I have an LG Vortex, and though there is a place for the phone on XDA (technically), its not welcome there.
The Vortex is a variant of the LG Optimus One. While there are dozens of variants, there are only 3 versions "welcome" in the applicable forum, the Optimus One, the Optimus P500, and the Optimus.
HOWEVER! even this is incorrect. P500 is the product number for the "original" optimus one - that means only the Optimus One and the Optimus V are allowed in the forum. When people with other Optimus One variants post topics or ask questions for their devices, they are ignored, turned away, or even occasionally treated with undue anger. If you do not have a P500 or an Optimus V, you are not welcome. However, when people attempt to post elsewhere about these devices, in the general/android forums, they are more often than not ignored, asked to return to their forum, sometimes even a moderator moves the topic there, where it will suffer the above fate. Because of this, there are virtually no user of the many Optimus One variants on XDA anymore, and those who come are quickly turned away. Root has barley been achieved for most of these devices, some people (such as myself) actually had to figure out how to root them ourselves, which luckily was fairly easy. There are no ROMs or ports for these devices anywhere on the internet. Perhaps they are considered not "good enough" for devs to bother with, I don't know. The "main" version of the device have plenty of support, including a functioning ICS port for the original Optiumus One. These variants are cheap, so they are VERY common. The forums I will request further on will not be empty, I can promise that.
All versions of this phone are as follows:
LG Optimus One - P500 (Europe/Asia) (GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 - HSDPA 900 / 2100)
LG Optimus One - P503 (Turkey) (GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 - HSDPA 850 / 900 / 2100)
LG Optimus One - P504 (Walmart Family Mobile) (unknown radio, help out?)
LG Optimus C - LW690 (Cricket) (unknown radio, help out?)
LG Optimus M - MS690 (MetroPCS) (CDMA 800 / 1900, UMTS 1700 / 2100 - CDMA 2000 1xRTT, CDMA 2000 1xEV-DO Rel. 0)
LG Optimus T - P509 (T-Mobile) (GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900, UMTS 1700 / 2100 - CSD, GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSDPA, HSUPA)
LG Phoenix - P505 (AT&T, Rogers Wireless) (GSM 850 / 900 /1800 / 1900 - UMTS 850/ 1900/ 2100)
LG Thrive - P506 (GoPhone) (GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz Quad-Band/Dual-Mode - GPRS/UMTS/HSDPA)
LG Optimus U - US670 (US Cellular) (CDMA 800 / 1900 - cdmaOne, CDMA2000 1xRTT, CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rel. 0, CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rev A)
LG Vortex - VS660 (Verizon) (identical radios/bands to US670, different chassis)
LG Optimus S - LS670 (Sprint) (CDMA 800 /1900 - cdmaOne, CDMA2000 1xRTT, CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rel. 0, CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rev A)
LG Optimus V - VM670 (Virgin Mobile) (completely identical to LS670)
So as you can see, all these phones are similar. VERY similar. Things like ROMs require only some modification to go from one version to another. In fact, other than minor chassis differences, and the radios included (and this is only an issue most of the time), and some versions including an FM radio, those phones are identical. However, there is very little development for these devices at all, except the ones featured in the sub-forum, which i was very disappointed to see. Making my Vortex work better was one of the primary reasons I came to XDA to begin with. As i have found out, these devices are very close to stock android. As far as i can tell, the bootloaders are all unlocked. Development should be a breeze, but it is actively (though accidentally) being prevented. Here is how I believe that the forum for the Optimus One should be reconstructed
PROPOSED FORUM REORGANIZATION:
Forum title:
LG Optimus One
subforums:
-LG Optimus One General
-LG Optimus One Accessories
-LG Optimus One (P500) Android Development
-LG Optimus One (P503) Android Development
-LG Optimus One (P504) Android Development
-LG Optimus C Android Development
-LG Optimus M Android Development
-LG Optimus T Android Development
-LG Phoenix Android Development
-LG Thrive Android Development
-LG Optimus U/LG Vortex Android Development
-LG Optimus S/LG Optimus V Android Development
-LG Optimus One Themes and Apps
note: Optimus One, being the original, is the generally accepted base name for this family of devices. they are similar enough to share a general, accessories, and themes and apps section, but the devices are just different enough that ROMs and hardware specific software is not compatible without major modification. There will also be a republic Wireless variant released in the near future, which should require its own forum. If some models are more compatible than I think they are, those models can be combined into the same forum, eg Optimus S & V
This would NOT be very much work or stress on the mods or the server. I am simply asking for corrections of a product name on the subforum, and addition of a few new sub-subforums, so that everything has a place. This would enable the limited to nonexistent development for these devices to grow into something useful and meaningful for these devices, which is, after all, what everybody here wants from XDA, isn't it?
+1
and also i really think the forum should just be called lg optimus family/line/etc because the title is kind of misleading. grouping the optimus one and v makes some people think that stuff on the o1 works on the ov and vice versa
afaik the only things compatible with each other are the p500, p503, and p509
my thought in general:
different title for the forum "lg optimus one, p500, v"
different subforums of each of the said devices grouped by compatibility (i.e. one subforum should be p500, p503, p509)
the usual subforums under those subforums (general, accessories, development, themes and apps)
while they are similar remember the Sprint runs CDMA

exactly. (so does the votex btw) They're all slightly different, but honestly most of them are closer than the moto droid and the milestone.
I agree. I own a P505 and was baffled by the lack of at least a sub-forum for the other optimus variants.
Here's hoping for expanded Optimus forums. My brother just got a T and I'd love to get my hooks into that. I do understand Z4root works for the T, though i have no experience with it. I've recentloy learned all about Odin for my Charge in the past month or so and need better advice on getting his phone up and running as well as possible.

theres technically a forum for the optimus t. the optimus t and the optimus one use the same hardware, so anything meant for the optimus one is also meant for the optimus t. this means that you can refer to the optimus one forum for your brothers optimus t

Might be because for some of those, LG has not even bothered with releasing even the kernel source code, which is a clear GPL violation. You cannot expect much development for such stuff. For these cases, the best development would be done by contacting [email protected] first

Which ones? The kernel source is available for all of the CDMA phones at least.
In any case the hardware is not all identical, nor is the software. Even within the same model there are some different revisions here and there. That said, I think the P500/One name works well enough as the GSM phones all carry a P50x designation, no? Perhaps the V subforum could be renamed to something along the lines of 660/670/690.
All told tho, the kernel source enables some niceties but it's not essential for a custom ROM (look at the Moto Triumph for instance), and I hardly doubt that asking questions about the other CDMA phones in the V subforums would raise many eyebrows.
The LG Optimus T can use P500 ROMs except they don't get the WIFI calling stuff.
Was looking around for news on this. Sprint has upgraded the ROM for the S version, but mine has not downloaded yet.
There is a forum over here, with some development work... but did not want to be first or second to root my phone.

The name "Optimus 2x" has become ambiguous because it refers to two different models now:
In Europe and Asia: Optimus 2x = LG P990, with the LG UI customizations.
In Canada: Optimus 2x = LG P999, same device as T-mobile G2x, with the stock like UI. But they didn't call the G2x because T-mobile items that trademark.
There is already a thread in which a few Canadian users almost bricked their P999 by following P990 instructions.
Could we please do something to resolve this ambiguity? At the very least put the model numbers into the forum titles.
Rename LG Optimus 2x -> LG P990: Optimus 2x
Rename T-mobile G2x -> LG P999: T-mobile G2x & CDN Optimus 2x
That way everybody ends up in the right forum and nobody's phone gets bricked. Any thoughts?

I think you've answered one of my questions! I live in Canada and have the LG Optimux 2x (P999). Is it the same as the G2X?
I'm not sure which forum to search in (the LG Optimus 2x or the T-Mobile G2X)?
By seeing this:
"Rename T-mobile G2x -> LG P999: T-mobile G2x & CDN Optimus 2x"...
...I assume I have to look in the T-Mobile G2X forum if I want info about my phone and not the LG Optimux 2x forum, even though my phone is an LG?
Correct. The P999 means you look in the G2X forum.
Just to confuse things further, now Fido Canada has released the Optimus 2X as well but it's not the same device at all as the one on Wind. I believe it's a variant of the P990 with 850/1900/2100 3G. I don't yet know what the model number is. There's a chance that the baseband from both previously released variants could brick out.

Great, thank you so much for your reply!
I'm new to this. This is my first smartphone and I was confused between LG Optimux 2x, T-Mobile G2x, P990 and P999.
I know I have a P999 but it's a LG, not a T-Mobile, that's why I got confused.
I will now do my searches under the T-Mobile G2x forum.
I really hope the moderators will listen to your suggestion and change the forum names. It would help newbies like me!

Then you will have to find someone who took a backup of their stock Fido O2X. Anyway I see you started a thread in the O2X forum so I guess it should be addressed there not here.
Yes this definitely needs changing, there are a lot of P999 O2X's popping up in the P990 section.
Looks like someone's flashed their P999 O2X with some P990 stuff and it's not done it any good (no service).

Just wanted to let everyone know that Bell is stating their LG Optimus LTE is actually the LG P930 Nitro HD (as per the box and the internal OS). Seems to be a bit of confusion on the 'Net. Anyone able to figure this out? Comparison??? Bell vs. AT&T
Doesn't seem to be any sort of a huge difference? Seems basically the same to me other than a few things.
Confusion?
The Optimus LTE is heavier, lacks the extra 2 GB ram, adds the 1700MHz spectrum so it is compatible with WIND, comes with only an 8GB TF SDHC card, no fm radio. some are big differences i would think?
if you go LG.com, it listed Optimus LTE p930 same as Nitro p930.
specs?
If you look, the P930 has different specs than the LTE specs listed all over the 'Net. hence why i started this [Q] to clear up the 2 models conflicting with what Bell is sending out to customers vs. AT&T's Nitro HD P930.
My original [Q] is still unanswered: Bell is handing out the Optimus LTE 4G with boxes and firmware showing it is a P930, yet the specs for the P930 are different from what they are handing out. Which is the right P930??? Bell's or AT&T's?
There ARE differences. see my previous post for them.

Sorry little off topic what the hell happened to your phones lol. some are kia and others exploded.
BOOM?!
Little off topic is true. maybe he's had bad luck or bad units or the zerglings got him?
Going off topic/the record, I have had the worse luck when it comes to phone this year.
-Atrix sorta burst into a tiny flame while charging
- 1st BB drowned, 2nd had faulty keys and the 3rd one permanently froze
- Whatever bugs/defects that were reported with the Sensation, happened to me
- The Torch and Bold basically died and wouldnt charge or turn on.
Thankfully, I have the PEP plan from Best Buy <3. Technically saved me over $3000 haha

Wow, that's interesting. I knew they had differences in software but I didn't think they had some differences in hardware too, considering that they call the Optimus LTE a Nitro HD. Does my Nitro HD have a radio/FM antenna? How does one go about using it?

Optimus LTE and LG Nitro is the same phone! both phone listed as P930 on lg.com !
optimus lacks the extra 2gb ram? on my nitro, it listed Internal storage available space 1.53GB. i not even sure nitro has 4gb to begin with.
so nitro has fm radio? the nitro never comes with headset (att is getting cheap! haha) and there is no FM app preinstalled on Nitro!
Bell vs AT&T
Check out GSMArena. They have both phones listed and they are different. One is manufactured for Bell Canada and one is manufactured for AT&T. "They are different". The AT&T model has a radio with RDS the Bell one has no radio.. The AT&T model has only the one "LTE 700" frequency. the Bell has 700 and 1700. AT&T has 4 gig but Bell only 2 gig. Bell Canada LTE is rated at 75 Mbps, AT&T 21 max. There may be other differences. Check the site for yourself and see.
I am still debating which new phone to purchase and leaning to the LG. My current phone does not have the worlds greatest battery life so not getting a full day out of the LT is not a major concern. And talking for three hours,I don't think so.

you know how to check out gsmarena but not att.com, lg.com or get the Nitro user manual from lg.com?? radio is never mentioned on nitro!
just cus it' on gsmarena, it must be accurate?
att version maxed out at 21mb? is there such a thing as LTE maxed out 21mb? haha
21mb is hspa+
I just did a speedtests on nitro and get 27mb!
not exactly reliable sources...
If your phone doesn't say "AT&T" above the screen, then you're getting the Optimus LTE. Only AT&T has the Nitro HD (name wise), and unless they're gonna bother switching out the glass/digitizer, you didn't get the nitro hd.
New Thread for Optimus LTE??
So based on each carriers website, and the manufacturer admitting they are different models, would it be out of line to start a separate thread for the LTE P930 vs. the Nitro P930 and set the naming convention to differentiate between the two models and XDA support?
Can a Mod give their input on this please??? I am just trying to clarify this before this thread gets bloated with unnecessary posts that will eventually lead to confusion and eventually blurs the line between the two models and set up some sort of clarity for future posts and support...

dude, it doesn't even matter. The Nexus S had i9023, i9020t, and i9020A and they coexist fine. The difference in radio(freq) just means you can't put out roms that changes the baseband.
don't you mean the fact the Optimus LTE has only 2GB of internal memory vs. 4GB of internal memory on the Nitro is also a large difference as well as the lack of the dual LTE frequencies vs the Nitro? or do we need to go further into the other hardware differences (ie: screens etc?)
Hey guys just have a question is the lg nitro hd a optimus lte or optimus 4g lte and which is better optimus lte or 4g lte and why is it better?Which has a better screen? Is the optimus true hd lte better than the two? thx for answers.
what carrier, and have you been into a store to see them?
i honestly didn't know there was a difference between the optimus lte and 4g lte (i use it interchangeably)
i thought there was only the p930 (LG Optimus [4G] LTE, Nitro HD), the P935 and the SU6200/640
Edit: as said below me (thanks aaki_rocker for the info) it doesn't matter what phone you get, as long as you get it in the carriers store it should work and you will love it
p930, p935, p936, su640, lu6200 are all the same phones with different bandwidths !
gsm versions are :
p930 - at&t version
p935 - telus version
p936 - european version !
lu6200 and su640 are cdma versions !
only the korean model has nfc !
hardware wise they are all the same phones with different radios and basebands !

The previous posters have already said this, but I just wanted to clarify. These are all the exact same phone. LG is just inconsistent in how they name it in different regions. Same screen, same design, same specs.
I want to upgrade from my S2 to a new phone. I love the Nexus4, BUT, has no SD slot, and you can not even order one.
So, I was thinking on the Optimus G. Now, my question for all of you with the handset is, would you still buy it today?
One important thing for me is "hackability", meaning, I want to run clear/custom roms on it, as I do not like bloatware.
In that regard, the S2 is wonderful, and we already have JB 4.2.1 running very smoothly.
Why I'm interested on the Optimus G? As far as I understand is VERY similar to the Nexus 4, and so I assume it would be easy to have roms ported from it.
So, what are your thoughts?
As for today, thats the best phone on market, but its mid of January already, so a new/better models will come out really soon.
Thanks Tim4, for your response.
Lets forget that a new one would probably come out soon, would you still buy it considering all the I said, specially the hackability request?
Tough to say as there is currently development towards more solid bootloader and rooting options but who knows how it will all pan out. Same goes with roms, there is not a lot yet so who knows.
I am rooted and have frozen/uninstalled the apps that I don't want on the device so for me this is good enough. The phone itself is fantastic and I'm very pleased with it, even without JB. But yes, news phones like s4 and xperia z will give the g a run for it if not beat it outright, but regardless of that this phone is a beast.

Well, to put you in context, I went and bought a Razr MAXX. In brief, very poor roms support, so I sold it after 2 days.
There are too many versions for Optimus G, US has E970, Canadian has 971,973, Korean has their version, also the international version E975 might gonna come out soon. ROM development might takes longer I think. At least we gotta wait until LG release the 4.1.2 JB in order to have more JB ROMs
About the phone. I had the S II too, I loved it. I think Optimus G has even better design, and of course more powerful.
Running great on CM10.1, I believe it will be even better when LG comes out the JB source.
So, if you likes the phone, how it looks, then go for it.

I want the AT&T version E970, cause it is compatible with my country 3G bands, unless all have the same bands, or are quad band or something, or unless there is a problem with the E970 one.
You coming from the S2, do you think his battery last longer? How much longer? I'm asking cause I realized that the battery is non removable, and I'm always about 2 to 4 hours short on the S2.
Thanks!
The E973 already has a near perfect CyanogenMod 10.1 port, AOKP 4.2.1 build and of course an unlocked boot loader and can be rooted. So I'm pretty happy with this, especially since the big two are already on board. Team Nocturnal is also working on this phone.

Compare to S II, the battery on Optimus G (E971) is a lot longer. For S II, I used to bring 2 extra batteries with me just in case, but now with OG I don't need to bring my extreme battery.
I would say around 30-40% more.
On both stock and CM10.1

By the way, this table is correct?
LG Optimus G E970
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100
4G Network LTE 700 MHz Class 17 / 1700 / 2100
LG Optimus G E971 (Rogers)
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100
4G Network LTE 700 / 2600
LG Optimus G E973 / LG F180
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 900 / 2100
4G Network LTE ???

Compare to S II, the battery on Optimus G (E971) is a lot longer. For S II, I used to bring 2 extra batteries with me just in case, but now with OG I don't need to bring my extreme battery. I would say around 30-40% more.On both stock and CM10.1

That is VERY GOOD NEWS!

Yeah, i would.
The international version of optimus g still didnt appear on market, i believe that the main reason of slow developing.
USA/Korea/Canada/Japan and may be AUS the only countries optimus g available in. Btw some guy asked LG about the international version, and he was told it definitely will out in Q1

What would be the advantage of the international version?
The advantage is more users will use optimus g = more developers will appear here = more custom roms will be available
Make the move bro! I went from the S2 to the AT&T Optimus G, originally i was going to upgrade to the overrated S3 or wait on the S4(but found out rumors saying screen size is 4.99inch which is too big and rocking Exynos Octa Core which i doubt we'd need and delay of how long USA would get a version) But a nice rep from AT&T store recommended the OG, and i have to say is i am blown away with the looks and performance of the device. The only deal breaker is the lack of accessories like an OEM car dock and non-removable but sooner or later everyone will transistion to non removable battery. Yes the LGOG is lacking ROM Dev, but i know that this is a fairly new device, give it a couple weeks to a few months and development will go crazy!
I never looked back, yes the S2 was a slamming device even up to now, but i needed to update and the OG is good enough rocking the first Quad Core CPU with LTE bands
This phone is simply amazing. Screen is beautiful, absolutely no lags on heavy multitasking, good battery, lte.. Even on mostly stock rom, simply the best phone to get into my hands. The screen, man.. The screen And the fluidity.. - - It is a joy to use, still looks like a (sexy, classy, sleek) phone compared to the galaxy note 2's size, exemple.
Did I mention the amazing screen, and the fluidity of animations + browsing?

I like the phone very much, but the lack of root/roms makes me very nervous
I just bought 2 today. They are buy one get one free at sprint.
I'm guessing the pro is coming very soon.
Which one should I buy to replace my g2 ?
I really don't know.
The Droid 4 is older, but how is the keyboard and processor compared to the relay 4G ?
I will use the 900 and 2100 3G band in belgium, gsm network (I'll need to apply a patch each time I flash a rom).
Personally i have the Huawei U8730 (T-Mobile MyTouch Q) but there's other phone like Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G SGH-T699, HTC myTouch 4G Slide, Motorola Droid 4

I'm not a G2 owner but think I have my opinion.
Definitely the Relay, if you don't mind the backlit keyboard of D4. Relay has a far superior CPU (msm8960 board) and this chipset is widely used in popular devices, so we can expect continued development. For now both Relay and D4 have official CM10.2, but Relay has actively updated 3.4 kernel.
Speaking of msm8960, Moto's Photon Q (GSM variant) has the same CPU and is yet another upgrade from the Relay - ever considered it? Availability or price issue?

Wrong, it does (though maybe not out-of-the-box). Here in China, resellers modify D4, Photon Q and many Verizon/Sprint devices to be usable with both CDMA and GSM/WCDMA (supports AT&T/T-Mo bands) - because they are hardware-wise capable of doing so, just Verizon/Sprint limited it for own profit.

It might work there, but here in the US, it doesn't work. So if one is in the US looking for a G2 replacement, this is not the phone to use.

But I live outside the US: Belgium, Europe.
@AndyYan: Thxs for your vision on the relay 4G, I'll buy one !
I had a desire z myself and I got a relay when it broke. It's really worth it! I just do not like the bloatware samsung put on it, hence I now have cm10.2 runninh quite smoothly. I imported mine via negri electronics.
