I did something inadvertently and lost my 3g and data connections. As far as I can see, the settings are all right "Mobile network" is clicked under Wireless and Networks, the Mobile Icon is green -- but suddenly I lost 3g.
Could someone give me a checklist of things to do?
Desparately...
Joe
Have you maybe deleted your APN's?
menu>settings>wireless and networks>mobile networks>access point names. Also while in thre check network mode is set to gsm/wcdma auto.
the access point I have is Orange Internet -- with juicedefender-orangeinternet underneath. Should there be another one?
Joe
Turn aeroplane mode on and off, if that doesn't work turn off and remove battery. Sounds like you've got an issue that many had and that I use to have.Do a search for the work around, try data connection issues. It was a pain for many data would occasionally just stop working. The new update apparently fixes it.
I would also try things with juicedefender turned off to see if it is causing any problems.
Have you also checked your network mode isn't set to use 2g only?
tried airplane off and on -- no luck. Ditto with battery out and juice defender disabled.
How do I check if Network mode is set to 2G? And how do I get the new upgrade?
(Many thanks for your help, by the way.)
Joe
I've had exactly the same issue.
First thing I did was delete the APN for the faster TMob speeds and reverted to default. This immediately made it work for a few moments before all data connection was lost.
So I then after trying the various things (ie airplane mode - can't remember what else - maybe switching off juice defender?), I did a factory reset. This solved things - until I reinstalled JD, and then the problem rearose. I ahve since binned JD, and I don't have any issue - just a rapidly decreasing battery level...
I just did a hard reset to switch to gmail!
Is there some way to uninstall juice defender?
Also, I just noticed that when I turn my Desire on, I no longer get the choice to choose HTC Sense -- what could have caused that?
Joe
If you performed a hard reset, then this should have deleted Juice Defender and all your pre-installed apps.
To delete it manually, go to Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications and select Juice Defender from the list and choose the Uninstall option.
To check if you network is set to 2G, go to Menu > Settings > Wireless & Networks > Network Mode. If it shows GSM only selected, then it is set as 2G, set it to the GSM/WCDMA instead.
For Sense, go to Settings > Applications > Sense UI then clear defaults and force stop, then hit the home button and choose Home when given the option. You can then set it as default and turn it off or on.
Ta for that. 3g is still on, I've uninstalled Juice Defender and still no joy. (It had gone when I did the reset, but I installed it again. Didn't have any problem with it at first.) Strangely, I can't find Sense UI amongst the applications. Could the hard reset have deleted it?
Anyway, its beginning to look like another hard reset tonight, when I have access to wifi....
Joe
Apologies... it would show up as HTC Sense, not Sense UI
You can also try the HomeSwitcher app, to easily switch between launchers: http://www.androlib.com/android.application.ymst-android-homeswitcher-qEw.aspx
Hello,
i have the exact same trouble.... Lost of all data connexion! Wifi is working properly, but in 3G sometime i lose connexion and i m unable to connect back!
Only way to do it is to turn off the phone and turn it back in, and most of the time it works.
The thing i get since 2 days (since the update in fact) is that before i go to bed i surf a bit, its working, then i plug the phone and go to sleep... then on the morning, no more data connexion!
This is REALLY annoying, and i can't figure out why it is behaving like that.... i have APNdroid installed, but when i lost the connexion even if i try to enable/disable it, nothing to do....
Please help!!
Orange?
Any of you guys on Orange by any chance?
My work mate and I both have a desire and lose 3G when at work. We can call our handsets and they both go straight to vm. They also fail sms.
We can only reliably use the handsets on GSM.
When I go home I switch back to GSM/WCDMA auto and all is OK, except my buddy doesn't live far from work so is on the same cell.
We think it's an issue with an Orange 3G mast that serves our area.
Same thing happens with my N97 and I thought it was handset related.
Data Connection Problem
Hey People,
I have a similar problem with my Galaxy S2 too, on Resurrection remix 4.0.3. I have tried everything well almost everything I know about. I have also installed automatic net services from Orange romania. It didn't help too. I believe there are people who can help fix this problem and releases my pain.
Any helpwould be appreciated.
I had the same problem once. It was the EPST settings.
1. Who is your carrier?
2. What rom do you have? In order to edit the EPST settings you need to
a. Know what your doing
b. Have the ORIGINAL sense rom installed.
You will probably need to call your carrier and tell them your data is not working and you believe it to be the EPST settings. To get into these settings, (in the ORIGINAL sense rom) dail ##778#, click edit mode, then type in password (usually 000000), but it depends on ur carrier.
From there it depends on what your carrier needs the settings to be.
I messed with the APNs settings on my phone for weeks and nothing worked. Then i stumbled upon EPST settings and that fixed it. I had to contact someone in upper data communications in Bluegrass Cellular to get the correct settings. So good luck!

Not all towers support 3G or even internet. That could explain that but idk about the calling and sms.
A good friend of mine waited to receive the OTA update of Froyo for his Incredible and when he got it he installed it. The bad part that I need help with is that when his phone rebooted it wouldn't allow the 3G data network to work. That section in settings is greyed out saying "Turning on..." and will not connect. The phone portion runs just fine. I have since returned the phone back to 2.1 and the same problem persists. If someone could help us out that would be awesome!!!
This probably wasn't posted in the right section...
I had an issue with 3G not connecting after downloading the froyo OTA off the internet and applying it as an update.zip.
I'm not sure if this is the same thing, but mine seemed to be that it wouldn't switch from the wifi network to the 3G network after getting out of range of the wifi (its set to auto connect to my home wifi, so it went straight to that after I rebooted it after the update). Then it wouldn't connect with the wifi off. I think I turned off both wifi and 3G and rebooted it with them off, and then turned back on 3G, and it worked. Everything is working normally now.
I'm not really sure why this would happen, I was wondering if it possibly had something to do with the phone registering itself after the update, and then not registering the 3G because it was on wifi and sort of "forgot?" That's just idle speculation though...
Also you might want to clear out your cache.
This might not be related to your problem, but I hope it helps!

Thanks for your effort, it did not work unfortunately.
Did he happen to have anything that controls 3G installed? Tasker? Juicedefender?
If he powered off while the data we disabled, and updated, then 3G won't work. Period.
I've heard of ways of restoring the APN or something, search the forums on that.

He did not have any type of app like that. He is a very novice user. I tried searching for restoring APN with no luck, anyone else?
When I first flashed Virtuous2.0 and did the initial setup, I didn't get 3G either. I'm pretty sure a good old fashioned *228 did the trick. I did have a backup through APN Backup & Restore, but didn't need to use it.
Have you tried turning on the airport mode, rebooting, turning off airport mode. Or perhaps do a *228?

Tried this too and no luck.
Go to Verizon and tell them to fix it fix fix it fix it! If he's running stock its nothing he did. Sounds super bunk that they finally got froyo only to not be able to use 3g.
The loss of 3g data is a bug with the froyo builds. All the froyo roms and the official ota have this issue.
sent from my Droid Incredible using XDA app.
this just happened to my friend too. I updated his phone last week with the OTA and since then he hasn't had 3g, but wifi would work.
did a rom manager backup before hand though, so i told him to revert back, and everything is working again. not sure why flashing back didn't work for you
So he hasn't had 3g at all? He can make calls and a *228 option # 1 doesn't update his settings and reboot? Maybe something when wrong on the install, whats hboot say?
Assuming he's completely stock I'd suggest going to the Verizon store and having them try.
I'm pretty new to Android, but out of curiosity I flashed CyanogenMod 6.1.3 a few days ago and all went well, but I've just noticed that I'm unable to get a 3G connection. All widgets/settings show that 3G & mobile data is turned on, but there's no indicator in the notification bar and no browsers can connect to the internet. I can still get a WiFi connection. Any ideas why this is happening, and how I can fix it?
Thanks for reading.
Check your apn settings, you may have to enter them manually
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
Tried that, used settings straight from the T-Mobile website.
It is definitely something to do with your APN setup, something isn't right.
Hey there. I don't own this phone but my friend in another country does. They don't have great tech support so I thought I'd ask here. For some reason her mobile data button is greyed out. It's on, but not allowing her to turn it off. Anyone know what could be the problem? I've attached two screens that might be useful but they're in Russian. Any help would be great, thanks.

Isn't that WiFI?
Anyway it is LOCKED, this means that is can not be turned off. Does he installed any program that locks WiFi? Also tell him to check WiFi/mobile data settings.

No, wifi is on but mobile data is still used. It seems like it has higher preference over wifi. Everything is straight out of the box with no user installed apps.

Hmmmm
Turn off phone > Take out SIM card > Turn on phone > Turn off WiFi > reset developer settings > Take in SIM card > restart phone.
Also you said that mobile data has got bigger preference than WiFi. In that case make sure that option 'switch to mobile data' is turned off (see ss).
If this won't work, I think that she may need to reset factory settings.
Also when this problem occurred?

Ok will try that, but I've been looking around and there's an update for it I think so we'll do that first and see if anything happens.
And this was pretty much straight out of the box. Bought the phone, came home, started setup, turned on wifi and then all that she sees later is that her mobile data is gone.
Well, did he/she tried to connect to other WiFi network, what happenes then? I know it's not up to WiFi but I'm curious what will happen.
Thanks for the help guys, but the last software update seemed to fix the bug. Everything works fine now.
I'm having this issue where once I boot into Android and I disabled mobile data and use WiFi, everything will work as intended. If at some point I enable mobile data and wait a few minutes I can disable WiFi and mobile data yet a data connection is still available. Icons show up as being disabled but this is false. A reboot will clear the issue but returns as mentioned. I removed as many apps as I could think of that may have something to do and checked developer settings to fix this behavior to no avail. Anyone running into this?

I'm not sure but it could be that in developer options there is a setting to keep mobile data always enabled. Try to turn it off and see if there is any change.
This was fixed by changing my T-Mobile APN and now for some reason it works as should. Was using "wholesale" as the MNVO APN previously.
