Installing InsertCoin, are my partitions correct? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I'm coming from LeeDroid 3.0.7 with A2SD, and I would like to install a more modern rom perhaps with Sense 3.0.
I read the requirements for the latest InsertCoin with Sense 3.0
Requirements:
A2SD CM7 HBOOT - cm7 hboot from alpharev.nl - the one with 130 mB for /system
- 1 gB ext2/3/4 partition
A2SD+ STOCK HBOOT - stock hboot - the one with 250 mB for /system
- 1 gB ext2/3/4 partition

and I don't really understand them. Can anyone help me out? Does it mean I can have a Stock HBOOT (which mine is) but I have to have 250MB /system partition and a 1GB /ext3 partition?
At present according to system info app I have : 457MB A2SD storage, 148MB Internal storage, 250MB System storage, 40MB system cache, 405MB memory. Does this mean I need to increase the ext3 partition from 512MB to 1GB, and if so is that done by clockworkmod?
thanks, sorry for the long post.

With the stock hboot you already have 250MB /system. You can use Clockwork recovery (v3+) otherwise you would need to use a partition manager. Please bare in mind that to increase your ext partition, it will completely wipe your SD card so make sure you back it up.

thanks for the quick reply. If I manage to increase the ext3 partition to 1GB, am I right in thinking I need CM 3+ anyway in order to flash the rom?

[Q] Less Internal memory (40MB) after flashing Insertcoin 1.1.1

Hi,
Sday I got S-OFF & rooted my Desire with Revolutionary and flashed my first custom ROM Insertcoin 1.1.1.
But after installing the ROM, I have only 40 MB internal memory..
I have done the partition of my SD card with ext3 (512MB).
Am I doing something wrong ??? Can anybody please help what should I do to increase my internal memory...
It's recommended that the EXT size for Insertcoin is 1GB.
Are you using A2SD or CM7 version of the ROM?
I am using CM7 version have 50 apps installed and still have 100MB left.
I am using CM7 version of ROM. Can I change the partition again to 1 GB from 512 MB ?
Also my HBOOT version is 6.93.0.0.1

Yes you can change the partition but you'll likely lose all data on your SD card in the process so make a backup first of your SD card's contents before repartitioning.
You also need to use CM7r2 partition table for your HBoot.
OK. I will take back up then I will repartition to 1 GB.
Can you please tell me, how to change my partition table of HBoot to CM7r2.
Do I need to use Downgrader image first and then flash with CM7r2 image ?

As far as I know, if you just rooted and is still on Bravo Stock partition, you do not need to flash the downgrader. But if you are already on any HBOOT and would want to change, then that's the time you flash the downgrader before flashing your new partition table.
I suggest you check out some threads here first just to be sure since I haven't changed to any other partition yet since I flashed CM7r2. So I have no first hand experience with the downgrader process.
EDIT: Since you used Revolutionary, they might have implemented different security so you may need to flash the Downgrader. Sorry I am not that knowledgeable since I've used Unrevoked when I flashed my device.

You can either use GParted on your computer or your phone's custom recovery to partition your SD card. Most users here I notice recommends GParted. I however partitioned mine via recovery.
I Just formatted and partitioned my SD card with recovery to 1GB. Then I installed A2SD version of Insertcoin 1.1.1 since I have stock HBOOT. Now everything works fine.. Now I have 135 MB free space

[Q] Cool Sensation v7 Internal Memory full even a2sd is used

Hi, I cannot post to the thread
[ROM][Cool3D Sense 3.0][19 Aug]Cool Sensation v7|Stable|CM7/r2|DATA++|STOCK
because not enough post count.
I am using HTC Desire, I just upgrade this ROM and v7 is just release few days ago. I apply a2sd and it works well. I have check the sd-ext folder and symlink like this:
/data/app -> /sd-ext/app
/data/app-private -> /sd-ext/app-private
/system/app -> /sd-ext/app_s
/data/dalvik-cache -> /sd-ext/dalvik-cache
Now after I full sync, restore all call log and SMS, etc + install 57 apps, my internal memory very low, only 15mb free.
Can I symlink /data/data to /sd-ext/data also?
Is it possible to use Data2Sd instead of a2sd for this ROM?
I like this ROM because it have the new HTC Sense 3.
Do you use the version which corresponds with your hboot?
Wipe dalvik cache and flash this. It's A2SD taken from VU 1.31. It moves dalvik to ext and includes btrfs support.

Oh. good point here almost confused hboot with recovery.
I just s-off with Revolitionary to flash 4ExtRecovery. What I know it is based on ClockWorkMod Recovery which added support for ext4, mount disk drive, convert ext3 <-> ext4, aligned partitioning, MD5 check. I use this because I dont have Linux os to create partition on my sd card using gparted.
So mine one should be based on stock hboot but s-off by Revolutionary. The Cool Sensation say it require CM7, Data++ or stock Hboot. Should not be a problem. What I know, hboot is just a bootloader to use fastboot, enter recovery mode or run Android normally.
Why I need to specifically use this hboot?
Does hboot related with any ROM zip being flash?
What the memory size for system, cache and data indicate in the Cool Sensation requirement?
If I really need to reflash and change to CM7 hboot, can I straight away do it without wipe data and reflash the ROM again?
and Does the hboot really give impact to internal memory space decrease over time?
(sorry to many question, this is just my 2nd time reflashing my phone, answer anything you can)

I think this is the one in the "Dalvik.Cache To SD-EXT" link with a2sd.KD.zip file name. I apply this already otherwise I will get internal memory critically low in the first boot.
My dalvik-cache already symlink-ed to the /sd-ext/dalvik-cache
Any idea? move /data/data to sd-ext also? or how to change to Data2sd?

You can't change. That file I attached is not the same as one in coolexe's thread. I have CM7r2, ~80 apps and only 100 MB spent on data partition.

I modified it myself. It's the VU 1.31 A2SD script with btrfs support. I'd say CM7r2 HBOOT is more user friendly than stock.
ok, I will try CM7r2 hboot then. I just realize the space become decrease over time. during I open this thread 15mb free. last few hours ago 8 mb and now only 7mb remaining. something went wrong here. I try to remove all apps see if it consistently decrease or maybe I need to reflash or change hboot.

Anyway actually I can have 200 over apps in this phone before, just using ModaCo for Froyo with app2sd+. Now I can post the thread.
Reading the CS thread from 22th Aug until today. now I understood why we need to change hboot. It is because hboot defines the system, cache and data internal partition size. I dont want to stuck on 147Mb even I use a2sd, sd ext4 and symlinked well, so I will change to CM7r2 to get about 300mb of data size first.
Then do what ckpv5 advice to improve performance and have a lot of space. Wish me luck.

Try flashing the rom again.
I cannot tell so much about this as I am having trouble flashing the new Hboot cm7r2!
i flashed again. now i m having 134 mb available internal storage.
but it isn't enough for me because i will setup a lot of apps. how can i move that apps to my sd cart or external storage?
I believe that if you flash the cm7r2 version you should have more than 134 mb after the first boot... I am on stock hboot version and I can remember that I started with 137 mb.
By the way did you flash the sd2sdx file? If yes, did you flash it immediayely after flashing the rom?

Backup your sd-card. Boot this (on your PC), reformat your SD-Card and make sure you have:
FAT32 Partition XXGB (Primary)
EXT4 Partition 1024mb (Primary)

flash this via fastboot, do a full wipe, reflash.
should do it, if it still doesn't work then I have no idea what may be wrong lol

The partition will not show in the phone storage, but it will still be there, doing its job. From what I know, the ROM doesn't move Dalvik Cache to ext, so that will consume space. Install this from recovery to move data/app and Dalvik to ext: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/48303918/apps_dalvik2ext-UNSIGNED.zip

Are you even following the guide posted above or what I posted?
Backup the sd card, start again. Make the partition without swap, you don't need it
Then if you read the first post of the rom thread:
* Cyanogen A2SD script tweaked by me, moves both Apps and Dalvik to EXT.
So the partition should work automatically, don't flash anything else. As stated above you won't 'see' your total internal memory = 'internal + sd-ext', but it is working. Use an app like 'DiskUsage' to check and browse all your partitions
Also currently I assume you are on stock hboot with 250MB System, 40MB cache and small 147MB Data
If you want a bit more space for apps, you can flash data++ hboot as advised in the first post
DATA++ Hboot 180MB System, 5MB Cache, 252MB Data
Search for guide how to flash hboot, recommend to flash using fastboot

Don't know about the nano version...you need to understand how big the /system size of that version is before you choose the right hboot. Search or ask in rom thread. Or download the rom.zip and open it (don't need to extract) with program like 7zip, check the /system size
It's not about 'latest' hboot. Download the hboots from alpharev.nl, you'll see them all listed. You choose the 'right' one to fit your Rom's /system size, therefore maximum /data (internal memory) >>> more space for apps :good:
For instance if the nano version has /system size 175MB, it will fit into data++ hboot with 180MB /system, you waste only 5MB and get and 252MB /data
However if you install it on stock hboot like you have now, it has 250MB /system, so you waste 75MB on /system, only get 147MB /data
Please try to understand this before proceeding...
To change hboot, search 'HTC Desire how to flash hboot' (I'm on mobile), I recommend to findguide which uses fastboot
Eventually:
- Backup everything if you haven't already, apps using titanium, contacts top Google account etc
- Backup and repartition sd card as instructed
- Flash recommended hboot
- Reboot back into recovery

Did you even read what eddie said? Try taking a look at his post above again, and understand what he is saying before you do anything.
cm7r2 or oxygenr2 will not work with cooldroid (not enough space for system). You need to check the system size of the rom, before looking at how much data you get.
Cooldroid needs atleast 165mb on the system partition. Therefore the most optimal hboot would be data++ like eddie and the OP of cooldroid said. Also 5mb is fine for the cache partition. I doubt you will notice any performance problems, so its nothing to worry about.
To install the hboot you can either use fastboot (you need the .img version of the hboot) or the PB99IMG method (you need the .zip version of the hboot).
Download the hboots from alpharev.nl,

Please read the rom thread and what I have posted...
You don't need to flash anything extra, the rom comes with an a2sd script...

hi thanks for your kindness
u give me the link hboots from alpharev.nl, there is a table on this site now how i know which file to install
Click to collapse
The table has each hboot info listed. Fist column is the size of /system (This should be the ROM size + 5mb), second column is the size of /cache (Doesn't really matter) and the third column is the size of /data, the internal memory. You choose the best for your ROM (As I said, it should be larger than ROM size +5mb)
Thanks for Reply

That ROM is 244 MB in size, so you need a hboot with a 250 MB /system partition.
The CM7r2 and Oxygen hboots have smaller /system partitions, so the ROM won't fit.
Thanks got little more
ok if hboot is 250Mb installed then Rom will also install under 250MB . thats good
i need sapce so want to install The CM7r2 and Oxygen hboots have smaller /system partitions then where can i find smaller size ROM

Try Non-sense ROMs, like Mildwild ROMs They work fine with the cm7r2 hboot.
Cool droid works with Data++ hboot aswell so ud have a bit more internal memory.
Thanks man i learn alot from u

Yes make the partition first. I would suggest this order: install optimized hboot for the rom you want, create partition. full wipe, flash rom.
Most of milwilds roms come with a2sd built in so you dont need to install anything extra.
