Ok guys let me start by saying thank you in advance. I thought I bricked my last incredible when trying to unroot it and return to stock by flashing the wrong p31.... file. I realized I had the newer slcd screen to late and had no picture when trying to turn the phone back on. All I got was the vibrate but no picture. Anyway I tried the recommendation on the forum and tried to flash it blind...... then I dropped in water! As I was doing it.
I have read and read but can't tell if I have amoled or slcd. Looking the screen with magnifier, etc. Is there a sure fire way to tell so I don't screw up an unroot if I try? I read that hardware version 0002 usually meant amoled... need more than usually! Lol.
My stats, stock: of course this is a replacement phone and the under the battery sticker that would have been on stock is not there a refurbished in the Philippine took its spot...

Assuming the screen works, yes, you can tell with a magnifying glass or a SMALL drop of water on the screen. An LCD will show colored squares. The AMOLED the dInc uses will show what's called a RBGB pattern (red, blue, green, blue pattern) when viewing a white screen. Also, the backlight will be seen through a black screen on an LCD, which will be very obvious in a dark room. Again, this is assuming the device works correctly.
Easy way to tell: Hardware version 002=AMOLED, 003=SLCD.

i didn't know this. thank you.
Just a note on most refurbished phones that information is not there, they placed a refurbished in " " sticker for me it says Philippines and the only information on the sticker is MEID number and couple barcode numbers.
However if you have one that hasn't been refurbished Ie: you never took your old one to verizon for a replacement or through an insurance company claim then you should have factory sticker(info) under battery.

This doesn't seem to be true anymore if you flash the new 2.3.4 leak... I've had my inc since the day it came out and it always used to say 002 for the hardware version, but since I've flashed the new 2.3.4 leak, it now says hardware version 003... can anyone else confirm this?? FYI I flashed the one JoelZ posted
I would imagine that's because the GB leak has a sprint build.prop. Unless you changed it yourself or whoever put the rom out changed it, it will show some incorrect information.

I know I have an AMOLED screen.
But I've been seeing hardware = 0003 under MIUI ROMs and Nils' Gingerbread too, so I doubt it has anything to do with Sprint-related origins.
Hardware version 2 is Amoled and version 3 is SLCD

On MIUI, the settings menu doesn't even show hardware version. Only place I've seen it is in one of setCPU's "about" menus, and it was reported 002 which is correct. As for nil's rom, I thought it was based off a sprint rom but that could be incorrect.
You have to look at your stats when your phone is bone stock....
0002 is AMOLED and 0003 is SLCD. However when you flash a new rom, etc whatever that rom was built on is what will show up under hardware version. So if you looked and wrote down your stats when your phone was stock and it is hardware version 0002 its AMOLED and 0003 is SLCD.
I am using Nils gingersense 3.0 ver 1.6 and under the hardware version it says 0003 but I know mine is the older AMOLED 0002, And when I flash my " stock with root" backup my hardware version shows me 0002 like when I first powered it on from verizon.
Screen size is another thing I noticed will be wrong when flashing custom roms etc. Flashed one that had my screen size at 4.3" lol I got an incredible so I know thats false... My advice to anyone would be to record all your information on a lil notepad before changing anything incase you forget.

So I just put Clockwork Recovery on an new SLCD Droid Incredible. I was about to flash the IncDoes new Sense Rom which I'm also running on an Amoled Incredible (and enjoying on that device) and decided to pause for a second before doing it wondering if anyone had done it already. Are the roms compatible between the SLCD and Amoled Incredibles? Any one know? Or am I treading in uncharted waters?

You want to sell me your AMOLED Droid Incredible? I'm desperately looking for another INC to dev on...

Well my company owns both of these, so I can't sell the other one.
So my SLCD DINC will not show Clockworks screens. I just get a black screen with two white lines down either side. phone boots fine and i can get to the bootloader screen but when i try to go into clockwork I only get the black screen with the white outside lines.
Are you using Clockwork? Did you use UnRevolked to load it or Fastboot?
How are you using fastboot, I take it you flashed the mfg hboot?

Actually I'm not, I used Unrevolked3 to install Clockworkrecovery and supposedly root. But when I run ADB with the SDK it finds the device but it doesn't seem that I really have root.
I had remembered Fastboot-Windows from my previous work with the Nexus and original Droid. I cheated with Unrevolked3 this time, and it worked flawlessly on the Amoled Dinc, but not this SLCD Dinc
the real issue is that I can't see Clockwork's screens at all. Just a black screen with white lines down the side. I can clearly get to the phone through ADB cause it's listed and I can run commands like SU, although it tells me permission denied when I run SU. So it sounds like something didn't quite go right?
I'm not a developer, I'm just a guy that plays with ROMs on a lot of different phones.
Yeah I ran unrevoked on mine as well (just got an SLCD version today). I can backup ROMs and everything with full root access, but when booting into clockwork all it shows is black screen with white on the sides, so I can't actually tell what it's doing until it reboots.

how can you tell you can back up roms with it? Do you know that the controls work? + - for up and down and the power for select? and are you just memorizing the locations?
I just opened up Rom Manager on my phone and when I choose make backup it goes to that black screen and when it finishes it reboots. When I go into ROM Manager it shows that there was a backup made.
I would definitely like a version that could be useable when going through manually into recovery though.

Wow, I've gotta get with the program. I haven't browsed this forum enough. I had no idea a tool like ROM manager was out there. found it downloaded it loading .7 now on the SLCD Dinc. Black screen with white now as it's loading the rom, no messages on whether it's working or not. Kind of scary, but I'll let it run.
Looks like a very cool tool.

if it ends with w2 then it's amoled
if it ends with w3 is slcd

Sounds like you're in refurb hell. What you're describing is a classic hardware failure, likely the radio.

Flashing a different baseband isn't going to accomplish anything other than wasting time and effort. As I have stated, what the OP has described is symptomatic of hardware failure. Assuming that it is the radio, the one and only way for anyone to fix it would be disassembling the phone and replacing the radio.
Try plugging in the usb to your charger. ...then do a soft boot
Since people continue to post the same question over and over, I just went to another post to copy and paste my standard response:
jdmba said:
I can advise from personal experience on your symptoms that you have one choice ... Return to verizon for a refurb. This is what happens when you have an early incredible with a faulty hardware radio. It gets to the point where it starts trying to compensate and super heats. You must return.
Every other suggestion would be a mask to an existing well known hardware problem.

I have a 002 Evo from launch day. It's started missing calls. Like no missed call notification, nothing in my call log. I'm afraid all I can do is swap it out under TEP. If anyone has any suggestions other than replacing it, let me know! Of course I've rebooted my phone. I know most of you will be jealous...but I have my choice of hardware versions for my replacement phone. (One of the techs in my Sprint store is also my friend.)
Those of you that have 004s, are you happy with your camera, and the ROMs you can run where your camera works? I'm rooted and currently running Fresh 3.5.0.1, but want to play around with Shinzul's 4g CM, Miui, a gb ROM, and maybe an HD or Z ROM. I have run Miui, as well as CM in the past. Should I ask for a 002, or will I be able to use a 004 with the camera working?
Also, suggestions for backing up and restoring to the new hardware phone would be appreciated. I'm thinking of nandroiding and removing the wimax.img before restoring. Will that be ok on new hardware, with new H-boot and all? I have H-boot .76, running the 11.19 radio (have tried going back to the original, no better), the original wimax radio, and PRI 1.34_003. Fresh 3.5.0.1 is based on the latest OTA 3.70.651.1.
Thanks for any advice. I did try to search, but since my questions are pretty hardware specific, it was difficult to get relevant hits.
Happy with 0004... but I'm rooted with stock ROM.

I'm not so sure about this. To sprint, an Evo is an Evo. I dont think the techs can "choose" what version to order.
And honestly, I've had a version 2, 3, and 4, and all of them have been exactly the same. Even with the camera change with the 04, I cant tell the difference at all.
I'd go with 003, no question. You have more kernels to choose from.

I didn't even think about that. I guess it's a crap shoot. I wouldn't go with 002 for the sole reason that they are older (I'm weird like that) and if you go with 004 you are guaranteed to get a phone that is not compatible with every kernel out there. If you go with 003 at least there is a chance of getting a normal one and not a later one with the new camera.

+1 don't go for a four. Still some problems with custom kernels like others said.
I've got a hardware v3 with the new camera. I've run the newest Fresh rom, myns, caulks, cm 6.1, Cm7, and evervolv. As far as kernels, I've played with most all of them. I haven't experienced any issues, camera or otherwise after HTC released source for 15. I'm pleased with the performance out of it, as far as smoothness and quickness goes.
*edit* I came from a launchday v2, got this one under TEP, new not refurb.

Yeah, the Epsons suck and I got stuck with one
it's not a matter of what you go with, it's a matter of what they give you. you dont really have a choice unless you buy one used
I have the 0004 HW and I don't know what all the fuss is about. I haven't really had any trouble getting a kernal I want that works with this HW. If it is a Sense rom, run a Netarchy Kernal, they all support 0004 anymore, and if it is an AOSP rom, run Savaged.Zen kernal. They support 0004. I am running CM7+4G with a savaged.zen kernal, (I KNOW I AM SUPPOSED TO RUN THAT KERNAL THEY SAY I HAVE TOO, BUT YA KNOW WHAT? THE SAVAGED.ZEN KERNAL WORKS BETTER, AND 4G WORKS!!!!)
I would have said 2 months ago when I got an evo, that the 0004 HW was crappy as noone supported it, main reason I kept to Fresh. But now, most kernals I like support it, and except when they had CM6.1.2+4G, I haven't had a rom not work with the camera.
I think you just get what you get. I got a replacement last week, its an 003. ##786# tells me it was activated in july and refurbed last month.
Exactly! I'm flabbergasted as well!
So here's my story. My previous EVO HW003 was returned to Best Buy for repairs because my voice speaker had failed. I could make/receive calls but nobody could hear me. I did voice recordings as well and nothing could be heard when playing back the recording. So anyways, I took it in to BB. I went with the Rapid Exchange which guaranteed me a new/re-manufactured phone within 3 days! Well, today I received my phone. Got home from work and began researching how to root the EVO HW004 as I had heard something about the newer bootloader on this particular model, and a little different way of rooting it. So I sat down on my sofa, and for ****s and giggles I attempted to go into recovery to see what would happen. I was expecting the red exclamation mark, instead I was presented with the white HBOOT screen with the following:
Supersonic EVT3 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-2.10.0001
MICROP-041F
TOUCH PANEL-AMTELC03_16ac
RADIO-2.15.00.11.19
OCT 15 2010, 12:07:00
HBOOT
FASTBOOT
RECOVERY
CLEAR STORAGE
SIMLOCK
HBOOT USB
It's running ClockworkMod Recovery v3.0.0.5. I intend to flash AmonRA as that is my personal preference. I'm soooo stoked as I don't have to go through the whole rooting process! Has anyone out there experienced the same from Best Buy? Is there anything I should be concerned about or anything I should know before flashing the latest version of AmonRA. Again, I'm on the following:
HW004
Android version 2.2
Baseband version: 2.15.00.11.19
Kernal Version: 2.6.32.17-gee557fd
[email protected] #15
Build Number: 3.70.651.1 CL294884 release-keys
Software #: 3.70.651.1
Browser Ver: Webkit 3.1
PRI Version: 1.90_003
PRL Version: 01115
I look forward to your feedback on this! Thanks in advance all! I'm not going to flash anything until I get some solid feedback regarding this odd occurrence.
AHH HA!!!
That is awesome!
It happens from time to time, they cant catch every single one of them.
I know right? I mean, the only explanation I have on this, is that someone returned their EVO, forgot to unroot it, or didn't know how to. It went back into the production line and fixed whatever hardware issues it was having, and they didn't bother to reflash the ROM? hahaha Luck usually doesn't follow me, but wow. I'm like ...wow right now! lol

That's exactly what I was thinking on my way to Best Buy after work today. I was telling myself, "****, I hope they didn't update the software on it, it's going to suck if they did." The first thing I checked when the Geek Squad tech handed it to me was to check the HW version and SW version. I paid close attention as the phone tech proceeded to activate my EVO. I would have stopped him on the spot if he had attempted to update the SW. haha So, am I safe to flash the latest Amon RA? If so, can someone be kind enough to post a link to the latest version? I've been on HW003 for the past year. I'm almost green again at this point. hehe
Yes, I will be buying a lotto ticket tonight! haha

Just talked to best buy yesterday about trading my Evo in when I get the 3d tomorrow and asked if I should unroot it. They said I could just leave it rooted, doesn't matter. Maybe some lucky person will get mine still unrooted

I'm almost green again at this point. hehe
Yes, I will be buying a lotto ticket tonight! haha

Amon-Ra doesn't exist for the LTE. You'll have to use TeamWin. Works just fine and is a completely touch interface.
I had cracked my LCD screen and now the screen is blacked out, so I need to replace the OEM and the LCD.
I heard there were multiple EVOs, how do I figure out which one I have?
What was your hardware version? 0003 or 0004? Etc..

Shoot... I don't know how to find that. I'm running Cyanogen MOD 7.2 (ADW Launcher) and it doesn't have the Hardware option in settings anymore.

It should've said it in the bootloader specs if I recall right. Do you have any way of checking?

Look on YouTube for break down instructions(its actually pretty easy just be careful) and you can find out which one you need by the ribbons. Really no other way to find out from what I've been told, as the EVO used different lcds
