and i'm at a loss here as to what I should do next.
Any suggestions, if not, Is there away to erase the phone "call" time so I can get it down to below 30 minutes so I can return this one for a new one?
Thanks,
Well, after hours of reading, I came across this post for an Android EVO phone and it mentioned something about a connect point of the charging port in the phone and said slightly bend the charger cable when it's attached inside, I tried this at a last cause and everything fixed itself, I re-flashed Jedi X and all errors have cleared itself. I find it strange because I'm very gentle with inserting/disconnecting these cables...
Thanks,
I'm not surprised. I've had similar issues with a S2 and other Sammy phones. In fact my brothers Galaxy S as well. He had to get the whole board replaced. I hate MicroUsb. Although its nice to have a generic sync port that is the same across almost all Android devices, this port needs to change.
Just my $0.02. Glad to see you figured it out. Knock on wood my Note2 hasent had these issues yet.

[Q] Why won't my Galaxy Nexus power on?

I have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus. It is had some water damage in the past (making it near impossible to get repaired under warranty) and that has caused it to act funny. Funny = Powering off at random times and rebooting itself/causing the buttons to act silly. Recently it did the thing where it powered off and now it won't come back on. I know the power button still works and it is charging because when I plug it in the charging symbol pops up when I press the power button. However it won't power on. I plug it in to my laptop and it charges but my laptop does not recognize it is plugged in. Is there any sort of program I can download that will allow me to get into my phone or anything I can do? Also I have tried the Power and Volume buttons to try and power it into Bootloader mode but that does not work either. Neither does pulling the battery or putting a different battery in or using a different charger.
Isnt it clear it is dead? Electric stuff+water=death. (Physics 101)

So your galaxy nexus turned into a Nexus 4? Or is there another reason you're in this forum?
Rude
Why are you people so mean? I am looking for help, really just a program that would allow me to plug my dead phone into the computer (since it indicates it is charging) and allows me to get files off of it. That would be nice.

Hey man,
I'm not sure if your gnex is salvageable, but if when you plug it into your laptop it indicates charging perhaps you may be able to get to your data. First question...do you have usb debugging enabled in settings? We have to get your laptop to recognize the phone as a drive, then try to grab the files. Tell me more about what happens when you connect it. We aren't all mean, some here just forget how it was when they had nothing but questions and no answers. Most in the forums are very helpful, regardless of experience level.

Thanks for your civil post, I will try my best to inform you more on what my phone is doing.
When I plug it into the laptop it does indicate it is charging but that is the only sign of life I can get out of it. After reading a little bit more on the issue I figure might be the power button that is the issue since it is running JellyBean. One solution that I have tried that has yielded interesting results is plugging the phone into the laptop via USB without the battery in the phone. My computer then makes the "beeping" sound like it is connecting to it and then "beeps" again like it can't connect.
I can't post a link but if you google katzz ifixit then you can go to the website I went to that described the issue and gave the solution I just described. Katzz is the name of the user who posted the solution.
I'm pretty sure I have USB debugging enabled in the settings because before my phone stopped responding I plugged it into the computer a lot to transfer files.
Is there any sort of program that would allow me to turn on my phone from my computer even though I can't seem to get my computer to recognize my phone?
